....not necessarily the best kick-start to losing weight.
My Mum has just announced to my family that since I have put on weight, I am looking increasingly like my 20st rugby playing uncle. So, time to put away the pringles I fear! Anyone want to join me (after new year)

Congratulastions lilo, that's fantastic!

I think I am 2 pounds lighter too, we're both on track to lose half a stone by end of Jan.

I've been good today, boiled eggs for breakfast, ham sandwich for lunch and some fruit as snacks.

Having bangers and mash for tea tonight though, will make sure I don't have too much.

ilovelovemydog · 12/01/2009 16:29

May I join please?

Have 2 DCs - DD 2 years and DS 10 months, may be 11 months

Need to lose about 2 stone? I think... about 30 pounds....

Went to gym this morning -- really makes a difference as the DCs are booked into the creche, so I have to go....

How many calories are in a G/T?

NoShitSherlock · 12/01/2009 17:45

Hi and welcome ilove. A gin is about 57 cals and if you use diet tonic its probably 1 cal so 58 cals all in.

I had museli for breakfast, a friend made me a ham and cheese toastie and dinner I had chilli con carnie.

In all a pretty good day as I didn't snack

madhairjanuary · 12/01/2009 18:18

I haven't abandoned you, just a madly busy couple of days. Well done all of you for keeping to it and don't beat yourselves up for occasional slip ups, I think actually it's important to have treat meals sometimes!!
was quite good all weekend, had pizza friday but managed not to eat my usual amount, and have had smaller meals all weekend. Weighed myself this morning and have now lost 4lb in one week, so not bad. Weighed myself again at the gym, and the scales there showed me as 5lb less than my ones at home, so I would like to believe those (said 10 st 6lb) but have a feeling my home ones are closer, given fat bits. never mind, gave me a lift anyhow.

Congrats chancellor and lilo on losing, well done

loler · 12/01/2009 20:41

Wow - in the ten stone bracket - show me the way to those scales. Although if they are in a gym might be struck down as I crossed the threshold!

I'm still feeling pretty pants and not fancying chocolate (must be ill) - so hoping it lasts!

lilolilmanchester · 12/01/2009 21:17

welcome ilove!
Congrats to all of you, no matter what the weight loss this week. I think we're all being more sensible than we were before we started and it's just great having so much support from like-minded people.
HOpe you're feeling better soon Loler, sounds exactly like what I had early last week.
Keep it up!

NoShitSherlock · 13/01/2009 15:31

I am soooooooooo p*ssed off. I know I wasn't an angel but stayed within my cal quota and guess what I have put a pound on this week. I am nearly at the end of my TOTM. Do you think this would cause the rise even though its nearly at the end?

ilovelovemydog · 13/01/2009 15:48

Same scales? Were you wearing the same thing?

I'm really good during the day and stick to sensible meals, but absolute downfall is around 10:00 pm when I am starving! (Doesn't help that DS feeds continuously from 7pm - 10 pm!!)

Any ideas people?

NoShitSherlock · 13/01/2009 16:09

Yep same scales, time and don't wear anything.

How about eating half your dinner when you normally have it and the other half at 9pm?

Thanks NSS, some useful stuff there. V annoying for you re the extra pound, don't let it demotivate you, it's only a pound and could depend on lots of stuff, totm is renowned for making you heavier, even toward the end. Keep pressing on, you'll see results, I know how frustrating it is tho. Don't weigh yourself again for another week if you can manage it, then you may have lost some more.
I am struggling....have done really well at cutting portions etc, but today have been sooooo hungry, might be to do with fact period approaching, and finding it hard not to succumb to the christmas chocolate we still have loads of lying around. Need some talking to...
Will be away from tomorrow til friday, and may be quite bad as going to stay in a hotel for a conference, nice breakfasts etc, my willpower aint that great....but I can start again after I suppose, I will just try to be sensible and not go over the top.
How is everyone else getting on?

lilolilmanchester · 14/01/2009 08:44

Hi NSS thanks for the snack suggestions, I'm a MAD snacker.
Sorry you've been disappointed this week BUT I am always heavier at that TOTM. Also, DO you weigh yourself at the same time of day?
Don't be downhearted, if you've tried to be good then just think how much you'd have put on if you hadn't been good - so still a result, in a way.
Do you write down everything you eat? I'm not doing that at the moment, but they reckon a food diary is good as it's easy to just have a snack here and there, and even at 100 or 200 cals, they can add up over a week. Good luck, don't give up!

lilolilmanchester · 14/01/2009 08:48

Madhair, don't suppose you'll see this but if you do, hope you enjoy the conference. Know what you mean about cooked breakfasts, I'm a sucker for those when away with work. There are obvious ways of reducing the calorie intake of cooked breakfasts, but you'll know that!! It's so tempting isn't it? The choice is simple, either eat what you normally would, and then start diet again after or try to eat the most sensible food on offer. I think the only rule should be if you do go for greasy fry-up, and a stodgy dinner with loads of wine in the evenings - for goodness sake ENJOY EVERY MOUTHFUL and don't feel guilty!

NoShitSherlock · 14/01/2009 10:59

lilo - I am calorie count through weight loss resources and put everything down that passes my mouth. It works out from your heaight, weight, age, sex and how much you want to lose how many cals you should be eating a day. Its a good website but have been so good and ate 2000 cals less for the week than I should have.

To gain 1 pound you need to eat 3500 cals extra a week, thats 500 per day and if you want to lose 1 pound you have to eat 3500 cal less a week.
You must eat at least 1100 cals a day because your body goes into starvation mode if you eat less.

ilovelovemydog · 14/01/2009 15:33

Thanks Sherlock

Just did the food focus thing -- I wanted to shout at it, 'but I just did a massive workout at the gym!' Oh well.

Always used to be concerned abut fat content, so paying attention to calories is new....

Am going to stock up on herbs and spices, otherwise am going to go mad!

NoShitSherlock · 14/01/2009 15:52

I did try food focus but found it crap. There is no helpteam and the database didn't have a lot of the stuff I needed. WLR do a 24hr free trial, why don't you give it a go?

lilolilmanchester · 14/01/2009 16:03

oh yes you did mention that earlier NSS, sorry I forgot. Am trying just to eat & drink sensibly to see if that makes a difference. If I start to stall, will move to calorie counting and perhaps try that website. I had cereal for breakfast and soup, roll, banana for lunch. Tho am starting to feel peckish now so will go get some fruit I think. We're having fishcakes tonight.
Very good point re not reducing your calorie intake too much. (that's the kind of advice I like!!!)

cariadambyth · 14/01/2009 16:34

Hello, hope I am still welcome, I've not checked in for a while.

I've been feeling a bit rough over the last few days, as have the kids, the usual Winter sniffles. I've been feeling very sorry for myself and comfort eating. I dread weighing!

Thanks ever so for putting the food list and calories on here, it's really useful, at least it will be when I get back on the wagon again I've got a lot of catching up to do, you are all doing really well.

lilolilmanchester · 14/01/2009 17:32

of course you're still welcome Cariad! Sorry you've been feeling rough, hope you feel better soon. This isn't a competition, it's about supporting each other through the bad times as well patting each other on the back when it goes well. Take care of yourself.

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 14/01/2009 17:50

Hi everyone, not much to report but just checking in really...

I've been good apart from last night, when I had a dairy milk and some chips, but it's still an improvement on what I've been like previously.

Touch wood we seem to have DD's sleep issues under much better control and I am hoping the extra sleep helps me to lose weight. I know they say that sleeping and weight gain are connected, which is pretty tough when you have a 5 month old plus baby weight!

NoShitSherlock · 14/01/2009 19:00

Oh thats interesting chancellor, my DD who is 2.7yrs has us up from 3.30am pretty much everyday. Maybe thats why I am finding it hard to lose weight

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 14/01/2009 19:04

Brief summary here sherlock

cariadambyth · 14/01/2009 19:58

Thanks for your lovely message lilolil. I'm just curled up with a lemsip.

Hope everyone is doing ok, it's always around this time that an attack of the munchies kicks in isn't it!

Chancellor, glad you are getting the sleeping back on track

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 14/01/2009 20:00

Thanks cariad, sorry to hear you are ill. Hadn't noticed that before

Get well soon.
