@thenewaveragebear1983 thank you for starting this.

Well 7th time lucky it is not for me.

I've lost a massive quarter of a pound this week! I'm adding on the 2 lb loss in the two days before this week to make myself feel better.

Yesterday I had nothing sweet in the house apart from Skinny Bars which aren't much fun. I kept prowling the cupboards but could find nothing so I made some scones and ate three 😳. They weren't even that good since I'd reduced the sugar content and probably overcooked them.

I thought if most people don't have sweet stuff in, they don't eat it but I'm a proper addict and yesterday I think I could have murdered a passerby for the chocolate bar in his hand.

So of course today I'm cross and fat! I really have to get a grip on this addiction and do some serious slimming. I do loads of stuff I've learned through my gluttony journey but sweet stuff always wins and I have to turn this around. I've been going to bed really early and I've walked the dogs further than normal apart from one day when it was torrential rain. I have to change.

Have a good Monday everyone.

poorpaws · 17/02/2025 08:13

@Sedgwick I hope your good sleeping habit continues and you feel better. It really does help to have a good nights sleep. Having said that since I lost Molly (and I'm not going to go on about it here) I've hardly slept and I'm like a zombie. Keep up the good habits.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/02/2025 13:02

@poorpaws I'm a sugar junkie too as you know. I can sometimes go completely cold turkey and have none, but I'm really working hard at incorporating it into my daily calories and actually learning to moderate. It's hard. But I know I can never live my life with nothing sweet/dessert, so I have to be able to have a small amount without always then ending up eating hundreds of calories.

Some things that are working for me right now:
Ritter sport minis- they are about 80 calories each but they are real chocolate and good quality chocolate too, not just palm oil and sugar. You get 4 little squares of chocolate in a mini bar, a bag of 8 minis was £2.49 in sainsbos
A full fat Greek yoghurt, on top of defrosted raspberries, with a spoonful of chocolate spread or peanut butter on it. Filling and chocolatey enough and sweet.
Baked oats made into a cake and cut into squares. I can share a recipe with you, they are filling, not too sweet but texture wise are cakey enough to be satisfying.

I have also been making myself snack boxes which I measure out the night before and work into my calories. Carrot sticks and hummous, blueberries, cubes of cheese, seafood sticks, olives, cherry tomatoes etc - then I can just grab one of those rather than reach for the convenience of biscuits or other snacks.

I lost 1.8lbs this week, now 159.4. Total loss of (only) 4lbs this year but I'm hoping that I've found my groove a bit now and it will be a bit more consistent.

Thanks for starting a new thread @thenewaveragebear1983 . Sleeping much improved @poorpaws , I do wake up during the night and sometimes need to read my kindle (easy gentle material) for a few minutes before sleeping again but being over 50 I think that’s pretty normal.

Hi all. After having an Indian ready meal for my breakfast, you may struggle to believe I feel quite in control of my diet now. However, I managed quite easily to avoid a takeaway tonight. Not sure if this was only because my customer didn't order one, but I do believe I could have managed.

A trip to Iceland couldn't even stop me refraining from picking up a ready meal to eat, although I was really tempted, I opted for a tub of grapes.

I'm becoming more and more determined to reach the 14 stone mark as soon as possible which I believe could be possible in a few weeks. I'm taking it day by day though.

Off for a few days holiday by the beach in a couple of weeks. What could possibly go wrong?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/02/2025 19:11

Bit of a tricky day for me today, I started well but this afternoon I descended into carnage, I went for a run and to the gym with my friend this morning and when I got home I just could not stop eating. I ate various sweet and savoury goodies, then as I had no kids and no dog, I had a little nap! I think clearly I was tired and dehydrated, I knew this, but I was too far gone to stop myself! Oh well.

Tomorrow me and my youngest ds and my adult dd are going to London tomorrow see Oliver the musical, I'm actually quite nervous, I don't travel alone very often. I've packed my snack box with some healthy bits and a few cans of Sprite Zero but inevitably there will be at least one meal out tomorrow, maybe 2. So tomorrow is pretty much a write off as well.

I would love to (re!)join after ooooh, many months! Sad to report that I still have around 70lb to lose, weight loss is really not going well for me...

My go to not-too-sweet dessert is this Alpro dark chocolate mousse, but then I do prefer dark chocolate to milk, it might not hit the spot for anyone who has a very sweet tooth!

Enjoy the show @thenewaveragebear1983 Smile I saw Oliver! years ago with Rowan Atkinson as Fagin. It was fab, hopefully yours will be great too!

TalkToTheHand123 · 19/02/2025 22:53

Hi all. I've finished eating the chinese ready meals I bought the other day. I didn't buy any more today when shopping and no real naughty food so after tipping the scales at 15 stone, I'm really hoping to drop some lbs soon.

Storyland · 20/02/2025 08:35

Hello! Sorry for going AWOL - I've had a general all around slump. Big case of 'I don't want to' in regards to anything and everything. So just buried head in the v sand for last couple of weeks.

But I want to get back on track (again) so here I am! 10st5 so gained in the last couple of weeks. Going to try and focus on just 1lb at a time.

Thanks for the new thread. Been enjoying all the recipe talk!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/02/2025 17:02

Oliver was wonderful, we had such a great day.

I'm really tired today and have struggled with sugar cravings, then my parents arrived with lots of treats for the kids so obviously I have eaten some of those, and some chocolate fingers that I also didn't need.

Dinner tonight is quite light, I have marinaded some chicken in lemon, basil and garlic and will cook it as a tray bake with cherry tomatoes and broccoli. I've hugely exceeded my calories today though. Will try to keep tomorrow on track. We are out for a curry tomorrow night but I'm still not drinking so it shouldn't be too bad.

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl hi, welcome back, how are you? You've missed nothing here with my weight loss, zero. How's Mr Clara, still being grumpy or have you managed to tame him?

It's great to have you back and I always, always think of you if the first of the month falls on a Monday 😀

@thenewaveragebear1983 thank you for all the sweet recommendations, I'll try them although I don't shop at Sains so I might struggle with a couple.

Oh dear, oh dear, all my plans, my brilliant plans for when the family left have gone to dust. I thought I would move mountains and create miracles with diet, fitness, housework but no!

I just don't seem to be in the zone and although I haven't weighed I feel I've gained again. I've never taken so long to get started before and I know I have to pull myself together but I just keep eating.

I won't stop being here, watching you doing well, I'll just have to go with the flow until I get better at this.

It must be bad because yesterday a complete stranger stopped me whilst walking the dogs and said I looked like I needed a hug and could she please give me one, I burst into tears.

I might be going shopping and to Nando's tomorrow with DD and the kids. The weather is foul here so I really hope it's cancelled. We had a meal out today and I'm supposed to be meeting SIL on Sunday for a meal. I don't eat out often and this week it's all come at once.

Have a good evening everyone.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 20/02/2025 23:47

@poorpaws I was just thinking earlier that March 3rd is a Monday, and the 3rd is near enough the 1st, maybe I should just take that as my starting point Grin

Mr Clara is still grumpy, sadly - he's actually desperate to lose weight himself but as he welds his bum to the sofa whenever possible, it's looking unlikely Hmm he's got a new game for his Xbox which he will play on for hours if he can (eight hours last Sunday!), his plans to return to the gym on February 1st after almost a year away seem to have been quietly shelved...

Sorry to hear your weight loss mojo is still in hiding, it must be lurking somewhere with mine! I wish someone had offered me a hug today though as I was desperately in need of one, what a kind stranger you met!

Glad you enjoyed Oliver @thenewaveragebear1983 ! A local theatre group are doing it later in the year, I'll definitely be booking tickets Smile

poorpaws · 21/02/2025 08:08

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl perhaps I should re-re (x 100) re-start my diet in 3 March too. I'm hoping to resume some sort of exercise when it gets warmer. I can't get into any of my summer skirts or most of my jeans. I am living in two pairs of jeans on rotation, it's very depressing but I don't do anything about it.

Yesterday was as bad as ever. We went to our cafe and I chose black coffee over my usual latte. I did swerve the ice cream parlour. We were surprised it was open this early on in the season and since DP had an appointment we decided to go on the way home but then walked a different route. And this is my big problem, because I'd done so well in the day, I ate loads in the evening congratulating myself on doing so well 🙈

We're going to Ikea and Exeter today. This is another problem, we don't go very often (maybe once a year) so I'll be enjoying a lunch and dessert because in my head it's a yearly treat 🙈. My mindset is totally crushed and has to be rebuilt.

Have a Good Friday everyone.

poorpaws · 21/02/2025 08:11

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl I forgot to say I'm sending you a big comfy, cosy hug. I know it's not as good as a real one but it lets you know someone cares. x

Storyland · 21/02/2025 10:19

@thenewaveragebear1983 your chicken tray bake sounds delicious! I want to try that one

@poorpaws I'm also thinking some lighter days and warmer weather will make a difference.

Friday means walking date for me this evening which is very much needed. Not had much time for relaxing this week so I'm looking forward to spending time with DH.

Tomorrow we are seeing a local production of Sweeney Todd and maybe going out for a meal beforehand. Would also like to tackle the garden tomorrow- needs a good clear out.

Hope you all have lovely weekends ahead of you!

Sedgwick · 21/02/2025 10:26

Having a good week here, just a couple of lbs off goal. Lots of fish and veg for dinner. The weekend is trickier though, I will try to stick with the plan. Six nations this weekend, I have replaced wine bottles with NA sparkling.

It did take years of restarts for me to finally find my mojo @poorpaws . I was slim (never dieted) until 50, menopause and lifestyle change due to covid, gained 3 stone. Tried to lose it for family holiday in Asia and didn’t, not a single pound. All the photos have fat lady in the same 3 kaftans. I think I was 55 (or 56?) when the Fast800 kickstarted me and this thread helped a lot too. Try to see it as a happy thing, a positive healing thing to give your body simple nutritious food. Maybe try to drop one unhealthy habit at a time. Settle into that and then drop something else. Make new healthier rituals. And you definitely need a new notebook for meal planning, grocery lists and recording your weight.

Welcome back @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl .

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/02/2025 13:52

@Storyland it was nice, I'd forgotten how much I like a good traybake. I am going to revisit some of my old recipes this week!

@Sedgwick I was thinking back to the old blood sugar/fast 800 days, contemplating a very strict 2 weeks just to give me a bit of a kick start on the scales. I am just bobbing up and down the same 3-4lbs at the moment, since January. I lose so slowly and can regain so quickly that after a day or 2 off plan I find myself back where I started. I know it's only water really but it's still very tiresome constantly seeing the scales back to square 1. I thought if I did the initial 2 weeks of fast800 I could at least get a bit of a head start on myself.

OP posts:
Sedgwick · 21/02/2025 15:13

@thenewaveragebear1983 I love the Fast800 but are you fully recovered now? You seem to be back exercising and working just like before your attack, has your GP said that’s fine now? Just worried you might be pushing yourself too much?

Pootlemcsmootle · 21/02/2025 15:25

Please ignore if this isn't helpful! But I couldn't get a diet to stick, ever. I was always hungry, wanted banned food etc. In the end I switched to exercising hard and I stopped craving stuff which is amazing. I moved to eating loads but of healthy stuff (eg piles of veg) because I wanted to feel like I was still eating when I wanted. It took the edge off of wanting sugary stuff. It's helped me a lot.

TalkToTheHand123 · 21/02/2025 16:16

Hi all. The only naughty food I bought today was spring rolls.

Agree @Pootlemcsmootle , filling up on veg has had some success for me.

I'm very new to this, but I'm starting to plan my food consumption, which seems to be helping, rather than just eating anything all through the day!

Anytime I feel a big binge coming on, I go for a glass of water. Seems to be helping.

I have a few days away on holiday next week so could be a challenge or a good time to set good habits.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/02/2025 22:05

@Sedgwick I am much much better now, I am still a little crooked on my mouth, (noticed today that when I smile the 'bad' side curves down and the good side curves up!) but that could even be 6 months or maybe permanently like that. But I am in myself a lot better.

@Pootlemcsmootle I sort of get this, but the exercising hard is not on my agenda at the moment. I also find that no matter how full I am, I still want sweet things- the only way I find to stop the cravings is to completely cold turkey on sugar. I don't know why, whether it's a hormonal/peri thing.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/02/2025 07:56

Morning all, happy Saturday! We have a very rare Saturday with no kids football! Woohoo! Not sure what we will do yet, but most likely use it as an opportunity to get a few jobs done, get ready for the week ahead and boring things like that. I will take Maggie for a nice walk now, then go to the gym for my class at 1.

We went out for a curry last night with the team parents, I had a stuffed pepper starter, a chicken dhansak and mushroom rice, no naan (but did have a bit of dh's) and we had poppadoms and dips etc. I'd not really eaten much all day so hopefully not too crazy a day, calories wise. I did order slimline tonics (still not had a drink this year!) but I think they were full sugar tbh but still better than a bottle of wine.

I am going to try a few weeks of fast800, as mentioned above. I just feel like i need a bit of a 'circuit breaker' and give myself a kick start. I've written my plan out but need to do the shopping order. One thing that always puts me off is the effect on my running but as I'm barely running at the moment it seems a good time to try it. After the 2 weeks I'll then possibly switch to a 5:2 sort of arrangement?

Anyway, have a good weekend whatever you are all up to!

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/02/2025 21:05

How has everyone's weekend gone? I've had a good one to be honest, but not sure if it will counteract my days off plan earlier in the week. I've stuck to my calorie limits and kept my carbs low as well so I'm pleased with that. From tomorrow I am going to try to do fast800 (well 800-1000) and see how I get on. I do really feel like I want a strict few days to reset myself, I think in reality the reason my weight loss is so slow is because I'm not actually in a deficit or enough of one to actually see any losses so this will at least let me see if that's true.

Tomorrow I'm back to work 😢 after a week off. I've planned my meals - yoghurt and blueberries, tuna salad, salmon stir fry and have prepped a snack box of cherry toms, sugar snaps, feta, crab sticks etc. I have made sugar free jelly with mandarins for after dinner. I should come in at 900 cals, 60g carbs. I will go for a run in the morning, plus walk Maggie. Lots of fluids.

It's my weigh in tomorrow, I don't think I will see a loss this week, too many off plan meals, but I am confident for next week 🤞

Hello all.

Had a nice weekend. DD had a tummy ache Friday night so we slipped gymnastics and walking and instead stayed in and watched Harry Potter

She was much better the next Morning so on Saturday we went for a walk together to a pretty village nearby. Was lovely. Sun was out. Did us all good. Then in the evening DH and I had our date night. Cocktails and theatre. Was really fun.

Had a wobbly start to Monday. Work provided free pastries. . . I had a couple and they were very good. Try to claw things back with an m&s prawn salad. Off to do a food shop soon and going to stock up on healthier items.

Hope you all are having a good Monday
