What we ate today in a calorie deficit - whole food edition (and how do we feel?)

I am on a long running ‘what we ate today’ thread, but I am currently trying to cut out ultra processed foods and Eat a (mostly) whole food diet. Mainly because I am really suffering with a looooooong list of minor ailments that are not independently any issue but as a collective, they are really dragging me down. My plan is to do the next 30 days (barring a weekend away) and to see if I notice any improvements, while also sticking to my calorie and exercise goals.

Morning all. I joined this thread at the beginning but I’ve ended up lurking more than posting in the last few weeks. I’m planning to start posting again more regularly.

Yesterday:
B - Spinach and scrambled egg
L - Chicken salad and satsumas
D - Prawn stir fry. Berries & Greek yogurt
S - Cottage cheese with celery & carrots

@CortieTat Your menus and photos are really inspiring. It’s so lovely to see the photos alongside the types of food. No worries if you’d rather not share this, but I wondered what your height and weight are?

Thank you so much. I try not to share proper junk (midweek birthday cake anyone?) unless it’s cooked/baked at home, especially by DC.

I’m 161-163 cm (depends on who measures) and 52 kilos. I’m also petite - narrow wrists, small feet, small frame.

Autumnleaves82 · 17/07/2025 16:37

Thanks for replying @CortieTat Have you always been able to eat so many calories? Am I right in thinking you’re currently breastfeeding? Do you maintain your current weight normally on a similar amount of calories?

Sorry for all the questions (and I know this is not specifically a weight loss thread) but I think I have a similar body type to you (petite, small framed but a bit shorter at 5ft2) and I’m trying to work out if I maybe need to increase my calories. I’m currently 8st10, but my happy weight is around 8st. I’m trying to lose those extra 10 pounds (so seems strange to think about increasing calories), but also not sure if I’m eating enough to fuel my generally active lifestyle and Caroline Girvan workouts.

CortieTat · 17/07/2025 17:11

@Autumnleaves82 yes, I am breastfeeding, DC is 4 months old and ebf. Before getting pregnant last year I lost weight - my plan was to lose 10 kg, ended up losing around 13 and I had to eat approximately 2000 a day otherwise I kept losing weight, but I also ran regularly and trained martial arts before getting pregnant.

I noticed that I snack much more since the little one was born, my weight has been very slowly going down nevertheless.

I haven’t been on diet before 2023, unless stunts like surviving on cottage cheese to buy cigarettes and beer during my uni years count as dieting.

Yesterday

Overnight oats
Chickpeas and mushrooms from yesterday
Thai takeaway (red curry duck, extra hot, 1/2 portion)

Snacks: two coffees with oat milk, way too much Norrlands Leväjn, 1 caramel biscuit 🍪

2396 kcal, quiet day - short walk, 8 Brocade Qigong, advanced hypopressives flow

Yesterday:

Overnight oats
Thai takeaway (the other half from yesterday)
Chickpea and mushroom curry (leftovers again)

Snacks: three coffees with oat milk, smoothie: silken tofu, oat milk, banana, matcha

2091 kcal, 10 km walk, CG Calisthenics HIIT. It was the last workout from the series and I am done! Quite challenging, Les Mills Grit is harder. I had SPD in pregnancy and I still can’t do anything that resembles Copenhagen planks so I ended up doing more burpees.

funny, we had midweek birthday cake made by my dd this week!

I have got a RENPHO scale this week, sadly my metabolic age is 7 years older than my real age and my dh who is 11 years older than me is biologically younger than me 😭

I am going to focus more on weighing and filling in my food on chronometer app, but love your posts @CortieTat and find them inspiring so will lurk even if not always posting.

welcome @Autumnleaves82

yesterday was ok ish from a cal and macro perspective, but would have been better with fruit instead of two penguin chocolate biscuits and white floppy toast for snacks…

bf skyr and low sugar granola
lunch Turkey kale, carrots butter bean etc stew again
dinner chicken, roasted veg, peas and baby leaves and a v small portion of aubergine pasta.

post workout I had vital proteins cocoa collagen - it’s kind of yuk but I had it over ice (not blended) with a small amount of cows milk and found this better than the other ways I tried it during the week.

Workout CG iron 14 and a sunset walk in the park by myself (family all bickering so I sneaked off for some peace!)
cals 1795

CortieTat · 19/07/2025 14:34

Wow @Clearingaspace the scale looks impressive! Ours is at least 15 years old and although it often shows that I have 23% body fat it also sometimes shows that I’m a boy 😅.

Yesterday:

Overnight oats
Cake pops (made by DC)
Salade niçoise

Snacks: two coffees, Norrlands Leväjn (two pieces), grapes (approximately 10), yoghurt.

DC made industrial amount of cake pops and I decided to mitigate the damage by eating them for lunch. Big mistake, I normally never eat after dinner and yesterday I was hungry like a Very Hungry Caterpillar despite eating salade niçoise that normally keeps me full for ages.

2269 kcal, short walk (3 km), it’s very hot. Yoga and stretching.

This is François, he is a kombucha starter. In this weather he saves the day - I drink kombucha mixed with sparkling water or straight from the bottle. François likes to eat the cheapest green and English breakfast tea and plain sugar. I bought him on Amazon and he comes from France, hence the name. We used to have Heinrich (from Germany) but after a few years of faithful service he became poorly one day and died.

@CortieTat my mother used to grow kombucha in our airing cupboard when we were kids, I remember a big bowl of it with a tea towel and this huge gelatinous disc of fungus!

@thenewaveragebear1983 @CortieTat we have two. Now I need to name them! They had a lot of babies so we've been spreading them around to our friends. Some of them are happy.... Some of them don't look at us the same any more. I haven't told them about the kefir creatures we have yet, which I think is delightfully odd

CortieTat · 22/07/2025 10:37

We are on holiday, visiting various family members who haven’t seen the baby yet so I am not checking this thread regularly.
I have access to långfil again, which is great, but it’s much harder to meet the daily fibre quota when I am eating whatever is offered.

CortieTat · 13/08/2025 15:15

How is everyone doing? We are back home (older kids starting school this week). Had good holiday - lots of hiking, lost a kilo (not intentionally), ate more crap than usual but moved more.
Inspired by @Clearingaspace I treated myself to a working body analysis scale, and I am in love. It’s the most basic Withings model.
