....not necessarily the best kick-start to losing weight.
My Mum has just announced to my family that since I have put on weight, I am looking increasingly like my 20st rugby playing uncle. So, time to put away the pringles I fear! Anyone want to join me (after new year)

I am counting calories through weight loss resources.

dizzydixies · 06/01/2009 20:01

cariad I'm 5ft 6" (and a half!!) and I'd LOVE to be 10st7lbs

just waiting on DH to get up out of bed to set up the Wii so I can weigh in - am not being all girly and pathetic honest, the skart lead thingy on his precious TV is all buggered and I'm not touching it incase I make the problem worse

cariadambyth · 06/01/2009 20:38

Hi, please don't be . As I've mentioned earlier, I'm going to my sil's wedding in June and she's blonde, beautiful and about a size eight!
I'm fairly new to this site and was attracted to this thread as it seemed one of the friendlier ones re weight loss. Thanks for starting it.
Dizzy, your dh sounds like mine, he's very attatched to his tv too and never sees the funny side of sticky finger prints all over it

dizzydixies · 06/01/2009 20:43

cariadambyth you're going to have to tell me what one earth your username is/means/was inspired by!

DH has had this precious TV for over a year now and promised me it would be up on the wall before christmas - its in the spot my tree should be in

needless to say its STILL on its stand taking up MY corner and tough re the sticky fingers

lilolilmanchester · 06/01/2009 20:49

what have you all had for tea? I had a small bowl of chilli and brown rice followed by two oranges. Might have a yoghurt later cos still feeling a bit peckish.

lilolilmanchester · 06/01/2009 20:49

(not helped by watching MasterChef!)

cariadambyth · 06/01/2009 20:49

My user name is Welsh, it means 'love forever/ always'. I'm not usually the soppy, slushy type but it seemed every English user name I tried had already been taken so I went for this. Hope people like it.
Hope the tv makes it on to the wall in 2009!

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 06/01/2009 20:54

Lilo I had two sausages with mashed potato and mushy peas. Probably not the best thing but didn't have a huge serving.

Not having any treats this evening other than the vat glass of wine I needed after putting DD to bed (first night in her own cot in her own room, sob).

dizzydixies · 06/01/2009 21:01

its a lovely name and if the TV doesn't get onto the wall it shall be going out in the shed

I had some chicken and brocolli thing from markies (oohh hark at me!!) and mash

chancellor I'm taking the route of not eating after dinner as thats when I'm at my worst. will work on portion size etc once I've started shifting something aa feel it would be a bit too overwhelming to do it all at once

I like salads/soups etc as it is - just REALLY need to work on the sodding evening munchies

right off to kick DH out of bed for his nightshift so if he isn't in too much of a hurry will get this thing up and running - may chuck it through patio doors if its rude to me though

lilolilmanchester · 06/01/2009 21:26

anyone any suggestions for satisfying evening munchies (realistic, ie not carrot sticks or celery, unless they float your boat then by all means go ahead!) I was thinking maybe boiled sweets or even low fat chocolate mousse things? Tho must admit, really enjoyed my sweet juicy oranges tonight (saintly emoticon!)

lilolilmanchester · 06/01/2009 21:27

oh, and good luck with DD's first night away from you Chancellor, hope it goes well - for you as well as for her!

loler · 06/01/2009 21:29

Hello - I lost just over 2 stone last year with the help of another of these threads that has since died a death (hoping if there are any of the lulu41 thread out there that you are all still lovely and thin!) - I've managed to put nearly a stone of it back on (mainly over christmas) so need a kick to get it off again.

Having cleared the fridge of lots of nice fatty things for my tea I now feel ready to turn over a new leaf - with a thread title like yours feeling I could fit in here?

I've got 3 dc (16mths, 3 and 5) - never had a flat tummy, am 5ft6 and just weighed myself at 12st11. Would also love to be 10st7 but would be happy to get to 11st3 wgich is when my BMI gets to healthy weight rather than over weight.

Got a Wii fit for christmas and so hoping that might get me moving in the evenings - keep doing the hula hooping though as it's the only one I'm any good at.

dizzydixies · 06/01/2009 21:30

grapes in the freezer or cherry tomatoes with low fat hummoud in this house

I KNEW it, he's up and away without doing the Wii Fit [grr][knew it emoticon]

can't really complain too much as he's been at work all day, helped with dd's this evening and then only went to his bed at 7.30pm before doing a 10hr nightshift tonight

I might have lost a lb overnight

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 06/01/2009 21:34

Thanks Lilo, bit gutted as she's not quite 5 months and wanted to keep her in for 6months but she's outgrown her crib and there's no room for a cot in our room. We do have one on thos breathing sensors on our baby monitor though so sure there's nothing to worry about.

Welcome cariad and loler.

Dizzy - much better to weigh yourself in the morning than the evening, you will be lighter then

As to snacks, I bought some oatcakes that were on offer in Sainsbury's and they're actually v nice (although DH doesn't agree). I've been taken them out with me to stave off my ravenous breastfeeding appetite. Also like new york bagels as a snack if I'm very peckish, or snack a jacks if I'nm craving something sweet.

dizzydixies · 06/01/2009 21:38

chequers DD3 was in her own cot a few weeks ago and its all gone fine, she was far too big for her moses basket and again, no room in with us for her cot - you'll be fine, just be brave

shall ask him to set it up before he goes to bed in the morning but then we have worry of DD2 thumping all over it - she's not known for her light touch

lilolilmanchester · 06/01/2009 21:52

loler, any hot tips from last year? You did really well, and you're still over a stone lighter, that's something! I think we need to find a way of losing weight but in a sustainable way. ie so we aren't starving ourselves or denying ourselves the occasional treat, don't you think? More trying to remove the gluttony, in my case at least! So, we might lose it more slowly, but be more likely to keep it off. Thoughts? Ideas?

loler · 06/01/2009 22:26

There was a really good summary of successful weight loss that someone from the old thread did. She lost over 5 stone. Will go away and try to dig it out.

The biggest tip is to eat less - sounds easy but try it!

dizzydixies · 06/01/2009 22:31

oh thank god, there might be some hope for me as I think I'm going to be at about the 5 stone mark

loler · 06/01/2009 22:36

Found it - This was the post by Ags (she doesn't seem to have been around for a while - must be off dancing a skinny dance somewhere!)

These are the things that are most important for me :-

  1. I have had two yummy children and don't want any more. So in a way I feel I am ready and my body is mine and won't be affected by pregnancy again.
  1. I eat only what I like. I hate feeling deprived so that means a large portion of something delicious. I try not to waste points on anything that will not taste nice.
  1. I always have a treat every day. Mostly a Crunchie which I leave til night time. Children asleep, me with my Crunchie and cup of coffee. Bliss.
  1. I do not apologise for what I eat. Previously I would always try to 'fit in' and fool myself that it would be rude not to eat the cakes/chocolate/take away etc. I am more than happy to be in the company of people who eat them, indeed I am happy to serve them but I don't eat them anymore.
  1. I have recognised that I could excuse every single emotion, occasion, bad day, good day, morning, afternoon, evening as an excuse to eat unhealthily. So, I have stopped saying things like "this was a bad week because I went to a wedding". Instead, I try to save points through the week, indulge in whatever I feel like at the event and then get straight back to healthy eating the next day. If I stay the same that week or only lose a half I have done well.
  1. I tend to do the 'breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper' thing. It seems to suit my digestion to eat lightly after 6pm.
  1. I started at 21 stones 4 pounds so I have a very large amount of weight to lose - almost 10 stones to get inside my healthy weight range! I have tended to focus only on my interim goals (indeed initially my 10% seemed too big a goal to focus on) like each half stone, dropping from one stone to another (ie going from 18stone 1 to 17 stone 13), going up another digit in pounds lost (ie going from 48 pounds lost to 51 pounds lost). If there is a numerical goal to be found, I will find it. I also keep a spreadsheet in excel of my weekly weight loss with the milestones highlighted and a projection of future weight loss based on an average 2 lb loss per week. I know, completely sad but this all spurs me along. I can look ahead and hope that, all going well, by August when I go to Ascot, I will be in the 16 stone range!
  1. I write off a bad day and get straight back into the good eating. I don't focus on what I already ate and concentrat instead, on saving points to make up for it.

I am sorry, this is far too long but after a long chat with Mum today, this stuff is very much in my mind and it is cathartic to write it all down.

Having said all this, I am still crossing my fingers every week hoping my bubble doesn't burst and hoping that if it does I will be able to mend it. Also, I have yet to get into an exercise regime which is essential. Any tips would be welcome. I am a seriously lazy cow!

I think she was ace and could do with printing this out and sticking on my fridge door as a reminder. When she talks about points most of us ended up doing weight watchers. Off to bed so I can't have any more icecream.....

lilolilmanchester · 06/01/2009 22:37

see, I'd rather eat more but of the right stuff loler, cos I like to eat. I did a calorie controlled diet before I got married and realising I could have a whole plate of fish, veg and potatoes for the "price" of a pork pie was very educational! Tho there is something to be said for a pork pie every now and then

NoShitSherlock · 07/01/2009 08:18

Hi loler I was on that thread too. But think I was either shortandsweet or oiwhatsoccurring. I have lost 2 and half stone so far and have kept it off. Slowly but surely. Been trying for 1.5yrs.

For dinner last night I had pasta, veg, tomato based sauce and a wee bit of cheese.

For breakfast I am having museli and milk.

Hope you all have a great day

cariadambyth · 07/01/2009 08:19

Morning all.
Chancellor, I hope you managed to have a good night's sleep.
I hope we all have another successful day. I'm planning to have porrige for breakfast, fruit and a yoghurt for lunch and a stir fry for dinner. We'll see how it goes. Does anyone else find it harder to diet when it's so cold? I always want to turn to stodgy comfort food in the winter!

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 07/01/2009 10:29

Hi everybody, some inspiring words on here!

Cariad, I had a terrible night but thanks for asking. DD was awake beween 11 and 2 and then only went back to sleep for two hours, but that, I guess, is another story!!

I sneakily weighed myself today (day 5, very bad!!) and I definitely seem a bit lighter. Our scales are rubbish though, it's really hard to see the pounds so I'm going to go by the kilos I think, unless anyone can recommend some decent scales?

Good luck for today everyone.

NoShitSherlock · 07/01/2009 11:27

Chancellor I bought some weight watcher ones from argos here and they are fantastic.

chancelloroftheexCHEQUERS · 07/01/2009 11:31

That's great, thanks sherlock i think i will invest in some today.
