I've been lookinf around for the big day and you lot are a motivated bunch aren't you!

I'm not going on a frenzy before 2009, but know I won't make commitment beforehand.

Is there anyone else waiting for the new year?

If so, what method are you thinking of using?

Tessieb - Well done on the diet coke! Your body will be thanking you very soon. An anecdote here if you want one... I didn't mention that I was in the same predicament 3 years ago. I knew it was awful for me around 10 years ago and gave it up on my md friend's advice. But i was on a particularly physically and mentally gruelling tour 3 years ago, and basically fell back on it the way i did through my teens and early 20s as a way of staying on edge. I had it bad, with a diet coke, cigarette and a morsel of food for breakfast! [hmm} So, on this tour, one of my fellow colleagues who is a world class acrobat/clown, so in peak physical condition, had noticed my addiction and made me swear that i would never drink one again. He said coffee wasn't going to do me too much harm, but that stuff was poison. Within a couple of weeks my headaches and general aches disappeared, and the tour magically became much easier physically for me. Everyday you're without it, your body has a chance to heal. Even if you were to drink it in two weeks time, your taste buds would reject it and your body would let you know in no uncertain terms that it is horrible. And makes some very greedy people stonking rich. Well done! Well done! I'd set my mad clown friend on you if you drank it in the next couple of days. But you won't.

Thanks for your encouragement Bessieb. Didn't realise you were into drinking diet coke once - it's addictive stuff. I've always known it's bad (not quite how bad until recently) and I've always said that one day I would stop drinking it, though that day never seemed to come until Tuesday! I've tried to cut down before and just have the odd glass, but that doesn't work as I just want more. So this time that's it - no more ever!

Did you find it difficult to stop drinking it? Surprised that I haven't at all - just keep thinking about what's in it and what it can do.

Anyway, I'm curious. Touring with a world class acrobat/clown - more information please!!! What were you doing? Sounds really exciting and I'd love to know.

Hi all,

Just popping to say hi after Mixedmama pointed me this way (cooeee mixed mama)

Am doing Paul McKenna kinda and so far lost 3lbs so dead happy.

Can't wait to meet you all properly but its only a quick post from me tonight as I need to go to bed.

Hope you is all ok and that its working for you too.

countessofmontecristo · 09/01/2009 08:59

Hello Lucky. Nice to see you here. Well done on the 3 lb weight loss.
I am very tempted to do the Paul McKenna stuff, and have been watching the tv shows this week on it, but I am reluctant to give up my 'dieting' yet, as I am not totally convinced it could work. It seems too easy. I think I'm going to stick with the calorie counting a little bit longer and re think it through in a week or so. Keep us up to date with how you're doing and I might become a convert.

Hello to everyone else. Is there anyone doing a weigh in today or are we all Monday weigh ins?

mixedmama · 09/01/2009 09:32

Morning all...

You know I get headaches and things all the time, so might get off the diet coke and see if that helps thanks Bessie... agreed we need more details about touring with clowns/acrobats, were you in the circus??? Spill.

Had TWO choc bars yesterday and no exercise again. Have WW weigh in today so will see if there is any damage... dont think I will be able to hold off posting it till Monday tho.

I have DS2 1st bday this weekend so different sections of family over on Staurday and Sunday with two absolutley delicious cakes .... will have to have a small piece each day... remembering the mantra from the other day SMALL pieces...

Hey Lucky - glad you made it over... truly the ladies here are great and we are all doing well spurring each other on and well done on the 3lbs.

Morning to all...

Brekkie
Crunchie nut and skimmed milk
Coffee with skim and sweetner at work now
Lunch likely to be sushi (yes i know i seem to eat that every working day)
Dinner nothin planned, DH at home so if he cooks will prob eat that otherwise am thinking about a low cal soup and one piece of bread.

Wintersun · 09/01/2009 09:40

Tessieb well done on giving up the diet coke! you'll feel good for it.

Bessie I'm intrigued too. Tell us more

Hi LuckySalem. I tried Paul McKenna a couple of years ago when a friend leant me her cd. It worked really well when I listened to it every night but as soon as I forgot/didnt have time to listen to it, it stopped working. He encourages a good attitude to food. I liked the way he made me think about if what I was about to eat was going to nourish my body or not. It really did put me off eating rubbish.

I'm weighing in on Monday (I weighed today and wasn't really registering much of a loss since Monday, so am gonna wait and hope!)

Today's plan;

Muesli and yoghurt
Covent Garden bean soup
ryvita and thin slice of cheese
Chicken curry, veg, small amount of rice

Wintersun · 09/01/2009 09:46

Mixedmama good luck with giving up the diet coke. The sweeteners may be contributing to your headaches too?
Sorry to bring it up but I am so anti articial sweeteners. They can be really harmful and yet we're conned into thinking its the healthy option.

SilentTerror · 09/01/2009 11:00

Tessie, yes yesterday was odd in that I missed breakfast.
Running late for school run, thought I would have it once back at 9.15 but ended up going for coffee instead!
Today, you will be delighted to hear I have had porridge with skimmed milk and honey!
Was determined to go for walk today but is freezing and depressingly damp here so have run up and down stairs 15 times so far.
Lunch will be veg soup and apple I think.
Have drunk 4 200ml glasses of water so far though!

countessofmontecristo · 09/01/2009 12:38

For some reason, I'm finding it tough today. DS has just gone up for his nap, house is tidy, ironing all up to date and I want to start EATING!! Which is what I would normally do. I'm managing to do other stuff and drinking water, but it's feeling like a struggle today.

tessieb · 09/01/2009 12:39

Hi everyone - hope you are having a good day. I'm feeling a little better, but still not eating much - just managed some dry cereal and lots of water today so far.

SilentTerror - think you are doing brilliantly! Can't wait till I have some energy to do some exercise.

Mixedmama - glad to hear you are considering giving up the diet coke as well. I started a thread about this on Tuesday and Bessie posted, linking to an article about all the junk that is in it and possible effects on the body. I'd recommend you look at that article, it's helped me to keep focussed. Can't say whether I feel better for giving up or not as still feel unwell from this vomiting virus, but I'll let you know.

Wintersun - I know what you mean about artificial sweeteners being everywhere. I love Options hot chocolate and think it's a good low-calorie chocolate fix. When I gave up the diet coke on Tuesday, I was making myself a hot chocolate, looked at the label, and yes, artificial sweeteners again!

Wintersun - I've got the Paul McKenna book and CD too, it does make a lot of sense. I used it for a few weeks last year. Just like you, found it worked (though slowly) when I listened to the CD every night, but stopped working when I didn't. However, I've used his visualisation techniques to help me stop drinking diet coke last year when I gave up for 3 weeks. Tried his visualisation technique again this week which seems to help my determination not to have any more diet coke.

Bessiebighead - where are you? We're all wanting to hear about your acrobat and clown???????

tessieb · 09/01/2009 12:40

Countess - try cleaning your teeth, then all food will taste horrible for a while anyway. Drink lots of water. Just think how slim and fit you will be soon.

countessofmontecristo · 09/01/2009 12:42

Thanks Tessieb. I will go and clean my teeth now, and pour another huge glass of water.
Thank goodness for this place.

tessieb · 09/01/2009 12:47

You know you can do it, Countess! I've an idea - while your DS is asleep you could look on the internet for some nice new clothes that you could wear when you have reached your goal weight. Sort of window shopping on the internet!

Also, there is a site called MVM.com (my virtual model). You can create a model that looks similar to you (skin tone, hair etc), put in your height and your ideal weight and see how you will look. Could be good for motivation!!!

countessofmontecristo · 09/01/2009 13:28

tessieb that's such a good site. Thanks.

Anyway, I have watched Paul McKenna that I recorded last night and have just ordered myself a new pedometer on line, as I've lost the last one.
And I've have had fun with that site you mentioned. That's great motivation actually, seeing how I look now, to how I'll look when I get to my goal weight.

tessieb · 09/01/2009 13:31

It is good fun! (I even had a look at what I would look like if I carried on putting on weight which was scarey!!!) I have printed out how I'll look at goal weight to help keep me going.

bessiebighead · 09/01/2009 13:43

Ds is finally napping! Made some lunch, and now down to posting!

Tessieb/Wintersun- You want to hear about my acrobat friend who may pay you a crazy clown visit if you go near the aspartame? Well, he's in his late 50's, plays leads in Soleil and still walks on his hands, and has a habit of doing the splits to alleviate the mood fuelled by testosterone overloaded youths in kebab shops at 3am. Amazing how quickly a clown can break up a fight... Fantastic chap. I used to be a theatre actor/performer before ds. No telly, before you ask! And you wouldn't have heard of me. Lots of slogging around tours and regional reps. Wouldn't have changed it for the world though!

SilentTerror - I see you were on the I've-got-a-million-things-to-do-so-i'm-going-to-have-to-fit-things-in-as-i-can diet yesterday morning. I should have guessed! My apols, being a non-breakfaster for a while, i thought i'd check.

Countess - hang in there!

Howdy LuckySalem! I'm doing the McKenna book/cd also. Although, i'm cheating a little as, i just happen to want to eat things that are on Rosemary Colney's kickstart diet. It's making the choice to eat those things very easy, though. I needed to reset my thinking as to 'what is healthy?'and it means that i'm eating meals i normally wouldn't think of as healthy - like pork/apple/sage homemade burgers. (I added some mint to it - and it was scrummy). That's my justification for combining the two anyway!

Nice day where i am right now, so I'll get myself ready for a long walk in time for ds to wake up. Have a good'un!

OP posts:
Wintersun · 09/01/2009 14:30

Countess I'm feeling like that now. I just want to eat. I've had my lunch and I'm not hungry.
I'm going to have a glass of water and some herbal tea or something.

We've done well so far, don't give in and undo all that hard work!

I have to keep reminding myself of my goal - 1/2 a stone off (or more!) by the end of January! Woohoo! My jeans will be loose! Yay! (you can tell I'm really needing motivation, can't you? )

tessieb · 09/01/2009 14:50

Wintersun - try the MVM.com site I recommended to Countess. It's good for motivation. Well done for having water or herbal tea instead of more food!

Bessiebighead - your crazy clown friend can keep away as I've not touched the stuff!!! Actually, he sounds lovely and amazingly fit and healthy. Wow - you did have an interesting job. Wonder if I ever saw you performing at a local theatre? Do you think you will carry on with it when your DS is older?

bananapaddlepop · 09/01/2009 14:52

everyone sounds like they are doing so well. good work all, keep it up.
i'm thinking i might have to get my coat, i love diet coke!!! argh.

Wintersun · 09/01/2009 15:43

Don't get your coat, Bananapaddlepop. I'm sure you're very welcome here with or without diet coke

I am weak. I have just had a small packet of peanuts and a bowl of muesli. I just needed to eat for no reason. I have gone over my cals for today

I think I'm going to stop having muesli for breakfast. I've noticed I do better when I have proteins or fruit to start the day.

Ambi · 09/01/2009 15:53

Good luck to everyone and their diet changing eating habits

Me, however is leaping off the wagon today and tomorrow as it's my birthday today I'll be clambering back on on Sunday, reluctantly, in a poor attempt to get back down for the weigh in on Monday

undervalued · 09/01/2009 17:18

Don't panic - it's just a blip. It is national Fall Off Your Wagon Day - you're entitled!
I have only just started mine today; first meeting of LL was last night. It is exciting to know that I will soon be losing weight and gaining back my confidence. I feel in control of my weight - first time in a while.
Keep going ladies - will weigh in on Monday.
Good luck? It's not luck though, is it?

countessofmontecristo · 09/01/2009 18:04

I'm feeling very proud of myself. Avoided the food binge cravings by looking up the site recommended by Tessieb and watching Paul Mckenna. Then when DS woke from his afternoon nap I wrapped him up in his buggy and we went for a long walk, so I'm feeling good. Oh, and I went and bought a pedometer from Argos. A bargain at £1.89. So I'm going to put that on from tomorrow and try and move more.

mixedmama · 09/01/2009 19:16

well done everyone..

i didnt stick to my plan today but have stillhad the same number of points so ok. I am at my max but know i will want a cuppa tea soon and will def need acereal bar, but it will only take me a tiny bit over and fri is normally weigh in day so normally treat myself to a take away!!! at least it is only a cereal bar.

Birthday celebrations for ds1 this weekend so going to focus on portion control and not count points... will get back to counting on monday.

waiting for dh to come home and will get on my bike.

good luck for the weekend everyone

cant resist - weigh in was 10 stone today but not counting that as a loss as my scales are really unclear and the last time i went to ww before xmas i was 10 stone so at least i stayed the same.

Wintersun · 09/01/2009 23:12

Boo. bad day for me today.

Start afresh tomorrow.

Well done to all of you doing well.
