am indicisive, unsure of which diet is for me, as I you do sometimes wonder about the motives behind the whole industry.

Anyway, this thread is for support through the tough times, celebrations of the good times, virtual (and not so virtual) wine and chocolate when the situation warrants it (or not). Everything you need from a slimming club and more, but without the rules, disapproval, brainwashing, five quid a week, passwords etc...

No need to disclose any personal info, you can weigh-in or not. Up to you.

Apologies to Van the Man, but it just popped into my head... Hoping to welcome old and new friends. See you on the 2nd!

Happy New Year

Yep I need to join. Need to lose half a stone, would like to lose up to a stone but half a stone to 10lbs would make me very happy

Unfortunately I'm off on holiday to USA for 2 weeks on 30th Jan, which will do my diet no favours but that's why I need to kickstart it now...

Will weigh myself tomorrow morning. I plan to drink more water, have a drink first whenever I feel hungry to see if that helps. Also HAVE TO stop snacking when I'm at home in the day. Have only put the weight on since being a SAHM. Ooops.

andirobobo · 01/01/2010 08:37

Welcome twolittlemonkeys - I know what you mean about snacking - I work 4 days but have snacked none stop over these holidays and I dodnt buy in a load of rubbish! I need to go to work to keep me out of the kitchen!

I am cuttng back today but will start properly tomorrow as DH is off today so we will need to finish off all the little bits left.

RIA - what is this GI jeans one you talk of? Is it a Rosemary Coneley one?

I dusted off the Wiifit yesterday much to the kids amusement and did 15 minutes on it! The original disk was caput but I got the WiiFit Plus one so at least I can do something at home now. I may even dig out my Davina 30 min workout as I can use the kitchen now for exercising as we have extended it.

kneedeepinthedirtylaundry · 01/01/2010 08:44

Good start andirobobo! I danced around the kitchen like a loony with DS for 15 mins yesterday. Going to start going swimming at least twice a week from Monday.

ConnieComplaint · 01/01/2010 13:11

Hi Ria (and everyone else!)

I thought I posted on this thread the other day but I mustn't have!! I was on dh's mobile & it's a tempermental oul thing!

Anyway, I follow the SW plan - and I can't believe I lost 1lb over Christmas!!! And I've been working hard so that I don't gain it over New Year (as I would be more prone to doing!)

Anyway, will be back later for a read & to give my details Am justr eally marking my place. My sister & her family are coming for dinner at 5pm, dh is owrking until 4.30pm so looks like the cooking is down to me... and I've just finished cleaning the house & I need a shower cos Im still in my jammies!!

And my grammar is away to the dogs...

twolittlemonkeys · 01/01/2010 16:30

Ooops not made a good start today. Had waffles egg & bacon for lunch (no breakfast though and I only had one waffle but still feel full...) Am sticking to low-calorie drinks which is hard considering I'm a hot chocolate addict!

HohohoBumperlicious · 01/01/2010 16:46

Starting tomorrow, and kicking off with this, dunno if it works but it's a good way to kick off.

My wii fit plus arrived yesterday, gonna give it a go tonight.

happynewRia · 01/01/2010 22:00

andirobo - it's the Rosemary Conley GI Jeans diet (the white book, not the red one which I believe is the 2nd book and I don't have it - yet!). The first 2 weeks are incredibly tough, but one of the trial dieters lost 12lb! I love SW too, but sometimes I need to be able to have sandwiches.

anyway, enjoying my last night of over-indulgence, ready for tomorrow.

Glad you found us Connie, well done on the loss!

LovelyWalters · 02/01/2010 12:20

ok, have started! After a hellish hangover yesterday I was all set to start running today, but the snow is just too heavy and it's icy (good reasons not to go out!) but instead I did 2 15 minute workouts and worked up quite a sweat.

Had fruit'n'fibre for breakfast (smaller portion than usual) and will be having veg soup for lunch - no bread though.

my plan is simple

  1. no snacks unless it's fruit or raw veg
  2. drink TONS more water
  3. exercise at least 3 times a week - really want to get running!
  4. smaller portions!
  5. no booze, at least for the next 4 weeks. Well, maybe a single galss of wine at the weekend if I've been good all week

am feeling very flabby and fat after the excesses of Christmas, so want to lose at least a stone.

Hope everyone's feeling motivated!

LollipopViolet · 02/01/2010 12:37

can I join? I had a thread but majorly fell off the wagon so going to try again!

I'm off to the gym in a bit, and did about a 3 mile walk with a mate yesterday after coffee and the cinema Mmmmm Caffe Nero caramelatte, so gorgeous but SO unhealthy!

happynewRia · 02/01/2010 18:00

oops. weigh-in worse than I feared, and I think starting today was a bit optimistic (yesterday turned out to be a massive disappointment), today has been too hectic, but I didn't have any chocolate biscuits with my friend. who came for a cuppa.

Am a bit worried about the walking/running on my bad foot. If it still hurts come Monday I'll try and see the Dr and find out what I've done.

Millenniumbug · 02/01/2010 18:30

Hi - I'd like to join you, I've got 2 stone to lose. I'll start on Monday - any xmas chocs etc left can be put away, (or I'll try & finish them first! )
I'm currently 11st 11lbs, but will probably be more by Monday - we're out for Sunday lunch tomorrow!
So, off for a sloe gin & piece of stollen, I'll meet Will Power on monday, see you then.

HohohoBumperlicious · 02/01/2010 20:39

Jeez, weigh in was a shock! Did the detox thing until 6pm today but had a proper dinner. Now I just feel crabby and hungry still so wouldn't recommend it. Want to go on my new wii fit plus game but all the batteries are dead!

Anyway, had curry from the Cook Yourself Thin cook book (small portion) and fruit salad. Still hungry though, which is annoying because had I just eaten normally I wouldn't have been!

feedthegoat · 02/01/2010 20:50

Can I join too please? I've never stuck with a diet in my life but I feel like things are getting a little out of control given the fact that I am about 2 stones heavier than I was right after ds was born. Whoops!

I'm going to start on monday. I have been shopping today and stocked up on fruit and vegtables so here goes. Will get weighed monday too to see the christmas damage but was 11 st 7 lb before.

twolittlemonkeys · 02/01/2010 21:35

Just want to share something I did which might help others... last night I made a massive vegetable chilli using whatever I could find in the fridge and cupboards - an onion, a couple of celery sticks, handful of mushrooms, a couple of garlic cloves, 2 tins of beans (one kidney, one cannellini) and tin of chopped tomatoes (and chilli of course) - it was quite filling and did dinner last night with brown rice and lunch today on its own plus it's really low in fat. DH and DCs piled cheese on top of theirs though, which I was eyeing up enviously!!

No weight loss so far but probably best to only weigh myself once a week I guess. I've been offered so much rubbish to eat today (mince pies, shortbread, chocolate etc) I feel quite pleased I've managed to decline so far!

angelene · 02/01/2010 22:15

Hi all, may I join you?

I have never joined a diet plan but I am now at the stage where I'm on the point of doing the Tesco one. However, I know that this is unlikely to work for me and I believe in the power of MN so I would like to try this.

I don't weigh myself when I'm feeling fat but I know from the lack of clothes that currently look good fit that I seriously need to lose a good amount of heft. I think I'm around 11.5 stones and am 5'4", so I think I need to shift 1.5stone. I can't use my norks to distract from the gut that much longer!

I did a lot of running in the summer and really enjoyed it but I found it really hard to continue once the clocks changed and it got dark. I need to pick this up again and get motivated - so I will commit to do a decent amount of exercise 3 times a week, and if I can't go running then go to the gym. I need to reduce the amount of fat and sugar in my diet - so there will be no alcohol in January to give me a kick start (and also try and do something about my skin), I will stop snacking and I will eat 3 meals a day. I will stop having a full dinner at work (we have a free canteen) and then another full dinner in the evening.

My immediate motivation is that we are going to Australia at the end of March for BIL's wedding - I want to be able to enjoy the holiday and the wedding without worrying about my weight.

My weight has always been up and down and I have a far more fraught relationship with my weight than my sisters. THIS IS WHERE IT STOPS. I have to change my eating habits because I want to feel healthy and look good as much as I can, and to provide a positive role model for my DD.

I would like to support everyone else on this thread too - I know we can do it together!

Blimey, that was a bit long wasn't it?! Sorry all, this is a game changing moment for me. Thanks for reading if you've got this far!

Rugbylovingmum · 02/01/2010 22:26

Hi, can I join in? I'll have to take it slowly as I'm still breastfeeding but I'm sick of wearing the same 3 pairs of maternity trousers. I need to start off by getting back into my pre-pregnancy clothes but I was pretty big even then and I really want to get back to a size 12/14. My plan is:

  1. Cut down on the endless snacking and fizzy drinks (I drink too much coke and have developed a worrying addiction to caramel shortbread slices )
  1. Get moving more - wii fit, lots of walking, my Davina dvd and maybe some jogging if I can manage with the pram.
  1. Cook proper meals rather than the crap I have been eating - anything that can be thrown in the oven, huge plates of pasta or cheese sandwiches.....oh dear.

Going to be making a start on Monday and could do with some support so I don't give up by Tuesday .

LovelyWalters · 03/01/2010 20:46

another ok day - more exercise this morning (10 minute belly fat blaster - did 3 sections so 30 minutes - yay!), healthy food and nothing rubbish. Apart from sugar in my coffee...

planning on making a vat of veggie soup tomorrow and having that for lunch and dinner for a few days. Does anyone know if it would be more carb-friendly to use sweet potatoes instead of white ones? I prefer sweet and tend to chuck them into almost everything I make...!

Downside is that I am in total agony from all the squats I've been doing....no pain no gain, right?

Offering my support and throwing motivational vibes to everyone...

PinkChick · 04/01/2010 09:35

Good luck everyone.xxx

PinkChick · 04/01/2010 09:41

Ria, i thought you got your foot looked at over xmas??.x

CheeeseOnToast · 04/01/2010 14:50

Hi everyone... just checking in, hope everyone's doing ok?

I've been pretty good so far, walked about two miles a day (fast) and just had sushi for lunch today, along with some sparkling water. I have to admit i find it really difficult to eat healthily when it's so cold (I'm in London and it's freezing) but I absolutely must stick to this. I'm due to go for my first run tomorrow morning but there's ice everywhere and it's so, so cold I really am going to struggle to motivate myself tomorrow morning! Agh!

I bought a 'weight loss pilates' DVD a few months back, but I've not done it once - I just dont seem to have the room for all the stretches etc in my front room

Still, more water or tea (no sugar) if i'm peckish and fingers crossed that keeps the wolves at bay...

Hope everyone's doing ok?

LollipopViolet · 04/01/2010 15:06

Went to the gym on Saturday, was gonna go today but yesterday while filming the ice hockey (as I do of a weekend) I ate a tuna and cucumber sandwich that just did not agree with me. Was up all night/this morning with indigestion, and it's still not fully gone now. So far today I've consumed:

1 cracker (dry)
2 slices of toast (lightly buttered)
1 choc chunk cereal bar (92 cals apparently)
1 diet Pepsi
1 Sprite Zero

The last 2 are normal for me, each day, maybe only 1 if I'm busy, but I thought they'd help me burp and sort my stomach, got some fizzy ginger ale too for later

Actually, this not being that hungry business is probably good for me!

Oh, and I encourage you all to come over to General Health and the Shiney thread Really good on there, sort of like this one but more general too

feedthegoat · 04/01/2010 20:29

Well, I assessed the damage this morning and I have only put a pound on over christmas so I'm starting at 11 st 8. I think that says more about how I eat all year round than how I eat at christmas!

I started out well this morning with toast and low fat spread and fruit salad. However, I was just on my way to Boots for a shapers lunch when I fell face first on ice and I then ended up in a & e with a bloodied nose and a couple of black eyes. So I did have a couple of chocolates when laid on sofa feeling sorry for myself!

But I've had a low fat lasagne for my tea so I'll keep trying!

andirobobo · 04/01/2010 21:40

Well I did 33 minutes on the Wiifit today and walked the DC's to the library - which is about 15 mins each way - at toddler pace though!

Been ok foodwise apart from a Costa Coffee muffin (oops!) . Hoping the workout burned that off!

Had soup for tea which was yummy!

Back to work tomorrow (boo and Yeah) so will try to be good - we have a vending machine but I have very little cash in my purse - jsut enough to buy a birthday card I need to get at lunchtime!

angelene · 04/01/2010 21:56

feedthegoat you poor thing, hope you're feeling better soon, don't blame you for the chocolates!

I've had a pretty good day:

Breakfast was tea and Dorset Cereals muesli with s-s milk, I love this and I find it fills me up properly until lunch.
2 satsumas - one during the morning (I normally don't snack in the morning at all but because I didn't have any Innocent left and also I'm obsessing about food I needed it)
Lunch was canteen chicken chasseur and rice - seemed to be just chicken with onion, mushroom and tomato but seemed to be a lower fat option than the cauliflower cheese that I would have normally had on this menu.
A few grapes when I got in from work.
Then a plate of rocket, cherry tomatoes, red pepper, celery with one pitta bread and some low fat houmus (can never spell that).

That's pretty frugal and I don't know that I can keep that up, but I always have to start fairly hardcore to give myself a kick up the arse.

I drink tea with hardly any s-s milk and one can of diet coke after lunch, I just can't drink water in this awful weather (-6 when I left the house this morning! )

No exercise though. Not sure how to fit that in at the moment.

Hope everyone else is doing OK too.

andirobobo · 06/01/2010 21:34

Where have you all gone? All snowed in??

I am reporting a 2lb weight loss - tentively as I have been unable to get to the gym to weigh in there! So used my bathroom scales.

I have been really good - loads of vegetable soup for lunch and very low carb meals for tea - loads of veg, pork steak and 1 potato for tea.

Just got to finish off the christmas cake and then will be fine!!
