Hi girls!!

Right.... the rules:

1 No big goals.
2 No failing.
3 No guilt trips.

Our goals need to be realistic. It freaks me out to think I need to lose 10 stone. That's 140 pounds - it's a WHOLE PERSON!!!!

Therefore I propose that we make ourselves realistic goals. Ignore the final hurdle; the first hurdle is my first half a stone.

7 lbs.

No failing: if you put on any weight, then IT IS ALRIGHT. It will come off again.

We will try our best to keep our weight going down, but if it has a blip, then it has a blip - no big deal, ok?

I am sick and tired of putting myself on and feeling guilt tripped by people because I put a pound or two on this week.

NEWSBREAK: it doesn't matter in the big picture!

Focus on the positives.

We will encourage each other as we muddle along together, agreed?

Here is our inspiration to keep going:

Only One Pound

Hello! Do you know me? If you don't, you should. I'm a pound of fat. And I am the happiest pound of fat that you would ever want to meet.

Want to know why? It's because no one ever wants to lose me; I'm ONLY ONE POUND, just a pound!

Everyone wants to lose three pounds, five pounds, or fifteen pounds, but never only one.

So I just stick around and happily keep you fat. Then I add to myself, ever so slyly, so that you never seem to notice it. That is until I've grown to ten, twenty, thirty or even more pounds in weight.

Yes, it's fun being ONLY ONE POUND OF FAT, left to do as I please.

So, when you weigh in, keep right on saying, "Oh, I only lost one pound." (As if that were such a terrible thing) For you see, if you do this, you'll encourage others to keep me around because they'll think I'm not worth losing.

And, I love being around you - your arms, your legs, your chin, your hips and every part of you.

Happy Days!!! After all, I'm ONLY ONE POUND OF FAT!!!

Alambil · 20/01/2009 11:28

Thanks guys - have been in uni lectures this morning so had to curb my MNing haha!

I am starting properly from today or tomorrow, tbh because my house needs tidying first and I need to get in the right head space as it were....

I am going to weigh myself once, crack on with the diet and possibly not weigh again for two or three weeks; I have an actual fear of scales so I do it as little as possible!

I am going to start eating breakfast though - even on uni mornings, but I'm not sure how that's going to work out because I leave the house at 7 30 and I can't stomach the idea of eating before then (pardon the pun!)

Anyway, that's where I'm at.... you're all doing amazingly and I'm lagging a bit!

Keep up the good work everyone

bellavita · 20/01/2009 11:35

Lewis, can you not take a little tuppaware kind of box with some cereal in and a plastic beaker type thing with a screw lid with a bit of milk in to uni and have it when you get there?

bitofadramaqueen · 20/01/2009 11:42

Hi everyone, mind if I join you? Would love to lose a pound a week for an awful lot of weeks!

Have been cutting out the midweek snacks and trying to get more exercise in, but to no avail. So would like to redouble my efforts and focus on one pound at a time.

Am a terrible snacker and probably eat far too big portions. Not following any diet really, just trying not to eat rubbish, and fit some more exercise in. When I was at my slimmest I had a really active job but the combination of changing to an office based job and 9 months of pregnancy (sat on the sofa and eating chocolate) have taken its toll!

Alambil · 20/01/2009 12:16

I could bella, but I only have porridge when I'm doing this diet, so could prove difficult!

I need to think of something else that's relatively high carb, low fat, good for me and transportable (and dry, if possible)!

OP posts:
Alambil · 20/01/2009 12:16

ooooooo what about flapjacks....

too much sugar, perhaps

OP posts:
Alambil · 20/01/2009 12:17

oh me again - meant to say... hello bitofadramaqueen

OP posts:
bitofadramaqueen · 20/01/2009 12:20

Thanks Lewisfan. I was inspired after coming across this thread earlier and instead of slumping in front of the tv I did 20 minutes on my very dusty lateral thigh trainer

Re porridge - what about the microwave individual packets of porridge? (If you have access to a microwave at Uni). Or could you take some porridge in a flask?

Alambil · 20/01/2009 12:24

porridge in a flask sounds gross (no offence - it's taking me long enough to come round to the idea of soup in a flask!)

I am not sure of a microwave; we have boiling water they sell us (!) in the cafe though

OP posts:
swedishmum · 20/01/2009 13:47

Granola? It's nice dry. Not sure about the fat content though.
I'm loving low carb food - now have the weeniest dash of milk in my coffee which makes it look a gross colour though! Can't decide what to do tonight - am going to a neighbour's house for pasta/movie girls' night so will prob just eat a bit and explain why. Could always not drink wine...

bitofadramaqueen · 20/01/2009 13:55

None taken! at sale of boiling water.

How about some oatcakes and a banana? Could mash banana onto oatcakes (if you can get a free fork from the cafe )

Dont know if that's compatible with your diet though as I know nothing about dieting!

CarbJunkie · 20/01/2009 17:46

I haven't had a very good day really. The thing is, I still have alot of crap in the house and cannot afford to chuck it or buy new until next food shop.

Have had way too much bread again today (6 slices ).

I have found a wholegrain loaf that I am going to switch to, and limit myself to 2 slices a day.

Unfortunatly cannot afford SW or similar at the moment so will have to stick with you lot

Is there anything other than poridge which fills you up until lunch ?? I really can't stomach porridge at all.

ladymariner · 20/01/2009 19:15

Evening all

I eat a massive bowl of Special K or Morrisons Right Balance every morning with a banana chopped up on it and some blueberries - absolutely delicious and it fills me up till lunchtime. I sometimes have another banana at playtime (I work in a school!) but thats as much to stop me eating the biscuits/chocolate that is always on our staffroom table than because I'm actually hungry.

I had a lovely dinner tonight, I made SW's creamy mushroom stroganoff and it was fab and dead easy and quick to do. Had a huge plateful with boiled rice and it was all "free" cos I'm on a Green day

duckyfuzz · 20/01/2009 19:36

resisted weighting myself yesterday as I knew the weekend was bad and I was right - I've put the weight I lost straight back on again! I've been eating sensibly and no booze since the weekend so hopefully I can lose it again, then have a good weekend instead of a wicked one!

well done to everyone else you're far more disciplined than me

CeceliaAhern · 21/01/2009 00:19

Well done to all. I have lost 2lb but don't know if that is more to do with the Christmas chocs nearing their end or any serious effort on my part. Am hoping to do well this week but have had about 6 biscuits today

swedishmum · 21/01/2009 07:17

CarbJunkie, I could eat toast (pref white) all day! After a week and a half of low carb eating I'm finding I forget to buy bread - makes packed lunches for the 4 children a bit difficult!
Pasta night with neighbours last night - I ate a very small portion and explained why. Now my female neighbours all know, there's even more pressure to keep up the diet. Not sure if that's good or bad
On a positive note my asthma is much improved (much less wheat perhaps??) and hopefully will get even better as there's less of me to lug around.
Hope everyone has a good day

hippipotamiWantsToLoseAPound · 21/01/2009 08:20

Hi all

Have not been on this thread for a week (got a bit scared, the thread is sooo big) and did not really kerb my eating either
I suddenly caught sight of myself in the mirror yesterday adn was appauled, and for the first time was not able to mentally rationalize adn excuse my size.
I then also worked out that yesterday I had scoffed 1 slice of sponge cake and 4 chocolate brownies
So, I have changed my name to remind myself that I am meant to be dieting.
I will only weigh myself every other Monday, and will post results here if that is okay.

Please please, if you see me on any other threads, can you remind me I am meant to be on a One Pound diet? Because honestly, my bad eating habits are sooo ingrained I cannot stick to a diet without constant reminding at the moment.

Thank you

Alambil · 21/01/2009 11:48

Will do hippi - when you reach for a cake, can you think - not this time, next time?

I'm trying to do that at uni with chocolate - it worked yesterday. Usually I'd have 4 4finger kitkats and a muffin and yesterday I only had one muffin at lunch...

Good luck hippi - you can do it

OP posts:
hippipotamiWantsToLoseAPound · 21/01/2009 11:49

Thank you Lewis
And well done for only havign a muffin!
Have just come back from Sainsburys and have bought some reduced fat rich tea biscuits. Hopefully they will satisfy the sweet craving if I absolutely must have something

swedishmum · 21/01/2009 12:06

Well done on the one muffin Lewis.
Hippi, I've found it's a habit to stick stuff in my mouth without thinking about it. It's getting easier after a week and a bit though. Hope it will for you too. Have you tried keeping biscuits somewhere different so you don't just grab them out of habit? OUrs are on top of the kitchen cupboards so I have to stand on a chair to get them which gives me the thinking time needed not to eat them!
I'm definitely a boredom eater (plus I love the taste of food) and dd3's off school unwell today so I'm stuck in the house with CBeebies and a clingy 5yo. Very boring. Must steer clear of the fridge!

Alambil · 21/01/2009 12:46

Oh sweet cravings are sorted with dried cranberries - they're like raw sugar (but good for you) and you only need a handful!

OP posts:
hippipotamiWantsToLoseAPound · 21/01/2009 15:10

Thanks swedishmum
I am a true boredom eater too. And it is just such a habit....
BUT:
I have just walked into the kitchen, opened the cake tin, grabbed a brownie, brought it to my mounth, opened my mouth, stopped, sniffed it (yum), thought 'no' and put it back in the tin.
And then had to come straight on here to share my (ever so tiny) success
