Having always been chunky since I was about 17, now I am really at breaking point. I have started so many healthy eating plans in the past and never get beyond the first week until now.

I don't really want to do a 'diet' as such, just cut down on the calories and excercise sensibly. I don't think I could or (want to) cut any food groups out so so far I have been just making healthier choices. More fruit and veg, not snacking on biscuits/ crisps etc. For quick and easy meals, I have been using the weight watchers prepared meals which are suprisingly tastey.

I am 5ft 8 and weighed 13stone 13lbs two weeks ago. Meaning I am nearly obese according to the body mass index. For the past 2 weeks I have been watching what I eat and going swimming twice a week. I now weigh 13stone 7lbs which I am pleased the healthy eating/ fitness plan seems to be working although I am still suffering from cravings and need motivation from you nice mnetters!

My waist is around a size 12 which is fine by me but all my fat seems to collect on my thighs and bum, meaning I have to buy size 18 jeans just to fit over my legs and then they just gape and look horrid around my waist. Nothing fits comfortably on my bottom half, I am so out of proportion.

I have 20 month old ds who keeps me busy but I do feel that having eaten all his left overs and snacking everytime he does for the past 20 months has not been kind to my wobbly bits!!

So that's the story so far.... anyone want o join in or share their stories??

4lbs loss. Keep going, we will get there!

OP posts:
pscc · 16/04/2009 16:29

can I join? Having just eaten a packet of oreo biscuits all by myself I feel like shit- and know I have to do something.
A bit too embarrased to say (or even write down) my weight- can I just say what if any I have lost? How often do you weight yourself? I have probably weighed myself twice in the last year?!

savageisfat · 16/04/2009 17:31

Welcome pscc, of course you can join in!!! We all weigh our selves on a Thursday, to allow for treats and slip ups over the weekend!!!

We are all atthe moment I think just cutting down on the junk and trying to change our attitude towards food. I could have written your post a month ago. Eating full packets of Jaffa Cakes to myself just for a snack. I do feel a lot more in control of my snacking and binging now which is a massive step forward for me. Hopefully we'll all get there together. How much are you wanting to lose? There is no pressure to write down your weight at all. We are here to support eachother so you don't need to feel ashamed though. xxx

Sockmonster jewellery is incredibly heavy i should knock at least half a stone

nannyogg · 16/04/2009 18:20

welcome pscc!

sockmonster, I tried your infidelity thing in the supermarket. It worked! I walked straight past the choccies and biccies thinking, "no, no, that's cheating".

I've joined WLR for a month, going to have a go at calorie counting again for a while (snore)

Let's shrug it off and put it down to easter everyone - and off we go again....

savageisfat · 16/04/2009 18:56

Eeeek I have a feeling after reporting my 4lbs loss I have just put it all back on!!! My Nanna baked a cake and dropped it off and i've just eaten about a quater of it (it's pretty big too!!!) damn it, I cheated sorry, will try harder. I just got a bit giddy after the weigh in and thought I'd celebrate. Why oh why do I keep doing this to myself! Arrrgh. Time to stop thinking about it and start again, just wanted to fess up after saying I felt much more in control. Mmmmm it was nice though!

Nannyogg WLR sounds pretty good. I was looking on that link earlier and thought I might give it a go. It seems sensible.

OP posts:
nannyogg · 16/04/2009 19:58

It did the trick for me last year savage. I know calorie counting is faddy and dull and seems a bit, well, intense, but what it did for me was just make me think about what I was eating day to day, and it gives you a reason to stop when you're tempted to go too far, ie over your daily calorie allowance.

The WLR site is good too as it allows you to enter any exercise you do, which then provides you with more calories to eat. So if you do an intense workout, or long walk or whatever, you get the amount of calories you've burnt added to your daily allowance.

And this is the best bit - it works over a week, so you can carry calories over to other days. So you can do really well and save a hundred cals a day during the week and then add them to Saturday night - pizza, chocolate, wine!

It worked for me, but you have to be honest and write down every single morsel that passes your lips. That's the kicker, but the database is really good and you can add things you have a lot to your favourites. And it's relatively cheap, and the recipes are good, and the tips and challenges are good too.

Jeez, I went on there a bit didn't I. Maybe I should charge them commission

caramelwaffle · 16/04/2009 20:00

Sockmonster - yes tis' very heavy .

Welcome, pscc

Savageisfat - Oh wow. I have just noticed you have lost just under half a stone. I really don't think you've put 4lb on in a couple of hours. It's just a few cake crumbs that have fallen on the scales to make the digits look different

Has anyone seen the magazine headlines by Natalie Cassidy this past week? I must confess I have not fully read all of the articles. However she is apparently over the moon at having put on all the weight she lost last year. She talks about previously losing the weight partly by "taking laxatives after every meal" (!)
Sooo not good for you. I have been there.

This is why I came to this thread. To join like-minded people looking for a LONG TERM solution.

caramelwaffle · 16/04/2009 20:02

If I promise to do at least one hour excercise tomorrow, will every one else agree to the same?

caramelwaffle · 16/04/2009 20:06

I will have a sneeky peek at that site I think nannyogg

pscc · 16/04/2009 21:02

hiya,
Thanks- I will be aiming for a stone at a time (probably about 4/5?). Will try to walk for 1 hour tommorrow.
anyone else up for walking/exercise?

plusonemore · 16/04/2009 21:07

hiya god i have been soooo grumpy today and I think I know why. Today is the first day I have really been good and not had any extras/naughty bits AT ALL!! So I am feeling food (esp sugar) deprived. Hopefully my body will adjust soon enough cos I dont want to feel this miserable all the time!!

There is another food diary site that is free here and you can also enter exercise etc, it shows graphs to track your progress. Didnt have netball on though! I used it for a couple of weeks but then missed a couple of days and couldnt be bothered to go back and add it in.

savage dont feel too bad, youve done really well and at least you recognise your slip up and havent blanked it!!

nannyogg · 17/04/2009 07:47

I'm up for walking - will probably take the dog out for a long wander while DH makes tea tonight.

God I'm aching from that keep fit class the other night. Must be working if it's hurting this much

I'm also a member of food focus plusone..lol I liked it but the food database really annoyed me, wasn't as easy to use IMO.

Plus, the fact that I have to pay to use WLR is another motivator to do it every day. I think 'if I'm paying for it I'd better bloody well use it'.

thesockmonsterofdoom · 17/04/2009 08:20

the food focus site is really good, i did it at the beginning of the yea, only problem is I forgot for a few days and couldnt be bothered to go back and do it, may start again though. juicing abandoned after only one juice as i realised what a silly thing it is to be doing. I wil;l try and eat all the fru9it i bought though, that should be good.
I do quite a lot of walking just day to day stuff. I am looking forward to getting some more excercise in next week as dd2 starts pre school . I will be a lady of lesisure for 2.5 hrs a day.

alicecrail · 17/04/2009 08:34

I will be riding for half hour today and mucking out for half hour - Does that count as 1hours excercise?

thesockmonsterofdoom · 17/04/2009 09:19

I reckon it does.

Goldberry · 17/04/2009 15:32

Belated and disappointing weigh-in for me. Unsurprising after Easter excesses though. Back to the grindstone tomorrow!

I've been getting plenty of exercise as we're doing a heap of diy this week, but I've put that pound back on again, due probably to a big roast dinner and choccy egg, plus TBH I'm eating what I fancy as I've been too busy to really care. I'm sure the exercise is doing me good though, even though it's not been burning off that many calories.

savageisfat · 18/04/2009 08:02

plusonemore I hope you are feeling happier today!!! It's hard when your body is used to sugary treats and then you just go cold turkey but it will be worth it and once you break that craving then you can enjoy the treats in moderation without being a slave to your blood sugar!

All going well here. DS driving me bonkers by climbing everything so at least he's keeping me busy and not I'm not just sat snacking. I always feel more tempted on a weekend to eat junk but I should be quite busy today. I am going wedding dress shopping with my friend who's getting married next year and she wants my opinions on the bridesmaid dress she's chosen for me which will be fun. I don't often do girlie things so I am quite looking forward to it and dh gets to spend the rest of day chasing around after ds! Just hope my friend doesn't want to stop off for lunch anywhere, or I'll be struggling eating something healthy and watching her eat whatever she wants .

OP posts:
alicecrail · 18/04/2009 08:38

I'm not doing too well with the diet (i really struggle - i really love my food ) But i feel the exercise is doing some good. I have ridden for at least 25mins everyday for the last 3 days and i rode on sunday too. I feel like there are actually some muscles in my tummy (you can't see them or anything, but i can feel them aching )

It's lovely and sunny here today, so i am hoping to spend most of the day outside (which means less eating ) i hope everyone else has a good day

nannyogg · 18/04/2009 09:09

Went out for a walk with dog last night, looking forward to spag bol cooked by DH. Unfortunately I got a migraine half way round my usual circuit and had to rush home to bed. Had a horrendous night, threw up quite violently, felt just awful

Got on the wii fit this morning to weigh myself and I've lost 2lb! Not that I'd recommend skipping tea and throwing up for weight loss of course...

Feeling a bit better today. I'd better perk up soon cos I'm supposed to be going to see We Will Rock You later...don't know if I'll be able to stand the noise though.

savage - don't deny yourself, you lost 4lb this week - if that's not a cause for celebration I don't know what is..have a nice guilt free lunch with your friend. You can make up for it later.

Onlyaphase · 18/04/2009 16:45

God NannyOgg, your migraine sounds horrendous. Nice boost to lose a couple of pounds though?

My Wii Fit has been having ishoos this week - got on it yesterday to be told I'd lost 8lb. Re-weighed myself on it, it said I'd only lost 6 this time. The thing is, I'd just weighed myself on the bathroom scales and I know I haven't lost any weight, still 13 st 12. Still, it was good to see my BMI in the Overweight range, not obese!

I'm still doing the couch to 5 K, about to start week 4 on Monday. What with this, and the odd spot of dog walking, I might manage 60 mins of exercise a day.

Just trying to eat less doesn't seem to be working for me, have decided to calorie count instead. Does anyone else remember how difficult it used to be to do this - food didn't have all this labelling back in my teens, so you had this handy booklet giving you all the calorie counts per ounce (and my mum only had those big old fashioned scales with real weights!). So much easier now everything is labelled, and we have the internet!

Savage - congrats on the weight loss and I hope you had a really lovely girly time today shopping. And hi to everyone else to

savageisfat · 18/04/2009 19:36

Hiya everyone,

hope you are feeling better Nannyogg, your migrane sounds truly horrid!

I had a fab day with my friend today, picked out the bridesmaid dress although she's not getting married til next year so thankfully didn't get measured for it or anything as fingers crossed I'll be slimmer by then!!!

Nannyogg I did as yo said and didn't deny myself but we stopped off in a lovely little cafe bar for lunch and she said she only wanted a sandwich so I was relieved. I just got a chicken salad sandwich on brown bread so I didn't blow the diet completely but also felt good that she wasn't eating yummy things that I wouldn't have been able to resist!!!

I calorie count too now onlyaphase, I find I have to cos somdays I feel like I've eaten really well but calorie wise I've eaten more than I should, yet other days I think I've eaten loads yet had fewer calories if that makes sense? Thank god it's all labelled now tho eh? I find it a bit boring but very easy to keep track of how many I've eaten although I never know how many I should be aiming for. I always try and go for about 1400 as that's what the weight watchers diets used to reccommend for a weight loss of 2lbs a week but I suppose it depends on the individual and their metabolism.

Anyway, how's the weekend going for everyone?
