And DH has promised to join me. But not until after our big night away without the kids next week. So lots of time to procrastinate plan ahead I've ordered India's book. And have an old copy of Atkins' upstairs.

I will need a sugar substitute I think. And, ahem, fibre. Are linseeds low carb? Can you eat them in induction? And I will need to plan my snackage.

And how to get through the first week or two weeks? What helped you not cave in at the first cravings or headaches? And did I read somewhere you can test your piss? Or is that not strictly necessary?

Hello everyone. For lunch if you don't like salad you could have cold chicken and coleslaw.

Mitchell81 · 24/03/2010 16:28

I find my energy stays the same, no real increase or decrease. But I do feel like I want to do some form of exercise

woahthere · 24/03/2010 18:31

When you go low carb can you literally eat as much as you like so long as its not got carbs in it? Im just asking because I just had roast chicken for my tea and really pigged out on it(skin and all)....will i still lose weight?

Tortington · 24/03/2010 23:24

yes

Tortington · 24/03/2010 23:28

although that can't be the only thing you're eating?

i had the most lovely tea

cabbage with butter and pepper stir fry cubed chicken with spices, slice of bell pepper,3 slices of leek& courgette, slice of onion. topped off with some yummy sund dried tomatos and mozzerella balls. delish.

Tortington · 24/03/2010 23:29

nikki what is the carb count for your soup? i haven't found a low carb soup as yet, not low enough anyway.

also the lots of veg you;re eating - you can't eat unlimited veg.

Tortington · 24/03/2010 23:33

jacaqueen, maybe you need to lower your carbs now you are at a plateau?
remember that eating regularly is the key. took me ages to figure that out. completely get where you're coming from re the loss of control, i feel like that when i binge too.

sorry for multiple posts, not been on for a while

Hello all , I am on day 4 today and I have weighed myself this morning and 5 pounds off It has given me the boost I need to keep going .

I am a bit worried about Saturday night , I am going to have a friends house for book club and she is a brilliant cook so dinner will be a bit of a struggle . How do you all cope with things like that ? I don't want to ruin my diet but I also don't want to offend someone who has probably spent most of the day in preparation .

Tortington · 25/03/2010 09:53

id eiter give myself the night off or tell her that you just want a chicken salad or something

travellingwilbury · 25/03/2010 10:28

I am only on the first week , won't I just ruin it all ? If it was a case of just putting a pound back on and starting again the next day then I could cope with that .

gibbberish · 25/03/2010 10:46

Hello all.

Been a good week so far. Scales not showing any more loss but I'm not that bothered really because I know I haven't cheated. I've done so much dieting in the past that I've probably knackered my system and it's going to take a while to get going. But it WILL come off.

Not feeling like I am on a diet really which is good. Had creamy beany chicken last night from the book - yum. Added a dollop of peanut butter though. Lovely!

Off to do a bit on the wii fit.

Tortington · 25/03/2010 13:08

well if you feel like you will ruin all the hard work and its not worth it - how about ask her to count you out of the meal and make something yourself to take along?

Enchilada81 · 25/03/2010 14:01

I'm throwing in the towel.

I've worked out that since I started this atkins thing, I'm lucky if I reach 1000 calories a day ... of course I'm going to loose weight like that. I don't think its the lack of carbs at all, I think its simply because I'm eating less that I'm losing weight.

I feel crap, my skin is shocking, I have a constant headache, no energy and I'm sick of having to watch every little thing I eat. I can't grab a bite from the bakery anymore, I can't even grab a packet of crisps when I'm feeling peckish. I can't even go to the bog.

So I've decided I'm going to slowly reintroduce carbs back into my diet, starting with eating proper high fibre cereal in a morning. I'm still banning myself from bread, pasta, rice etc but at all other times, I'm going to eat small portions of whatever I fancy.

If the weight starts going back on, I'll admit I was wrong and cut the carbs again.

I wish you all luck! I'll keep popping in and reading about how you're all doing and if I post a message in a couple of weeks whinging that I've put on 7lbs ... you'll know why

FrazzledBlob · 25/03/2010 15:02

Enchilada Low Carbing is not going as planned for you. Go easy on reintroducing the carbs as my GP warned me that if I suddenly ate a load of carbs my body might not know how to handle it and it could make you feel lousy.

Custardo & Sal - those meals sound lovely, might see what some quorn mince or tofu is like in them.

I have just checked on the wii fit and I have got to the 1 stone mark! I weighed in on the 22nd feb so I don't think a stone in a month is too bad going. Another 3 and half to go though

I need to try and eat a little more, I have breakfast, a snack at work, small lunch and tea if i remember. Going to get baking & fill the freezer this weekend.

Anyone craving bread should try the flax seed muffin in the microwave. You can make and cook in a mug or on a plate to make 'slices of bread'. I need to find something hot dog roll shaped to have veggie hot dogs with! oh and some better ketchup as I wasted 3g carbs on a tblsp of ketchup with cheese on toast yesterday and all i could taste was sugar!

Tortington · 25/03/2010 15:24

you can do flax seed crackers as well 2 spoons of flax & two of water mix roll out + 20 - 30 secs in microwave

i think flax/linseed is fucking disgusting! urgh.

anyway. sorry to hear that enchilada.

Tortington · 25/03/2010 15:25

oh and well done on the stone bob

I have spoken to the person who is doing dinner on sat , there is no way I could tell her that I would bring my own , she would be offended forever . I have found out what she is cooking though .
She is doing tartaflette which does have pots in but also lots of cream and cheese and she will do a big salad with it . So as long as I can have more salad than anything I am hoping I won't do too much damage .

FrazzledBlob · 25/03/2010 16:50

just be careful with salads and veggies as the carb count can mount up. You could try and have a really good low carb day up until dinner and then enjoy the meal when you are there?

guess flaxseed is like marmite then? I love both, do hate both custy?

muffin in a mug:

4tblsp ground flax seed (30g approx so 0.5g carb)
1tsp baking powder (1.3g carb, check pack)
1 egg (0.4g carb)
pinch of salt
2tsp or more of water

mix dry bits in a mug add water and egg and mix well. stick mug in microwave for couple of minutes depending on your microwave.

turn mug upside down give it a smack and your muffin should fall out onto plate ready to slice and add cream cheese etc.

This is so flexible as you can add your own flavourings or stick on a plate to make slices.

Last week i needed a choc fix so i broke up 2 squares of 85% choc into the mix and melted choc chip muffin came out [yum]

Talking of puddings I melted 2 squares of the 85% choc in a small dish and then mixed in mascarpone cheese [yummyyyy]
