am indicisive, unsure of which diet is for me, as I you do sometimes wonder about the motives behind the whole industry.

Anyway, this thread is for support through the tough times, celebrations of the good times, virtual (and not so virtual) wine and chocolate when the situation warrants it (or not). Everything you need from a slimming club and more, but without the rules, disapproval, brainwashing, five quid a week, passwords etc...

No need to disclose any personal info, you can weigh-in or not. Up to you.

Apologies to Van the Man, but it just popped into my head... Hoping to welcome old and new friends. See you on the 2nd!

Happy New Year

grrr, Mnet keeps crashing the laptop. Not that I have anything other than postponed success to report. Have had nearly an extra week of school holidays with DS1. Not helpful.

will catch up with the thread later if I can stay connected to the net long enough.

The good news is that my parents have a treadmill set up in the garage, so there's nothing stopping me once I get organised

angelene · 07/01/2010 21:08

I have nothing much to report other than being unable to get out to buy some scales! So my early frugality will not be measured unfortunately.

I've been doing OK so far - have felt OK and just been drinking tea when I get hungry. My regular breakfast which is pretty healthy, normal dinner at lunchtime, very small supper. Can't get out to do any exercise though, grrr.

andirobobo · 07/01/2010 21:41

Does clearing the drive of snow and then making a snowman count as exercise! It was hard work!!

I am just watching 'My Big Fat Diet Show' and liking the shop they have on that with everything packaged in 100 cal portions! It would be so easy as you could just select 12 to 15 bags of stuff for each day! It would have to be a daily visit though as I could see that I would have nothing left to eat on Day 7! Would definately lose weight though

happynewRia · 08/01/2010 00:00

bugger, just typed a massive post, and it vanished.

feedthegoat, hope you aren't too shaken up.

Hi Pink - the other thread is still there with RG too. Didn't get round to having my foot seen, what with weather, kihds, xmas, DHs work, plans for NYD going arse upetc. Have a feeling nothing could be done anyway though. If the pain gets worse I will go to GP.

will be awol over weekend - birthday time for DS2. birthday tea, the party with friends and party with GPs to come...

angelene · 10/01/2010 21:28

Finally got some scales, they were battery operated and went a bit mental, so went and got some other old fashioned dially things and weighed in at: 12 stone. So a good half stone over my estimate which is why I really need to sort myself out.

I've had a good week - my only slip was that I had to have half an emergency brownie in M&S cafe yesterday when I realised how rubbish their salmon salad is!

Hope everyone else is doing well.

CheeeseOnToast · 11/01/2010 10:17

Hi everyone

Hope things are going well for you all. I still need to get a new battery for my scales... blasted snow!

I've also found a cache of Slim Fast shakes in Boots which are £1 each - down from £1.69 - so I bought a load for this week. I managed to lose quite a bit last summer on slim fast so hopefully it'll work again. Bit grim when it's so cold, but i have to try.

feedthegoat · 11/01/2010 19:35

I hope everyone is well. I'm looking much better but I do think that my nose is broken as it still feels rather unusual to say the least! And I'm afraid I've been using it as an excuse for a distinct lack of will power .

However, I got weighed today and was pleasantly suprised to find that I've managed to lose 3 lb so I am very pleased. I've had the odd thing I shouldn't have but on the whole I'm trying to make healthier choices so that has obviously helped. I think it is really hard though when the weather is so bad, I just want to shut the door and eat!

andirobobo · 11/01/2010 22:51

Well done feedthegoat that is a great start! Hope the nose is better / fixed soon.

Cheeseontoast - I quite like the Slimfast shakes - the coffee ones are lovely and I have occasionally used them for a breakfast on the go. I am diabetic now and as such they have too much sugar in them.

angelene - glad you got some scales - it kind of helps! Mine are digital but seem to vary quire alot, so I am spending 50p a week to get weighed on the gym scales which give a printout!

RIa hope you had a good weekend - sounded busy!!

Where is everyone else hiding?!!

thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 11/01/2010 22:53

LOL at emergency brownie, I do that!

glad you are OK-ish FTG. when my DS2 broke his nose (ably assisted by DS1) he looked like a rugby player for weeks (kind of dark bruise "glasses" over his nose and round his eyes with masses of swelling), even now, 2 years on, when he is of colour the black line comes up over the bridge of his nose

well, I have to confess to having postponed my start date til tomorrow due to snow and birthdays, but am looking forward to it. I have pinpointed 3 dates as goals for the next 3 few months - Valentines (OK, a non-event in this house as DH always works, but I had nothing else for February), March is my birthday, April I am going to a concert with Dsis, and in May a distant relative is visiting and apparently we're having a non-funeral get-together, June is our wedding anniversary, then July we're into school holidays and hiking days out, and hopefully a couple of breaks in the Dales. I don't have an actual goal for each of these events, I would just like to be a little slimmer, fitter and healthier for each one. fingers crossed!

thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 12/01/2010 18:45

am hoping this is going to be a useful resource. Haven't had a good look yet though.

andirobobo · 12/01/2010 21:05

Looks good Ria - it would appear your new name is to o long!!

thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 13/01/2010 13:22

ah well, never mind. unless it's making the page crash? Sure I'll be changing again soon anyway.

GOod day so far today, but no exercise yet as still have pounding headache, DS2 off school ill and it's cold. DH also off work today and irritating me, as well as preventing me from doing a DVD workout.

andirobobo · 13/01/2010 20:16

Nah doesnt make the page crash, just doesnt show it all on the line - ends in dot dot dot! Hey Ho! I hope tomorrow is a better day for you. I have used the PC to do a DVD workout before and escaped to the kitchen (or any other such room that has enough space). I dont like the family to see me huffing and puffing away!

My DD asked me yesterday why I used to go the the slimming class and why I dont go now - she is nearly 8! It is hard to explain to that age the need to go to class to learn how to lose weight - and I dont want her to get a complex about it. She is ultra skinny - not a pick on her and the Wii Fit suggests she has a BMI of 16 and is at the lower end of the healthy weight - so that is quite good for her to see. She laughs at my mini me as its tshirt is too small and has a bulging belly!!!! I think I will have to increase my height to make me look better!

Not had a good dieting day today - got the munchies bad! If I start off well then it is ok, but I had a poor breakfast and then cakes and chocolate, so it went on... tomorrow wil be better.

thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 13/01/2010 23:13

my day was great til now DH was going to make pork chops with roast veg for tea, but I told him the boys wouldn't eat it (I do know these things, I cook for them every day) and then I got an awful stomach ache so went to bed and suggested he give DS2 & 3 beans on toast (cos that's what they wanted) and DS1 jacket spud with beans and cheese. Have had a few nibbly things I shouldn't have had since I got up.

My boys are all too skinny. DS1 went through a horrible phase after healthy eating lessons at school where he couldn't eat anything without questioning it, and wouldn't eat anything with sugar in, and if he did he felt sick. I had an apple for lunch today and DS2 asked if that meant I'd started my diet then

tomorrow is going to be better here too (DH back at work tomorrow night

thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 16/01/2010 17:22

how's the weekend going for everyone?

feedthegoat · 18/01/2010 20:49

I'm afraid I well and truly fell off the wagon this weekend. It started badly with a chinese takeaway for my dads birthday on Friday night and carried on all weekend.

But I got weighed today and there has been no damage done so I've started again today and have stuck to low calorie meals with no snacking (yet! It's approaching my temptation time). I've noticed I'm slightly better on Monday and Tuesday when I work then get progressively worse as the week slides by!

andirobobo · 18/01/2010 21:05

A bit quiet on here!

After a slow start, I can report a 1.5lb loss this week - probably mainly due to increased exercise levels, but whatever, I will take it! I changed my routine and have been doing interval training at the gym for 30 minutes - using a different piece of equipment each time.

I have set my first goal of half a stone by 14th Feb - Valentines day but also my DS 3rd birthday. Should be acheivable if I behave myself!

I have bought a Weight Watchers diary book which will last for 12 weeks and I will eneavour to use that from tomorrow.

andirobobo · 18/01/2010 21:06

Also forgot - I have been putting £1.50 away each week as if I was going to a slimming club, and it will not be spent until I reach the half stone. No temptation as it is residing with my Mother who will not let me have it until then!

thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 18/01/2010 21:08

ah well, never mind. You only fail when you give up (yup, I've been reading magazines again)

crap weekend for me, but somehow I managed to lose 1lb and am having a really good day today, despite having DS1 home with a tummy bug, DS2 home with a cough, and DH being in usual Monday mode. Even dragged them all out for a well-wrapped-up walk on the beach this afternoon to freeze the germs away

Am quite hungry though, but have no wine or crips in the house, and DH should be out until after the shop shuts, so fingers crossed.

Rosemary Conley posts a daily fitness challenge on Twitter and facebook if anyone's interested. I'm quite impressed so far (especially as my first night on Twitter - Saturday - she was celebrating something so gave us the night off)

Here's to a good week...

thistimeIknowitstheRiathing · 18/01/2010 21:11

good for you andirobo. I keep meaning to do that with cash (am supposed to be saving a couple of quid a week to take Dsis out for lunch the day we go out together for my christmas present) but I wouldn't be able to resist the temptation.

My new workout DVD is hard work - I don't have the co-ordination. I wish my dance teacher would start the classes again

feedthegoat · 18/01/2010 21:13

Well done andirobobo, especially for motivating yourself to get exercising with the horrible weather we've had. I just want to curl up in the warmth.

andirobobo · 18/01/2010 21:53

Ah well there is method in the madness - going to the gym allows me to escape the house and therefore the kids for an hour or so. My Mum is so supportive and comes round to mind the littlest Robbo on a Monday for an hour so I can go to the gym. She quite enjoys it I think!

What was the DVD Ria - I have used Davina ones before which are tough but grat if you like her!!

angelene · 18/01/2010 22:34

Hi all, well done on your achievements!

I weighed myself on Friday and was a bit gutted that after 10 days of frugality I had only lost 1lb. But then I weighed again yesterday morning and I'd lost another 3lb since the Friday! Hurrah! It's given me a big lift.

And now the snow has gone I've been able to get to the gym a couple of times and even went for a little run yesterday so I feel lots better.

Today was an excellent day - cereal and juice for breakfast, omelette and beans for lunch, good gym session and just now had some absolutely lush Waitrose Morrocan chicken soup - 142 calories only - and NO BREAD!! I did it! Dead chuffed.

andirobobo · 22/01/2010 13:13

Went to the gym last night and did a great workout. Been eating some lovely home made soup today for lunch - made a big pan and it has done be three days at work - happy days!

Planning on the Wiifit tonight and then two days off over weekend (exercise). Still havent planned food properly - must do that better this week!!

How is everyone else doing?

andirobobo · 22/01/2010 13:19
