Having always been chunky since I was about 17, now I am really at breaking point. I have started so many healthy eating plans in the past and never get beyond the first week until now.

I don't really want to do a 'diet' as such, just cut down on the calories and excercise sensibly. I don't think I could or (want to) cut any food groups out so so far I have been just making healthier choices. More fruit and veg, not snacking on biscuits/ crisps etc. For quick and easy meals, I have been using the weight watchers prepared meals which are suprisingly tastey.

I am 5ft 8 and weighed 13stone 13lbs two weeks ago. Meaning I am nearly obese according to the body mass index. For the past 2 weeks I have been watching what I eat and going swimming twice a week. I now weigh 13stone 7lbs which I am pleased the healthy eating/ fitness plan seems to be working although I am still suffering from cravings and need motivation from you nice mnetters!

My waist is around a size 12 which is fine by me but all my fat seems to collect on my thighs and bum, meaning I have to buy size 18 jeans just to fit over my legs and then they just gape and look horrid around my waist. Nothing fits comfortably on my bottom half, I am so out of proportion.

I have 20 month old ds who keeps me busy but I do feel that having eaten all his left overs and snacking everytime he does for the past 20 months has not been kind to my wobbly bits!!

So that's the story so far.... anyone want o join in or share their stories??

Thinking of going running tonight. Not sure if I'll be able to go for more than a minute down the road but I am thinking if I just build up from that hopefully my stamina will improve right???

I just feel so bloody stagnant at the minute, haven't done any excercise for ages. Healthy eating going well though, haven't had any slip ups lately which is a bloomin miracle considering it's bank holiday weekend and dh is here eating everything in sight.

Hope you all had a good easter.

I went running yesterday fopr the first time since about december, wasnt too bad, my legs are a bit sore this morning though. gradual build up is definatly the way to go.

alicecrail · 13/04/2009 12:07

Good luck with the running
I'm hoping to ride this afternoon (i have only just stopped feeling sore after thursdays lesson!)But had really better get into gear as i have another lesson on wednesday and i'm competing on sunday. It's things like this that give me the kick up the bum i need, could you have little targets like this with the running? I definitely work better with a little pressure otherwise i am so lazy.

Onlyaphase · 13/04/2009 17:32

For the running, I'm following the couch to 5K program at the moment - I love it as it is so structured - 3 runs each week, with more running and less walking each week. I do think that without this I'd struggle to go out running 3 times a week, and to actually run more each time.

There is only 4 tiny chocolate eggs left in the house, and no other junk. Am very pleased about this! I think I'm stuck in rut food wise at the moment - even though I desparately want to shed 3 stone, I don't manage to eat less.

thesockmonsterofdoom · 13/04/2009 17:39

only a phase, that is what I did this time last year. I ran race for life, i then did a 10k in the summer and another 10k in december. I haveent really run since then but you seem to keep a basic fitness level as the run I did yesterday for 4.5k and I ran it all, must say I am a bit achey today though.
I think it is a great program as it shows those of us that have never run before that it can be done.

alicecrail · 14/04/2009 07:49

I must admit that i'm not doing that great with food at the moment either. We had a huge roast on sunday, and last night DH and i (mostly me) ate a box of celebrations I did ride yesterday though, and i am hoping to ride again today. The biggest problem is that i talk myself out of riding - my leg hurts, dd is teething, i've got too much to do, etc. And then the longer i leave it the less likely i am to get on again iyswim? With the food situation i am good all day, and then comes the evening and if there is anything yummy in the house i can not sit still knowing it is there.

Goldberry · 14/04/2009 11:10

Just had a look at the couch to 5k website, Onlyaphase. Had never heard of it, but it looks really good. I mostly do exercise dvds and use the exercise bike. I do go out for a run sometimes, but I find it really hard going! I haven't eaten so healthily for the last few days either. Easter doesn't help, but I think I was also comforting myself after the shock of my one-year-old ds falling down a full flight of stairs and hitting his head on the wooden floor. He's fine, thank goodness, but I think I've got a few more grey hairs...

alicecrail · 14/04/2009 13:12

goldberry!! thats sounds horrid! I am so paranoid about dd falling down the stairs (she's never allowed near them, but it doesn't stop me worrying!) I think i would have comfort ate too

plusonemore · 14/04/2009 18:50

goodness youve all been busy with running and falling down stairs scares! I cant do running, am no good at it and it hurts my knees. Played netball last night though which I love

Been quite good on the choc front...not too much really! Read a little bit of this book in a charity shop today called 'how to stick to a diet' Might go back and get it actually. It talked about turning things round in your head e.g. at a party 'I want that yummy food' becomes 'I may want that food but I can do without it quite easily' Not the best example but you get the jist (sp?) I need an inner voice corrector like that!!! Usually mine goes like this 'I want that yummy food and I'm going to have it...as much as I want...then I'll be good tomorrow'

thesockmonsterofdoom · 15/04/2009 07:28

I have decided, now bear with me here as it is very odd, to view food as infidelity.
Quite often you see someone that you fancy but you are not going to jump into bed with them because that would be horrid and cruekl to your dh and make you feel like absolute crap afterwards, although you may well enjoy the moment.
So what is the difference with chocolate, you get a moments pleasure from it and then feel like crap afterwards, you dont need it, you just quite fancy it, you cant have everything that you fancy, end of.
What do you think?

alicecrail · 15/04/2009 07:42

That is GENIUS!

savageisfat · 15/04/2009 08:26

Oh Goldberry I really hope your ds is OK! Sounds like he had a nasty fall.

thesockmonster your infidelity plan sounds like it might be enough to work for me! I think it's very true. I'd never cheat on dh but somehow I constantly cheat myself by eating rubbish and then sit and regret it for days!

I have been scarily good on my diet but only really because I haven't been feeling too well over easter, nothing mmajorly wrong but I've just felt a bit queasy and not had much of an appitite for the past 2 or 3 days. I have been eating but only really healthy things when I've needed to and the urge to snack has completely gone now.

I didn't go for my run the other night , I didn't really feel 100% but now I'm feeling better I am going to check out tht 5k thingy and really give it a go. I need to do excercise cos no matter how much I eat healthily I sort of feel it's being wasted if I don't actually change my lifestyle. I haven't even been swimming for about 2 weeks. I need a massive kick up the bum!

I have no idea how much weight I've lost this week but I am hoping there will be a loss. I feel like my trousers and baggier round my legs and I feel a tiny bit slimmer but not sure if it's just in my head! If I haven't lost anything then I'll be a bit disappointed cos I can't even say 'oh well it's because muscle weighs more than fat' because I know I've done nothing to increase the muscle either!!!

Still, I've already gon from 13stone 13lbs a month ago to 13 stone 5lbs last week so that's not too bad (trying to reassure myself!!!)

How does everyone feel today?

OP posts:
thesockmonsterofdoom · 15/04/2009 08:33

Thats better than not bad, I am on a bit of a crash emergency now, I have 2 weeks till I am going for a long weekend to stay with my best friend, organised last night as I need a break. anyway all my nice clothes are a 12 and I am a definate 14, so I am going to have a week of juicing, I did it before xmas and it made me feel great, i know it is not a long term solution to anything, but it is a quick fix and I wuill get back to normal healthy weight loss methods when i get back, so hopefully I will have a good loss to report next week.
I was going to go running again yesterday but my legs still hurt from sunday, i went to sleep instead when my mum had the dc

nannyogg · 15/04/2009 14:19

I've been a bit naughty with the chocolate over the weekend but I've been very good since. Went out for a looooong walk on Saturday morning but then had the in laws round Sat evening and out came the choccies. Oh well, we'll see tomorrow.

goldberry, hope DS is ok now, I think the comfort food can definitely be forgiven in that situation!

savage your weight loss is a brilliant achievement, I know you can keep it up!

Personally, I'm sick of being stuck around this same spot. I think I need to do something to seriously kick start myself. According to the wii fit I need to lose 7lbs to get down from obese to 'just' overweight, that's my next goal. I'm considering slim fast for a week or so...or I might invest in a juicer and join you sockmonster, tell me more!

alicecrail · 15/04/2009 18:56

I don't think i could do juicing, but i have tried slimfast in the past and it did work - possibly because milk makes me feel sick and so i didn't feel like eating much but at least i know there is a way in an emergency! (i can't actually think of anything that would need me to lose weight in an emergency, but you know what i mean )
I have been reasonably good today, but will end up eating late as DH is going to be home from work at about 9. I had a 40min riding lesson today and i'm feeling a bit sore already but i think it may have given me the kick up the bum i need to get on with my horses and ride everyday. I am feeling really motivated at the moment - if only i could bottle it for tomorrow!!!

savageisfat · 15/04/2009 19:17

Thanks nannyogg, feeling better after your comment. I was starting to crave a bit of chocolate but have remembered the infidelity theory now and it's just not worth it!!!!

The juicing sounds interesting but as you said sockmonster, it really is just a quick fix which is great if you have an upcomming deadline like you but I'm not sure if I'd be able to just have juice! Let me know how you find it though. i know some people swear by it so it must work.

Hope everyone is feeling motivated and had a good day! Weigh day tomorrow. Good luck ladies!!!!

OP posts:
nannyogg · 15/04/2009 20:56

I've just been to a keep fit class! It was brilliant. I was really sweating by the end of it. I'm going to go every week, every Wednesday night (should be a nice little boost just before weigh day! )

Excellent work on resisting temptation savage..I wish I could have done the same, I've just had a chunk tiny piece of easter egg (reckon I've earned it though tonight!)

alice - how long did you do slimfast for and how well did it work? IE how much did you lose and did you keep it off? I don't really want to do anything too diet/faddy like, but I've been yo-yo-ing up and down the same few pounds for months now. I lost 2 and half stone last year, why couldn't I just keep the momentum going?

Oh well, good luck for tomorrow everyone!

alicecrail · 16/04/2009 06:50

Nanny I only tried it for a week and lost about 5lbs but (and it is a big but) i was 19, no children and had a really unhealthy lifestyle and was starting to worry about the little bit of weight i had put on. My weight does yoyo terribly. I used to pig out for weeks and then have a week of just hardly eating (because i wasn't hungry) and lose up to 7lbs. I can't and don't want to do that anymore. I'm sure slimfast does work well if your body agrees with it.

It's a bit early to face weighing myself, will be back later

savageisfat · 16/04/2009 07:38

Arrrgh I feel quite nervous about weigh day now, isn't that ridicullous??! lol. I really should buy some scales but at least the walk to Boots in town burns some fat lol! Hope it goes well for everyone!

I've often thought about slim fast but I really don't think I could just drink a milkshake for 2 meals a day. I think I'd be craving even more!

Anyway, time to get breakfast. Having a huge bowl of shreddies (I'm starving!!!)

Nannyogg, you said you lost over 2 stone last year, did you manage to keep the weight off? Just worrying a bit cos I tend to yyo too and I'd hate to lose it all and then be right back to where I started in a year's time! If so how did you manage to lose it?

OP posts:
nannyogg · 16/04/2009 07:52

I've put about 5lb back on since losing my weight last year. Not bad I know, but I still need to lose about 2 stone I reckon.

I did it by using WLR and just walking more. Calorie counting helped me become more aware of food, portion sizes, calorific content, what types of food to eat etc.

I've tried going back to calorie counting but really can't face it again. It's so boring. Maybe that's what I need though, maybe I should just suck it up and do it.

will weigh myself in a minute when DD gets off the wii! Good luck everyone!

alicecrail · 16/04/2009 08:30

I have just weighed myself. I am 10st5lb about average for me. Do you think it's a reasonable goal to lose 5lbs in 6weeks? I will try very hard but don't want to push myself as my weight goes up for no reason sometimes! I think that is achievable as it allows for blips Good luck everyone

nannyogg · 16/04/2009 08:43

Damn damn damn! Weighed myself and I haven't lost anything. God I'm sick of this.

What can I doooo?

(alice - 5lbin 6 weeks is definitely do-able)

Oh goodness. Back up to 12st 7lb. Here comes the excuses (haha) It is half term - sleep and eat patterns all over the place - that time of month etc etc.

I lost 2 stone about 18 months ago without any sense of deprivation or any excercise simply by having a regular eating/sleeping pattern while on a secondment at work.

Does anyone else notice that the more sleep deprived you are, the more you tend to want to eat?

My partner is following the slim-fast diet and has lost about 1st 7lb so far in 5 weeks. Oh how he nags me when he sees me eating non-lettuce leaf solids

Am off to a City farm with daughter. Back home to a massive spring clean and an early night. Will book a gym session for tomorrow.

Enjoy your birthday meal on Friday, Plusone..

Hope you all had a good Easter.

Hi everyone

Another gain here - 2lbs. My loss last week was due to illness. Soon as I started feeling better I just couldn't help snaffling chocolate eggs and wine. Ho hum! I'm sure one day I'll feel motivated!
