I really AM going to Low Carb this time...

And DH has promised to join me. But not until after our big night away without the kids next week. So lots of time to procrastinate plan ahead I've ordered India's book. And have an old copy of Atkins' upstairs.

I will need a sugar substitute I think. And, ahem, fibre. Are linseeds low carb? Can you eat them in induction? And I will need to plan my snackage.

And how to get through the first week or two weeks? What helped you not cave in at the first cravings or headaches? And did I read somewhere you can test your piss? Or is that not strictly necessary?

lol yeah i do actually!

gibbberish · 26/03/2010 11:45

Made a few silly mistakes yesterday and they all added up to one big one! Didnt read the label on my pasta sauce jar until AFTER I had had dinner. Oops, BIG mistake.

And I had a whole avocado yesterday and another the day before that. Didnt realise they were pretty high in carbs...

Oh well. Another pound down anyway so pretty pleased! Got the dentist this afternoon - root canal treatment (ouch) so not going to be doing much eating atall methinks.

Enchilada, sad you are having to give up. But I guess everyone is different and you need to do what works for you.

Enchilada81 · 26/03/2010 13:23

Thanks for the well wishes To be honest, I've "tried" to come off the atkins thing and I'm actually finding it quite difficult!

It has really suprised me. I thought I'd be stuffing carbs in right, left and centre but I'm not.

Yesterday morning (my first official non-atkins day) I finished off some flax bread and peanut butter for my breakfast.

For lunch I tried to rebel and eat a ham sandwich (on wholemeal bread) and I hate half of it before I started feeling full and bloated so I had to give that one up!

For dinner I ate rare steak with sprouts ... so that was low carb too ... then for supper I bought myself an easter egg ... ate a bit, realised I didn't really want it and put it back in the fridge.

Everything I've eaten today has been low carb too. I'm eating low carb without even trying.

So, new stratagey. I will eat low carb when I can ... but I'll also "cheat" when the need arises ... that way I'm not restricted to low carb but I'm still following it ... if that makes any sense?

FrazzledBlob · 26/03/2010 16:20

sal - whereabouts in tesco are the flaxseed? DH got me some in Holland & Barrett and paid a fair whack for them.

Hope you are ok after the dentist gibberish (i am scared stiff of the dentist!)

Keep posting Enchilada, you reminded me I had some peanut butter I had'nt touched so had peanut butter on flax toast for lunch!

For any peanut butter lovers, I found the Waitrose Oganic smooth peanut butter 9.9g per 100g or 1.2g of carbs per 12g - no added sugar has lower carbs than any health food shop stuff i have seen so far

Fingers crossed I am off to an oriental supermarket in the morning. Going to hunt for the impossible to get shirataki noodles as DH has been talking take aways and I dont want to be tempted by fried rice!

gibbberish · 26/03/2010 16:30

Wow Enchilada - perhaps low carb is your thing after all! Maybe you should do what Custy does - low carb through the week and less so at the weekends. Sounds like a happy medium.

Thanks frazzled Went (rather reluctantly) to the dentist. She asked me if I had any pain in the tooth in question, which has had a temp filling since early December. I said no pain atall, which is the truth. So she said she would rather leave it for 3 mths and if there is still no pain will just cap it! Almost hugged her with joy

Not sure what to have for dinner tonight...

Sorry, slightly late reply to custy....

I ate Tescos brocolli and stilton soup which was the lowest carb there at about 8 net carbs. I figured since i am staying at 20 net carbs a day and breakfast was nothing it would be ok?

Or is 20 a day too high? I was going to have some runner beans for dinner with my chicken but just a handful - about 100gms.

Any other suggestions of saladless lunches if soup won't work? And I consider coleslaw a type of salad - any raw veg = bad. Thanks for the suggestion though

gibbberish · 27/03/2010 09:35

Why oh why did I weigh?

Still the same as I was at the beginning of the week. Feeling very fed up.

And measured myself (for the 1st time) and was HORRIFIED at how big I've become.

Please tell me this will work. This is my 6th day...

FrazzledBlob · 27/03/2010 13:57

oh gibberish dont worry I have had a few weeks of what seems like no loss but i am now a stone lighter. Just keep drinking plenty of water as the theory is that although you are fat burning your body panics and tries to hold onto water. will post the link later.

I found the no carb noodles today! and some cheap tofu so its curry for me tonight.

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend

gibbberish · 27/03/2010 14:07

Thanks frazzled I did read something on the pigtotwig forum about stalling and feel a bit better now. Think I just panicked this morning and imagined myself never, ever being able to lose this weight however hard I try.

I've calmed down now though and talked some sense into myself (took a LOT of talking..). I know I haven't cheated so it is bound to come off sooner or later.

dh practically tried to force feed me chocolate earlier today Wish he would support me instead of trying to sabotage my diet at every opportunity. Ho hum.

Off out with the girls to make the most of the sunshine and try to get rid of my current irritability.

Enchilada81 · 27/03/2010 14:34

Gibberish, I understand totally how you felt when the scales didn't shift.

Last week, I finally, for the first time in over a year ... got down to 11st 0lbs. I felt so happy and motivated ... was really good all that day, stuck to atkins by the book and the next day I got on the scales and it said ...

11st 4lbs I was absolutely gutted. Felt really down and pissed off with everything. It felt like 1 step forward and 5 backwards.

However, you don't just put on 4lbs of fat overnight and when I'd calmed down, I realised that. The problem was that I was constipated and ... excuse the vulgarity ... but I had four days worth of crap inside me

I took some laxatives ... and the next day I was back down to 11st 2lbs and this morning I was back down to 11st 0lbs again

And yesterday I was really naughty too. I had a chocolate bar during the day ... 4 glasses of wine on the night time AND half a chocolate orange I keep wondering what my weight would have been this morning if I hadn't eaten all that crap yesterday ... could I have seen those 10stones again?!? I don't suppose I'll ever know! lol

But try not to take much notice of the scales. Listen to your clothes instead. They tell a true'er story

Enchilada81 · 27/03/2010 14:36

Oh btw, if anyone is interested, Morrisons are selling bags of flax seed for 99p at the moment. A bit cheaper than Holland & Barrets £4.99!

gibbberish · 27/03/2010 16:02

Thanks Enchilada. And yay for laxatives! How exciting to be nearly into your next stone bracket! Got 12lbs to go to get to mine...

Really appreciate you letting me know that. Makes me feel a bit more normal. Really musnt keep jumping off and on the scales.

Are flax seeds any better than psyllium husk tablets? Just wondering because I havent bought any yet and will probably need to (no probs in THAT dept yet thank goodness).

Enchilada81 · 27/03/2010 16:14

I'm not sure to be honest, I've never tried the psylium husks.

I only found flax because I was looking all over to find a low carb, high fibre cereal for a morning.

If you've not seen it, I recommend the one I found:

1/4 cup of flax seed
2tsp peanut butter
1 tsp low carb sweetner
half a cup of water (or just under, to make it thicker).

It's quite nice, a porridge texture and it really helps with the toilet department

But I have always had problems in that area, IBS ... even before I started atkins so you may not need anything as severe as flax cereal.

(and for what it's worth, I'm on the scales every morning, it's become somewhat of obsession! but I do try not to take it seriously.

I just want to see those 10 stones back again. I'm so close ... and the scales seem to know that and keep me hanging on! lol

Enchilada81 · 27/03/2010 16:15

BTW, just realised ... for that cereal, make the water BOILING hot water! and even then, microwave for a few seconds because it goes cold really quick.

gibbberish · 27/03/2010 16:16

You'll get there any day now. Very exciting!

dh taking me out for a meal... pub type grub so I'll need to scour the menu for something to eat. Shouldnt be too much of a problem though.

gibbberish · 27/03/2010 16:16

If I cant the psyllium tabs will give that a go.Sounds very nice actually. Any idea how many carbs in a bowl?

That's a good incentive sal.

Feeling more positive today (even tho not lost any more still).

Had a really lovely meal out last night with dh and was delighted that there were a lot of low carb choices. Stuck to water.

Don't know what am having for dinner yet. Might make chicken in a creamy cheese sauce with veg.

Sal that is fantastic! I am going to dig an outfit out for my hols and see if that keeps me motivated.

Well done on the night out Gibberish. I still don't know how to play eating out as a veggie, salad i guess?

Not having a great weekend here. Did'nt have my curry, have come down with the tummy bug DD had last week. Feel terrible but alot slimmer

I am feeling frustrated as I can't eat anything without feeling awful and I can't exercise. Had 2 plain crispbreads yesterday as i was desperate to keep something down, checked the pack and they were nearly 4g carb each

gibbberish · 28/03/2010 15:58

Thanks. My halo is still gleaming That's brilliant sal! The two stone mark is virtually yours to take!

Frazzled it must be pretty difficult low carbing on a veggie diet. Do you eat dairy?

Doing an online shop. Have ordered multivitamins online too.

Tried to take the girls out for a bike ride so that I could have a good walk. But it poured with rain so we all had to come home again. Pants. Could do with going on the wii but no way am doing that with dh sitting watching me
