How about losing one stone by Christmas 🌲

Clitmandu · 14/09/2025 08:22

There are 14 weeks until Christmas. I’m thinking just one pound a week would crack a stone off and make a big difference.

One pound a week is doable and not too much pressure.

I am starting today, my plan is to stop being so bloody greedy and stop the mindless all day long scoffing.

Weigh in every Sunday.

Am off to dust off the scales and weigh myself, I will report back !

Would love some company.

@MightyGoldBear its tough with pmt! I try and stick to loads of water, electrolytes and make space in calorie count for some smallish treats.

Yes I might try this. I almost need to get to goal weight then go just under just to account for the extra at period time every month šŸ™ˆ

I'd settle for getting to goal weight first šŸ˜‚

AreYouBrandNew · 23/09/2025 09:28

@MightyGoldBear i dream of being goal weight, seeing the scales maybe tip up a bit and knowing it’s only a few days of low cal to get back down.

it’s a long road ahead.

AreYouBrandNew · 23/09/2025 09:31

@Harrysmummy246 sounds like a good plan. It is interesting tracking calories. Sounds obviously but I was having a few minor treats a day that really clocked up.

do you know your calorie expenditure/deficit?

AreYouBrandNew · 23/09/2025 09:33

@Alioopsidaisy well done! Hope next few days stay on track

MiddlingMarch · 23/09/2025 09:35

I cannot have a biscuit or some chocolate each day, otherwise my little snacky-snack or "of course i deserve a treat" becomes too easy to do twice a day, then more... I need to cut out added sugar entirely before I can think about "allowing" myself a biscuit or slice of cake when out for a coffee with friends.

I did give up sugar once, the day after Halloween 2019. I made some marshmallow chocolate things for a wee party we were having g and ate so many as I made them that I thought my skeleton would jump out of my skin.

It was fine u til the first covid lockdown and I went to the supermarket the first time. And it was FULL of unsold easter chocolate. I snapped and bought loads as treats/to drive the kids with. Ate most myself and never looked back.

So no treats or snacks for me.

Saying that, I'm stuffing myself with fruit and vegetables and eggs and cooked chicken and nuts. So that's all good.

WhereDoBrokenHeartsGo · 23/09/2025 09:41

Can I join? I’m aiming to lose 3kg by Halloween and 8kg by Christmas. I have been trying to make small changes recently - I cut out alcohol a few months ago and I’m trying to go cold turkey on Diet Coke (on day 3, I have such a bad Diet Coke habit and have such a headache). Chocolate/sugar is my downfall šŸ˜”

gingerbreadmumm · 23/09/2025 10:09

Thanks @AreYouBrandNew x

PMT eating is definitely my downfall too. I just want to eat everything šŸ™ˆ

Af arrived yesterday.

I am trying to just have fruit as a snack (though yesterday managed to eat two bowls of Frosties Even though I’d been good with breakfast, lunch and dinner.

How have people got on with intermittent fasting? What times do you try to eat between? Does it work without counting calories or do you count calories as well?

Triceratopmeup · 23/09/2025 10:14

So I am officially in the zone... at least that's what I'm telling myself! Did a weights session yesterday, followed by a reformer pilates class. I am definitely feeling it this morning!!
Started the day off with a protein shake, alongside greek yoghurt, berries & chia seeds. Did a sneaky weigh in this morning & appear to have dropped one whole measly pound since last week... at least the scales went in the right direction for a change!!

Triceratopmeup · 23/09/2025 10:17

@gingerbreadmumm I had quite a bit of success with IF a few years ago. I found an eating window of 1pm to 8pm the easiest to follow. Really just meant that I was skipping breakfast. Though I technically didn't do a "clean fast" because I put a dash of milk into my tea

I need to recalculate probably as last time I was tracking, I was working 45h PW outside in all weathers, stood up, lots of steps, manual work etc.

I'm not doing that now. And did put on weight when I left that job but it was breaking me and almost a year later, just about finding some equilibrium.

At the moment, given I've just been diagnosed with ADHD, not yet medicated, I'm working on being more mindful of the dopamine seeking eating and working out how best to stick with training when it comes to decision paralysis etc. I'm also trying to work self employed at home which takes a lot of my bandwidth.

So, for now, making better choices in a small way, focus on portion sizes, move more. On that note, am leaving my CAD drawings alone and going rowing while it's so gorgeous

AreYouBrandNew · 23/09/2025 12:50

@MiddlingMarch good to figure out what works for you eg no sugar and take things from there

@Triceratopmeup i know what you mean about being in the zone - it’s a bit mindset and a bit physical for me - have to retrain my appetite downwards a bit!

Harrysmummy246 · 23/09/2025 19:28

I stopped eating when full at dinner. This is not something I often do. Small steps etc

NotnowMavis · 23/09/2025 20:30

Am I too late to join? I have had a very indulgent summer and am bursting out of my clothes! Far too frugal to buy new ones so I MUST drop a stone. Which should be possible by Christmas. I’m not planning to go mad, just lose the crisps and alcohol and sweet stuff. Weigh in on Sunday.

Triceratopmeup · 23/09/2025 20:42

So I've bitten the bullet & have organised my first ever PT session tomorrow!! I do exercise, but mainly hyrox type classes, so I'm hoping some one on one training will keep me accountable. It also includes a nutrition & supplement plan, so fingers crossed I can actually stick to it & get some results.

MiddlingMarch · 23/09/2025 21:19

Good luck @Triceratopmeup I think that might be my next step too.

I just counted up the little snacky snacks I was eating each day. Around 750 calories. On food I barely noticed I was eating! Biscuits, granola bar, large amount from a sharing bag of crisps... dearie me. That's shocked me.

StrongLikeMamma · 23/09/2025 21:29

Oooh can I please join you?!

Triceratopmeup · 23/09/2025 21:29

@MiddlingMarch it's crazy how all the mindless snacking adds up. For me it's my wine consumption. I also eat massive portions. I serve myself the same amount as my husband & 6'2 rugby playing teenage son... and I can polish it off, no bother!! 🐽

bluecrochetedplane · 23/09/2025 21:43

Ooh just found this thread having started trying to lose weight 4 weeks ago.
Hoping you'll welcome me in, I started at 84kg and am now 81.5kg. This is just by calorie counting as I dont do any exercise although I know I should.
Im using MyNetDiary to track everything.
My goal is to lose 2 stone, I'm 173cm and currently bmi of 27.2. I want to get in the healthy range and then hopefully lose a bit more.
I know that slow and steady wins the race so Im not too stressed.
It's great to read of everyone's losses.

I have given up diet Coke so many times and then fallen off the wagon. I'm off it at the moment. It's not the Coke itself that's the problem really, just that it makes me crave salty things like crackers and Pringles.

FiveShelties · 23/09/2025 22:59

Oh, can I join too please? I have been messing about for months losing weight and then regaining the same weight - too stupid.

I was 10st 7lbs on Monday 22nd and would love to be under 10 stone. I am really good Monday to Friday at 6pm and then all bets are off! Too much wine, often accompanied with cheese and crackers, crisps or ice cream late at night is my downfall and must stop.

I am so sorry you lost your dog @Clitmandu. I have had dogs all my life and it is just so unbelievably painful to lose a much loved pet.

@ClaredeBear I'd say endure, rather than enjoy šŸ˜†

NotnowMavis · 24/09/2025 10:45

I’m trying to restart a bit of exercise. I used to be very fit (for my advanced age, that is) but I’ve had a hell of a year and it all fell by the wayside. Isn’t it interesting/sad that when women’s lives get busy/stressy/hellish, very often we stop looking after ourselves? Massive generalisation I know, but I think it’s often true and certainly true for me. Anyway off to Pilates now for the first time in a year. Pray for me.

MiddlingMarch · 24/09/2025 14:19

Hope pilates went well @NotnowMavis

I enjoy exercise, it's the food intake I struggle with. I walk every day, row 3x a week. I have programmed myself into doing this as standard.

There's just so much information out there, I don't know what to do with it. I just listened to one of Dr Rangan Chatterjee's podcast episodes with a menopause exercise specialist who says perimenopausal women shouldn't do long workouts and should do HIIT or SIT and shouldn't do "eat less, move more", instead we should eat more and lift heavy and move more but faster. And no fasting. And walking doesn't do enough for us.

But others say we should fast. And lift heavy. And walk. And have a calorie deficit of 500 calories, or 200 calories.

So much information, I get overwhelmed trying to figure it out.

For now I will keep going with what I'm doing and tweak if I need to.

Alioopsidaisy · 24/09/2025 20:26

That is so true no carbs, carbs, TRE or small frequent meals. Don't go lower than your BMR cals or don't go higher than 800 cals. Please could someone just make my meals for me and ill eat them???
