Having always been chunky since I was about 17, now I am really at breaking point. I have started so many healthy eating plans in the past and never get beyond the first week until now.

I don't really want to do a 'diet' as such, just cut down on the calories and excercise sensibly. I don't think I could or (want to) cut any food groups out so so far I have been just making healthier choices. More fruit and veg, not snacking on biscuits/ crisps etc. For quick and easy meals, I have been using the weight watchers prepared meals which are suprisingly tastey.

I am 5ft 8 and weighed 13stone 13lbs two weeks ago. Meaning I am nearly obese according to the body mass index. For the past 2 weeks I have been watching what I eat and going swimming twice a week. I now weigh 13stone 7lbs which I am pleased the healthy eating/ fitness plan seems to be working although I am still suffering from cravings and need motivation from you nice mnetters!

My waist is around a size 12 which is fine by me but all my fat seems to collect on my thighs and bum, meaning I have to buy size 18 jeans just to fit over my legs and then they just gape and look horrid around my waist. Nothing fits comfortably on my bottom half, I am so out of proportion.

I have 20 month old ds who keeps me busy but I do feel that having eaten all his left overs and snacking everytime he does for the past 20 months has not been kind to my wobbly bits!!

So that's the story so far.... anyone want o join in or share their stories??

hi
well done savage i would have been tempted by a smoked salmon and cream cheese sarnie

nannyogg i can sympathise i get migraines too although (touch wood) havent had one since ds2 was born, maybe its hormones keeping them away?

going to try to set myself a little challenge every day, food or exercise. Todays is to not to have any of the crisps that we share in the pub after netball tonight!! I know now it will be really hard when they are just there on the table but i will try to sit furthest away and am going to visualise refusing! And as I'm driving it will just be a half, or would a small glass white wine be better calorie wise?

Anyone else want to make one?

thesockmonsterofdoom · 20/04/2009 07:54

savage that sounds like a lovely day, nannyogg hope yiou are feeling better, migraine are so tedious arent they? I have taken to taking the dyhydracodeine that I had left over from when I had my breast reduction last year. Not good I know but I hate migraines so much.
I did an hour on the wii fit yesterday and am planning on doing an hour eveyday this week as I have a child free time every day as dd2 starts nursery today .
today however I am npt going to p[laygroup so that should be half a pack of biscuits I dont eat
I am having no treats at all today. howsd that for a challenge.

nannyogg · 20/04/2009 08:22

Hi all, thanks for the sympathy, sorry you get them too. They're really crap aren't they? The worst thing about it is that after years of getting them every month or so I finally went to the docs last year and he put me on some medication. Hadn't had one since December!

Went to We Will Rock You, very entertaining. But, went to sit down to tea afterwards and another migraine started! Was in the middle of Manchester, no car, had to get home. Fortunately my lovely BIL came to pick us up and I got home and got to bed. It wasn't as horrendous as the last one but still I'm they seem to be back. I'll go to the docs this week sometime.

Anyway. I had a day off the weight watching yesterday - was craving carbs so I gave in to it . It's like then when you've been a bit off though isnt it?

I'm at work today so my challenge is to resist all the chocs and biccies they have lying around. I've also got some free time after work and before dd finishes nursery so I'll do some wii fit then too. I'm going to set a weekly challenge too. I'm going to save up a few calories each day on WLR so that I can use them up on Saturday night (sister's birthday)

Have a good week everyone!

savageisfat · 20/04/2009 08:42

Morning everyone, sorry you got yet another migrane nannyogg, deffinitely go to the docs again though. I've only ever had one migrane and that was about 4 years ago but it was hideous, I do sympathise and hope they get sorted again.

I was very naughty on my supposed healthy eating plan last night, I'd been so good all weekend and then I went and ate an entire bloody pizza! I am so weak when it comes to pizza! We'd been busy gardening all day and ds had already eaten his tea so once he was in bed dh said shall I order us some pizza and me being such a pig jumped at the chance and we had a full small one each plus potato wedges. It was beautiful but so not worth it!

I keep falling off the wagon spectacularly don't I??? It's not even like I just have the odd slip up. I go for a week or more being really good and then I just go right back to needing junk food again! Arrrghh! I really hope it doesn't affect the weigh in on Thursday. I've been excercising over the weekend and must have burned off a fair few calories gardening and cutting the grass yesterday

Back to the grindstone today though. Had a slice of wholemeal toast and a glass of juice for breakfast. Having salad for lunch and vege stir fry for tea so that's not too bad.

Good luck everyone for the next week, hopefully I will show a bit more restraint!

OMG, I have done it, I have just gone to the cupboard to get a packet of crisps, closed it again and eaten an ............

wait for it......................

APPLE

I never in a million years thoiught I could do that, it was so easy, now i feel empowered.
so far today I have had
granola
rice for lunch and an apple,
I have done an hour in the wii fit. I am on a roll, now to keep it up.

nannyogg · 20/04/2009 14:02

Aww savage, give yourself a break. Pizza is sooooo tempting. Before I went to the docs about my migraines I had not eaten cheese for years. When he said it was ok to do so I went cheese mad, and I've had tons of pizza!

But your one pizza blip doesn't matter in the scheme of things. What matters is that you're aware of it and can make up for it if you want to.

Anything in moderation, it was one pizza on one night (ok and some wedges). I think the food doctor said something about trying to be healthy 80% of the time - anything else means you're depriving yourself and you'll become miserable.

Anyway, I'd consider it a reward for all the hard work you've been doing.

thesockmonsterofdoom · 20/04/2009 14:18

tha makes sense, trying to create a sustainable weight loss programme means not depriving yourself too much or you will never stick to it. I am trying to be really good in the week and do as I please at the weekend. I dont tend to eat as much at the weekend anyway as I dont want dh to realise I am a pig, alcohol is my big downfall, trying to switch to vodka and diet coke rathr than pints of lager.

plusonemore · 20/04/2009 15:40

so far so (mostly) good
toast and banana for brekkie
Healthy tuna cucumber sarnie &apple for lunch
walked in cake shop in town, looked, made myself walk out emptyhanded (feeling very smug) and then came home and ate leftover (1/3 of tub) sainsburys taste the difference rady made custard oops oh, and some crusty bread. i was hungry. But no cake!!!

savageisfat · 20/04/2009 20:53

I have decided to let go of my guilt for pigging out yesterday, it was only one (whole!!!) pizza lol! It was bloody lovely aswell so I can't regret it too much! Been reasonably good today though. Eaten lots of fruit instead of snacking on crisps etc.

Plusonemore well done on not buying the cake!!! I'm sure the custard will have done you good, we all need plenty of calcium!

Poor ds looked at my salad at lunch and said 'yuuuuuck mamma' and proceeded to eat through an entire bowl full of his vegetable risotto. He doesn't do lettuce or anything remotely leafy, yet will eat his body weight of green beans and sweetcorn .

Anyway, hoping I do well again tomorrow. Hope you are all doing well. I must admit I got out the bath earlier and my bum did seem to wobble a little less lol!

I'm afraid i've had 2 really bad nights food wise too. Last night we had chinese take away, although we ordered 1x chicken with cashews in yellow bean sauce, 1x special fried rice, 1x bag prawn crackers between the two of us and it was plenty. Normally we would order a dish each. And tonight we had roast dinner
I have been very good with the exercise and drinking more water. I have ridden everyday since wednesday and yesterday i was running about all day. I really feel that the riding is helping because everything is starting to feel tighter. I had a day off today though as everything is feeling too tight!! (every muscle in my body is hurting)

plusonemore · 21/04/2009 08:00

alice doesnt sound too bad, could have been much worse!

I did it last night- didnt hsve even one crisp at the pub even though there were 3 lovely bags on the table. Yay!

Todays challenge: do strictly dance exercise dvd

Onlyaphase · 21/04/2009 12:12

Plusonemore good on you for not eating crisps - am very impressed

Alice your dinners sound lovely, and not too bad considering.

I'm trying to make sure I'm as active as possible all day, what with gardening and running up and down stairs as often as possible, and have finally started counting calories properly - have just realised why I am so heavy - my favourite snack of a thick slice of toasted homemade bread, topped with peanut butter and jam is well over 400 cals! And it is horrendous just how many calories are in butter. Easy to see why I am bursting out of size 16 jeans these days!
I'm also continuing with the running on the couch to 5K program - yesterday was my first run in week 4 and there was such a jump in running distances from week 3 I thought I had the wrong week playing on my iPod. Sadly not though

Savage your DS sounds just like DD - will only eat green beans, peas and sweetcorn. Nothing else remotely green or vegetably makes the grade

savageisfat · 21/04/2009 12:16

Well done alice on the riding, it must be an amazing workout and well done plusonemore, crisps are my biggest down fall (except pizza )

Today I've eaten well and spent all morning walking with ds in pushchair. Went up to town which is a fai walk all up hill so hopefully that'll have done some good.

Not sure what to have for tea though... any suggestions for something healthy but that doesn't taste like diet food??!

savageisfat · 21/04/2009 12:20

x posted with Onlyaphase! my ds is a good eater really, but anything leafy he won't touch, even broccolli he just shakes his head and says 'no trees'. Strange little chap. Pleased he's not the only one who loves green beans though, everyone thinks he's weird for loving them!

OP posts:
Onlyaphase · 21/04/2009 13:11

Savage, for supper what about a noodle and veg/prawn/chicken stir fry with one of those sachets of Blue Dragon sauces. One of my favourite meals and not that bad for calories either. Or a massive salad with something yummy on top?

I'm having spaghetti with a tiny amount of butter and parmesan, with roasted aubergine and courgette chunks. I love it, DH isn't so keen (especially on the aubergine!) and DD loves spaghetti.

thesockmonsterofdoom · 21/04/2009 13:12

I did realy well yesterday until I went out and drank 2 bottles of beer and some vodka,
am behaving again today, I have a week and 3 days till I go away so got to kep going,
again todays target is no treats and 1 hr ion the wii fit.

plusonemore · 21/04/2009 14:05

onlyaphase I too love toast, currently have 2 slices for brekkie but bought some special K to swap it with (anyone compared special k to corn flakes? SK has more calories and fat than CK!! But SK has lots more fibre.) Had some today and its actually very tasty, not at all like bran flakes which i hate!

savage i am having lamb burgers tonight from good food magazine. It lamb mince mixed with cous cous, mint, some other stuff i cant remember, then you do homemade sweet pot chips, roasted with drizzle of oil, then add some smoked paprika for last 10 mins. I serve with salad and raita! Yum!

savageisfat · 21/04/2009 14:32

Yummy all your meal suggestions sound delicious! I am deffinitely going to use them all when I am struggling for inspiration. I love cooking but with a 20 month old round my ankles all day it's often hard! Thay all sound relatively easyish to make so shouldn't be a problem.

I think I may make the spaghetti tonight as I have all the ingredients already in. I always get wholemeal pasta and spaghetti anyway which apparently is better for you and I find it much nicer tasting and less soggy.

I will let you know how the meal turns out! Just been a bit naughty though and had a slice of cake at my neighbour's house, only small but probably very calorific but never mind, I fancied a treat!

Savage tonight i have made a pasta sauce of :
Half of one small onion (finely chopped)
Half a red pepper (diced)
1x tin of tomatoes

Cook onion and pepper in a bit of olive oil until soft, add tinned tomatoes and simmer for about 10mins. Allow to cool slightly and then blend til almost smooth but not liquid and add to pasta. It's really easy and freezes well and low in all bad stuff!! I usually add sweetcorn/tuna/chicken/mixed veg to it when cooked.

savageisfat · 21/04/2009 21:15

Ooo alice that pasta sauce sounds simple and very yummy, also something ds would like so thank you for all the suggestions! I think sometimes I just run out of healthy ideas. I often make healthy meals for ds and freeze them then give him them so me and dh can pig out on junk that's really bad isn't it?? I know we should all be eating the same healthy meals and be setting ds a good example. I am trying thouh and the spaghetti I made earlier was delicious so thanks for that recipe!

I love stir fries at the moment and I am relieved thatthey are relatively healthy and it's something we can all eat and enjoy. I just get so down with having to eat 'diet' food and cooking separate meals for everyone which isn't easy with a toddler (as you all know!)

Anyway, I am going to try the pasta sauce on friday alice so I will let you know how it goes. It sounds lovely and so simple that even I couldn't cock it up (but cross your fingers anyway!)

I went swimming tonight but made the mistake of going with my dad so I think I only did about 10 lengths and spent the rest of the time chattering but it's better tha nsitting on my bum at home thinking about food!

OP posts:
plusonemore · 22/04/2009 07:31

alice that sauce sounds nice i make a similar one. Have been thinking bout grating a carrot in too for sweetness and goodness, what dya reckon?

did one of my strictly dance workouts last night, it was ok. Todays challenge is to do pilates dvd, walk to baby yoga not car, then i have a tricky one cos got netball get together tonight with drinks and food...shall i have a night 'off' or try to be good? or have some but just not go mad?

savageisfat · 22/04/2009 08:37

plusonemore I'd have some nice food but not go too mad cos if you're anything like me you will feel really down about it tomorrow and no matter how yummy the fod is, it's not worth demotivating yourself and feeling crap about it all this week. Doesn't mean to say that you can't indulge yourself a bit though! Have some treats and don't restrict yourself too much but don't do what I do and eat everything on offer!

I like the sound of grating carrot into the sauce too.

All OK here, had a healthy breakfast, having jacket potato for lunch and just a weight watchers meal for tea as dh is out tonight so not bothering to cook.

Been eating apples for snacks and I have to say it's not bad. I thought it would be really hard work eating fruit but actually I am quite enjoying it. I barely even think about junk food now whaich is such an improvement on a few weeks ago.

OP posts:
plusonemore · 22/04/2009 09:48

yeah think your right. Annoyingly though I weighed myself this morning just in case and I am the same as last week- and I have been sooooo good!!! Dont you hate that

thesockmonsterofdoom · 22/04/2009 10:15

plusone, pick one thing that you will have as a treat and then be good, then you are not depriving yourself but you wont be tempted to go mad, enjoy the treat, take your time over it. I did brilliant again yesterday and am just having a good breakfast now. I have just done 30mins on wii fit but I am a bit achy so going to leave it at that today, it told me that my ideal weight is 9st 6, thats a very long way off.
I am trying to get back into the mindset i was in ewhen I lost 4 stone, i know I can do it so just got to keep going. Gping to visit my friend is keeping me motivated for this week, then I will have to find another mimi goal.

alicecrail · 22/04/2009 20:36

Was wondering if you all thought i could use chocolate as motivation for a major crisis clean tomorrow? You know, one square after i've finished all the hoovering, one after tidying the kitchen etc. Would that be allowed as it is weigh day tomorrow? Please??? don't --make- me beg
