I've been lookinf around for the big day and you lot are a motivated bunch aren't you!

I'm not going on a frenzy before 2009, but know I won't make commitment beforehand.

Is there anyone else waiting for the new year?

If so, what method are you thinking of using?

Mixedmama, that was a really rotten thing for your friend's SIL to say! Anyway, you are doing brilliantly and not too far from goal now. By the way, you weren't waffling in your last post at all. It's interesting reading about what has motivated people to lose weight and how it has been achieved, so any life stories welcome! I'm the same height as you and after Christmas the same starting weight. Looking forward to being 10 stone something, like you.

Countess, it is just so easy to put on weight isn't it? It just creeps up on you, well that's what's happened to me. I've put on almost 2 stone in the last 2 years, gaining most these last 12 months. I think it's happened partly due to starting a new job which is more time-consuming and stressful than what I was doing before. After a tiring day at work, I would just be nibbling whatever treats I could (even stopping at the shop on the way home for a large bar of chocolate and scoffing the lot! ) before getting tea ready. I'm much better now, only having occassional treats but the weight seems slow to shift!

Banana, hope your cold goes soon. Horrible things! Think you may have passed it on to me as I'm coming down with one now.

I'm getting weighed in the morning and will let you know how I go on.

bananapaddlepop · 24/01/2009 16:07

Mized mama -some people are just so rude..

I'm feeling better this afternoon - nice long power walk with dd shrieking away in the buggy so I might skip Davina tonight. Rotten luck Tessie B. Hope you feel better.

I spent all last year trying to get pregnant and so I stupidly thought oh I can eat what I like, I'll be fat anyway. Cut to now, 12 months down the track and still not pregnant. I realised that before I go to the GP to start some fertility treatments etc I had better lose some flab and get healthy. Such an idiotic way of thinking I know. I also love cooking and just discovered baking last year so was forever whipping up cakes and lovely desserts to have.

Anyway, I've rambled on. Good luck for tomorrow Tessie. xx

mixedmamameansbusiness · 24/01/2009 16:41

Yeah i just felt like running off down the street and screaming... having said that she done me a favour as if she hadnt said that i might still be faffing around and her comment was the flick of the switch that made me join WW.

It does really creep up without you noticing.

Feeling good today... DS1 has chicken pox (discovered this morning) so not sure how much exercise i will get in with teething baby and chicken pox toddler... and being at home with all food at my disposla is not so good either.

countesscaloriecounter · 24/01/2009 17:28

I would also find excuses not to start dieting, such as a party in a few weeks; a meal out that was planned in advance, so it would be silly to start the diet before those! So while I procrastinated more weight got put on.

LisaLessLumpy · 24/01/2009 17:29

I started my diet in Jan 08 after having my 2nd DS.

My first pregnancy I was 13 and a half stone after I gave birth, it took me a year but I lost all my pregnancy weight and got back to 11st (still too much for my height but I felt good and it was easy to keep around that) my tummy was practically flat again.

2nd pregnancy I was adamant I wouldn't put on as much, but only 7lb less than the first time.
3 months after giving birth I hadn't lost anymore weight and was 13st 1lb, so I thought right... Jan 1st I will do it. So last year I lost 2 stone and got back to 11st again but this time my tummy has stayed with me and is horrid so I reckon I need to lose at least an extra stone to be happy with my body as it was after losing it after the 1st pregnancy. Follow me so far?

Anyhoo after a couple of colds and Xmas since the middle of Oct 08 I put 10lb back on Hence starting again on Jan 1st. So as from this week I would like to lose the last 5lb to take me back to 11st where I started and then a further 7lb and see how I feel after that

If I go any lower than that I'll have to buy a new wardrobe again and I can't afford it this year

MrsMattie · 24/01/2009 20:14

Evening all. More and more people joining. Great!

Had a good day today. Went to the gym this morning for an hour and a half, and for a walk in the park with the kids this afternoon. Have eaten:

Breakfast - porridge with banana & blueberries + cup of hot water with lemon

Lunch - Butternut squash & sweet potato soup + 2 slices wholemeal toast

Dinner: Roast chicken, roast potatoes, broccolli, mange tout, sugarsnap peas, cauliflower & corn on the cob + baked apple with fat free creme fraiche + 1 glass white ine

Had green tea and water throughout the day

Feeling virtuous, although could murder some chocolate

whyme2 · 24/01/2009 23:09

The reason I want to lose weight is becasue I worry about my two DD's eveloping bad habits around food. The older one really likes fruit etc and is very active but the 2nd is naturally less energetic and also has a fondness for toast, crisps etc. I just suddenly felt so bad for setting them a rubbish example with my eating habits.
My baby is nearly 6mths now so I want to be a fit healthy mummy.

Wintersun · 25/01/2009 08:32

Mixedmama what a horrible thing for your friends sil to have said!

I saw some family friends about 4 months after I had ds2 and one lady's comment was 'Wintersun! Oh my God ! You look so...so...so... er different!' At least she tried to cover up her initial shock at how much weight I'd put on but I knew what she meant.

So, I decided to do something about it. I'd never been fat before I'd had children and it was something I didn't like being. I've lost 2 stone so far and would like to lose another stone, ideally 1.5 stones. At 5'2, a stone overweight looks like loads more!

I'm finding it quite difficult now. Maybe its because I'm older or I'm just fed up of dieting.

Went to the gym yesterday and had big meal with family. Back on track today.

fruit, yoghurt
lunch out at friends
grilled chicken and veg or soup depending on what lunch was!

DH and ds2 both have colds so may be quite a draining day for me today!

Good luck with today everyone!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 25/01/2009 10:28

wintersun... i think we are much the same height wise and in terms of how much we would like to lose. I am aiming for 9st 7 by 21st Feb (DS1 bday) and then 9 stone and ultimately would like to get to 8st 7 which is my start weight before i put on anything.

You know to top it all off that lady hadnt seen me since i was 18 or something about 10 yrs ago and it was 2 months after i had DS2.

admirable about improving your childrens attitude to food. that is a great reason.

messed up again last night, dh brought boryani from his mums and bday cake as it was his sisters bday and i ate a little of the rice, then proceeded to eat ALL the cake he brought home.

Got to get back up and do it today.

Not sure what i am eating today but have had crumpets and tea so far.

tessieb · 25/01/2009 11:20

Morning all!

Just got weighed and I'm exactly the same as last week. I'm not too disappointed as I've not had such a good week. In fact, I'm relieved I've not put any back on! I really do need to get back on track. I'm only 5'2 as well and, Wintersun, you are right - for us shorter people being overweight really shows.

When I look back at photos of myself in my teens and early twenties (weighing around 8 to 8.5 stone) I can't believe how slim I was. Even a couple of years ago when I weighed around 10 stone it is so different to how I look and feel now at 11st 8!!! I just want to feel fit, slim and full of energy. I want to be able to wear a size 10 comfortably (instead of squeezing into a 14!). Problem is, it's just so hard to lose it.

I've got the Paul McKenna book and CD and am going to try using it. I'm no good at restrictive diets (just want to eat more) and I want to be slim for life and develop a good balanced attitude to food and exercise.

PollyGarter · 25/01/2009 14:15

I'm catching up after a couple of days offline. So please forgive if i'm a little behind with responding! (Ah a little behind would be nice... I've an attack of crp jokes at the moment)

Do you think it's unlikely the food focus site will be up again? 'Bandwidth exceeded limit' sounds a little unpromising, eh?

MABS, my thoughts are with you and your ds. Just get through this time as and how you need to and look after yourself as best you can.

Countess hope you and your tribe had a great time a PH. Ah. Hooray for the salad bar... (to go along with everything else!)

Nice to see you at any time undervalued.

Hey tessieb, Chinese food is a major weakness of mine. If you live anywhere near London,Pingpong do a set menu that is only 487 cals. I'm going to try it out next weekend. You know you have conquered this diet coke thing, don't you! Congratulations! Is it much easier for you now? You're on the Paul McKenna?! Oh good! I've got a Scottish hypnotist companion! Hey i've got a joke: Why do celebrity hypnotists always look so smug... Because they imagine everyone naked. You know it's true!

Brilliant news SilentTerror Well done!

Woohoo for WinterSun! Looks like a good diet.

Well done Lisa, next week it'll show on the scales too! The new wardrobe will take care of itself, you'll see!

Banana are you an aussie, also? Got to say the weather here says 'potatoes' to me, when it would be much more useful to be saying 'cucumbers'.

mixedmama - you DID mean 9stone11.5 right, otherwise you could give tips to renee zellweger if she makes another brig jones film! Big congrats to you, i think!
I'm wishing you an easy time of the dreaded chicken pox ds. How frustrating. How long does he have to stay in for?

Countess, good question. Sounds like you're setting up your 40's to be fantastic for you.
I want to lose weight now, as i want to have another child within the next couple of years, and found the last pregnancy difficult and depressing with the amount of weight i was carrying already. Piled on more after the birth feeling down. I also want to feel like a sexy, confident woman again .

at mixedmama's friend's SIL! She's like my Chinese relatives! Sounds as though she appreciates frankness. You could have a lot of fun, returning the 'favour'! My more tactful friends tell me i look so, '...healthy'!

That's a really good reason whyme2. It does worry me too, when i hear about obesity rates in children rising. And it would be awful not to give one's children the best possible start if it is within grasp.

Get well everyone with colds and take your vitamins. A double Berocca and spatone for me ...

I'm going to post today with a sneaky weigh in as i'm out and about tomorrow.

Polly that was a brilliant catch up. You put me to shame

Excellent on the weight loss.Another 3lbs right? Brilliant.

PollyGarter · 25/01/2009 14:54

It does seem rather a long post when it's put together like that - i miss being able to quip in the right time frame like your fine self!

tessieb · 25/01/2009 15:37

Polly (though I keep thinking of you as Bessie), lovely to hear from you again and congratulations on your weight loss. Have you being doing Paul McKenna for long? Do you find it easy?

I've only started Paul McKenna today, in fact just listened to his CD half an hour ago. I felt things were really slipping with me so thought I'd give this a go.

I bought the book and CD last year though only used it for a few weeks then (don't know why I stopped????). I'd jotted my starting weight in it last year and it was 'only' 10st 9!!! Early Jan I was 11 st 12, so 17lbs put on in a year!!! Ridiculous.

I wanted to do some exercise today but am feeling so rubbish with this cold that I've just had a lie down instead (excuses, excuses!).

Hope you are all having a good weekend.

bananapaddlepop · 25/01/2009 15:51

well done polly on the loss. (yes i'm an aussie...lived over here since 2001....i miss home, especially this weekend being australia day and all..

we've had a quiet day today, had coffee with a friend.. I even served the kids up some pancakes for lunch and managed to resist them.

going to do davina tonight as it's too murky to go out.

mabs i hope your ds is better. re abu dhabi we're staying at some serviced apartments right near the rotana beach hotel - which is where I think I'll spend my days at the beach club. get some gym time whilst dd is in the creche. can't wait.

great going everyone, look at all the losses.
keep it up. xx

PollyGarter · 25/01/2009 17:07

Tessie, I started the PMK on the 6/7th Jan. But i haven't committed to it properly , as i did a half rosemary colney diet to go with it - and considering you're not meant to diet on it - i think it was a major faux pas. I needed some guidelines really to get back in the swing of things. I'm feeling a little bit braver now about trusting myself on it - i've found the cd a good reminder. Though having his voice inside my head took some getting used to as it's not entirely pleasant! That said, every day i've listened to him, has been a lot easier than days i haven't. So i think i'll take the plunge as of right now and stick to the rules 100%. It won't be very long at all before you're 10'9 again. You've done a lot of good things in that year! And then right on track for your goal!

Banana, i know what you mean about this weekend. Right now i'd be sleeping, probably dreaming about the bbq we would be having later on in the day with all the reles and friends. I haven't seen any aussiemite here. So, I'll be having vegemite on toast for brekkie tomorrow at least!

LisaLessLumpy · 25/01/2009 17:49

Hello everyone.

Polly - Good work on the weightloss this week, right I need to be good to match you at next weeks weigh in

I am still feeling crap with this cold too tessieB

Today
2oz Cornflakes, HW and 1/2 spoon
Toad in the hole, tablespoon of mash, veg and gravy.
Bit of bread and butter pudding and custard for tea, couldn't manage it after dinner.

Went for a walk with the boys this afternoon, only two miles but better than nothing. I am hoping I feel better tomorrow and can start exercising properly this week.

Blimey I can't believe a month has gone by already

Wintersun · 26/01/2009 08:38

Morning all.
Have had a bad night with ds2 being feverish. I'm staying at home today so need to try really hard at sticking to the healthy eating.
I AM going to stick to it!

I'm going to try to be v.strict week. I'd love to lose 2-3 lbs by the end of this week. Like Lisa pointed out (argh!) a month has gone by already and I haven't done as well as I thought I would or as I could have done.

fruit, yoghurt
soup, ryvita
chicken, veg

I'm going to have 2 apples a day to snack on.

tessieb · 26/01/2009 09:43

There are so many illnesses around at the moment! Wintersun, hope your DS feels better soon, and Lisa hope that cold is going at last.

MABS, not heard from you in a while. How is your DS?

I'm having a quiet day today as not feeling too good with this cold. After taking DS to school this morning I went straight to the chemist to stock up on cold remedies! So, that will be my exercise for the day - walking to school and the chemist and back

Wintersun, I'd love to lose 2 - 3lbs this week too, especially as I lost nothing last week! I listened to my Paul McKenna CD twice yesterday, so hope that has an effect!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 26/01/2009 09:53

Wintersun · 26/01/2009 10:20

Post the recipe please Mixedmama! I have a butternut squash that I want to do a soup with.

I know a really tasty one but it has a can of coconut milk init. Very yummy but not too good for the diet!

LisaLessLumpy · 26/01/2009 12:40

Morning all.

Tessie I have been to the chemist too, I asked her for some cough medicine for a tickly cough that would knock me out at night :D For some reason DS2 keeps waking up in the middle of the night crying [yawn]

Today

2 nimble toast with jam and cottage cheese
2 nimble toast with flora light and carrot and coriander soup. (mmmm lots of carbs there, but each slice is only 50 calories )
Leftover chicken dupiaza from Sat night and I will have veg with it rather than rice

I will attempt Davina this evening don't have time today

Wintersun · 26/01/2009 17:06

I'm not going to talk about today as its been rubbish.

I feel really tired and down and have been munching on food that I shouldn't have been.
