Having always been chunky since I was about 17, now I am really at breaking point. I have started so many healthy eating plans in the past and never get beyond the first week until now.

I don't really want to do a 'diet' as such, just cut down on the calories and excercise sensibly. I don't think I could or (want to) cut any food groups out so so far I have been just making healthier choices. More fruit and veg, not snacking on biscuits/ crisps etc. For quick and easy meals, I have been using the weight watchers prepared meals which are suprisingly tastey.

I am 5ft 8 and weighed 13stone 13lbs two weeks ago. Meaning I am nearly obese according to the body mass index. For the past 2 weeks I have been watching what I eat and going swimming twice a week. I now weigh 13stone 7lbs which I am pleased the healthy eating/ fitness plan seems to be working although I am still suffering from cravings and need motivation from you nice mnetters!

My waist is around a size 12 which is fine by me but all my fat seems to collect on my thighs and bum, meaning I have to buy size 18 jeans just to fit over my legs and then they just gape and look horrid around my waist. Nothing fits comfortably on my bottom half, I am so out of proportion.

I have 20 month old ds who keeps me busy but I do feel that having eaten all his left overs and snacking everytime he does for the past 20 months has not been kind to my wobbly bits!!

So that's the story so far.... anyone want o join in or share their stories??

Alice, if you can manage to eat only one square and put the rest of the chocolate away each time, you have more self control than I do!

I tend to avoid chocolate as the more I have the more I crave it. Haven't had any for a good few days now and don't miss it anymore.

Sockmonster - losing 4 stone is so impressive, you are so right in that the mindset is vitally important to success. If you are in the zone, then not eating too much can seem really simple.

Weigh day tomorrow...have been calorie counting like mad the last few days, and have kept to my self-imposed allowance of around 1600 cals. Plus not only did I go running today, but this afternoon I cycled 8 miles with a 2 stone toddler sitting behind me all the way. Am starving now but the thought of the scales tomorrow morning is keeping me out of the kitchen so far

Morning all!

Well, I've managed to lose 1lb. I'm pleased but also a bit as I thought I'd lose more. Never mind, at least it's a loss. I've been on the wii fit everyday so I know that my BMI is creeping downwards, even if I'm not losing lots of Lbs. I've been counting calories but think I set my limit too low and set myself up to fail. I was counting about 1200, I've changed it to 1500 for next week.

I agree so much about the mindset thing sockmonster, I think I'm only just really getting back into that feeling. I think I need to swap the feeling of food making me happy to the feeling of being healthy making me happy. IYKWIM. That prob doesnt make sense

alice - re the chocolate, are you going to weigh yourself first? If so then I'd say go for it. With all the riding you've been doing I bet you'll have a positive result today. And a square of chocolate after some activity is very different from sitting in front of the telly scoffing an easter egg (not that I've done that...)

plusone, what did you decide to do in the end?

onlyaphase, good luck for today, sounds like you've been doing the right stuff. Good luck savage and everyone else too

so...am the same but could be worse i would have put on Does anyone else think it sometimes takes a couple of weeks to show? Cos this is the first week I have been really good, maybe I will see something next week? Last night I was OK ish...didnt have any tea so the nibbles were my tea. Had hardly any crisps, plenty of the cucumber, a couple small pieces of quiche, a couple of the mackeral/lettuce boats I had made and a couple of tomato/feta things. Oh and a couple of cocktail sausages! So not too bad? (and a few glasses of vino too of course)

Well done nanny and alice, I reckon all losses or maintains are good

Lost another 4lbs, not sure how cos I've eaten well more than my 1400 calorie allowance this past couple of days but I have started using 5kg weights this week to tone up my arms and also doing sit ups cos I heard the more muscle tone you have the more calories you burn. Something to do with muscle burning more energy than fat so maybe that's helped a bit.

I'm really happy cos it's the lowest weight Ive been for about 5 years. At my booking in appointment when pg with ds I weighed 13 stone so this is the first time I've been under 13 stone for years!

Well done everyone for carrying on, we are all doing well for sticking around!

OP posts:
plusonemore · 23/04/2009 11:43

that is fantastic savage- brilliant to be under 13, i reckon that will give you more motivation too. I have did a pilates dvd yesterday (well until i had to deal with ds2 anyway) and I can feel it in my tummy and legs today (didnt get around to the arms)Hope my loss starts to pick up like yours- well done you!

savageisfat · 23/04/2009 11:53

thank you plusone! Everyone is doing so well with all these excercise dvds! I still haven't bothered trying my natalie cassidy one again as I saw she'd got fat again so didn't see the point in doing something that even she couldn't maintain!!!

I'm amazed at how my weight loss has picked up speed though, for the first 2 or 3 weeks on here I think I was lucky if I lost 1 pound a week, no doubt it will slow down again soon though and I don't want to lose it too quickly anyway. I think it's taught me that I can still have naughty things like pizza at the weekend every so often and still lose weight so there's no need to deprive ourselves of everything we love, very important for us all to remember cos I did beat myself up about eating it on Sunday!

OP posts:
alicecrail · 23/04/2009 12:44

Well done everyone
I have just got back from a hospital appointment and they weighed me, looks like my scales are buggered after all. At the hospital i was 10st 13lbs!!!! WTF!!! Looks like i too will have to count calories as i now have 13lbs to lose. This now puts my bmi at 27 which i really am unhappy about as it does mean i am not as healthy as i thought. Maybe this is the serious kick up the bum that needed

Well, I've lost 3 lb this week, so all the cycling and running has paid off! Am very envious of Savage and NannyOgg for being under 13 stone.....am trying to remember the last time I was there! Well done you two, you are spurring me on.

Alice if I get weighed somewhere other than my bathroom, I always gain about 7lb too - i think it is a comblination of being full of breakfast/lunch and wearing clothes and shoes too so please don't panic just yet.

Right, am off to take DD swimming now.

nannyogg · 23/04/2009 17:56

savage, you've overtaken me, this could turn into a race to the finish....

Seriously, well done, what a fantastic achievement. I am pleased to be back down under 13st, but I've been bobbing around this weight for ages now - I was 15st 2 when I started last year and got down to 12st 9lb. I won't feel I've achieved much until I get back under that really.

Well done only and plusone - I agree, whether you lose or maintain, it's still a positive result!

alice - this might make you feel a bit better

Goldberry · 23/04/2009 19:22

Well done everyone. Haven't done my weigh-in yet, but even if I haven't lost any more, I'm still pleased with myself this week as I've entered myself for a 5k 'Race for Life' and have just been out for a run to get in training.

Goldberry · 23/04/2009 19:29

Well, I'm back down to 11st 13, so have made up for my blip over the Easter holidays.

I've stayed the same too. How annoying. I've got a wedding to go to in June though and I am determined to shift at least a stone by then. It's exactly 8 weeks away so I am sure I can do 2lbs a week if I'm good.

alicecrail · 24/04/2009 07:57

Thank you onlyaphase and nannyogg that link made me feel a bit better. I do feel fatter than i would like but after riding for a couple of days things do feel firmer. But i think i will stick to my (possibly wrong) scales!

savageisfat · 24/04/2009 09:34

Hiya everyone, some fantastic results from yesterday's weigh in! Nannyogg, I am sure by next week you'll have overtaken me again lol! It's very hit and miss my weight loss, sometimes I think I've been really good but don't lose much at all, other weeks I eat pizza and feel really guilty, then lose 4lbs, there seems no rhyme or reason to it really!

Anyway, not eating much at the moment as I have an abcess on my spine (sounds gross doesn't it!!??). I had it when I was heavily pg with ds and it appears that nearly 2 years later it has returned . I'm on strong anti biotics which are making me feel a bit sick and I have to take them on an empty stomach so I am struggling to fit food in!

Hope everyone else is OK and continuing with the keeping fit/ healthy eating.

OP posts:
alicecrail · 27/04/2009 10:15

I hope everyone has had a "good" weekend . Mine wasn't too bad and i did drink lots of water yesterday which is one of my aims (was up and down to the loo all night though ) I am already looking forward to my lunch though and i haven't done anything this morning Maybe a bit of housework will take my mind off it for a while (maybe )

thesockmonsterofdoom · 27/04/2009 17:37

Sorry for not weighing in last week, had a crap week and have comfort eaten and drunk far too much at the weekend, hoping to get back on track tommorow, dh has lost his job, so i wont be eating loads of crap as he will be here. Also should have a bit more time to do some excercise.
Well done on the losses everyone.

savageisfat · 27/04/2009 18:11

Oh sock, I'm sorry you've had a crappy time lately. It must be very worrying for you both. Hope something comes along soon for your dh.

Everything OK here, back still painful and not eating much so hopefully I'll see some loss even though I'm not really having to try.

alice, did the housework distraction work???!

OP posts:
thesockmonsterofdoom · 27/04/2009 18:14

hoping the stress may have knocked a few pound off, if not being unable to afford food should help

nannyogg · 28/04/2009 20:13

sock I've noticed some of your other threads. Sorry it's been so crap, hoping something turns up soon for dh and for you..xx

It's gone a bit quiet round here. how's everyone doing?

I was extremely naughty on Saturday night, girls night in - the crisps, wine and chocolate flowed I can tell you. I've been good since but it's AF time now so that'll probably bump up my weight a bit this week.

Oh well, keep fit tomorrow night!

alicecrail · 29/04/2009 06:57

for you sockmonster, i hope everything turns out ok.

I am having a crap week regarding food and exercise, but have a new goal so hopefully it will help a bit. My DH's best friends have asked me to be godmother to their youngest daughter and the christening is in the middle of june and i want to feel nice not wobbly.
Also, do you mind if i write down what i eat for a couple of days and hopefully shock myself out of it? It's the couple of crisps while i cook dinner and the piece of toast when i get in from the horses that i need to cut out

plusonemore · 29/04/2009 10:00

hi all, hope things are a bit better for you now sock. I'm finding it harder to resist stuff this week, think its cos i was so good last week and lost nothing. I keep forgetting to drink water too

plusonemore · 29/04/2009 20:03

ok, really bad day. Am going to list it all to really me into not doing it again

I ahve eaten LOADS
1 bowl special K
3 crusty rolls (white) with butter
a WHOLE TUB of humous
several bread sticks
half tub covent gardne soup
many many mikado sticks (lovely thin biscuity choc things)
grapes and couple strawberries

I am having a healthy tea, but I cant quite believe I am going to eat it after all that! Just been sooooo hungry. WHat I should have done is drink lots of water instead as it prob wasnt hunger but thirst. Thats it, my resolve is set, I will drink water at all signs of hunger from now on. Promise.

not jumping up and down too much at 1 lb loss. So annoying when I was so good last week and lost nothing. Just want to get under 14!

alicecrail · 30/04/2009 07:51

Oh bugger! I forgot it is weigh in! Will have to get undressed again Clothes weigh A LOT don't you know!

Congratulations on 1 lb loss plusonemore

I didn't do too bad yesterday. I ate:
2 pieces of toast and butter and cup of tea for breakfast.
Tuna mayo sandwich with a small handful of crisps for lunch, and glass of squash
Chicken stirfry for dinner but 2 (small) glasses of wine

Was very shocked that blackcurrant high juice has 131cals in a serving!! Thats more than coke!
