I've been lookinf around for the big day and you lot are a motivated bunch aren't you!

I'm not going on a frenzy before 2009, but know I won't make commitment beforehand.

Is there anyone else waiting for the new year?

If so, what method are you thinking of using?

Size 10... oh joy!

In 2 weeks i'll take a peek at my size 10 clothes up in the loft for a bit of a preview.

I love the centred feeling after yoga. Good on ya Tessieb.

mixedmamameansbusiness - i used to do situps with a friend with boxing gloves on and used to imagine it was my ex every time i'd swipe at the top... great for blowing off steam.

Being good today, but dragging myself around today, after a 3am play session with the pfb. When i'm this tired i usually go for carbs. Now that i've said that, i won't.

Hello everyone - this thread is a really good motivator ...

Feeling upbeat today because confined myself to one small helping of reasonably healthy lunch yesterday (dd was home from school so we had carrots, new potatoes and a tiny lamb chop) and a bowl of homemade butternut squash soup for supper last night ...and resisted the temptation to snack in front of the telly apart from some grapes so feel as if I am really back on track!! (didn't do my power walk though but had very active day)

Sorry Bessie - I've gone continental!! Will henceforth post in pounds and ounces ...

76.2 = 11.999 stone/76 = 11.96 stone
It's really, really kind of you to congratulate me on losing 0.2 of a kilo btw!!! I mean it - it really cheered me up and kept me motivated ...

Keep strong everyone!

countesscaloriecounter · 13/01/2009 13:35

OK, thought it would be fun to change my name from countessofmontecristo to countesscaloriecounter in honor of this thread!

tessieb · 13/01/2009 13:39

Love the new name Countess!

countesscaloriecounter · 13/01/2009 14:56

Thanks. Every time I see my name now it will remind me to be good.

MABS · 13/01/2009 15:44

disaster stuck! i did hour of salsa last nt, and 45 run in gym ths am, but then i ate 2 small pack of wine gums, a choc cookie AND 2 large glassses of wine.

Holds head in shame

LisaLessLumpy · 13/01/2009 15:52

I would have thought you had burnt a vast majority of those cals off. DO NOT WORRY, just start fresh again and don't dwell on it.

MABS · 13/01/2009 16:17

thanks Lisa, am so bloody cross with myself!

LisaLessLumpy · 13/01/2009 16:39

I've just eaten 8 ritz crackers, purely because I opened a box for the boy's tea knew I shouldn't have bought them.

bananapaddlepop · 13/01/2009 17:54

How's everyone doing?

Lisa + Mabs don't beat yourselves up, it's not worth it. Mabs all your exercise would have gone along way to burning it off and Lisa 8 tiny ritz biscuits is nothing.

With my DH away two girlfriends are coming over tomorrow night for supper, really sweet of them but it means I have to cook something tasty. Any ideas on a tasty low fat dessert? I've got the main sorted.

My weigh in is tomorrow, I've no idea how I've done, fingers crossed eh?

MABS · 13/01/2009 17:59

thanks banana, prob is now i have a taste back for the vino, want another glass!!

countesscaloriecounter · 13/01/2009 18:01

MABS that is why i haven't touched a drop since I started the diet. 1 glass just isn't enough.

bananapaddlepop I bet you'll have done great, but I have my fingers crossed for you anyway.

tessieb · 13/01/2009 18:11

Bananapaddlepop - enjoy your supper with friends tomorrow. What are you having for the main course? For desert, I think meringue nests filled with fresh fruit salad would be a low-cal healthy option. I think sorbet is low-cal too so maybe that with it. I'll see if I can think of any more ideas.

Lisa and Mabs - these things happen, but you just have to keep trying. You did well with all the exercise, Mabs.

Countess of the calorie counter - I haven't had any wine either since this started. Think I may buy a small bottle (2 glasses) of wine to treat myself at the weekend!

MABS · 13/01/2009 18:14

thanks all, i haven't had wine since i starte either...until today

MrsMattie · 13/01/2009 18:19

Hi all. Thought I would join one of the many threads in this section, as have started a healthy eating plan (refuse to call it a diet!) and an exercise plan. Kicked off 8 days ago and have lost 4 lbs. I'm looking to lose a stone by late March and preferably 2 stone by early summer.

I'm not on a crash diet - i had wine, a takeaway and even some cake at the weekend! - but I am trying to eat a healthy, low fat diet, with a few treats each weekend, plus up my activity levels considerably. I've been walking for 60 mins every day and have just joined my local gym.

I feel so much better and full of energy. I'm having sugar cravings at night after dinner (when i would usually tuck into chocolate and biscuits) but am managing to control them so far.

Be great to get a bit of support and encouragement from MN-ers, though

MABS · 13/01/2009 18:25

well done MrsMattie, a great start, welcome!

countesscaloriecounter · 13/01/2009 18:56

Hello MrsMattie and welcome. It sounds like you have a great plan all worked out there.

Tessieb That souunds a great idea buying one of the small bottles of wine. It means you don't overdo it.

Unfortunately I have a garage full of wine from when DH went to France so temptation in my way all the time!

MrsMattie · 13/01/2009 19:25

What do you all do to stop food cravings? I am craving chocolate so badly

countesscaloriecounter · 13/01/2009 19:44

I would recommend Weight Watchers. They have a range of chocolate stuff. They taste delicious and are low fat.

LisaLessLumpy · 13/01/2009 20:20

Hi MrsMattie and well done on your 4lb loss
Have you tried the Options Hot Choc drink? For 60 calories for a really chocolately drink it should curb your chocolate craving for far less calories, its what I usually do

The 8 ritz crackers were followed by a handful of Mars planets chocolate and half a leftover pitta bread from the boys tea, dipped in houmous and a bowl of dry shreddies why?! I HAVE NO WILLPOWER and hate to see food go to waste

The dinner I had planned went by the wayside as dh saw a pizza in the fridge so he had that, I had one slice and called that my tea as not really hungry after the snacking, so even though I have eaten crap I should still be within my calories, not good but better than eating on top of the snacking.

I had two glasses of cava on saturday night but that is all since Jan 1st so not doing too badly. Luckily I don't crave alcohol or chocolate particularly, but if it is there I will eat it

Ho hum, tomorrow is another day and I MUST do some exercise, I just feel too tired today to do any.

SilentTerror · 13/01/2009 21:13

Hi all.
Porridge for breakfast.
Scrambled egg on toast for lunch.
Small amt salmon and mushroom risotto for dinner.
..wine plus bar of chocolate at 8 pm.
Watching tv in evening my worst time

Wintersun · 13/01/2009 21:16

Don't worry Lisa and Mabs, just be extra good tomorrow. Try to do some exercise too and you'll be fine

Hi Mrs Mattie. I can't really help you with the after dinner craving issue. Its my problem too. I can be good all day and then ruin things in the evening. I've decided I'm not going to do that anymore so I've just told myself that I can't eat anything after dinner. Nothing at all.
I'll have aherbal tea or some fruit if I'm genuinely hungry.
I think, psychologically, having a rule seems to be working.

Bananapaddle - have you looked on the ww website? they have some recipes sometimes. You could try some strawberries and cream which is really strawberries and fat free greek yoghurt mixed with a drop of vanilla and a bit of sugar. Or a fruit crumble with a light crumble? Alcohol jellies? Otherwise sod it, go for a decent dessert, just have a bit and exercis it off the next day

Today has been quite good;

fruit and yoghurt
salad
work vending machine hot choc
rice and chicken

exercise - 30 mins walking

I would also like to tell you all that at work today and yesterday I have resisted doughnuts, all manner of cakes, chocolates in those big friendly tins, some yummy looking pastries from cyprus and creme eggs.
My, it was hard but now I am so thankful that I didn't eat any

LisaLessLumpy · 13/01/2009 21:49

Well done on the willpower wintersun

I am feeling hungry now so I am going to have a glass of water and go to bed

bessiebighead · 13/01/2009 22:09

Please don't change into st/lb Counting, i was just being glib and i could do with a different context! Well done on resisting temptation today !

on the name change CountessCalorieCounter

Don't sweat the gums and wine MABS. Can you have something ready for when you're in the same situation next time? I never joined the girl guides but very much in awe of mixedmamas 'always be prepared' ethos. I'm very much in awe of Your physical commitment!

Lisalesslumpy, i think it must be tough to make different food for everyone else. Now that my dh has eaten ALL the xmas and ny choccies (he has the fastest metabolism in the west and he's unbelievably tall ), he's eating the same as me. I don't know how it works with children, could they have the same as you? They must have different nutritional needs though? And they need snacks to keep them going. {tries to imagine pfb in 6 years} Tough one.
Does the rest of your family know how much you want to change? And is it possible that they could willingly join you? Please don't worry about the food going to waste. It can be difficult to say that, especially economically. But it will save money and keep you happier in the long run, if you leave the 'clean plate club'!(Mckenna's phrase) Most importantly, don't feel down about it - it's easy to do that when you're tired. Tomorrow is another day and you'll turn it around.

Banana, the meringue and sorbet sounds like a good idea. Have a lovely night tomorrow!

Hey there MrsMattie. Wow, you're going great guns already! Night sweet cravings are tricky. I go on the herbal tea and water all night - I have it made up ready. It could be good to do the high quality dark chocolate route if you know you can limit the quantity.

Salmon and mushroom risotto sounds like a very tasty dinner SilentTerror. Well done on a good day!

Yummy desert ideas Wintersun Great day for you! And well done on avoiding the sweet sorties!

I'm starting to believe that my goal is more than theoretically achievable for the first time ( i haven't been 8st 11 since my early 20's) and it's down to McKenna and this thread for sure. I can't believe i've held myself back for so long now. Very excited about making it happen.

Morning everyone.
Just checking in to try to keep on the straight and narrow today.

I've got tons of laundry and housework to do today so that should keep me busy (along with the dss, of course!)
I was hoping to take them for a long walk in the buggy to the park so I hope it brightens up later. Its very foggy at the moment.

Bessie - its great to hear you're so positive. I know I can do it too. It is hard and there are ups and downs but we can do it!

When we start eating healthily, we all feel more energetic, happy and positive. It seems strange that we often sabotage it by eating things that we know conciously that we don't want to, but we still do it and end up feeling miserable. Lets not do that!

Bananpaddle - good luck with your weigh in!

Hope you all have a good day today!

My food plan for today is;

fruit and yoghurt
soup or salad
quorn, bean and veg stew OR pesto pasta and salad.
