am indicisive, unsure of which diet is for me, as I you do sometimes wonder about the motives behind the whole industry.

Anyway, this thread is for support through the tough times, celebrations of the good times, virtual (and not so virtual) wine and chocolate when the situation warrants it (or not). Everything you need from a slimming club and more, but without the rules, disapproval, brainwashing, five quid a week, passwords etc...

No need to disclose any personal info, you can weigh-in or not. Up to you.

Apologies to Van the Man, but it just popped into my head... Hoping to welcome old and new friends. See you on the 2nd!

Happy New Year

Yes, count me in - I need a kick in the right direction. Starting in jan of course.

RoseWater · 29/12/2009 00:24

Marks my place for January.

GypsyMoth · 29/12/2009 00:41

Yes, me too please, but for me it's more about moving around as well as eating less. Need to exercise.

kneedeepinthedirtylaundry · 29/12/2009 08:39

Yes, me too TIFFANY ? one of my new years resolutions is to stop smoking altogether (i've been on and off for a while now). My lungs are mashed, and I need to give them a serious work out. So let's encourage one another on the exercise front. I need to get more mileage out of my gym membership.

LovelyWalters · 29/12/2009 22:06

oooh, I'll join if that's ok

need to lose at least 1 1/2 stone and had been on ww but became fed up with it and decided to forget about my weight over Xmas. am gearing up to start afresh on Jan 1st! Was about to rejoin ww but realised I know what I need to do and don't need to pay someone else to tell me how to do it...

so marking my place too...

andirobobo · 29/12/2009 22:14

Hi Ria - seen you around before I think? I will join in - generally just cutting back and moving more is my plan!

Aim to go to gym twice a week min
Use the WiFit twice a week
Smaller portions!

That is all I will commit to for January!

CheeeseOnToast · 29/12/2009 22:31

Hello... can I join?

I'm looking to lose 1/2 - 1 stone before summer, so should be do-able. I used the food focus site for a bit from june - september which made me more aware of what I was eating but everything went t*ts up with work so I ended up abandoning it. I've now left work (redundancy - woo!) so my time is my own for the foreseeable, so I'm planning on running every other day. I did the London Marathon this year so hoping to regain some of that fitness... and eat less of course.

So ultimately I'm planning on moving more and eating less, which I think is the best way to lose any weight long-term. But I could also do with some virtual support, as I won't be working from an office and I'll have to really take responsibility for my consumption! Agh!

Also, like andirobobo, I will commit to smaller portions. I do love my food

HohohoBumperlicious · 29/12/2009 22:34

Hello Ria!

I'm in. I need to come off the 'I might be pg soon' diet - 6 months on it has done me no favours.

So:

Get out the wii fit
Go for walks
Eat less
Find good alternatives to sarnies for lunch.

Want to lose 10lbs.

gloRiaInExcelsisDeo · 29/12/2009 22:35

hi andirobo, I think our paths have crossed on WW and SW threads (fair-weather friend? me?)

Haven't weighed-in since 2 weeks ago (when I had lost 6lb to get into my "funeral" trousers), I expect that 6lb will be back off it's holidays, bringing a few friends! SO with that figure in mind, I want to lose 2 stone initially, then that will leave me with somewhere in the region of 4 stone left to lose. TBH I am more concerned with health issues than what I actually weigh - need to address the pain in my back and hips before my sciatica flares up again. Also would like to be able to wear the stash of size 18/20 clothes I have taking up far too much space because I can't bear to give them away. Need to get walking too as would love to do some major walking in the Dales in the Summer

Hopefully we are having a family day out on NYD, so I won't be starting til at least the 2nd, but may wimp out and leave it til Monday when the kids are back at school.

theslightlypeckishcaterpillar · 29/12/2009 22:44

Hi can I join?

Think I need to lose about 2 stone, try not to weigh myself so not really sure. I already go to the gym 3 times a week(although fat lot of good that does when I get home and tuck into chocolate) but need to stop eating!

whyme2 · 29/12/2009 22:48

I think I just need to eat less. No gimmicks for me - can't afford any.
I have approx 3 stone to lose.

partystress · 29/12/2009 23:11

Hello. I'm in too please. Need to lose 1.5 stone - the giving-up-fags-and-2-DCs lumps, bumps and rolls. Can be good all day then blow it after 8pm. Can't face another summer of looking for cover up clothes in the shops when I want to be wearing t-shirts. Plus I'm having a late conversion to teaching and will have to do gymnastics with a bunch of Year 5s in 4 weeks time. I'm 48 FGS - what was I thinking! So as well as de-fatting, I need to get at least fit enough to demo a forward roll and be able to speak afterwards.

Have put on about 4lb over the hols but have started Wii fitting and managed 25 mins today.

I hereby pledge to get up to 30 mins Wii fitting by Sunday and to eat nuffink apart from fruit after 8pm.

justwhen · 30/12/2009 02:43

Me too please, have just been signed off work for 6 weeks after an operation and am worried I'm gonna turn into even more of a couch potato - not allowed to exercise until spring and need to lose at least a stone

TheTwelveDAISYofChristmas · 30/12/2009 22:11

Hi Ria......I'm in

but not starting until the 2nd.

Will be on the no alcohol, no chocolate, no fatty snacks, increase exercise diet....and will probably do a bit of SW as well.

Need to lose a minimum of 3stone. Currently 12st 10 (and only 5'2" so very porky portly) and want to get to 9st 7, if not less. I have set my heart on getting it all off by my holidays mid August. I'm nearly 41 though and not active (dodgy post pregnancy back and pelvis) so not sure how realistic it is.

I also have ZERO willpower

am considering going to SW classes, but am alos slightly distrustful of the whole diet industry.

gloRiaInExcelsisDeo · 30/12/2009 22:32

walking is the way daisy. (swimming makes my sciatica worse)

have been chatting to a friend tonight, am upping my efforts to support her as she is TTC, but we are (already) pondering on Monday instead of Saturday.

but what to do? stuff myself to the point of now to finish the xmas crap, start later, or do something like WW or SW so I can go with a couple of treats a day to eke the stuff out and finish off in a comfortable way? (Rosemary Conley starts with a pretty harsh 2 weeks - tough at any time, but straight after xmas it will be torture)

shopping tomorrow so need to plan ahead

OP posts:
andirobobo · 30/12/2009 22:43

Plan ahead - that is the way to go! Well I keep trying to do that but failing! That is my main downfall I think! I start off with the intentions and then by day 2 give up!

I finished off the German biscuits today as no one else liked them! I stocked up on satsumas as I love them and also some vergetable soup - low fat / cal but loads of flavour!

I am intending to follow the SW diet but not go to classes, as it is not practical with a nearly 3 year old and an 8 year old - the younger one is a horror and wont sit still. I used to go to classes when he was a baby and he loved all the attention from the old ladies! I managed to lose 19lbs - suffice to say they are all back on!! I have not crept back over my original starting weight when he was born, but getting far too close for my liking!

I have roped my Mum in to babysit him on a Monday - my day off so I can go to the gym. I need to sort out a proper routine for the gym that will get results. Any ideas?

I will start properly on Saturday but have tried to cut down this week. I weighed in at the gym on Monday so I have that as my starting weight in my new notebook!

Lets get going and make 2010 a slim year!

CheeeseOnToast · 31/12/2009 09:45

I started yesterday - thought no time like the present and havent got much crap left over from xmas - and had a reasonable day. The only snack I had was an apple, weetabix for breakfast and pasta with bolognaise for dinner (did have a large portion though, whoops )

I havent been out for a run yet but I have a bad cold so I'm really not feeling up for it. Still, I think I've made a reasonable start. Just from one day not indulging I can already feel my stomach deflating a bit.

But the programme starts for sure on Monday, with a run to kick star things. Hopefully I'll feel a lot better by then...

Oh and we have a little party tonight for NYE... I will stick to veg crudites and champagne (interspersed with sparkling water - my new fave - when it's cold and fizzy it almost feels like diet coke. Almost.)

MABS · 31/12/2009 12:21

can i join please? tho, realistically it will be Mon 4th as at 2 parties sat and sun. I have a stone to lose, tho need to do it with exercise too

kneedeepinthedirtylaundry · 31/12/2009 13:41

Live it up today ladies ? make yourselves sick to the stomach of chocolate, etc. We're all moving forwards tomorrow! Apart from those with social lives and parties to go to, who will be starting on Monday, of course.

Happy new year all.

happynewRia · 31/12/2009 20:59
