New thread! Other one got a bit long!

OP posts:
Chloe55 · 13/05/2009 07:45

No, I am not MamaG

Ooh didn't realise tinned fruit in own juice was not free, have put dh on SW too and have been allowing him that.

I struggle on the pudding front too, I have to have something sweet and really feel like I 'miss out' if I don't. Yoghurt just doesn't cut it with me though so I try not to use many sins with my meals and save them for a couple of revels or pieces of chocolate.

Snorris · 13/05/2009 08:03

Apparently brown rice is not high enough in fibre to be classsed as a HE.
I'd also suggest doing it as EE. The way I understand it is you can have any food that is free on Red & Green but only 1 HEa and 1HEb. Syns are then counted at the lower value ie if something was 8 on Red but 4 on Green you would count it as 4 syns. The other way you could do it would be to have your curry etc on a green day so unlimited amounts of rice but have the meat as a HE . Hope that makes sense!!

ProfYaffle · 13/05/2009 08:15

If I have a curry I do it on a green day and count any meat as a he, infact am doing a chicken curry tomorrow night. More often I just use Quorn though. imho I don't think you need a lot of meat in a curry anyway.

I also made the same mistake with tinned fruit, I was having loads of tinned pineapple. Re the sweet things I'm having loads of raspberries with vanilla muller light with chocolate sprinkles atm.

Also, slightly random, I don't understand why porridge isn't free on a green day. I was appalled when I saw the portion size you're allowed.

So who's in the sparkly other place now then? Me, Snorris and MamaG have the same names, Connie is the scary biscuit, anyone else?

Chloe55 · 13/05/2009 08:16

Me! You forgot about me!

MamaG · 13/05/2009 09:28

Jenny is on too I think ProYaffle. Did you see that I'd called you hun btw?

ProfYaffle · 13/05/2009 09:30

Sorry! Have found your sparkly self now and said hello.

ProfYaffle · 13/05/2009 09:30

! I didn't, will go and have a look and try and find Jenny too.

Lilyloo · 13/05/2009 11:08

some of the tinned fruit is pretty high in syns tbh better with fresh.

have you checked out the recipes on the website some nice deserts on there.

Also the new mullers are nice with the chocolate sprinkles and the choc and orange one both free. The cherry one is 2 syns though!!

AuntieMaggie · 13/05/2009 12:29

I made the mistake with tinned fruit when i first started - got confused with another diet where you eat as much fruit as you like, including tinned but only in juice.

I'm on the sparkly other forum - or at least I joined but haven't done anything with it yet. Will try tonight.

I think I may have made a mistake with the oat so simple - is it only the plain one that is a HE? (Please say no as I've been having the others!)

ProfYaffle · 13/05/2009 12:47

Oh thanks for those syns Lily, I was wondering whether all the chocolate varieties were free or not.

Snorris · 13/05/2009 13:14

Just back from weigh and 2lbs off plus I got my Club 10 award . I haven't been perfect by any means so it makes me wonder how much I could have lost!

Chloe55 · 13/05/2009 13:19

Hopefully that will be me in the future

Snorris · 13/05/2009 14:15

Jennypenny, I've got a pudding recipe for you. Just made it for the first time and it's rather nice and it doesn't take long to make either . Coincidentally it's a Lesley Waters recipe I've adapted!!!

Raspberry iced mousse (serves 4)

2x 250g tubs quark
sweetener to taste (original recipe uses 50g icing sugar)
squeeze of lemon juice
250g frozen raspberries (can be straight from the freezer)

Tip the quark and sweetener into a large bowl, add lemon juice and beat until smooth & creamy. Gently stir in raspberries until they begin to break up and the mixture is streaked pink; taste and add more lemon juice, if liked. Spoon into glasses and serve (or scoff it all yourself ).

JennyPenny22 · 13/05/2009 14:25

Lilly loo - that Jelly pudding thing looks nice. Do you know if it will keep in the fridge? I am the only one that eats pudding here?

JennyPenny22 · 13/05/2009 14:40

ooohhhh Rasberry iced moose looks yum! Can I ask you the same question - can you make it in advance? I would love to try out these reciepes, but couldn't face making something from scratch every day for pudding I don't think. Every few days is fine though if maybe I could put in portions in fridge or freezer?

JennyPenny22 · 13/05/2009 14:42

And I don't know what Quark is .

And Yes, I am on the forum too - just as JennyPenny which is my name on any forum I use if I can help it.

Snorris · 13/05/2009 16:18

Quark is low-fat cream cheese and is a free food on SW. Sainsburys definitely sell it, I expect the other large supermarkets have it too . I expect it would keep ok in the fridge. I made 1/2 the amount and only ate 1/2 of that at lunchtime. The raspberries have started to defrost but it seems to be alright.

ProfYaffle · 13/05/2009 16:36

They def sell it in Morrisons, haven't seen it in our local Tesco though.

AuntieMaggie · 13/05/2009 19:15

Get my quark from asda - its usually in a tub near the cheese

AuntieMaggie · 13/05/2009 19:30

So I finally posted on the other forum - its very funky not sure if i can keep up!

Currently praying my veg lasagne is going to turn out ok - it was supposed to be spinach lasagne from one of the maags but i didn't get enough spinach so chucked some other veg in!

JennyPenny22 · 13/05/2009 19:57

AM - Spinach lasangne sounds lovely - Can you use frozen spinach do you know? I have some frozen in the freezer, not tried it yet though.

I bought some low fat mince today and trying to decide what to make with it (not for tonight). I don't know why I only bough one pack TBH as I usually use 2 so I can freeze a portion of whatever I make. I think I have some pork mince in the freezer - any ideas what I could do with the combo of beef and pork mince - other than meatballs?

I nearly bought some Lamb mince for the meatloaf as I want to give it a go - but I didn't have the ingredients list on me as I hadn't planned the tesco shop and as the mince had a very short life i thought I had better leave it and get them all in one go.

AuntieMaggie · 13/05/2009 20:20

I'm sure the frozen spinach would work. The lasagne is nice - though mine was a bit watery I suspect because of the veg i added. I am loving the whole quark thing - so nice when its crispy on top!

ConnieComplaint · 13/05/2009 20:35

Evening everyone

First of all, apologies to Chloe & Mama who I got mixed up...don't have an excuse, apart from stupidity... All the sparkles confuse me, but everyone is just SO nice!!

Had my WI tonight, had 2.5lb off so am v.pleased.

Going to try extra hard this week because if I have 1lb off next week that's my stone!!

Well done Snorris, I must work out what my 10% award will be, don't think it'll be for another while yet...

DH is working late tomorrow night so I think I will do myself SW chips, egg & beans.. I don't 'need' meat the way he does!!

I got the '100 delicious food optimising days green & original recipes' tonight, some of them look delicious!!!!!! Whenever I get a free while I will type some up for you all!

MamaG · 13/05/2009 22:44

Imade a veggie lasagne tonigh from the big list Pro linked to. It was v nice

Is Macaroni cheese free though as it used 2 tins! 1/2 a tin a portion as it made 4 portions?
