Am hoping to start SW on Monday. Have tried it before but never really got on with it for some reason but am trying again. Bought the magazine and like the look of loads of the recipes. Just a bit worried as I won;t be able to get some of the ingredients here in Budapest. Low fat fromage frais not easy to come by here along with some other stuff.

lunavix · 04/01/2009 11:39

I am starting again monday. It isn't so much about SW, but I'm having a bit of a life remodel and I think this diet is the best to follow to eat with a family and relatively normally!

So -waves- at everyone. Since I was here last I had a brief fling with both WW and LL lol. WW I got very sick of eating processed food, and LL was good but started just before christmas which was just plain silly.

I'd go back to it but like I said, life remodel, and eating with the kids (and not hiding in the kitchen with a shake!) is part of that.

So help!!! Can anyone plaese give me suggestions for breakfast, lunches and snacks on the run? I go to Uni three days a week, it's a two hour commute there (by train) so I only take one shoulder bag with me. On a tight budget so want to make my own food (canteen doesn't sell anything healthy and it's all overpriced!).

Also, to complicate matters, there's no facilities to make your own food (ie toaster, microwave, kettle)

Sparkler, know exactly how you feel, I was the same before christmas (and during) (and since ) but now enough is enough.

lunavix · 04/01/2009 12:54

Thought I'd also post my menu for this week here if anyone wants to pick holes in it! (It starts from dinner Monday as I have a slot from then for grocery delivery!)

Breakfasts
Tu, W, S, S - weetabix and semi skimmed milk (a and b)
M, T,F - pots of muller light/shape lasting satisfaction and fruit

Lunch
M - Salad with new potatoes, boiled eggs, extra light salad cream (2syns for 2 tbsp) ham (b)
T - as above
W - pasta n sauce (broccoli and cheese)
T - sushi - 1.5 syns for 3 sheets, filled with sushi rice, teriyaki sauce, cucumber, chicken (b) and soy sauce to dip
F - sushi as above
S - pasta n sauce
S - pasta n sauce

Dinners
M - rustic chips (3 syns) with mushy peas and quorn sausages
T - veggie chilli (with a few sour cream syns!)
W - spinach lasagne (with some syns for low fat creme fraiche, and an he a for mozzarella)
T - jacket potato and spaghetti hoops
F - rustic chips (3 syns) with mushy peas and quorn sausages
S - jacket potato and spaghetti hoops
S - roast dinner (with suitable mix of syns and a/b for a green day)

Total
M - 5 syns plus b
T - approx 5 syns 1 a and 2 bs (will look up sour cream)
W - approx 3 syns, 2 as and a b
T - 1.5 syns, and a b
F - 4.5 syns and b
S - a and b
S - a and 2 bs (assuming b from meat) and then syns for gravy and yorkie

Okay so it's not too adventurous. I struggled mixing SW and Uni so I'm going to slowly get back into it with lunches and breakfasts. The reason Thurs, Fri and Sat dinners aren't exciting is because I don't have the kids so cook something very basic for myself.

I'll also add snack in for some more syns, and to make up a's and b's. And extra fruit and veg snacks. So some babybels, alpen light bars, mullerlights/shape yogs, raspberries, apples, satsumas... and the

lunavix · 04/01/2009 12:55

odd bit of choc that should say!

sugarlumps · 04/01/2009 19:48

now i feel thick, i just added a new thread as it said it was too big to write something!!!

i dont know what imdoing wrong but my weight doesnt seem to be moving at all!!!! hopefully my scales are bust but i doubt it!

got my first group meeting 2moro and i've been let down by my slimming buddy! not good!

i wish i was as prepared as you lunavix. my boy starts school 2moro so i might sit down and plan my weekly meals 2moro!
good luck for this week people!!

FairLadyRantALot · 04/01/2009 19:56

lunavix, good luck...it can be a bit of a hassle with Uni...am in the same boat....luckily I am able to get hold of hot water, so, if I am not prepared I just take a Mugshot noodle snack wiht me for lunch, grab some fruit and have a Hifi Bar....!
If I do prepare, I tend to take Quiche with me.
Have tried a lovely recipe from my green cookbook, called moorish chickpeas, which can be eaten hot and cold and it is lovely....so, that will feature in the future.
I suppose with it being a different plan now it will be a bit easier
Admittedly, have had another week of eating crap....so, god knows what Wednesday will bring...but felt I best get quickly through those treats and start again, then having it lying about once I have my head into SW mode again, lol...my excuse and I am sticking with it

Sugarlumps, good luck for tomorrow

And hi to everyone else....

FairLadyRantALot · 04/01/2009 19:57

Sparkler....just try to let it go and go back to basics and start again
No point beating yoruself up over it, because that will make it worse and might make you go for whatever you sholdn't be eating

kid · 04/01/2009 20:01

andyrobo237 That would be fantastic, as long as you are sure you don't mind.
you can email me at kt8cs5[at]yahoo.co.uk

Tommy · 06/01/2009 13:06

First weigh-in after Christmas today and I have only put on 3 1/2 llbs! I feel like I've eaten about half a ton of chocolates and cheese so I was pleasantly surprised by that

Fairlady - any chance you could post that chickpea recipe? I will definitely need some new inspiration. I reckon I have another stone to go and would really like to get there by early summer..

FairLadyRantALot · 06/01/2009 16:04

Here:

Moorish chickpeas

-1 large onion, chopped
-2 garlic cloves, crushed
-1 green pepper, deseeded and sliced
-2x 397g/14oz cans chickpeas, drained
-397g/14oz can chopped tomatoes
-sa;t and freshly ground pepper
-1 tsp. each ground cumin, dried oregano and cayenne pepper
-198g/7oz can sweetcorn, drained

Place all teh ingredients , dxcept the sweetcorn, in a large saucepan. Bring to the boil, cover and simmer for 20minutes. Season to taste and stir in teh sweetcorn just beofre serving. Delicioous hot or cold, so it says

Freezer friendly
ready in 25 minutes
serves 4

Oh, I added a tblsp or so of sweetener, and that made, to me, al the difference....I find that will tomatoe based recipes....

Tommy · 06/01/2009 16:08

thanks - I will give that a try excepet wittout the sweetcorn of course which is the food of the devil......

FairLadyRantALot · 06/01/2009 16:12

lol...it will taste fine even without sweetcorn.

kid · 06/01/2009 17:08

I am delaying my starting of SW. Waiting for the SW books to arrive so I have half a chance of sticking to it.

Although, just by cutting out the junk, I lost 5lb since Christmas. I deserve some last minute treats just for managing that I think.

Going to make apple crumble with my DS shortly so we can enjoy that after dinner.

FairLadyRantALot · 06/01/2009 18:07

We already got our new books last week, kid...they should be at all the groups already....
but wow, by losing 5Ibs just by cutting out crap....well done you

sugarlumps · 06/01/2009 19:28

hi ppl how are you?
went to my first group on monday which was interesting???? lol my consultant said i was only allowed 10 syns a day, but i thought we were allowed uo to 15?
i have to admit i am struggling with only 10syns! i lost over 2 stone last time with eating 15 syns a day, so it cant have changed that much surely!!!

FairLadyRantALot · 06/01/2009 19:58

hmm, just read what it says in the new booklet...and it states 5-15 syns a day and your consultant will help you find the right amount of syns....
so, wondering if this has changed then...will ask tomorrow

kid · 06/01/2009 21:29

FairyLadyRantALot, andyrobo237 has very kindly offered me her old books. Just waiting for nice Mr Postman to bring them now so I can get started.

When I did SW before, I used the 15 syns a day. When the weight loss started to slow down or stopped, I reduced the syns to around 10 a day to shift the last bit of weight. That seems such a long time ago now. I did have a baby since then, even if he is 6 years old now

FairLadyRantALot · 06/01/2009 22:14

It's just they now changed sw completely...not that I have properly tried it out, lol...but in my newest book, that brandnew plan it says that teh consultant will work out your syns for you (which is a bot like WW points were worked out wiht consultant....even on core plan, iykwim)

sugarlumps · 07/01/2009 08:02

well, i think for this week im going to have around 12 syns a day, thats a bag of crisps n a curly wurly
i cant see there being that much difference between 10 and 12 lol

im not gonna try the extra easy plan, i think im just gonna stick to my green days with the occasional red day thrown in, coz i dont eat a lot of meat!

i seem to have lost 3llb since monday??? it probably wont stay off mind you!

good luck!

FairLadyRantALot · 07/01/2009 14:28

hmm, there is doesn't seem to be a change in syns allowance...

well, I put on 2 1/2 Ibs over the past 10 days ..but not to worried...am going to have a fabulkous first week and will try this new plan this week and see how it goes

password is apple...

loobyt · 08/01/2009 11:49

Hello, can I join? I'm starting SW next week as still not managed to shift my baby weigh and have added to it over christmas. Have 2 stone to lose!

FairLadyRantALot · 08/01/2009 14:30

loobyt, the more the merreir
2 stone will be easily lost with SW...I have been doing the new plan since yesterday and I so enjoyed having normal spag bol without portion control ....

FairLadyRantALot · 08/01/2009 14:54

OH, btw...I won a SW magazine at a raffle, and well, I have already got it!
It's the Nov/Dec.2008 Issue....if anyone is interested...just give me a shout on

realjolie @ yahoo . de

FairLadyRantALot · 09/01/2009 18:02

Well....I have been doing the extra easy since Wednesday now, and really enjoying it ;) Been really "good", too...s, hopefully it will work for me on a weightloss basis, too Well, next Wednesdays weigh in will tell.
Done, Canellonis today with some left over Bologneses sauce...it was delicious....even 12 year old son was happy

sugarlumps · 10/01/2009 09:58

i have to admit i wa skeptical about joining group! but so far it seems to be working, according to my scales i have lost 5lb since monday but im going to have to see if there is any difference between scales!

i now ony have 8lbs to lose before im at my target, howvere i might take it slightly lower this time, im going to see how i feel when i get there!

how's everyone doing this week? cant remember if i posted the password before but its apple!

have a good weekend everyone!
