Any serial diet failers want to give it another go?

After all, it is Monday and Mondays are a good diet starting day!

I've pretty much hit rock bottom and am really down that I can't seem to sort myself out.

There have been many failed attempts where I lose a few pounds then feel pleased with myself so I scoff loads of chocolate to celebrate my loss. Rinse and repeat.

I am now 12st 7, I weighed myself first thing.

Anyone want to give it another go?

Well done everyone, keep at it!

Last Monday: 13st 7lb
Today: 13st 2lb. (I'm 5ft 8")

I don't think for one moment that I have lost 5lb of fat. I've been eating so much better and have been much less bloated, so suspect I'm also retaining less water.

Unfortunately, I'm currently having a horrible period combined with a bad cold, so I'm craving sugar and carbs. I'm resisting, but it's so hard!

NerrSnerr · 04/03/2025 07:37

Last Monday 12st 7
Today 12st 4.5

I'll take that as I had quite a bad weekend (ended up with a pizza after my car broke down).

Back on it today and looking at getting under 12 stone. Well don't everyone on their losses.

That's a brilliant start! Well done! 👏

Well done you! 2.5lbs in a week is fantastic! I'd be thrilled with that!

Can I join too please?

I have put on almost two stone in the last two years and I’ve felt so unhappy with my weight for a long time.

Last Monday I decided it was time to take action so I have reduced my calorie intake to 1200 a day and have started doing an hours exercise a day.

I did struggle with the reduced calories though, I started feeling tired and light headed so I have decided that on every 3rd day I would have a ‘normal’ meal for my evening meal. It also gives me something to look forward to….it helps to eat nothing but potatoes and salads for two days when I know I can have a chicken Kiev on the third day 🤣

I have so far lost 4lbs in two weeks so although I’m feeling really happy, I also know that sticking to diets is not my strong points. I think this is another reason why I allow myself to have one “naughty” meal every 3 days, I think I am more likely to stick to it if I’m not having to sacrifice all my usual tasty foods.

My plan is to lose another 1.5 stones with no real ‘date” in mind, it will just be a case of carrying on as I am and seeing where it takes me.

tealandteal · 06/03/2025 06:27

Well done everyone on your losses, how are you all finding this week? I am finding it tough to stay motivated re diet but am enjoying the exercise. @NorthernGirl1981 I think that allowing yourself some small treats will help you to continue to stick to your diet for longer. My problem is I want a big treat! You can ask ChatGPT for some meal ideas based on things you like within your calorie range if you want to get away from potatoes and salads.

wizzler · 06/03/2025 08:15

I'm struggling this week and the pancakes on Tuesday definitely didn't help . Full of cold and feeling mopey.. need to get back in the zone

NorthernGirl1981 · 06/03/2025 08:28

I’m doing well……although my body is very sore from my home workouts.

To an outsider it doesn’t look like I’m doing much high-impact fitness work but as long as it leaves me sweaty and breathless then that’s good enough for me 🤣

Pancake day was HARD and as I sat there watching my husband and our children tuck into them, all covered with chocolate spread and sugar I nearly broke 🤣. How I managed to avoid the temptation I have no idea!!

But last night was “naughty tea” night so I treated myself to a crispy chicken burger with red onion and it was heaven!!! It wasn’t as many calories as I thought it would be either so a double bonus!

Greenfingers37 · 08/03/2025 17:48

I've weighed today and am 4lb down since last Monday! It's my first proper week so am delighted!
I haven't eaten until midday, gone very low carb and cut out the vino. I feel very 'in the zone'- hope it lasts!

ForAzureSeal · 08/03/2025 21:53

In general I'm finding it helpful to log everything in my fitness pal to get a sense of where the "hidden" calories are day to day. I don't drink alcohol.

My main weakness is sweet things at work and in the evenings. I had a wobble when I was in the office one day and someone had brought cake.

I've mostly managed to ditch desserts and my original plan - cut my portions and add more veggies - seems to be working well.

I'll be interested to see if I manage to lose again this week at same rate as last week. I'm assuming not.

Bookaholic73 · 08/03/2025 22:38

2lbs down this week. Really pleased with that. Only 9lbs to go 😂

NorthernGirl1981 · 09/03/2025 09:50

Weighed myself this morning and I’ve reached my first target which was to be under 70kg. This morning I was 69kg 🥳

So I’m 5.5lbs down in two weeks which I’m happy with.

9kg to go!

GymWanker · 09/03/2025 09:57

Can I join in? I have totally sorted exercise this year and am really enjoying it and it’s become part of my day now.

Struggling to stick to any sort of diet though. Really need to lose a stone. 😭

@GymWanker oh congrats! do you have any tips on how you managed to sort exercise?

GymWanker · 09/03/2025 17:39

@birdcake - I am very fortunate to have found a reasonably priced PT who I share with my friend once a week - but he isn’t about ‘shreds’ he has read about my PMDD and adjusts my plan so that when I’m really suffering I can still exercise. He helped me get into the routine of going to the gym even when I was feeling like I wanted to just doom scroll and it’s made me see the benefit - if that makes sense? Now if I’m low or sluggish I know going and squeezing in a gym session or even a quick run will actually stop me feeling awful! That teamed with the privilege of being freelance which means I can go at quiet times of the day!

plus - it’s an excellent way to avoid having to empty the dishwasher 20 million times a day, which is what I feel like I always seem to be doing 🤣

edited to add: I think my biggest tip is to not look at it as weight loss but a mental health essential. And also be a bit selfish sometimes. I’m such a people pleaser but now I know how exercise makes me feel I have started putting myself first.

@GymWanker oh congrats! that sounds good. I don't think I could deal with a PT but I think I could manage the gym once or twice a week. I know what you mean about the dishwasher LOL. I WFH too and household chores seem to be all day every day!! But yes would def be better if I could be out and about rather than doomscrolling and bloody cleaning :) thank you for the info :)

Hopefulblogger · 09/03/2025 17:53

I would like to join as well! I don’t know about the pill and weight gain but I have put on about 10lbs in 6 weeks since being on the pill. Stopped it now to change to another one but to be honest, I think I have just been eating more so need some accountability. So would like to do the Monday weigh in and see how I get on!

Hartleyhare1206 · 09/03/2025 20:48

Hi!

Please may I join you all? Ive spent most of my adult life either seriously on the diet waggon or eating like my life depends on it, and have been everywhere from 11 stone to 15.9 stone, and have hit every single number inbetween, many times over. I’m tall so kid myself I carry it well, but I don’t, I’m a lardarse!

I currently have the bonus added help of wearing Invisalign braces which I’ve had for a few weeks now, and if any of you know anything about them, you’ll know that you have to wear them for 22hrs per day and can’t eat or drink anything other than water when wearing them - so my ability to snack has vanished!! I’m a guest at a family wedding in August and was really excited at the prospect of photos of me that won’t involve me smiling awkwardly and trying to stop my wonky teeth showing!! Then I realised there’s no point having nice teeth in a photo if my giant bum and belly eclipse my smile! So I’m trying to take the forced opportunity seriously. No snacking is great but I’ve realised my meals need to be healthy and substantial to keep me full for longer and avoid sugar spikes and crashes so I’m making much better choices and as a result have gone from 15.4 stone to 14.5 stone in the last few weeks. But there’s obviously a lot more to go; so wondered if I could do my “Invisalign diet” alongside you guys for added accountability and motivation please?! Xx

NerrSnerr · 09/03/2025 20:59

I have had a terrible week but going to get back on it tomorrow.

NerrSnerr · 09/03/2025 21:31

Right. After my short message I have been reading back and you're all making me really motivated to get my arse in gear.

I need to get motivated to exercise- that makes the difference for me. Tomorrow I am going to get up early and go for a short run. I'm also going to start an Apple fitness 8 week challenge. I need to strengthen my body as it's getting so weak, I think the menopause is hitting it hard so I need to fight back.

myplace · 09/03/2025 21:44

May I join? I’ve accidentally started to diet by finding the food log on my Fitbit. I’m finding it so easy at the moment.

Over lockdown I lost a lot with Slimming World. I couldn’t stay at target though and stopped going last autumn. Basically I was paying every week to feel miserable and put weight on! So I took a few months off to concentrate on better mental health.

I weighed for the first time Friday, so complete the set up of my Fitbit. I’ll stick to Friday weigh ins for the moment, but might move gradually to Monday as I get more comfortable.

I am finding the visual record of calories out, calories in and the food log very motivating, also tracking calories out. I can see where I went for a walk and where I spent a couple of hours on the sofa. I think I will do much better with that visual feeding my brain.

I have had a terrible week but going to get back on it tomorrow.

Me too. Just veered completely off track.

NerrSnerr · 10/03/2025 07:27

Just weighed in

Start Weight 12 stone 7
Week 1 12 st 4.5
Week 2 12 stone 5.5

I knew I would have gained as I have done no exercise and have eaten too much, still less than my start weight though so my chin is up and I'm back on it.

I got up early this morning even though I had a bad nights sleep and managed a mile run and then a 10 minute Apple workout. I love exercise and the feeling it gives me afterwards so really need to sort myself out and get into a routine. One of my New Year's resolutions was to take up Park run again so need to get on with that

6strings1song · 10/03/2025 08:08

Weighing in this morning.

Down to 12st 0.8lbs. So that is a 0.9lb loss for this week. Would have been nice to see it be 1lb, but had my period this week - so wasn't expecting a lot. I have had an ok week, and have done a lot of walking. Hopefully this week will see some shedding. Would be nice to see 11st on the scales again!

Well done everyone! Keep going!

wizzler · 10/03/2025 09:03

1lb down this week which is at least going in the right direction .

Happy that im staying broadly on track with healthy choices , or at least not as unhealthy as I would otherwise have had !

Going to try to do more exercise, though I had both ankles replaced in 2024 so I'm a bit tentative about walking too far and slowing recovery
