Having always been chunky since I was about 17, now I am really at breaking point. I have started so many healthy eating plans in the past and never get beyond the first week until now.

I don't really want to do a 'diet' as such, just cut down on the calories and excercise sensibly. I don't think I could or (want to) cut any food groups out so so far I have been just making healthier choices. More fruit and veg, not snacking on biscuits/ crisps etc. For quick and easy meals, I have been using the weight watchers prepared meals which are suprisingly tastey.

I am 5ft 8 and weighed 13stone 13lbs two weeks ago. Meaning I am nearly obese according to the body mass index. For the past 2 weeks I have been watching what I eat and going swimming twice a week. I now weigh 13stone 7lbs which I am pleased the healthy eating/ fitness plan seems to be working although I am still suffering from cravings and need motivation from you nice mnetters!

My waist is around a size 12 which is fine by me but all my fat seems to collect on my thighs and bum, meaning I have to buy size 18 jeans just to fit over my legs and then they just gape and look horrid around my waist. Nothing fits comfortably on my bottom half, I am so out of proportion.

I have 20 month old ds who keeps me busy but I do feel that having eaten all his left overs and snacking everytime he does for the past 20 months has not been kind to my wobbly bits!!

So that's the story so far.... anyone want o join in or share their stories??

You enjoy yourself girl!!!!!!!

savageisfat · 28/03/2009 08:52

Enojy it Nannyogg! I had a good binge the week before I started. I think it's only right!

I've been really good since my meal out on Wednesday but I feel just as fat! It's the worst part about getting started... with all the food cravings but not actually seeing the benefit. I just want to look in the mirror and see a change but I can't. (I know it's early days but I am impatient an need something to spur me on a bit.. especially at weekends!) I find it very hard on weekends.

I was good last night though. DH had a pizza but I was very good and made me and ds some vegatable rissotto.. although ds also managed to eat a slice of dh's pizza but I was able to restrain myself!!!

Had a slice of wholemeal toast and poached egg this morning so not too bad and I really enjoyed it.

Also had a cup of tea with 3 sugars though I rarely have tea but I really fancied one and I can't stand itwithout sugar.

Good luck for the weekend...except for those of you who are having a final blow out... !!!!

oh thank god nannyogg I have had a terrible weekend, chinese, macdonalds and pizza
Well done savage for resisting, I need some of your willpower

A new start today then!! My two resolutions for next week are to drink much more water, esp when I think I'm hungry, and to do sit ups every day (I'm 6 months post baby #2)

thesockmonsterofdoom · 29/03/2009 09:28

+1more, imnstead of doing situps you could try doing something like plank, much more effective and much less time.
I wasnt too bad yesterday and am back on resolve today.
I just cant be good at the weekend, i figure iof I am really good all week then it should be OK.

savageisfat · 29/03/2009 09:35

well so much for my will power! I was so goodyesterday but I woke up starving this morning. I've already eaten a bowl of Shreddies, 4 slices cheese on toast (full fat cheese aswell ). I'm feeling bad now but I felt starving!!!!

Ahh, not sure I'll ever get my weight off at this rate!

Ooooh I fancy pizza for dinner now too, damn it!

Confession time for me too. Went to a posh lunch in London yesterday - confit of duck followed by crème brûlée! On the up side, I was so stuffed that I hardly ate anything in the evening. Did half an hour on the exercise bike this morning, and am about to feel very virtuous this evening - dh is making miso soup with pak choi and noodles. I'll just have to try to resist following it with any of the fairy cakes I helped dd to make...

MaggsS · 30/03/2009 06:53

Hi everyone,

Have been poorly all weekend so have just eaten what I fancied when I fancied it.

Still have a sore throat but will try to get back on track today

AMumInScotland · 30/03/2009 11:47

And I'm another one here reporting a bad weekend from the weight-loss point of view TBH the last 2 weeks have been pretty bad, with my weight remaining static. Though I feel that I must have slightly improved my overall eating habits, since it hasn't actually gone up! But work and home have both been pretty hectic so I've lost focus, but I'm determined not to keep letting it slip, so hopefully I'll have some improvement to show by weigh-in day.

savageisfat · 30/03/2009 12:01

Very bad weekend for me, not only did I eat the 4 slices of full fat cheese on toast but then I proceeded to eat my way thru an entire pot of pasta sald with cheese and mayo with salad for lunch, then nearly a full (small!!) dominos pizza for tea. . I am back on track today tho but just feel like I've let myself down so much. I almost feel like I'm starting from scratch again and it'll talke me all week trying to just keep the weight off just from the weekend. I am not predicting a good result on weigh in day! Ahhh... anyway, time to dust myself off and carry on, mustn't dwell on it!!! Seems many of us fell off the wagon over the weekend so I am in good company!

Hello can i join in please?!

I am 5'8 and weigh roughly 11 and a half stone (don't have scales at home, have to weigh myself at friends houses)i had a DD 6months ago and am struggling to lose the weight.

My legs and bum are fine really, all my weight goes onto my stomach, am size 12, 14 or 16 depending on which shop i go to

I would really like to get down to 9 stone, am never going to have a bikini body thanks to all my stretchmarks, but would like to feel more confident in my nice summery vest-tops

thesockmonsterofdoom · 30/03/2009 12:20

Oh no, playgroup easter party, had buns o9n track from now. going to cook some rice for my lunch, i did so much work in the garden yesterday that I must have burnt some of the weekend off.

nannyogg · 30/03/2009 12:21

gawd we're all really rubbish at this arent we?

I'm kind of back on track again today. I've had:

bowl of fruitful and cup of tea for breakfast.

Wasn't able to make a proper lunch so threw a few bits in my lunchag:
packet of monster munch
a pear
a banana
a choc mint biscuity thing

I'm about to have a big glass of water to wash all that down. Not sure what I'm doing for tea tonight but I'll be good. Going on the wii fit when I get home from work.

Welcome spinynorman

AMumInScotland · 30/03/2009 12:21

Hello and welcome SpinyNorman! I'm sure there's always room for one more . To summarise so far, we're all trying to shift a bit of weight and keep it off, by trying to eat more healthily, exercise a bit more, and avoid our worst temptations as often as possible. But we've all (or most anyway) had the kind of weekend which doesn't help us in the right direction!

I think the important thing for all of us is to not let a bad day or two, or more, make us think it's a lost cause - there'll be slips on the way, but I'm sure we can all keep heading the right direction overall.

AMumInScotland · 30/03/2009 12:28

I had my usual breakfast - fruit juice and cereal - which I've been doing for a very long time. But I've been reducing the amount of cereal from "as much as I can heap into the bowl, be careful while pouring the milk" down to "a smallish heap inside the bowl" which is still probably more than the "portion size" on the label, but I'm working on it.

Then lunch was a bowl of fruit salad and a coffee.

Dinner will probably be pizza, but I'm learning to stop when I've had enough rather than clear my plate (apart from last night when I had a naan bread with my curry and wiped every last trace of sauce off the plate. Yum.)

And I will try, really, honest, to either have a go on the Wii Fit or else my exercise DVD this evening. There, I've put it in writing, you can ask tomorrow if I managed it

SpinyNorman · 30/03/2009 14:13

So far i've had a large bowl of cornflakes and have done 15 mins on my wii-fit so am doing ok so far. The test will come later when i usually beg ask DP to go to the chip shop

thesockmonsterofdoom · 30/03/2009 14:17

A mum, i will also try to get on the wii later, i have worked out that I can dop free step while watching the soaps so not wasting ym evening. I had a bowl of rice for lunch which was lovely although i am not looking forward to weighing myself on the wii later.

MrsMattie · 30/03/2009 14:19

Hi everyone. Just wanted to pass on a piece of advice that has really, really helped me (have lost 2 stone since January, aiming for another 7 lbs by June, and ideally another 7 lbs after that).

It's what you do most of the time, not all of the time, that determines your weight.

So, if you gorge on a Chinese takeaway and chocolate ice cream on a Saturday and slob around on Sunday, but eat a healthy, low fat diet and exercise daily Mon-Fri, you will lose weight.

It's become my mantra, as it means you can pick yourself up and dust yourself off when you have a 'bad day' and not do what I always used to do which is have a couple of days of eating loads/being lazy and think 'Oh well, I've blown my diet now, never mind...' and just give up.

I'd also really advise walking a lot more. Getting your activity levels up helps you feel more energetic and I'm sure it has an effect on your metabolism eventually.

Good luck!

PurlyQueen · 30/03/2009 15:01

I'll join in too! I got down to a size 14/16 before I had my son. This may seem huge to others, but it was a huge achievement for me as I have polycystic ovaries, which makes it hard to shift excess weight.
I'm now a size 18/20 and I hate it.

savageisfat · 31/03/2009 08:41

Excellent advice from mrs mattie, thank you! I think that's the key thing to remember. I have been slobbing out over the weekend and I do feel as if there's no point to carrying on now bt I know that's been my down fall in the past. I really have to do it this time, just stay focused everyone and forget all the slip ups! Eamonn Holmes said something on the 'feel good factor' programme which I find jelps me. He said something along the lines of 'slip ups are only failure if you allow them to become permenant'. In other words, there will be bad days but it doesn't mean you've failed and should give up.

Welcome to the new arrivals purlyqueen and spinynorman.

Today I have had a bowl of cereal with skimmed milk. Probably more cereal than the box reccommends as a portion size but I always think if I use skimmed milk instead of semi skimmed then it's OK! I'd rather eat a decent breakfast and feel satisfied than be starving by 10am and snacking on junk!

How's everyone else doing today?

OP posts:
fraggletits · 31/03/2009 09:32

Hi everyone - well, like everyone else my weekend was more about weightgain than loss.

Second what MrsMattie says though - I remember from the olden days of dieting that if you weigh yourself late in the week you can pretty much eat what you want at the weekend.

Let's see what thursdays like and maybe we can switch to Friday next week

So far today i've had my usual slice of wholemeal toast with cottage cheese and coffee with skimmed milk...yum

plusonemore · 31/03/2009 09:46

not good so far...cheerios with milk, but then...there were some belgian waffles i had bought for ds1, he didnt like them, they have been staring at me. So I ate them. I figured now they are gone that is better. Should have put them in the bin though, or at least some of them...there were 4

wont give up on today though, plan to have healthy rolls and fruit for lunch and lots of veggies with something for tea. Also will do dance dvd later

Goldberry · 31/03/2009 09:59

Quite a few people have mentioned exercise dvds. I've got an ancient Tae Bo video and 'Latina tone' by Lilia from Strictly Come Dancing (have never watched 'strictly', but the exercise dvd is pretty good). I was thinking of getting a couple more.Anyone got any recommendations?

plusonemore · 31/03/2009 10:09

i've got the one thats done by the woman who did the 'call on me' video. Its ok, all the girls on it were also in the video so you can imagine its a bit annoying! Nearly bought one os the strictly ones, wish i had now...

AMumInScotland · 31/03/2009 10:17

I've recently got Davina McCall "High Energy 5". I think she might get a bit irritating after a while, but it's split into 5 sections with different aims. I know I'm never even going to try something which is an hour long, so I'm better off with 20-30 minute ones which there is some chance of me doing.

I did one last night - well, I did 1/3 of it properly, 1/3 of it half-heartedly, and watched the other bits while my pulse went down to something nearer to normal! So, it's a bit tough for me at the moment, but that's ok because it certainly had my pulse up for 30 minutes and I can feel it in the muscles this morning.

savageisfat · 31/03/2009 11:51

I have the Natalie Cassidy one (sonia from eastenders) I was really hopeful that if she could do it than I was bound to be able to keep up with her....... can I buggery! I think my main problem is that I have zero coordination so by the time I've mastered what she's doing with her body and how to make mine do it... she's moved on to the next funky move , grrrrr! I have decided just to move more, tone up my legs with stretches, walking etc and strick with the swimming!

Have been good today but there's plenty of time for it all to go tits up! I'm not hungry at the mo so have just been trying to drink plenty of water and not sure what I'll have for lunch yet. Probably just a weight watchers meal but hey are yummy so I don't mind too much!
