I've been lookinf around for the big day and you lot are a motivated bunch aren't you!

I'm not going on a frenzy before 2009, but know I won't make commitment beforehand.

Is there anyone else waiting for the new year?

If so, what method are you thinking of using?

Just popping in briefly. Thanks so much for the support, ladies. Still feeling sluggish and have eaten loads of crap today, but went to the gym yesterday and have booked an aerobics class for tomorrow morning and a circuit class for Sat morning (paid for, so I have go now! )...so hopefully I'll be back on track and feeling alive again some time soon. Going to go on a strict detox diet again on Monday for a week. I did this at the beginning of Jan and it kick started me a bit. Sending positive slimness vibes to all

Wintersun · 06/02/2009 08:22

Countess Good luck with weigh in!

Polly sorry to hear about your fall. Glad to hear you and pfb are ok!
It really is terrible out there. I had to go to the drs yesterday and it was awful trying to walk from the car to the surgery carrying a baby and helping a 3 year old.

MrsMattie well done for keeping the exercise up! Circuit classes are a killer! I'm sure you'll love it.

Thankfully, we spent most of the day out yesterday as today looks like another grim day! The boys were really getting fed up staying in (me too. bored and tempted to eat!)
Fed up of this weather.

Have been ok with food for the last few days but haven't been able to do much exercise. A combination of disturbed nights, hibernation instincts and laziness are the reason!

I don't know what to cook today due to the lack of shopping. I've got enough stuff in for meals but just can't think what to do with it.

Good luck for today everyone!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 06/02/2009 09:01

DS2 now has chicken pox so am stuck in for another week...

Am going to attempt a little experiment and eat as i please (still try to be good, rather than eating rubbish) but not point counting or anything, but really going to up the ante on exercise and see whether i cans till lose weight.

countesscaloriecounter · 06/02/2009 09:51

Well, only lost 1 lb this week which although I know it's a loss it's a bit disappointing, but a step in the right direction I suppose.

G'Morning!

Great going with the exercising MrsMattie!

Glad you were able to get out yesterday, WinterSun. It must make a huge difference to the dc also. I ended up going out too, as was crawling the walls, but starting to really miss long walks as i haven't done a decent one this week. I'm sure the menu inspiration fairy will zap you soon enough!

NO! Mixedmama! Well. I guess, now is as good a time as any for it to happen, as there's not much joy to be had outside. And i hope your experiment goes brilliantly for you. It sounds like a habit change rather than a diet, which can only be a good thing for the long term!

Congratulations Countess, 1lb is nothing to sniff at! Especially at this 'orrible time of the year!

Going to do a yoga video today and hopefully it will sort out my back aches and pains and various other old lady complaints that i seem to have woken up with!!! Thinking about banana on a beach...

Countingthegreyhairs · 06/02/2009 13:48

Yay Countess! A lb IS good!!! Esp when dc aren't at school ...

Well done Polly and Mrs Mattie for exercising and keeping going

Sorry your ds is poorly Mixed Mama - I hope he has it mildly and gets better soon

Tessie B and LisaLessLumpy - great!!! - look forward to "starting" with you again on 25th but in the meantime am really going to try and cut down on portions and up the activity levels and water intake - it'll be much easier to hit the ground "running" if we keep adjusting downwards now ... (and Lisa I looked in the mirror this morning and I am definitely starting to resemble the ladies in your first photo!!! - I can't help smiling when I see it though because they all seem really happy with themselves ....)

Wintersun - I think it's the Catholic guilt in me that I actually feel better "confessing" my weight and posting it here even when I've failed ... it gives me the required kick up the bum .... knowing that I am going to have to "confess" again next week. It's terribly difficult though when you are stuck indoors with dc and no opportunity to shop. Hope you manage to get out soon!!

Believe it or not, there's a bit of sunshine in the air here (we had our snow a couple of wks ago) and I can't tell you what a difference it makes ...I just ran out the door in my cardigan (no coat) and jogging bottoms and walked for 50 mins ... ah ... it didn't even feel like I was making an effort ....could it be ... could it be ....spring ....honestly things will get easier soon everyone!!

Have a cracking w/e!! And hello to anyone I've missed ....

LisaLessLumpy · 07/02/2009 07:57

I have lost 1lb too. I'm happy it is a pound less but on the other hand I have been so good all week I was hoping for more Hopefully if I am good this week too it will show up more next week.

Er, I haven;t lost any weight this week, not sure why because I've been quite good really, apart from one day. Now am sick with a tummy bug so the up side to that is I must lose something next week.
I've joined the Bootsdiet website because I find it really good to see everyday how much I've eaten ( or not).

PollyGarter · 07/02/2009 11:19

all this non shifting makes me wonder whether our bodies/minds are hardwired not to lose weight at this time of year???

hope you're feeling better soon whyme2.

good on ya Lisa!

my thinking is, if i weren't doing this, more than likely, i would be putting weight on and getting further into trouble with cakes and masses of potatoes and pasta - don't feel bad about small losses, remember how much even a quarter of a pound is in a slab of butter, and give yourself some praise for treating yourself right.

so good to hear about the first signs of spring, Counting.

out today with mil.
so have a good day everyone, and treat yourselves gently!

countesscaloriecounter · 07/02/2009 11:37

I'm on the bootsdiets website as well Whyme2 and find it really good. I like the fact you have to fill in each time you have a glass of water. It certainly makes me realise how little water I actually drink in a day! Naughty me.

Lisa, like others have said to me 1lb is still a loss. Go get something that weighs a lb and it'll make you feel happy.

wheesht · 07/02/2009 12:13

Hello

You are all doing great! Finally lost some thank goodness. Down 3 lbs now which am pleased about but has taken me quite a few weeks to get my mind around being serious about losing weight. Feel very motivated now but need to get an exercise routine put in place.

Hi Countess Was meant to be out this morning. All got ready, jumped in car and after driving for 200 yds realised something was wrong. Tyre as flat as a pancake, if not flatter So stranded now.

Well done on the weight loss Wheesht.

You've lost it all before so I know you'll get there. There is no one I know more focused than you once you set your mind to it.

undervalued · 07/02/2009 13:05

Blimey, this dieting malarkey is hard going on cold winter days!! Well done to all of you for the losses - 1lb is still a move in the right direction!!
I'm getting close to being a normal weight like most of you ladies, I've had to chuck out all of my size 18s and a lot of my 16s as they drown me I'm that really odd size where 16s are too big and 14s are still too tight for comfort. I think I'll wait to buy new clothes and manage with the few I have left.

Have a good week! Remember, there is no food you are not allowed, you are choosing not to eat it.

countesscaloriecounter · 07/02/2009 13:42

Undervalued can I just say you are doing amazingly well. Have I added it up correctly and worked out that you're not far off the 2 stone loss mark? I bet that feels brilliant.
Good news about the clothes as well.

undervalued · 07/02/2009 14:00

Thankyou countess - I feel, for the first time in about 6 years, human. I feel my confidence coming back and am treating myself in little ways, painting my nails, buying make-up and creams etc.
You're right - I have lost 24lbs!!-in 5 weeks!! I sill have a way to go but I am so proud of myself and people are treating me differently. It's amazing, I haven't cheated once, and the no eating thing is really hard sometimes. Very few people in my family have noticed - I can't believe I hid 2 stone that well... Thanks again

Wintersun · 07/02/2009 14:21

Wow! Undervalued thats brilliant!

Lisa, Countess and Wheesht well done all of you on your losses!

I weighed in this am and have gained 1lb. I knew I had gained last week (I think prob 2lb) and was hoping that it would come off this week but I've literally hardly moved this week. I've stayed in most days and when I did go out, it was in the car. I tried to eat well so I think the lb loss was from that.

I went to the gym this morning and signed up for their Weight Management thingy. An instructor took a note of my weight and measurements of waist, hips, thighs and upper arms and will take them again in 2 weeks. I'm sure this will keep me on the straight and narrow!

She told me that weight loss was 20% exercise and 80%diet. She also said to buy a bag of apples and everytime you feel like snacking, eat half an apple.
She recommended Gillian Mckeiths (sp?) book. I might look at her website but I don't think I'd buy her book. Her recipes seem boring to me but I'll check it out.

Good luck for the weekend everyone. Be good and lets start those crunches again!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 07/02/2009 14:25

Wow 2 stone well done.

I am much more focussed today. Havr eaten fairly well:

Wholemeal pitta
2tbsp low fat humus
tomatoes

2 grilled turkey rashers
1 quorn sausage
2 boiled eggs (whites only as I dont like the yoke)
2tbp baked beans

Coffee and cereal bar

Have about a quarter of swiss roll in the cupboard which is a huge weakness I LOVE swiss roll with a crazy amount of passion.

Jumped on my exercise bike twice yesterday when i was just lying around.

Well done and good luck all.

MrsMattie · 07/02/2009 14:47

Just sticking my head in quickly to say 'hi' . Will pop back in tomorrow and read up on =how you;rw all doing and reply, promise!

I went to the gym yesterday, plus ate really well. However, I did my back in , so had to cancel my circuit class today, grrrrrr. Crosisng my fingers I'll be recoverd for exercise class on Monday. Really annoyiong, as I am feeling lethargic and lardy

Today's food:

Breakfast: 2 slices wholemeal toast + tea
Morning: homemade smoothie
Lunch: sweet potato & roasted veg w/ cous cous + fruit salad + water
Afternoon: coffee w/ skimmed milk

Dinner tonight is going to be chicken tagine, rice & salad plus fruit and maybe a square or two of dark choc with my evening cuppa.

I've resisted cookies, carrot cake and chocolate today quite easily. Hope I can keep it up!

wheesht · 07/02/2009 16:27

Thanks wintersun . Well done on signing up at the gym! It will be a real incentive for you.

Ouch, mrsmattie. Hope your back isn't too badly hurt...

Managed to do the 'Pump it Up' Ministry of Sound DVD. Nearly had a heart attack in the process but felt extremely virtuous afterwards Could heat the entire street with my face though.

Countingthegreyhairs · 07/02/2009 17:21

Hope you feel better soon Whyme and congratulations Undervalued - 24lbs in 5 weeks is really impressive - hello to everyone else

Still feel as though I am sliding overall but have determinedly stuck to the home-made veg soup today at least

Just read some interesting tips about how to distinguish between 'real' and 'emotional' hunger (apparently identified by US researchers)

  1. Real hunger is felt below the neck (growling stomach) - emotional hunger is felt about the neck (a craving for ice cream)
  1. When only a certain food like pizza or chocolate will meet your need, your hunger is born of emotion. When your body really needs fuel, you are more open to other options.
  1. Emotional hunger wants to be satisfied instantly, physical hunger can wait (not sure about this one personally !!!)
  1. Emotional hunger leaves guilt in its wake. Physical hunger doesn't.

Hope everyone manages to stick to their objectives during the w/e!

wheesht · 07/02/2009 17:23

That's interesting. Also read that physical hunger grows gradually, not appearing instantly like emotional hunger.

Talking of which, I am flippin starving!

Physically, not emotionally tho I'm happy to say

Countingthegreyhairs · 07/02/2009 17:34

lol Wheest - congrats on your 3lbs loss too

I also have dh's "emotional eating" to contend with but in reverse - ie he loves cooking, particularly when v. stressed, and how happy he is seems directly related to how much of his cooking I eat!!

No one but me is responsible for putting that fork of food in my mouth though ...

wheesht · 07/02/2009 18:17

Would you call that 'inverted emotional eating' then?

Wish my dh would eat when stressed. I'd never need to cook again

wheesht · 07/02/2009 18:17

Ooops meant 'cook' when stressed...

Countingthegreyhairs · 07/02/2009 20:22

lol, I know I'm a spoilt cow to complain ... ... most of my friends are extremely envious and keep trying to enter him for Masterchef (but he refuses on the grounds that he couldn't stand having to generate fake emotion about wanting to change his life and having a "passion" for mung beans or smoked tuna or whatever it is the producers insist upon ...) !!!

Tis hard on my waistline though ... ... or should say, what used to be my waistline and is now an over-inflated rugby ball ...

Succumbed to baguette and stilton with my soup this evening and am now dreading Monday's weigh in ...

Hope everyone else has more discipline than me!!
