I started [http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/big_slim_whatever_weight_loss_club/673982-so-3-double-G-amp-Ts-and-a-bo x-of this thread]] after Christmas, but like many others I've slipped back into my old ways. Half term was particularly bad and need to kick-start healthy eating/weight loss. Anyone from that thread or any new people care to join me?

Lilolil, so nice to see you. I'm glad you popped in to say hi. Well done on your weight loss. You must be so chuffed! I'm not doing well at all. No matter how hard I try I can't shift this fat. Went shopping today and I still have the same problem with trousers not fitting. I'm sure it's because my tummy is so huge in comparison to the rest of me . Must keep trying though.

I don't see why you can't you keep your Mn name? Don't be ousted. Let the other lilo change. It wouldn't do you any harm to post a thread on this though if you wanted.

Anyway, I hope things are getting better for you. We'll be here when you get back

upagumtree · 29/03/2009 23:58

oh just x posted with wabbit. I didn't realise the other had been here longer so...I take back everything I said

allovertheplace · 30/03/2009 08:09

Morning all - is it Monday already!??

Congrats on your weight loss Lilolil - nice one and thanks for popping in. I'm not sure about the name change and whether you have to do it. However, perhaps you may feel like it's time for a change in the spirit of the New You!?

Had bit of a hectic weekend as was on my own with DD so not a lot of MN time. Managed to stay on the straight and narrow pretty much considering it was the weekend and I'm normally tempted to relax things. Also managed to squeeze in half an hour of Wii fit and unlocked the snowboarding game. Also tried the muscle exercises for the first time so abs feel a bit tight, (only did it the once as well). Did a WW recipe for chicken stroganoff yesterday that I found somewhere on the net and that was nice. All plates cleared, even DDs.

Got a day off work so off out later with DH to do a bit of shopping. Doesn't feel like I've exactly dropped a dress size yet but do feel a little more confident. Will try on different styles of tops since we have a child-free shopping opportunity, as opposed to the usual baggy jobs to see how it's all looking.

Another week of healthy eating beckons then - will try to avoid eating lunch out but if all else fails will head for Subway (low fat ham 6") or McDonalds, (salads)for a 5 pointer.

upagumtree · 30/03/2009 10:08

Allovertheplace Can you post your beef stroganoff recipe later on please if you have the time. I'd love to try it . I hope you have a lovely day shopping with hubbie. You never know, you may have dropped a dress size! I hope you buy lots of lovely nice things.

Have tried to be good over the weekend. On the plus side I haven't had any wine for 4 days!!! or any crisps or chocolate. On the negative side however I didn't eat very healthy meals on saturday or sunday. In fact on Saturday I definately over ate. So not very good at all. Like I had mentioned yeasterday, I was shopping yesterday and tried on some trousers. I looked dreadful in them and it took all my effort to remain composed instead of bursting into tears.

However we did buy a wii for ds2's birthday next month. I'm under strict instructions to leave it well alone until his birthday. But that's 3 weeks away and i'm desperate to use it!!!! Especially since we bought the wii fit too.

Have put roast beef on for dinner tonight. Dreaded Mil visiting this evening and staying overnight which is enough to try the patience of a saint. So wish me luck girls...I will need it

lilolilmanchester · 30/03/2009 10:59

no, the other lilolil is new, but rather than cause any fuss will comeback under a new name. If I come back, am beginning to realise just how much time I spent on MN - an hour here and there adds up over the week!

OP posts:
upagumtree · 30/03/2009 11:41

Lilo If you name change will you let us know?
Why are so many of the long termers leaving lilo do you know? Is there something going on that us newbies don't know about?

wabbit · 30/03/2009 12:47

awww lilo, can't you just limit your MNing to five min dropin's? would be sad if we lost another member of the old guard - I've been here 4 years, sometimes I don't MN for weeks, and only really post on this thread at the moment as I need the support and love the girls here.

let us know if you change your name... keep up the weightloss.

Upagumtree - well done on the wine an chocolate and crisps My wobbly bits still seem to wobble just as much and I've noticed that my fat % does not seem to be less - I'm hoping as I get fitter and my skin starts to shrink to size a little things will get tighter.

my hips on the other hand are looking better and the muffin top effect is definitely less in my jeans

Allovertheplace - at child free shopping! DP let me do this on my birthday and I found Warehouse have some lovely spring weight dresses in at the moment... so promptly bought two!
Enjoy your afternoon with Mrallovertheplace

wabbit · 30/03/2009 12:51

Oh, lilo, meant only change your name IF this lilolily's got a problem with names being similar and if she's been here longer than you... as she hasn't... keep your name and ask her to change.

Me and littlelapin used to have lots of problems with people mistaking us for eachother... she's no longer here now but we decided to keep our names the same.

Hi All

Gumtree - As you know, I live away from our Scottish families so when my in-laws come I get them for a whole week! . Actually, they're ok but having any house guests for a week can really drive you to drink! Hope that makes you feel better

Now then, I actually did Chicken Stroganoff and it seemed to be an american recipe.

2 separate tsps of oil, (I used the lo fat spray stuff instead)
10 oz cubed chicken
2 cups mushrooms
1 cup onion
1 cup low sodium chicken broth (eh?) (I used one cup of chicken stock made from a cube)
2 tsps flour
3 tbsps fat free sour cream (I could only get half fat soured cream so added a point to each serving)
1 tsp red wine vinegar, (didn't have any so used red wine.... any excuse)
Quarter a tsp of pepper and a tsp of dijon mustard

Basically, just fry off the chicken and leave it to the side, fry off the mushrooms and onions and add the chicken back in. Mix the flour into the chicken stock, strain and add to the pot with the pepper and simmer for a while. Then, about five minutes before you want to serve, stir in the sour cream and mustard. et voila. The recipe says it feeds four, (if you're a sparrow methinks, we split it 3 ways) and that total points were 10, so I called it 13 due to it not being fat free sour cream.

Wabbit: at your dress purchases! I got a couple of tops today. Just slightly smock like and not complete tents. Tell you what though, looking in the changing room mirror is a sobering experience and just what one needs to spur one on in the dieting game!

Lunch was a McDonalds salad.

I've only got 1.5 points left after my tea, (a large yorkshire pudding with beef and veg in it - 7 points). It was lovely but totally not the right thing to eat as it didn't fill me up. I so need to get better organised and cook more from scratch.

Lilolil - Don't go..........

upagumtree · 31/03/2009 00:26

Oh thankyou allover for the recipe. I'll be sure to report back once i've tried it. Love stroganoff but avoiding it at the moment due to obvious reasons. So i'm really liking the half fat cream idea! Will definately be trying this one.

Wabbit ~ We love you too!

This evening I decided to attend a meeting of local residents, we were discussing factor fees etc. I decided I wanted to dress smartly for the occassion thus swaping my jeans for a pair of dressy trousers. I tried on a pair of back trousers that I haven't been able to get into for about 6 months. They fitted!!! Yipeeee!

I was soooo chuffed and it really made my day. I went downstairs, finished making dinner. Ate dinner. Within 15 minutes of eating roast beef and gravy with a small jacket potato, broccoli and cauliflour, my stomach quite literally doubled in size. My trousers that I was so delighted to fit into were now far too tight, my stomach looked like a football of pregnant proportions. I could have cried.

Has anyone experienced this or know what has caused it? It isn't my time of the month, so I can't blame it on that and no...am definately not pg. I didn't over eat nor did I have too much veg {ruling out wind then}

wabbit · 31/03/2009 10:58

Gumtree - this sounds like an intolerance reaction, though it doesn't sound as though you ate anything that normally causes this (wheat/dairy products)

Perhaps you should try a simple intolerance trial, take one food from your dinner out of your diet for a week and then reintroduce it over next few days... working your way through each food.

It may be irritable bowel syndrome too but careful eating usually limits the effect of this.

I've only ever experienced this when i was ill with anorexia in my early 20's - I had restricted my diet so severely that I couldn't eat starchy foods at all without this horrible reaction. (come to think of it, couldn't really eat anything without it happening!) Had to stay off wheat for a couple of years as my body healed itself.

Has your stomach returned to normal now? (do the trousers fit again?

madwomanintheattic · 31/03/2009 11:41

i lost a pound, i lost a pound, i lost a pound

it's only a pound, but it's an official start

hmm on the trousers gumtree, that happens here too...

i've fixed my broken dvd player, too, so back on davina as well as normal dogwalking. got the next month off uni, so have cancelled the dogwalker for the next month too, so i'll be doing the lot.

i think i need a lie down.

allovertheplace · 31/03/2009 11:42

Hi All

Gumtree - I would second what Wabbit said from what I've read about bloating etc. Wabbit's elimination plan sounds a good way to go. Hope you're feeling more comfortable now.

Well ladies, I weighed myself and I've lost 1 lb so have now broken the 10 stone mark and I'm 9st 13 lbs. Woo hoo! I'm so chuffed. I do need to give my diet further attention though as I'm sure I'm still eating 'unhealthy' foods but in smaller amounts to stay within my points quota. I also need to include more fibre and fruit and veg so that starts today.

I am also going back to Scotland at the weekend for a silver wedding so I know I'll be off the diet for a couple of days but will still try not to have my head in a constant swivel looking for treats to eat while I'm off the wagon! I will try to think about my choices when faced with the usual chippy tea at the in-laws and the buffet at the Do itself, in a damage-limitation vibe.

Will speak to you all again before then though.

Have a healthy day!

wabbit · 31/03/2009 13:46

Oooh excellent girls

will do stats later... mad mad rush here to get to nieces birthay do!

upagumtree · 31/03/2009 16:18

An intolerance is what i've been worried about. But it sounds like such hard work eliminating things. I dont normally have set meal plans so dont eat the same veg/food every week. But coming to think of it I haven't had cauliflour for ages. Has anyone ever had a reaction to cauliflour before? . Maybe it'll be worthwhile having it again next week and gauge any reaction. I haven't tried the trousers on again so not sure if the bloating remains, but I thought I was looking pretty good in my jeans today. But sometines I think that and then the next day i'm back to feeling like a fat frump!

Oh Wabbit, Anorexia? You poor thing. I'm glad you have recovered from that. such a terrible illness.

Well done to Madwoman and Allover on your weightlosses. Feel so envious that i'm the only one on this thread who hasn't lost any weight!!!

Allover, I hope you have a great weekend. If there is any reason to break a diet it would be a family celebration back home in Scotland, would it not? Think you could certainly be forgiven!!! You don't have a spare hour when you come home do you? I'd love the chance to meet all the girls on this thread...and since you'll be passing my way?? Just a thought, no pressure !!

Wabbit hope you had a nice time at the birthdy party.

Speak to you all later

MABS · 31/03/2009 18:45

doing very badly, and am off to dubai tomorrow to look fat in a bikini...

loler · 31/03/2009 20:14

MABS - ah feel so sorry for you.

I've lost a whole 1/2 lb this week - big wow - I know it's better than putting on but still! Reading through everyone elses losses has spurred me on a bit but.....

DH has just come home with chinese and a bottle of wine after a big row last night about not talking and him never making tea. Think he's trying to keep me fat (never can win!)

evening all

Sympathies of the day must go to MABS who we'll all feel tragically sorry for as she suns herself in Dubai

upagumtree - feeling for your frustration, we'll try to keep you motivated

loler - 1/2lb is much better off than on!!! well done for keeping on track i'm waiting for the weeks where I'm doing my utmost and nothing happens on the scales - it's still early days for me yet - enjoy your wine after you chinese

I have to go for a bath now as still sweaty from jogging which seems to be going dreadfully now - I'm getting monster stitches and have to walk... maybe it's I'm trying to push myself a little more - can't wait to get past this point!!

right taking stinky self off for a wash!!

MABS · 01/04/2009 07:42

oh girls, am only away for just over a week, am worried that when i get back you will all have disappeared...you are losing so much weight between you all

upagumtree · 01/04/2009 10:43

Hope you have a great time Mabs. Bet you look great in your bikini

Loler ~ 1/2lb is great Well done! It's much better to lose weight very slowly. Less chance of putting it all back on again.

Had a vino lapse last night. A friend came round and of course opened the wine (as you do). However I diluted all of mine with soda water. Not sure if that atually makes any difference in the dieting stakes though. Oh and then of course put 3 bags of mini chedders in a bowl and I ate the whole lot

But will be good today. Have chicken in slow cooker atm for dinner tonight. Will have it with some veg but will avoid potatoes I think.

Speak to you all later x

allovertheplace · 01/04/2009 12:38

Belated congrats to Madwoman for your weight loss - I missed your post as we were positing within minutes of each other and well done Loler - it's half a pound you're not now carrying around with you!

Gumtree - would have loved to catch up with you this weekend but with two sets of eager families to squeeze into what is essentially two days worth of availability is going to be hard to achieve this time, especially when we're throwing an evening 'do' into the mix which removes valuable get-together time. (We face these pressures every time we come up - you just can't leave anyone out)! What I might be able to do one of the next times I'm up is take a set of parents out for a day's shopping and lunch, (which we sometimes do) and make East Kilbride the venue! BTW - mini cheddars - how moreish!? Yum! Pesky friends and all their "coming round" shenanigans ...... pesky wine......

I'm doing ok on the points front today, (had a tin of soup-for-one veg soup - 2 points plus two slices of WW bread, 1 point for lunch), but I'm feeling a bit under the weather - like I'm sickening for a cold but also with a bit of an upset tum, so don't really feel much like eating anyway. Hope it passes, I've got so much on over the next two or three days so don't have space or time for illness!

wabbit · 01/04/2009 13:01

Enjoy your week in the sun MABS

Gumtree!!! tut tut tut

I've just had cous cous and smoked salmon salad for lunch - I was starving as only had a banana for brekky and yesterday took points out for Birthday Cake so went to bed hungry!

better now

I'm off to take lovely volunteers to the site of the new Kindergarten sun shining and lovely here

Hope your unwell feeling disappears for you allovertheplace

have a lovely healthy day all

madhairday · 01/04/2009 15:30

How are you all getting on? Sorry for being awol yet again, not too well.
Am 10st5 so not going to make 10st for easter, but at least still going down not up! Would like to make 10st3 but does anyone find once it's the holidays the diet goes out the window a little? Ice cream with the dcs and all that?
Hope everyone is getting on ok, will try and catch up....
