....not necessarily the best kick-start to losing weight.
My Mum has just announced to my family that since I have put on weight, I am looking increasingly like my 20st rugby playing uncle. So, time to put away the pringles I fear! Anyone want to join me (after new year)

Hi all, skipped breakfast (bad I know but woke to late after also having a bad night's sleep) Just had a baked potato and beans for lunch, very healthy but dry (canteen at work). But pleased that I avoided the korma and popadom which is usually ace and a beautifully light looking cheese quiche. Anyone had any wobblers yet? I have had 2 alcohol free days, which doesn't sound great in itself but the longest break in a LONG time. Hope to get to the weekend before cracking but don't think I'll get through the weekend without some wine.

Hi Ladies - some inspiring words here....

Lilo - I am like you in that I now weigh MORE than I did at the end of pregnancy number 2 ( 8 yrs ago!!!). It has slowly crept up on me and whilst I have tried before to loose weigh I am unsuccessful - I grab food on the run, eat more chocolate and biscuits than are good for me and sup a couple of glasses of wine most days - so no guesses as to why I am overweight. I have 25lbs to loose
Oh, and exercise - I hate it!!!

Would love to be alcohol free - gave in last night and had 1 glass - I am convinced it is that which is making me gradually creep up the scales

Sonnet · 07/01/2009 13:49

ooo Loler - we got a wii fit for christmas too - I've been "running" - well jogging on the spot . Hula hoop is brill isn't it - although I'm not too hot a "catching" all the rings!! LOL

lilolilmanchester · 07/01/2009 13:57

Hi Sonnet, so if you have a couple of glasses of wine most days and only had one last night, then that's an improvement. Don't beat yourself up. Today's another day. This is all about us each doing what works for us, it's not a competition to see who loses the most weight the quickest. That won't work in the long run. If you like the odd treat, have it and ENJOY it slowly. Perhaps have a smaller glass of wine, smaller piece of chocolate, less often? Would that work for you?

lilolilmanchester · 07/01/2009 14:00

Meant to post this link when I read it yesterday... your comment re the wine just made me think of it. I think this will be helpful to many of us on here!

madAngelHairday · 07/01/2009 14:05

Loler, that's some really good ideas, thanks.
Afternoon everyone. Weighed myself this morning and have lost 3lb since saturday, so pretty pleased by that, I'm not eating low fat etc, just cutting my portions, not snacking and eating slowly, also big glasses of water seem to help - not as exciting as a chocolate bar I know, but I find if I drink one when I get a craving I often feel full enough to stave it off, also find that drinking one before a meal helps not to eat so much.

madAngelHairday · 07/01/2009 14:08

good article lilolil, good to remember if we don't achieve everything we want it doesn't mean we've failed. keep pushing on...

lilolilmanchester · 07/01/2009 14:25

that should be this thread's mantra I reckon MadAngelHairday - good one

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 07/01/2009 16:36

Well done MAH, that's great in such a short space of time.

I'm keeping wine as my treat although I suspect it may be behind my post-pregnancy weight gain. I was teetotal for my whole pregnancy and put on two stone, half of which I lost straight after I had DD. But I've put on half a stone since then and I think it's partly wine.

I'm going to cut back but not giving it up completely since I was deprived for nearly a year!!! So, I'm giving up chocolate instead. Ouch!

NoShitSherlock · 07/01/2009 17:59

Hi all. Thats a good article lilo.

I had a pitta filled with ham salad for lunch and some fruit and for dinner I had lots of veg and some mash and some steak. Very yummy

lilolilmanchester · 07/01/2009 18:17

well done NSS. Is anyone struggling yet? Don't be afraid to post just cos so many people are doing well! Haven't eaten yet, going to have some pasta with a tomato sauce while everyone else has something creamy and cheesey

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 07/01/2009 18:57

DH has just offered to make me sausage, egg and chips to cheer me up after a horrible day and night with DD.

Will that ruin it do you think? I had toast for breakfast, tuna sandwich for lunch and that's it apart from a couple of oatcakes. Am breastfeeding so guess I have extra calories..

kayzr · 07/01/2009 19:25

I have been really struggling with crisps. I have no willpower with crisps, so poor DH will have to stop having them too.

lilolilmanchester · 07/01/2009 21:25

chancellor, hope you had your fry up and enjoyed it. You have done really well all week and had loads of exercise If you are going to have the odd fry up , for goodness sake savour every mouthful. Don't feel guilty, unless it starts becoming a regular habit. As you say, if you are breastfeeding, you need to make sure you don't under-eat.
I've just had a champagne chocolate truffle, just one (thinking about a second tho!) but don't think it will make a huge difference.
Kayzr, it's awful when you crave something like crisps. My downfall is cheese - there's a whole camembert in the fridge which looks longingly at me everytime I open the door. Will get DH and the DCs to eat it all in one go and give me a little slither! Keep going folks!

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 07/01/2009 21:28

Thanks lilo,

It wasn't too naughty in the end, I didn't have many chips and just one sausage.

Am having some wine now though, yum.

Just had a chat with DH about ttc again and he's happy to do it whenever I'm ready. I want to lose weight first though, so I guess that's an extra incentive!

lilolilmanchester · 07/01/2009 21:48

I'm going to start drinking wine from a smaller glass to see if I can drink less that way (a girl can dream, eh!) Trying to stay off the booze until Friday, but we always have wine at the weekends, usually half a bottle each. Am thinking if I can have a couple of small glasses, rather than a couple of large, it will help over time, won't it?

cariadambyth · 08/01/2009 08:25

Hi, have been reading through this thread and think thinking how sensible we all are .

I don't think that depriving ourselves of anything will work long term. I think I will switch to a smaller wine glass too and unless it's been a really bad day try to restrict it to weekends. Good thinking Lilolil.

Also, I love to have a treat once I have won the 'bedtime battle' so I have been eating a couple of quality streets in the evenings. I know it's not great but it has to be better than the 5 chocolate hobnobs I would usually have [sceptical face]

lilolilmanchester · 08/01/2009 10:59

I think if we all want to win the weight battle longer term - not just a quick weight loss - we do have to be sensible. So one sausage vs 2; small vs lg glasses of wine/portions of chips; 2 quality street vs 5 hobnobs has to be the way to go, surely? I don't want a life that's all carrot sticks and no chips or all fruit and no chocolate, but sometimes drink/chocolate/crisps etc can be a habit so if we can help each other to break those habits, we'll be doing well.

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 08/01/2009 11:24

Well said Lilo, I do agree. Complete deprivation is the easiest was of falling off the band wagon in my book.

How is everyone doing today? I've just come back from and hour and half walk - the poor dog doesn't know what's hit her. I didn't manage to get out the previous two days though because of the ice, so making up for that really.

Going to get those weight watchers scales at some point this week too. I've realised that I'm going to need to see every individual pound lost in order to stay motivated.

NoShitSherlock · 08/01/2009 11:56

I think we all need to train ourselves to eat in moderation because when you remove everything you enjoy from your diet you will fail.

If you buy the snack size malteasers they are only 99 cals or a 2 finger kitkat is 107 cals that should kill the night time munchies. It does it for me

Everyone is doing so well keep it up.

I have have a ham salad wrap today and some fruit for lunch. Had museli this morning. Don't know what to do for dinner. Anyone have any ideas?

kayzr · 08/01/2009 12:36

I haven't had any crisps today!! Also I had to go to the next town to take DS2 for his hearing check. Plenty of hills there so did lots of walking round the shops.

cariadambyth · 08/01/2009 13:02

I've just had the biggest slice of cake at a friend's house. It was deeeelish

Just thought I should confess!! Onwards and upwards...

lilolilmanchester · 08/01/2009 13:12

breakfast: ready brek
lunch: Soup, roll, banana, yoghurt

But am worried about the weekend. I have been in work this week and still haven't got my appetite fully back so have had an easy ride. Think the snacking and alcohol temptation will be a killer this weekend.

NoShitSherlock · 08/01/2009 13:16

It might be a good idea to add soda water to your wine and make it a sprizer, it will last so much longer and you will drink less

lilolilmanchester · 08/01/2009 13:36

that's a good idea, tho I must admit I like a glass of red wine with a meal. Personally, think I'd rather just have a smaller glass and fewer glasses of the undiluted stuff. White wine spritzers a good idea if just having as a "drink" rather than with a meal - for me at least
