I know there are some old posts regarding fast800 but I was wondering if there's anyone else doing it currently, that would like to join forces and compare notes?

This came up on my feed today and after doing some reading, I've decided to start tomorrow. Anyone else?

Hi @HallStairsandLanding I think, though not everyone agrees, that TRE is kind of separate from Fast 800. It has its own benefits, and is a great add on, but if life means you can’t eat in a 6 / 8 / 10 window it doesn’t change the value of low cal & low carb WOE.

Agree with @Clearingaspace and @thenewaveragebear1983 that hormones can make weight loss harder. I am in a never-ending peri which is very draining. Hmmm.

Good day today. 5k run in the morning then portions of Okonomiyaki (Japanese cabbage pancake thing) for breakfast and lunch, 3 homemade meatballs, tomato sauce, and steamed green veg for tea. Plus a small teaspoon of peanut butter for a snack and lots of water. 😇

Only 29 more days like that to go. 😆

Clearingaspace · 13/03/2025 22:49

Welcome @HallStairsandLanding technically the plan recommends doing at least 2 weeks (no more than 12) of 800-900 without alcohol. You can go up to 1000 if keeping carbs under 50g. Then phase 2 is moving to 4;3 where on the up days/weekends you eat more calories but potentially still fairly low carb and maybe have a glass of wine or a spirit and slimline type mixer.

having said that I just realised I have a day off work tomorrow and I plan to have a glass of wine! I plan to keep carbs under 100 but not restrict calories (well under 2000). Apparently it isn’t advisable to drink alcohol on a v low cal diet day, I have done the blood sugar diet before so I know being strict really works but I want to see how it goes if I start off more relaxed.

if you basically want to stick to plan then 1000 cals but under 50g carb would be still on track but gives a bit of leeway. You could eat something like eggs to break your fast and save your carbs and most of your cals for a family meal - maybe with a nosecco or something

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/03/2025 07:37

I’ve really not had a great week, but I’m on it for the week ahead. Planned my menu, need to shop later. I feel like I’m starting from scratch again!

i’m going to stick to 2 meals this week, add lots of green veg to my meals, lots of water. I’m off work so I should hopefully have lots to keep me busy, I want to do a couple of runs and a couple of gym classes and have loads of jobs to do round the house.

VenusInfers · 16/03/2025 16:25

Sounds like an excellent plan @thenewaveragebear1983 . Having all the right stuff in the cupboards / fridge and a plan for the week makes such a difference.

I find I’m just doing the meals that I know work, and not stressing too much about weighing everything at this stage. That will come later I am sure. As someone who has hopped on and off this WOE a few times I am weirdly finding it easier to adapt each time. Not really hungry at all, just missing toast / pasta / wine etc cos they are nice. 🤣
Still find running v v hard after the first 20mins though as I am not well adapted to burning fat to power exercise. ☹️

How is everybody else’s weekend going? It can be the tricky with social engagements etc.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/03/2025 17:27

@VenusInfersoh yes, I am also finding running hard! Weirdly, I set out and feel amazing, then suddenly at around 4km I’m just dragging myself along. Don’t get out of breath, just my legs feel like lead. It’s definitely to do with fringe properly fat adapted, when I did it before I actually ran long distance fasted and on long term low carb, but I’m finding it very hard work at the moment

Clearingaspace · 16/03/2025 23:41

Would having your carbs before your run help or make things worse I wonder? Then a super low carb dinner?

I’m not too well, just had some toast and now sipping a lemsip, but hopefully either Monday or Tuesday I will be back to 800-1000 cals for a few days at least!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/03/2025 06:29

Re running, I find it’s actually the day before the run that you need the extra carbs. It’s because going low carb depletes all the muscle glycogen stores, these hold glycogen and also water. If you eat eg a banana, you get blood glucose , but it’s the long term store of glycogen that is low. This takes time to replenish and also requires water, which is then used up as the glycogen is used. It’s why people “carb load” before races. It doesn’t really transfer well into an overall low carb lifestyle, especially if you run frequently. The alternative is to battle on with the low carb and eventually you’ll be “fat adapted” which means your body knows how to use fat for fuel really efficiently. What’s probably NOT the solution is to run, feel exhausted, come home , then be ravenous and eat all the carbs after the run 🤦‍♀️ 🤷‍♀️

Clearingaspace · 17/03/2025 08:12

Ah ok, it’s a lot more complicated than I thought @thenewaveragebear1983 hopefully you will be fat adapted soon!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/03/2025 17:38

Textbook perfect fast800 day today 😇

no breakfast
black coffee
lunch- salad, halloumi and balsamic vinaigrette
dinner- cod loin baked with lemon and herbs, green beans, carrots and sprouts, 80g roast potato.
skyr and blueberries
sprite zero
40g roast pork

790 cals, 52g carbs
I went to the gym and walked the dog, plus I’m off work and have been decorating all day so lots of steps.

VenusInfers · 18/03/2025 10:10

Well done @thenewaveragebear1983 !

I did my first weigh in after 6 days and I am 2/5 of the way there - down 6lbs. Of course I KNOW it’s 80% water weight but frankly I don’t care. 😁
Can tell I am in ketosis as my whole body feels like it’s vibrating very slightly. Particularly noticeable at bedtime. Anyone else get that feeling? No? Just me? 😆
Today I’m in the office with apple & teaspoon of PB for breakfast & ham salad for lunch.

How is everyone doing today?

Fuckingfuckssake · 18/03/2025 11:10

Joining to ask where I went wrong! Just had to give up on day 2 due to vomiting and being unable to keep any food or fluid down, I had actually eaten 800 cals but brought it all back up, I’d been drinking lots of water. Felt absolutely awful, could’ve coped with the headache and the nausea but after the third time throwing up in as many hours I had a bowl of bran flakes!

KrazyboutKillian · 18/03/2025 12:51

@Fuckingfuckssake
i doubt it’s the diet , sounds like you have a bug , start again in a few days when you feel better

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 18/03/2025 14:04

Have done this for on and off for years wouldn't try anything else, as this is sustainable and the recipes can be integrated into everyday life even if you're not dieting. 😃

Top tips, dump regular tea for black coffee or fruit tea. No calories. Headaches can be brought on by caffeine withdrawal so watch out for that.

Stick to the full fat milk, yogurts etc they help you stay full for longer and reduce snacking urges.

Alcohol is my downfall as I don't really like to drink neat spirits.

I've got a few favourite recipes if anyone would like me to post some. I know not everyone has the books.

I've added a couple here anyway.

God bless Michael Moseley.

Thanks for the reply, the sickness stopped as soon as I ate the branflakes, I am a very nauseous person generally so wouldn’t take much. I bought the Fast 800 book and the recipe book and did everything I was supposed to but honestly I’ve not felt so ill for a long time!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/03/2025 19:31

@DangerQuakeRhinoSnake I’m always up for recipes. Those blueberry pancakes sound good for a weekend brunch

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/03/2025 07:00

Just did a mid week weigh in and I’m down 2.2lbs already, I love this plan when I have time to do it properly! The whoosh is real.

Today, I am going to walk the dog, and it’s going to be sunny so I’m going to go for a very slow leisurely run once it’s warmer up a bit. I have some more decorating to do. I’m going to have feta salad for lunch, and lemon and oregano chicken for dinner in a traybake with brocolli, tomatoes, peppers and garlic , plus batch up a load of spicy chicken for the freezer.

I went a bit over on calories yesterday so today I’m aiming for a strict 800 again, although if I recall I don’t need to count green veg?

Just popped in to say I am almost at the end of my Fast 800 Keto journey - lost 22lbs since beginning of Jan (11st 7 to 9st 13) and found it so effective! Good luck everyone and stick with it, it works 💪

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/03/2025 21:29

@DangerQuakeRhinoSnake thank you! I’ll be doing the beef stroganoff for sure and the plums!

Clearingaspace · 20/03/2025 01:12

your meals really sound so lovely @thenewaveragebear1983 - do you have any tips re meal planning or prepping? Reading your meals - prompted me to start digging out the recipe books! how did today go.

how are you now @Fuckingfuckssake are you going to try again?

@DangerQuakeRhinoSnake amazing you have been doing this for years! I have most of the books and am so sad that mm won’t be able to update us with the latest research and updates anymore - obviously much sadder than just that, but it was a testament to him how genuinely upset people were/are.

6lb is amazing @VenusInfers

I have had a bad cold virus so haven’t been on plan at all. It’s also occurred to me that every time I try to do a 5:2,version of this diet I end up unwell. But when I do low cal consistently I don’t think that happens - how weird is that? Probably a coincidence I guess! I am going to aim for 3 fast 800 style meals tomorrow but not going to log and weigh etc.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/03/2025 06:58

@Clearingaspacei had a good day thank you, in fact, I’ve had a really good week. I did have more than 800 calories yesterday, I ran 10km and I was so ravenous I had extra yoghurt, fruit and some nuts, so went up to 1100. I needed it though and better than ending up eating biscuits or toast!
i do plan my meals every week, including lunches and snacks. Takes a bit of time but it does make the whole thing easier. I tend to do a lot of variations of chicken or mince. The chicken I had last night was so simple, I actually bought 2 lots of 2kg chicken thighs, stripped them off the bones which gave me 3kg thigh fillets (much cheaper way of buying them if you have 30 mins to fillet them, I do mine with kitchen scissors) then I bagged up 3 lots of 1kg. 2 in the freezer! Then I just added lemon juice, squeeze garlic, loads of herbs. Bake on a tray. The chicken is so juicy you don’t need oil, it doesn’t dry out, and it makes a lovely sticky coating. You can do any seasoning so: yoghurt and tikka spice, 5 spice and soy, lime, ginger etc. and it makes such an easy meal. I add veg to the tray to bake it. Kids have theirs with chips or rice, I just have veg.

I am down another little 3/4 of a pound today, currently 156.6, down from 160 on Monday! I do love this plan, I have been a little hungry but to be honest, I’m “hungry” when I eat 2000 calories as well so 🤷‍♀️

Clearingaspace · 20/03/2025 07:47

@thenewaveragebear1983 i will defo try that chicken thanks. Do you use the prepared garlic in a squeeze tube? And well done on your losses this week! Oh and very true about feeling hungry on 2000 calories - I mentioned on another thread but there seems to be something about this diet that suppresses hunger - when things are going well at least.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/03/2025 10:18

@Clearingaspace I think 1100 is the optimum hunger balance for me actually. 800 feels low, 1100 feels manageable, but once I go over about 1200 I find my appetite increases so much. I think it must be some sort of insulin response maybe? Maybe insulin resistance - I never knew until recently that when your stomach is full you release more insulin even if the meal isn’t high in carbs/sugar. You just pump out a bit extra in anticipation, which adds to insulin resistance which causes hunger and screws up appetite control. So the big plates of “volume eating” can be counter productive, even if it’s veg.

beautiful day here, I am going for a lovely mooch in habitat and b&m this morning, just for fun because I can 🤣 I made bone broth with my chicken bones from last night, and this morning I have added a load of onion and garlic to it, and a whole head of brocolli, but I need to get some Stilton to finish it off and I have a lovely high protein brocolli and Stilton soup 😋

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/03/2025 10:19

@Clearingaspace and yes, I use squeezy lazy garlic in the tube, so much easier than fresh!

CharliePoppins · 20/03/2025 10:56

Hoping I can join this thread! Aiming for 800 calories a day, 900 max. Will be aiming for a 12pm - 8pmish eating window. Decided to use Huel powder/shakes starting today (so tasty and easy), as currently have a 5w old DD and there's no way I have enough energy/time to weigh/calorie count each meal like previously.

Starting weight was 160lb last week, now 156lb. 😬Will weigh again on Monday. Want to lose 20 pounds minimum as I lost the plot eating crap during pregnancy.
