I've been lookinf around for the big day and you lot are a motivated bunch aren't you!

I'm not going on a frenzy before 2009, but know I won't make commitment beforehand.

Is there anyone else waiting for the new year?

If so, what method are you thinking of using?

Hey Food focus is up again!

MrsMattie · 03/02/2009 15:56

Hey all. Help me. I need some motivation. I feel so rundown and tired this week. Haven't managed to get out the door to exercise in this heavy snow and with ill DD (11 wks) and DS (4 yrs old - off nursery) and ill DH, i seem to be caught in a trap of endless housework, cups of tea, no energy etc etc. I have been eating poorly and feel the weight creeping back on even in the last few days . I ate a whole packet of choc biccies last night , and I am eyeing up the wine already.

Sorry for such a me, me, me post

LisaLessLumpy · 03/02/2009 16:52

MrsMattie - It is a tough time at the moment with the weather/illness etc, but in 8 weeks the clocks are going forward, you could easily be a stone lighter by then, just in time for the lovely spring weather.

Would you rather have the wine or a nice slim figure for the summer?

Rememeber Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels

Now forget the choccy biscuits, (I have had one choc chip cookie today and I am fighting the urget to eat another and another and another... I have just had an apple and am now going to get another cup of tea ) and carry on being good, you could claw it all back this week if you try, you really don't want to get on the slippery slope to being 13st 6 again do you? DO YOU? You have done so well already remember that and just think of how good you will feel once you have lost another stone.

Am I helping in any way?

Do you want to be like this or more like this

Wintersun · 03/02/2009 16:55

Mrsmattie don't eat junk. The more crap you eat, the less energy you'll have and so less motivation.

It sounds like a difficult and stressful time.

You need to look after yourself and have nourishing foods like soups, fruit and decent meals. If you want to eat crap as well, then go ahead but I bet you won't need to as much.

Can you take time out for yourself? A relaxing bath? Reading? Listen to some of your favourite tunes to uplift you.

Wintersun · 03/02/2009 16:56

Lol! Love those pics, Lisa!

Wintersun · 03/02/2009 17:00

You can exercise at home. Do a dvd or go up and down your stairs a few times.
Its getting dark now but do try and go for a walk tomorrow. Some fresh air works wonders.

SilentTerror · 03/02/2009 17:49

Hello all.
Wenrt for walkin the snow yesterday, although not t hat much here in Cheshire.
Took advice re running up and down stairs today, but DH,DD1 and I went out for lunch
Homemade spag Bol for dinner,so will have a small portion!
Will take on board comment re wine, and instead think about being slimmer in a few weeks.

countesscaloriecounter · 03/02/2009 17:58

Hello all

MrsMattie I'm sorry you're having such a bad time of it. If those pictures Lisa posted don't cause you ( and the rest of us) to put down the choccie biccies, then nothing will . Thanks for the pics Lisa. Very funny.

I seem to struggle once I've done the weight in. Perversley (sp?), I stuff up when I know I've done well and lost weight. It's like a green light for me to go and eat crap, which totally defeats the object of feeling so good because of the weight I've lost. Weird eh.

And I'm with you guys on the wine thing. Had a couple of stressful days with DS teething, and the 2 foster boys off school due to the weather and doing nothing but their stroppy 'Kevin the teenager' routine. So a huge glass of wine looks very appealing at the moment.I will resist though ( hopefully).

LisaLessLumpy · 03/02/2009 19:53

Today

B - 4 slices nimble toast and 2 scrambled eggs with a little bit of brown sauce.
L - 1 kiwi fruit, 1 slice wholemeal toast and flora light, apple.
D - 5oz piece of sirloin steak and salad, 2 chips off DH's plate.
S - 4 crisps, 3 choc buttons, 1 choc chip cookie, few mouthfuls of the boys cottage pie

Those snacks above are what I need to cut out of my daily diet. If I wasn't being so good elsewhere if I mounted up the odd mouthfuls that will be the reason I don't lose weight. It sucks having a metabolism that is so used to eating so few calories I really need to do the exercise I just find it hard to motivate myself.

PollyGarter · 03/02/2009 20:17

ROFL at Lisa's post! The whole post was really motivating for me.

Thanks for that!

The Personal life media podcasts are really motivational. If you think you're going to go for something you you shouldn't, listen to one of these instead!

Pmk talks about will power alone not being enough to lose weight, And insists on imagination being the best and most powerful tool to make losing weight possible, and more than that, easy and enjoyable. It's working to some extent for me, as i no longer eat unless i'm hungry. HUUUGE turn around for me.

Need to be a chef now...

Wintersun · 03/02/2009 20:21

Polly,are those podcasts free?

Sorry, am being too lazy/time constrained to read through all the info.

PollyGarter · 03/02/2009 22:07

Yes, they're free. Makes it much more enjoyable

mixedmamameansbusiness · 04/02/2009 09:24

Morning all,

Havent managed to read everything but I see the snow has encouraged some of us to be a little slack - me included.... altho in my case more than a little slack. DH has not helped buying lots of cakes and comfort food for the cold weather. Have also just ben so bad since ds1 has been ill.... am starting again today.

Havent planned but can second wintersun in that when i plan everything works much better.

Polly - me thinks it is not strolling weather at the minute, but once we have no more ice.. definitely get on with it.

PollyGarter · 04/02/2009 10:28

I agree mixedmama, let's wait for fairer weather. i was walking home yesterday, trying to push the buggy uphill and it was an absolute mare as i kept slipping. But one good thing, i discovered the virtues of longjohns.

Countingthegreyhairs · 04/02/2009 15:33

Lovely phrase that Polly "...the virtue of Long Johns" ... I think it could be a book title ....

Hi everyone, first opportunity to update: and I've PUT ON weight ...

I've gone from 74.4 back to 75.2 kgs...

not remotely suprised ... like you Mrs Mattie have found it very tough going recently ...haven't really had a "normal" wk since Christmas owing to dd illness, dh illness, snow, long work hrs (dh and me) ... and I've just emerged from 1.5 days in bed feeling yuck ...

so don't worry Mrs Mattie ...we will get back on top of things ... it's just a really tough time of year ...

I'm treating this period between now and Feb 25th as a "wind down" in terms of diet and a "wind up" in terms of activity ...

then from Feb 25th on (start of Lent) I'm going to follow a much stricter regime

The reason I'm boring you all with this is that - I think anyway - our forefathers knew a thing or two about what time of year is best for dieting ... I always find it easiest to diet at Lent rather than say in Jan or November ...

So don't despair everyone ... we will get there!!!

tessieb · 04/02/2009 18:17

Countingthegreyhairs, I think starting afresh on Feb 25th is a brilliant idea. I'm not doing well at all and feel this year so far has been one thing after another! I've had two bouts of illness (still can't shift this cold) which has disrupted exercise plans, the cold snowy weather, dark mornings and evenings, being busy at work (though that won't change!) and just generally felt fed-up! Think in winter it's just so tempting to go into hibernation mode and comfort eat.

The start of Lent means spring (and hopefully nicer weather)is on it's way. Think I'll just continue plodding along for now, trying to eat healthily and get exercise when I can, then really go for it from the 25th.

Polly, sounds like PMK is really starting to work for you. Do you feel like you are losing weight?

Take care everyone.

LisaLessLumpy · 04/02/2009 18:39

I know how you feel, I have had two colds and a week of sore throats since Xmas Eve I have done no exercise of any consequence since last October. I may plod on till Feb 25th too and then go for it on the exercise front

mixedmamameansbusiness · 04/02/2009 18:47

agree with everything that has been said.. great idea to try to up the ante on the activity front to fight back against any comfort eating.... the thing is i am genuinely sometimes feeling realllyy hungrfy now.

tessieb · 04/02/2009 20:05

Mixedmama, I've been feeling really hungry too, think it must be the cold weather. I suppose our bodies are trying to hold onto any extra padding/fat to help us keep warm! Maybe that's why it's difficult to lose weight in the middle of winter....

Lisa, hope you're feeling better now. Think once you get some illness, your immunity is lowered and it's easy to catch something else! I've started taking vitamins to try to boost my immune system. Hope you're fighting fit soon.

Wintersun · 04/02/2009 20:22

The cold and lots of darkness are definitely a hinderance when it comes to losing weight. I think we're all doing the best we can and trying to keep things under control.

Counting, I think I've pout on weight which is why I didn't weigh in last week. I find it really demotivating and depressing when that happens so its better that I don't know and try to make it up for the next week.

We can try having lots of home made soups, stews and casseroles. They tend to be healthy as well as comforting.

Keep drinking water too.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 05/02/2009 08:30

morning ladies...

no work today so am at home with the kids and there isnt really anything interesting in the cupboards so am going to have to try really hard to keep to it all today.

weirdly i find that when i weigh in and i have put on it really motivates me more for the next week... i am quite strange in that reaction i think.

i think we may be having pizza tonight as i havent been to the butchers and it is still icy and i dont fancy venturing out with the kids.... need to get back to planning properly.

am going to look for that 3 day diet that was posted by wintersun???? and when i get to the shops get all the stuff in.

LisaLessLumpy · 05/02/2009 08:43

Morning.

Another day in here too, its usually the day I have to myself with both boys at nursery till 3pm but the roads are too bad for me to attempt driving them in. I too don't have much food in so will have to try and be creative today

I am hoping to get out with the boys when the snow stops and make a snowman so that will be a bit of exercise and will keep me out the kitchen

Wintersun · 05/02/2009 09:20

I started the 3 day diet yesterday but I still haven't made it too the shops so haven't been able to do it exactly. I have tried to stick to it as much as I can though.

Its thawing out today so I'm hoping to make it down to Tesco's.

I read a few reviews on Ciao for it and they seem to be really positive and I know my friend thinks its great. I'm hopeful!

countesscaloriecounter · 05/02/2009 09:30

Hi everyone

I am so sick of the snow now.The kids are off again today. 3rd day off this week! I am finding it hard to stay focused on eating right when I've got them around moaning and groaning.

Weigh in tomorrow though so I must try and keep it together and not let myself down today. I have a feeling I've not lost anything but we shall see.....

Keep warm and wrapped up everyone.

PollyGarter · 05/02/2009 13:30

All this central heating is making me sleepy!

Going a little stir crazy today - don't want to chance going out today as slipped on the ice after putting the pfb in the car. just glad i wasn't carrying him at the time. But i think i need to get out for my sanity. We'll see...

Remember to keep up your protein, water and vitamins and cravings should hopefully stay at bay!
