Jenny - imho (and this is just mho) that stuff about sweeteners blocking weight loss strikes me as a bad science type scare story, there is no energy in sweeteners so the body doesn't have to do anything with it. It just doesn't seem like a plausible theory.

But each to their own and if you prefer to use natural ingrediants then that's not an unreasonable stance. As you say the downside is all the syns! Maybe getting used to drinks without sugar is your best option??

MamaG · 11/05/2009 12:35

Lily thanks for that recipe, I'll try it this week

I made the potato curry from teh green recipe book last night and it was farking awful

I felt sick eating it! DH refused to touch it (and he eats anything) so we shared a takeaway pizza - am with myself today as I lost 5lbs (Sunday is weigh day) and dread to think what half a fat pizza has done! Ah well

AuntieMaggie · 11/05/2009 12:56

Any ideas for munchies that will stop me pigging out when I get stressed?

Someone has bought more sweets and biscuits into the office and I am trying to resist!

I need some sort of method for stopping me reaching for food when things get tense and I am under a lot of pressure.

MamaG · 11/05/2009 13:00

ProYaffle thanks for linking to this website full of recipes - I'm going to try the quorn lasagne and the quorn cotage pie from it this week.

Does anyone know syns in Heinz Mac cheese? Ta

MamaG · 11/05/2009 13:01

ProfYaffle · 11/05/2009 13:06

was the potato curry really that bad? Some of the recipes in the red book are awful, 'Slimmers Cheesey Mince' - mince with cottage cheese on top tasty ....

MamaG · 11/05/2009 13:09

LOL at the slimmers cheesy mince

Some of them are hilarious

AuntieMaggie · 11/05/2009 17:18

Thanks MamaG - I'll join when I have time later

So today I have had:

Breakfast - 2 weetabix with milk and a teaspoon of fructose

A bag of quavers

Lunch - Rice salad (syn free)

2 satsumas, banana, mullerlite and 2 biscuits

And I am hungry!!!

For dinner I will be having bacon, poached egg, beans and slimming world chips.

Can anyone see what I can try to stay filled up during the day?

Lilyloo · 11/05/2009 20:15

r/e the pasta i think it was syn free on ee and green if i recall correctly.

AM i always have the alpen bars as they are nice , usually the apple or summer fruit am and one of the choc ones later in the aft.
I also have one of the pink and white mallow things they are quite big and good for quick sweet fix.
A bag of ryvita minis are also a he and they are easy to snack on. I top them with cottage cheese.
I also find bananas help fill me up and put toffee muller on for a change.

Have given up on Sat didn't eat too much but had a white bread roll and some birthday cake. But the wine was free flowing and went down very easy. Have lost count how many i hd tbh so not very hopeful with weigh in tom!!

Snorris · 11/05/2009 20:22

Any tips for just sticking to it? I know what I'm meant to do but everyday I seem to slip into bad habits.
For instance, yesterday I was at a horse show all day. I had a bacon & egg roll from the burger van, only drank water and resisted the really yummy ice cream. Then on the way home we stopped at a shop for more drinks and I bought & ate a ham and cheese pasty. Today I was doing pretty well until I succumbed to a Thorntons mint choc truffle ice cream. I do have an incredibly sweet tooth . I don't really like artificial sweetener and fruit doesn't hit the spot either.

JennyPenny22 · 11/05/2009 20:26

What's fructose?

Regarding the sweeteners - I might not have said the right things as I just skimmed the article. If I get half a chance I will see if I can find it again and link to it. It is from a diet and fitness trainer lady who I am hoping to do an excercise course with in the summer (don't want to do it yet while still recoving from having baby!).

ohhh, the forum looks fab! Another thing I will have to try and make time for! Lol.

I keep wanting to go on the Wii fit but by the time DD goes to bed it is 7-8pm and then we have to eat dinner, then obviously don't want to get straight on the wii after eating but then its pretty much time for bed! I can't excercise too close to bedtime or I can't sleep! And we have DD2 down with us the whole time as she is only 2 weeks old!

Before I start SW properly, I am just trying to work towards not eating so much crap! I am just craving junk ALL the time!

Does anybody know if you can make home made frozen chips and/or roast potatoes etc? And Veg come to think of it. I am awful when it comes to potatoes and fresh vege etc. I never have the time to prepare it all and it ends up going mouldy and gets wasted ! I buy it, determined to eat it, but it gets to the end of the day and i just want some thing I can shove in oven/on hob etc. If I could prepare something once though, then stick in the freezer then it would make me use it. I guess I should just buy frozen veg, but that doesn't help with the potatoes, chips etc as I am guessing all shop bought ones are syns?

lechuga · 11/05/2009 21:33

thanks for that info fuzzy peach-I'll try it tomorrow .
Bought a Princes chicken in a light mayonnaise sauce before-in a type of foil pouch like their tuna. Does anybody know if I can use this as a HE on a green day?

fuzzypeach · 11/05/2009 21:46

snorris that is just the same as me - i get through most of the day being good, then I just give in to the first temptaion without even giving it a second thought!!

I can't remember who reccommended it, but I just made the chicken curry recipe from recent magazine and it was absolutely delicious! Plus it's free on a green day (if you count the chicken as HE) so you can serve it with rice!

ProfYaffle · 12/05/2009 06:46

Snorris - have I seen you in the sparkly 'other place'?

Have to admit I don't have a huge problem in sticking to diets in general, I'm really quite good at losing weight - after all I've done it often enough it's keeping it off that I have a problem with.

Snorris · 12/05/2009 08:03

Prof Yaffle - yes, I have ventured over there!! Not really a ticker/fluffy/sparkly type person but thought I'd give it a go . (I do have a signature strip I'm quite fond of though )

ProfYaffle · 12/05/2009 10:00

I tried to have a ticker but then I lost my password, couldn't be fecked sorting it out so just deleted it. Am off to have a look at your signature .....

TitsalinaBumsquash · 12/05/2009 10:38

Can i join you ladies?

I am re starting SW again, my first meeting is tonight. I did well last time and lost over a stone but it had crept back on and more. I have faced facts that i simply cannot do it without the groups to support me and the knowlage of the weekly wiegh in looming.
I know the plan already so i have been doing it the past few days, I stick to the old system of alternating Green and Red days. I find Green days really eay as i just have Jacket Spuds with a big salad and cottage cheese or SW egg and chips but im struggling with red day meals. I have got a backlog of magazines i will look at but does anyone have any good red day meals?

I am 12stone i have put on 2 stone in 6 months (i didn't realise i had got that bad!) I would like to have a resonable wieght loss by the time i go on holiday at the end of August, im not planning any Bikini jaunts but it seems like a reasonable time to have tost about a stone if not more?

assumpta · 12/05/2009 11:21

Hi, just reading your inspirational thread. Is there such a thing as no syn rice pudding? If so, would any of you ladies share the recipe with me. Thanks. Good luck everyone.

AuntieMaggie · 12/05/2009 11:32

Thanks for the ideas Lily - I'm trying to stick to EE but may have to go back to original so I can have the extra HE

Jenny - fructose is fruit sugar. I can't have normal white sugar as it makes me go funny (very strange as I can have anything else with sugar in it but the minute I have the sugar itself it plays havoc with my blood sugar) so I have it instead.
