Hi girls!!

Right.... the rules:

1 No big goals.
2 No failing.
3 No guilt trips.

Our goals need to be realistic. It freaks me out to think I need to lose 10 stone. That's 140 pounds - it's a WHOLE PERSON!!!!

Therefore I propose that we make ourselves realistic goals. Ignore the final hurdle; the first hurdle is my first half a stone.

7 lbs.

No failing: if you put on any weight, then IT IS ALRIGHT. It will come off again.

We will try our best to keep our weight going down, but if it has a blip, then it has a blip - no big deal, ok?

I am sick and tired of putting myself on and feeling guilt tripped by people because I put a pound or two on this week.

NEWSBREAK: it doesn't matter in the big picture!

Focus on the positives.

We will encourage each other as we muddle along together, agreed?

Here is our inspiration to keep going:

Only One Pound

Hello! Do you know me? If you don't, you should. I'm a pound of fat. And I am the happiest pound of fat that you would ever want to meet.

Want to know why? It's because no one ever wants to lose me; I'm ONLY ONE POUND, just a pound!

Everyone wants to lose three pounds, five pounds, or fifteen pounds, but never only one.

So I just stick around and happily keep you fat. Then I add to myself, ever so slyly, so that you never seem to notice it. That is until I've grown to ten, twenty, thirty or even more pounds in weight.

Yes, it's fun being ONLY ONE POUND OF FAT, left to do as I please.

So, when you weigh in, keep right on saying, "Oh, I only lost one pound." (As if that were such a terrible thing) For you see, if you do this, you'll encourage others to keep me around because they'll think I'm not worth losing.

And, I love being around you - your arms, your legs, your chin, your hips and every part of you.

Happy Days!!! After all, I'm ONLY ONE POUND OF FAT!!!

Haven't posted for a few days but am managing surprisingly well I think. When I lost a lot of weight a couple of years ago it was following an eating plan very strictly and just wasn't sustainable long term. So, I've set a target of a pound a week for the whole year which means I can eat the same food as everyone else (but smaller portions) and is much more realistic.

Am weighing on Friday, will post again then!
Keep it up everyone.

Brilliant hippi!

Alambil · 21/01/2009 16:02

Well done hippi!!!

hippipotamiWantsToLoseAPound · 21/01/2009 18:10

Thank you
I did have one with my afternoon cuppa, but did not feel guilty because I would have had that one anyway.

Am now doing dinner - am having what dh and dc are having but am giving myself an extra large helping of salad and reducing the meat and potato.

ladymariner · 21/01/2009 19:11

well done, hippi, it's really hard to stop yourself so that's brilliant

I haven't succumbed yet either, I'm feeling really pleased with myself, esp as dh is on nights this week which is when I would normally stuff myself (well, one of the times!). I've been on MN loads instead of sitting watching the telly and eating junk!

bellavita · 22/01/2009 07:32

Well done hippi, Lewis and everyone else.

Keep up the good work

I don't really like Thursday's in the day, because I start work at 11.30am. It means that I have to have an early lunch before I go and when I get home am prone to scoffing. I have my shopping coming between 4.00pm/6.00pm, so I need to clear the fridge out this morning. Think I will make some 0 point soup and will have this when I get home to put me on till tea time.

hippipotamiWantsToLoseAPound · 22/01/2009 08:23

Northender, my target is a pound a week for the whole year aswell
Just imagine, we could lose around 50lbs nearly....

swedishmum · 22/01/2009 10:41

DH is working fromhome today and dd3's off ill (only a bad cold but Class R wouldn't appreciate her germs). All my energy is being sapped by them. Grrrr. Think I'll go and try on some clothes and see if they fit me yet - I'll probably come back downstairs even more grumpy!!

CarbJunkie · 22/01/2009 18:30

I am doing really badly

Why can't i do this ?

Have had far too much bread again (6 slices) and a much too large portion for dinner followed by chocolate bloody gatueax (sp?).

I need to do a food shop and not buy anything that I like iykwim. Trouble is I have to buy quite a bit of snacky stuff for the dc's lunchboxes.

Perhaps I should get rid of the kids

hippipotamiWantsToLoseAPound · 22/01/2009 19:05

I am doing badly too - the count so far is two slices of toast with nutella, two chocolate brownies and 4 slices of garlic bread.
Bah humbug!! Am cross with myself, I really am

bellavita · 22/01/2009 19:27

There is always tomorrow ladies , forget about it now and wake up with a brand new day!

duckyfuzz · 22/01/2009 19:36

ok so i have managed to re-lose the weight I put on over the weekend so that's good (better not to have been such a pig at the weekend though ) but am now eating kettle chips and drinking a glass of wine - both for the first time this week so not entirely wicked

twoluvlykids · 22/01/2009 19:55

Hi ladies.

I've been for my WW Weigh in, and have lost the half pound I put on last week.

Not quite the pound, but I'm feeling really positive.

I need to do some exercise, I'm not doing much at all at the moment.

It's so dark and cold, I just huddle up on the sofa with the lap top in the evenings - apart from my Pilates once a week, I really can't miss that!

Well done to everyone, keep up with the motivation.

ladymariner · 22/01/2009 22:15

Hi everyone.

Just tried the new Mullerlite yoghurts, and they're scrummy!!! The chocolate and cherry is 2 syns on SW, but even better, the vanilla and chocolate and the orange and chocolate which is my favourite now, are free and they really are lovely!!! I'm going to buy some more tomorrow and put some in the freezer.

MumHadEnough · 22/01/2009 22:35

Hello Ladies, thought I'd pop in and say Hi. Glad to see most are doing really well, well done twoluvlykids. Those who aren't, well as was said above, tomorrow is a brand new day isn't it!

I'm not doing too badly, have stepped up a plan on Cambridge and now having a meal at night. Just couldn't cope any longer with purely shakes etc all day. Not eating just doesn't cut it with me and it seems that 2 weeks on it is my limit. So not expecting the massive losses this week that I've had the last two weeks.

Please can we ban the use of the word Nutella on this thread, rofl, I'm addicted to the stuff and there's a jar in the cupboard that I hadn't thought about until Hippi mentioned the N word. rofl .

Has anyone tried toning tables? There's a place near me uses them and I quite fancied giving it a go. Just wondered if it works and do you just lie there and let the tables do the work? (sounds bliss!)

swedishmum · 23/01/2009 00:27

CarbJunkie, I can only re-recommend India Knight's IPD - read the bit about why we overeat.
I also think it's a bit like drinking too much - you have to be in the right place to stop. I have been doing low carb (minus red wine for nearly 2 weeks and can see and feel the difference. Apart from the red wine I haven't slipped up once - that includes dd3's birthday inc making 100s of cakes. In all of my 45 years it's the first time I've got this far.
Before Xmas we were queueing up for a plane - crapola queue and no info - woman in row in front says (shouts in US accent): "OMG that poor woman's pregnant. I'm going to get someone." I was that woman, and I have no remote chance of being pregnant. That was the moment I decided enough was enough.

MumHadEnough · 23/01/2009 10:19

OMG swedishmum, I bet you felt like dying on the spot! I've had a similar thing happen. A friend of a friend who'd just had a baby, said to me "I didn't know you'd fell (pg) too?" I just said I'm not, I'm just fat. Poor girl was far more embarassed than me I think lol.

CarbJunkie · 23/01/2009 11:04

Have just looked those books up Swedishmum and they look like just the thing I need.
If I hadn't just spent a stupid amount on my food shop for this week then I would order them right now.

Will treat myself to them next week maybe.

swedishmum · 23/01/2009 14:43

I said exactly the same thing MHE! Not ideal across a check in zone though.
CarbJunkie, there's a website - pig2twig.com linked to the book. Might give you some pointers.
V pleased with myself today - met friends for coffee and had (and enjoyed) 2 Americanos rather than my usual latte. And I wore some trousers that have never fasted up before. Of course, they are still very big trousers....

swedishmum · 23/01/2009 23:47

Hello! Anyone out there?

bellavita · 24/01/2009 00:27

I am here - have just come in from work.

DH has made me a cup of tea. The biscuit tin is staring at me, I made some biscuits this afternoon and I really feel the need to have one, but am determined not to. I can taste them in my mouth..............yum

GiraffesCantDanceAtACeilidh · 24/01/2009 05:41

Hello about to hijack with a wee ramble. I love that poem. Have just weighed myself and have lost 3lb now since 2nd Jan. SO thats a pound a week. Felt a bit slow but now its 3 altogether Im pleased, so the poems so true and worth remembering. Dress arrived for my friends wedding and I tried it on yesterday, fits perfectly, but will looks nicer if i loose a bit of weight around middle. But I am happy with it and am really excited to wear it. If I keep losing 1lb a week until wedding then that will be 11lb all together which is great. Thanks for the poem lewis - its definetly worth remembering.

GiraffesCantDanceAtACeilidh · 24/01/2009 07:25

Also oatcakes are great for a snack, and low GI too. You can get berry ones if you want more a treat. They are lovely.

bellavita · 24/01/2009 08:35

Well done Giraffes , have you got a link for your dress so we can have a look?

swedishmum · 24/01/2009 12:31

Did you avoid the biscuits, Bellavita? Giraffes, that really puts a good perspective on it - I'm one of those people who expects to eat less for a week and look slim! Maybe that's why this time I'm really feeling motivated.
Went out for curry last night - that's why low carb works for me. Avoided naan, rice and poppadoms (and beer) but really enjoyed the food. Pity I had to forgo the Tia Maria topped with cream they hand out with the bill...
