How about losing one stone by Christmas 🌲

Clitmandu · 14/09/2025 08:22

There are 14 weeks until Christmas. I’m thinking just one pound a week would crack a stone off and make a big difference.

One pound a week is doable and not too much pressure.

I am starting today, my plan is to stop being so bloody greedy and stop the mindless all day long scoffing.

Weigh in every Sunday.

Am off to dust off the scales and weigh myself, I will report back !

Would love some company.

Hi can I join? 55, post menopausal but with a disability that makes exercising difficult.

Currently 73kg down from 90 - it’s been a 3-yr journey on my own but I’m really proud of what I’ve managed so far. My goal weight is 65kg but I’ll be happy if I get under 70 by the new year.

My problem is that I like a bottle or two of wine over a weekend with hubby.

AreYouBrandNew · 21/09/2025 11:34

@MedievalNun welcome! What a fantastic loss so far x

aterriblefish · 21/09/2025 11:41

I'd like to join in too! I lost about a stone last summer, put on a bit, then planned to loose it this summer - but failed miserably. My weakness is wine and fried food (crisps, chips etc). I've stopped drinking but that has made me crave more carbs and snacks - so that is my next challenge. So reduced carbs, more protein, some fast 800 which has worked for me previously (by the end of a fasting day I could happily eat my own arms but curiously I'm no hungrier the next day). So I really want to shift 6 pounds to 9-9. I could stand to lose a whole stone but I'd be very content with the 6 pounds - I'm not looking to be thin just less blobby. Work stress is also my nemesis which will kick of with the new approaching term. My thoughts to all who are navigating personal losses and challenges and trying not to comfort eat/drink.

Pixie2015 · 21/09/2025 13:12

managed to look at scales at first weigh in and still motivated day 2 - but over eating cereal at breakfast is my downfall so have weighed out 5 bags of porridge for the week - good luck ever

NotBendyEnough · 21/09/2025 15:35

I'm 10st 9lb today. I walked for over an hour this morning, so off to a good start.

AllBranEater · 21/09/2025 15:45

That's a good idea @Pixie2015 ! Well done @NotBendyEnough ! Good luck to everyone starting today or on the first weigh in!

YetiRosetti · 21/09/2025 18:17

I’ve lost 1lb this week! A day of 500 calories has done it as the rest have been very average. It’s the only thing that really works for me in the past, so I’ll have to keep it up even though I hate it šŸ˜–

Midlifeshenanigans · 21/09/2025 20:42

Can I join too please. Have been meaning to lose weight all year but eat when I’m stressed tired etc and it’s been a tough year. Weighed in this morning at 71.5kg and need to be below 60kg to be in the healthy weight category. Would love to be down 5kg by Christmas. I’ve worked out my eating tomorrow with nutracheck so ready to start in earnest

ClaredeBear · 22/09/2025 08:10

Better late than never…I’ve just stepped onto the scales this morning, after a prolonged period of ignoring them, to discover I’m 10st 6.

9st 6 is actually my ideal weight, so here goes!

Good luck everyone

Harrysmummy246 · 22/09/2025 09:08

86.8 kg (13st 9 apparently gulp) this morning. Less than I was expecting but clearly my period was playing havoc last week.
Racing yesterday was MEH and eating was a bit all over the shop with timing round that.
Onwards. Continue dodging wine as much as possible. Avoid the biscuit with morning coffee and try to avoid eating randomly and mindlessly after dinner.

Yes. It’s the mindlessly that gets me every time!

In the context of just diagnosed ADHD it's making slightly more sense now but can't necessarily change a habit overnight

MightyGoldBear · 22/09/2025 17:55

Does anyone else really struggle around their period with eating? I make good progress all month long and then that comes and bam I need to eat all the chocolate goingšŸ™ˆ anyone got any advice? Apart from locking myself in a cage for that week 😬

Alioopsidaisy · 22/09/2025 19:49

First day down. Managed to avoid alcohol and chocolate. Even did a bit of exercise! It is only day 1 though!!

MiddlingMarch · 22/09/2025 19:59

Day 3 no added sugar (almost) done.

I've realised that the calorie counter i am using - cronometer- has set me at a calorie deficits below BMR which research (google) has told me is a no-no. Apparently calorie deficit should not be lower than BMR because your body will believe you have died (or are starving) and will hang on to any and all calories nearby. Deficits are to be above BMR (mine is 1550) but below TDEE (mine is 1800 or so, based on sedentary lifestyle). So I still have another 500ish calories for my tea. Woo.

I have done 10k steps as normal, 20 minute row. No biscuits, bread, sweets, cake, sacks of sugar or syrup. Well done me.

lilybloomtoo · 22/09/2025 21:19

I haven't lost anything this week but I am hopeful this will change now I am using the calorie counting app,.I;ve managed to stay in the deficit so am hoping this week is more successful

declutteringmymind · 22/09/2025 21:32

Better to have some, in moderation, I think. Prepare for that, include it in calculation but remember that if you're on track 80% of the time, you should be making progress over time

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 22/09/2025 23:05

Do the diet recommended by diabetes Uk - no white carbs, no bread or pasta, only brown rice or sweet potato and lots of protein, lots of veg and no tropical fruit or juice. Very minimal alcohol. No sweets or chocs etc. you’ll glow

gingerbreadmumm · 23/09/2025 00:05

So pleased I came across this thread - I’d love to loose a stone - even half would be great! I tend to measure in kilos - I’m about 61 kilos (5ft 2) eat crap and don’t exercise much and feel rubbish about how I look atm.

not sure what approach to take but definitely need to get motivated x

SnowFrogJelly · 23/09/2025 00:56

Joining.. so far I have lost a stone very slowly by cutting carbs/calories and exercising more but need to lose another..

AreYouBrandNew · 23/09/2025 07:13

@SnowFrogJelly @gingerbreadmumm @declutteringmymind welcone to the new joiners! (again sorry to any I’ve missed)

good luck to all! Here for support

AreYouBrandNew · 23/09/2025 07:17

@MiddlingMarch my app was also a bit off on calories. Tried to put me on 1300 which would be a struggle for me. Good that you got yours sorted. Hope you see results on the scales soon

AreYouBrandNew · 23/09/2025 07:19

@MightyGoldBear its tough with pmt! I try and stick to loads of water, electrolytes and make space in calorie count for some smallish treats.

I'm not back on counting as yet, but usually if I work on 1800-2000 and actually stick to it, that's worked in the past. But I do train for rowing up to 6 days a week and do a lot of gardening as part of my job.

I had one small chocolate crispy after dinner last night as Ds kindly shared with me, skipped wine and added fruit/ salad for meals and snacks.

Planning same today with a good dose of working on the hedges and a short row as it's another competition week but it's so glorious
