I've been lookinf around for the big day and you lot are a motivated bunch aren't you!

I'm not going on a frenzy before 2009, but know I won't make commitment beforehand.

Is there anyone else waiting for the new year?

If so, what method are you thinking of using?

OP posts:
shinyshoes · 31/12/2008 19:05

I have the most to lose, judging by what everyones posted .

Can I join, is everyone following one particular diet or weightloss programme or does eveyone just spur eachother along?

mixedmama · 01/01/2009 10:44

shiny - we are all doing it our own way and sharing tips etc and hopefully will help motivate each other.

do we know each other from a ww thread?

cheekysealion · 01/01/2009 10:54

I am still here.... HI all....

i have gone from 17.5 (my heaviest) I am currenly 14.4 i am so pleased... but i worry about gaining it back as i love food and i am a bit addicted to it... so need to break the cycle as well as lose the weight...

Wintersun · 01/01/2009 12:04

Thats brilliant Cheekysealion!

I am too scared to stand on the scales as I'm sure I've put on loads of weight in the last month!

I have decided that I'm going to do the Little Black Dress Diet.

It claims that you can lose 10lbs in 10 days which would be lovely

Just off to draw up the shopping list....

bessiebighead · 01/01/2009 14:01

Happy New Year All!

Hello LittleChristmasCracker!

Hello shinyshoes! If you have the most to lose, then you're also going to see the most dramatic changes and be able to to see obvious results sooner! What are you thinking of with programme/diet?

I've been curious about the [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Can-Make-You-Thin-New/dp/059306092X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=12308166 04&sr=8-1 Paul Mckenna book]]; i've put a reserve on that in the library - and i'm waiting for that to come in next week. I noticed there were threads on the book/cd a couple of months back. I want to change my relationship to food rather than follow a diet, so i'm hoping it will speed up the process for change. I think it tackles food addiction and emotional eating, so it may be good for you too cheekysealion? In the meantime/today! the kickstart is fine.

Have you got a dress in mind Wintersun? What's it like/will it be like? 10lb is a lot to lose in a week and a half! There's a good argument for a short, sharp, shock to boost morale. Is it as drastic after the intial period?

OP posts:
bessiebighead · 01/01/2009 14:04

that'll be me not previewing my post
err...

Isn't Paul McKenna doing a TV show called 'I can make you thin', starting on Monday? I don't know which channel it's on but will check it out and watch it.

mixedmama · 01/01/2009 14:39

oh countess would like to watch that.

'I can make you thin' is on Living on Monday at 8pm.

tibni · 01/01/2009 15:00

I would like to join too please. Lost just short of 2 stone after summer holiday but then had a bad viral illness and not only had to stop gym but used it as an excuse to eat crap.

I have about half a stone to shift. I have started back at the gym this week and my loss of fitness is shocking. Would really appreciate support and kick up bum if I slack!

Wintersun · 01/01/2009 15:01

Not exactly a little black dress in mind, BBH, but I do have a wedding to attend in March so it would be nice to fit into ANY littleish dress
I'm doing it as a kick start and then I'll go onto a calorie controlled diet and use the foodfocus website.
I would love to lose 1.5 stones by the wedding.
Its 12 weeks away so I should be able to do it.

The LB diet doesn't look too drastic after day 3. It seems quite doable.

Riven, complex carbs are good. You'll probably need to watch portions though. Are you thinking of a low gi type diet?
Sorry to hear you've lost mobility. Is it through illness?

Wintersun · 01/01/2009 15:07

Don't forget that to maximise your weight loss make sure you get plenty of sleep and drink lots of water

(I know I'm guilty of slacking on both. I am aiming to go to bed at 10.30 instead of 12!)

Countingtheflocksbynight · 01/01/2009 15:40

I would like to join too please

Have 2 stone to lose and also need to do something about flabbiness. Have started a healthy eating plan today ....

Someone on another thread put me on to www.foodfocus.co.uk and they have some excellent tools on there to help with goal setting etc

Good luck everyone and happy New Year!

kdk · 01/01/2009 16:04

Can I join too.

Only need to lose just over a stone but severely demotivated as I lost loads using SW but then stopped smoking and have put on just over a stone again and now finding it really hard to get myself going again.

Can't really afford the gym but have got the loan of a WII fit and may try to do the odd yoga class if I can.

Wish everybody (including myself!) luck and a Happy New Year

MissisBoot · 01/01/2009 16:05

I need to join too. Have put on weight over the six months and would like to shift 1.5 stones.

I think I might have a go at that kickstart diet then log my food on food focus.

Am starting on Monday.

juuule · 01/01/2009 16:52

I'll join in too, if nobody minds.
3 stone to lose here.

shinyshoes · 01/01/2009 22:37

Mixed Mama- I don't think we do no, I have done WW before but not for a couple of years.

I was hoping to do WW again as I've done most and found thisd the easiest to follow.

I got some vouchers the other day, free registration, free cookbook when you pay for 1 month etc, but what I was thinking of doing is going to the meeting and buying all the latest books (mine are a bit old) and then do it online.
I know I know I'd probably benefit more and stick wth it better if I went to meetings but I have 2 jobs (one of the shifts) and 3 children to juggle so itsa bit of a mare to try and find a class I can attend regularly.

Enough about me anyway.

Did anyone start today?? Alas I went to a relatives for a meal and it wasn't calorie friendly, so mine will start tomorrow. I will healthy eat until I get all my books.

Wintersun · 02/01/2009 10:26

Is anyone else starting today?

I stood on the dreaded scales and weighed in at 10.13 !Argh. I was 10.7 in November. How depressing but my own doing entirely.

I am going shopping this morning and buying all the stuff I need for the first 5 days.
Its going to be hard but its only 10 days and I've no plans for going out so I should be able to do it.

Shineyshoes did you start today? I did ww for a while last year and found the online site much more helpful than the meetings. The meetings, apart from the actual weigh-in, seemed to be more about pushing ww products at you which I found really annoying.

MissisBoot · 02/01/2009 11:01

I'm breaking in gently this weekend with healthy options then starting for good on Monday.

Bfast is yoghurt and tea
Snack - apple
Lunch - rice cakes/philidelphia & grapes
Dinner - curry (homemade so not too fatty)
Will also have a glass of wine with it.

My jeans are tight tight tight today - not helped by the fact that I managed to shrink them before xmas!

I did weightwatchers online and meetings and found the meetings worked best for me as it was the process of actually handing over hard cash which kept me focussed.

mixedmama · 02/01/2009 11:12

I was very please yesterday as I managed to do warm up and workout from my Strictly DVD and 3 workouts from my Lilia (I enjoy dancing).

HOWEVER

Then I ate burger and chips, crisps, chocolates and muller yoghurt

Taking solace in the fact that I start for real on Monday - at the moment I am startign the day off well but then failing miserably by snacking in the evening.

Hope everyone is on track today.

bessiebighead · 02/01/2009 12:20

Day Two, for me, and even keel so far on the foodie front.

Dh insisted on opening and eating half a box of chocs in front of me... he said he 'wanted to test my resolve'... er... right.

I realised at 4pm that i hadn't done my long walk for the day. i looked outside and it was practically evening already with the street lamps on. Pleasant enough walk though, as had a chance to greet passers-by with a 'happy new year', and stop by the playground with ds for a 'night' swing.

Today i'll make sure i get out straight after ds' midday nap.

Hello to Riven, tibny, Countingtheflocksbynight, kdk, MissisBoot, and juuule!

Wii Fit kdk. Good on you for quitting the smokes! That's brilliant.

Would love to know about the Paul McKenna show, Countess, as i only have terrestrial.

I can't do much about the sleep unfortunately, but Must drink more water, i sometimes mistake thirst for hunger, thanks for the reminder, Wintersun.

The Strictly dvd sounds like a lot of fun, mixedmama. Do they set routines? I'm shocking at following routines - so i think i need lots of practice, but at a beginner level.

shrinking your jeans MissisBoot! That's an incentive.

Countingtheflocksbynight · 02/01/2009 14:48

Thank you for the welcome BigBessie - much appreciated

I'm also busting out of my jeans ...and my bras are starting to feel constricting too

about your dh and the chocolates though!! Testing your resolve indeed!! I would make him endure a fortnight of postage stamp-sized portions of lightly steamed fish and juiced wheat grass for that

I did really well yesterday but must have been on slightly too severe a regime because I woke up at 4am ravenously hungry, and "had" to go downstairs and make myself a ham sandwich (at least it was without butter)

Being unrealistic has been my downfall in the past so must try and get a better balance this time ..

Like you, I'm trying to drink more water although am finding harder in the winter ...

my sister forwarded this to me though and I might try it:

Recipe for Sassy water

Devised by nutrition director Cynthia Sassy, the ingredients in her water aren't just for flavour: the ginger will help to calm and soothe your GI tract. You can also drink 100 per cent pure herbal teas such as camomile.

SASSY WATER
2 litres/3½ pints water
1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
1 medium cucumber, peeled and thinly sliced
1 medium lemon, thinly sliced
12 mint leaves

Combine all ingredients in a large jug, chill in the refrigerator and let the flavours blend overnight.

Good luck to you and everyone else on this thread ...
