New thread! Other one got a bit long!

OP posts:

Herbgarden - I joined by post too! Re syns, you basically decided for yourself how many to have. Most people seem to aim for 10, some go for the full 15. Personally I try to eat all free food and save my syns for either chocolate or wine in the evening. I alternate between zero syns days and 10 - 15 syn days. I think the thing to do it see how your weight loss goes in relation to the syns.

Onto salad dressing, I use either Aspall's apple balsamic vinegar on it's own, or the sw syn free mayonaise recipe. If you've got your pack it's on those fridge magnets in it. Doesn't taste like mayonaise imho but it's a nice, light, mustardy dressing.

Snacks - tbh I don't really snack on SW, don't feel the need very often. I have a big breakfast though, which sees me through to lunch about 1.30pm, then the late lunch se me through to dinner. I think I listed my snacks a few posts back, Ryvita (HE B), sliced meat salad, synned chocolate, that's it although you could have SW chips, Sw quiche, a lot of people have mentioned Mugshots too although I haven't tried them.

Well pretty good week overall. But am using all my 15 syns. Basically a glass wine and fun size maltesers at night with couple of dressings , chilli sauce etc in the day!
Am liking the alpen bars, especially the choc ones and using them for healthy extra (2 = 1 HE)
But got barbecue tom should i just accept defeat now ? Can stick to meat and salad but will have more than 3 glass of wine!

ProfYaffle · 09/05/2009 07:47

How's your weightloss going Lily? If I have an event like your bbq where I know I'll go over I try not to have any syns the day before and the day after and I'll throw in a couple of days Success Express along the way too to mitigate any damage.

Weighed myself yesterday, no weight loss, weighed myself today, 1,5lbs off - weird. If today's reading is to be believed I've now lost a stone.

Quite proud of myself last night, was really craving 'bad' food but I realised it was an emotional response to going to hospital with dh yesterday to get some test results. Once I realised why I wanted bread and cheese the craving went away and I had a cup of tea and a bowl of raspberries instead. [virtuous]

Lilyloo · 09/05/2009 12:27

Well done Proyaffle
I only on week two so yet to see tbh
can have syn free day Sun , Mon then before weigh in and will look at the success express booklet too.
Looks like rain here though so not sure whther the barbecue will even light

nikkid21 · 09/05/2009 12:43

Lost 1lb this week which was surprising as I had my 30th birthday last week and there were a couple of pub meals out. Am now only 1/2 pound over the target weight that I reached last April.

Am determined to keep it off this time and not let the extra half stone creep back on. To make sure that I go to group every week i'm going to help with the weighing when our group gets the new computerised system in the next couple of weeks.

lechuga · 09/05/2009 13:51

hey! after a disastrous SW unfriendly day and night yesterday I am firmly back on the wagon. Can anybody direct me to a recipe I can't even remember the name off please?? It was a type of bake, with baked beans, kidney beans, chopped tomatoes, chilli powder and may have been topped with potatoes??? It may have been called "chilli bean bake" have googled it and can't find the recipe. thanks!

ProfYaffle · 09/05/2009 16:55

Nikki - that's fabulous, you're doing well to keep going for that last half pound, if it was me I'd think 'feck it, I can live with 8oz extra!'. I do hope you keep posting when you're at goal, as I've said before, I think maintaining is the biggest battle of all and you're doing really well. I'm sure your experiences will benefit the rest of us immensely [selfish emoticon!]

Lechuga - that recipe doesn't ring a bell with me I'm afraid but I'll have a quick look in my recipe books later.

ConnieComplaint · 09/05/2009 17:39

If you remember roughly what months mag that bean recipe was in I'll have a look, it seems familiar to me.

I've not been on in a few days (since Wed night I think!)

My food has been very messed up the past few days..not 'bad' but I doubt very much if I've ate enough... will list below for advice:

Thursday: started off as a green day...

B'fast: 1 boiled egg & a banana

Lunch: 1 hard boiled egg sliced with strawberries, apple, muller light & a banana

Dinner: 1 sachet of Oat so Simple

Syns: 1 handful of pick n mix from a bag someone brought into work (I counted 10 syns so had no more)

Friday: EE day

B'fast: 3 slices of bacon

Lunch: salad containing sliced chicken, beetroot, cucumber, boiled egg and rice, followed by fresh pineapple & strawberries sliced

snacks: Ham, 1 pear and 1 apple

Dinner: 1 sachet of oat so simple

Today so far:

B'fast: 2 slices of bacon, bowl of pineapple & strawberries.

Snacks: 1 pear & 1 plum

I know this looks awfully bad, but I'm very down today, to be honest the 1lb gain really effected me last week as when I read through my food diary I didn't see how I could have gained it... and myself & dh had a rown on Thursday afternoon & we're still not really 'talking'. We are, but the argument discussion still has to come.... IYKWIM!!

Nikki & Prof, really well done with the losses!!

Prof, I said hi on the other place but when I read it again they had taken your name out...dunno how or why it happened, but it did!!!

ProfYaffle · 09/05/2009 18:48

Connie - that site has a few odd quirks with the software, when I've used action brackets any text in them disappears. For ages my 'mood today' emoticon was stuck on angry and I couldn't change it, the site owners didn't know what to do either so I was stuck glowering at people for weeks!

ConnieComplaint · 09/05/2009 19:06

Ohhh...by action brackets do you mean < these > 'cos that's what I did.... I said

ProfYaffle · 09/05/2009 19:14

Thems the ones! That's why I said (secret handshake) and not

Snorris · 09/05/2009 19:17

Hi!
Could I join you too? I've been going to SW since end Feb/beginning March, so far I've lost 1 1/2 stone and I'm only 1lb away from my Club 10 award . This is about the third time I've tried SW and the most successful so far . Still got quite a way to go but BF dd5 seems to help - I'm enjoying all the extra HE's .

SparkyPup · 09/05/2009 20:08

Just back from overnight stay at friend's with dd so that kids could have sleepover and we could have wine . Had a feta cheese salad as a starter, then potatoes, green beans and quorn escalopes (the cranberry and goat's cheese ones). They were v. good, but I have no idea what their syn value is and I know that Quorn isn't always as low in syns as I feel it should be! Hopefully not too bad tho'. Blew it totally with pud, which was chocolate cake with caramel sauce. (She made me do it, honest). Took the kids to a big gala day today where they met MR MAKER from CBeebies!! We were almost as excited as they were (how sad are we??? - no wonder I eat too much .....)

JennyPenny22 · 09/05/2009 22:34

Hello. Just wondering if I could join your thread? I am hoping to start slimming world very soon, just running my freezer down of all the crap! And recovering from childbirth too! Lol. I sort of did SW for a couple of months while I was pregnant, but more just used it as a guide to heathy eating as I was worried about the amount of crap I was munching!

Anyway, I have had my baby, she is 2 weeks old. I didn't do too bad with weight gain during my pregnancy, but breastfeeding seems to be my weight gain time, which is what I want to avoid! I put on a LOT of weight when BF DD1 (now 16 months) which I never lost, and I am now exclusivly BF DD2. Have been eating SO much during the last 2 weeks, I never seem to be full! This is my main concern, and I am craving all sweet foods!

Would love any tips on what to stock up with in the fridge/freezer when DH gets paid - lots of free foods to keep me in line! Lol.

Hope you are all doing well, and hope you don't mind me jumping in on your thread!

nikkid21 · 10/05/2009 09:11

Hi Jennypenny - congrats on the baby.

If you are craving sweet thinks I would stock the fridge with muller lights and chopped up melon and pineapple. You can also put a melon segment in the freezer for half hour or so then eat it like a sorbet.

You get healthy extras when BF but if you are anything like I was with no 2 it's a case of grabbing what's easy when you get a chance. Maybe get some laughing cow triangles and mini babybel as they are easy to snack on and you can spread them through the day.

As an aside, are you sure that you are hungry and not thristy? I know that I started dring my tea out of a mug that held a pint of liquid when i was bf

fuzzypeach · 10/05/2009 13:22

lechuga, I have got the recipe, i will type it up later for you - was it chilli and coriander bean bake?

Connie - maybe you are not eating enough? can I ask (just purely out of interest!) why you only have a sachet of oat so simple for your dinner, are you not starving? i wish I could have smaller meals for dinner - as it is meant to be better for you isnt it to have a big lunch and small evening meal - so I jut wondered if that was why you did it?

welcome to jennypenny and snorris!

Today I made lemon an garlic chicken casserole out of a recent mag - and it was very strange! Has anyone else tried it?!
Im just off to do our half week shop and stock up on all the ingredients for the various recipes I am going to try this week whilst DH watches the Manchester derby, but im feeling hungry, so not sure it is the best time to go to the supermarket!!!

ProfYaffle · 10/05/2009 14:57

Hello JennyPenny and Snorris

I had a 'bad' night last night, went over my syns on wine but back on the straight and narrow today. Took dd1 to the cinema and out for lunch, I managed to resist popcorn and had a mixed grill for lunch (red day obv) so all going well so far.

Fuzzy - what was strange about the casserole?

ConnieComplaint · 10/05/2009 15:29

Hi JennyPenny, Snorris & Sparkypup

Fuzzy, the reasons for the Oat so simple may seem kind of strange to some but I will explain

On Thursday it was the anniversary of a friend's death & I wanted to take flowers to her grave..she's been gone 17 years & it seems like yesterday, I adored her. She was my mum's best friend & my mum had 8 children, she had none, so it made sense for her 'mother' myself & my younger sister..she give us everything, took us everywhere, it even got to the stage that when people mistook me for her daughter neither she or me corrected them. Anyway, she got ill and deteriorated quite rapidly, it broke my heart.

(Yes...I do tend to waffle, don't I!!) Her grave is about 30 miles away from where I live now, in the village I grew up in. I finished work at 6, drove home, picked up my 2 kids & headed for her grave. I stopped at my younger sister's on the way as I knew she'd be having as hard a day as me.. I stayed there about an hour then we both went to the grave. (I was offered dinner at my sister's house but it wasn't sw friendly so I said I had eaten at lunchtime!)

Afterwards I visited my mum who lives about 5 miles further from the graveyard.. she is on tablets for depression & I was stunned to see her the way she was. (she too offered me tea, which I accepted, and toasted muffins with jam which I declined & said I had eaten at lunchtime....)

So I stayed with her until about 9.30pm then headed home, arriving home at about 10.10pm. By that time I didn't want anything much to eat, I was upset at DH as I wanted him to come with me to my mum's but he had already made plans (he always plays footie on a Thursday night, so he wasn't being awkward, I just didn't explain very well to him that I was dreading seeing my mum.)

Anyway, did OK Friday lunchtime, but I had visitors on Friday evening... and dh & I still hadn't talked about Thursday evening... the kids had dinner early before I came home from work & dh had a late lunch so wasn't really hungry. Our visitors didn't go home until way after 9pm & by that time I just wasn't going to start cooking...dh got a take away & I had a bowl of oat so simple & toddled off to bed.....

Did much better yesterday though!! Had bacon for breakfast, followed by a bowl of banana, strawbs & pineapple, then snacks of a pear & a plum.

Had a steak for dinner, with boiled potatoes & carrots & brocolli, with mushrooms & onions & pepper sauce..... and one glass of rose wine (Anyone know syns for wine?)

Today has been OK too..had scrambled egg with 2 nimble (HEb) for brunch. Having silverside roast beef for dinner, with pots sw roast pots & veg...maybe followed with a scoop of ice-cream!

ConnieComplaint · 10/05/2009 15:36

Fuzzy, I think I made that lemon chicken too...it tasted so sweet! It seemed wrong for chicken to be as sweet as that!!

fuzzypeach · 10/05/2009 15:47

Proyaffle - it was just an od combinaton of flavours which sounded like they would go well together but really didnt - the garlic was putting a whole bulb of garlic in during cooking then taking out at the end - ive never done this before and was a bit unsure about it - so i seperated all the cloves from the outer skin of the bulb then picked them all out at the end - but the garlic sort of disintergrated from within each clove so there was loads of lumpy garlic bits in it - then the lemon was sliced and so there were also loads of lemon lumps in it as well. It was just bizarre,DH and DD1 were not impressed!!
Well done for resising the popcorn - there is NO way I would ahve been able to!!

Connie - sorry for the loss of your friend - she sounds like she was a wonderful person. I understand why you only had the oats - I think I misunderstood and presumed you had that for dinner quite often so i wasnt sure if there was some miracle weight loss idea I had not heard of
Copied this from the slimming world online food diary..
Wine, Rose wine, 125ml 4½
Wine, Rose wine, 142ml 5
Wine, Rose wine, 175ml 6

ConnieComplaint · 10/05/2009 16:02

Probably better count 6 syns.....

lechuga · 10/05/2009 17:00

Fuzzy-thanks for the offer of typing up the bean recipe. I seem to remember paprika but corainder would be just as good

JennyPenny22 · 10/05/2009 21:40

Lillyloo - that pasta sounds yummy! Is it free? I love pastas and would love to make some free ones, especially as DD can eat them too, and I assume it is freezable?

Nikki - Yes I am also very thirsty. I have been wondering about what to do with tea when I am doing SW as I currently have 1.5sugars in each cup! I am not a huge fan of the sweeteners. I want to start making sure I drink more water too, but don't really know where to start. I don't really like water that much and tend to drink lots of fizzy drinks etc which I know is bad and I would probably feel better in general if I drunk more water, as I am hoping to improve my health as well as control weight.

Wondering what you all think about artificial sweenteners and stuff? I was reading yesterday about how if you have too many products with them in (like most of the diet stuff) then it can actually block some of your weight loss, and people can loose weight, just by cutting them out. Something to do with the body being able to turn sugar into energy, where as it can't do this with the artificial stuff? Where as slimming world encourage these products (with mullerlights, sweeteners in tea etc, diet drinks) but I can't work out another way round it as on the other hand, sugar is so high in Cals.

I don't suppose the muller rice pots are free? I am not too keen on the yogurts, but have recently really gone onto the rice pudding ones but I am assuming they are syns?

fuzzypeach · 10/05/2009 22:48

jenny - the mullerrice are actually quite high in syns, i cant remember how many, but a few weeks ago i bought some, assuming they were low and ate one then looked up the syns and was shocked! think there were about 8 syns in it or something!! i could be wrong though, but sure it was something like that

lechuga -
Coriander & Chilli baked beans
1 red onion
2 red chillis
2 garlic cloves
312g cherry tomatos
handful of fesh coriander
2tsp each of ground corriander, cumin seeds and mustard seeds
1tsp ground ginger
2 400g tins of beans
mashed potato to serve

Peel and slice the onion, deseed and finely chop the chillies, peel and crush the garlic, halve the tomatoes, chop the coriander.
Spray a pan with fry light and cook the onions, chillies, garlic, ground coriander and spices for 4-5 mins. Add the tomatoes and beans, bring to the boil, reduce the heat, then smmer for 2-3 mins. Serve with mashed potato and sprinkle over the coriander

This was in a recent magazine, and I think that I made it years ago and then ended up with my own variation of it which DH loved. I used to make it into a bake like you said, with spinach and lentils, and then top with mashed potato and butternut squash, and instead of coriander I just used chillies and chilli powder.
