@LimeLime that's a shame, but do try not to get disheartened. It could be water retention?

@thenewaveragebear1983 I do hope so as I'm doing prep for a colonoscopy and unless there is serious movement this evening I'm a bit worried I will not be adequately prepared for it. I've just taken the second dose, wish me luck!

poorpaws · 03/03/2025 19:25

@LimeLime I'll wish you luck. You'll be fine I'm sure and I'd never weigh myself AFTER breakfast, it's obviously a false reading even if you didn't eat much.

@thenewaveragebear1983 well done, that's great but take it easy 4 lbs in two weeks is a big ask especially as you are quite tiny already.

The homemade sultana scones in the freezer have been screaming my name all day. So far I've ignored them and I'm going to bed early so they don't win.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/03/2025 20:08

Today I prepped:
Brocolli and Stilton soup 😋
Jelly pots with mandarins (3 pots.,45 cals each)
Hard boiled eggs for snacks
And for dinner we had delicious beef stroganoff from the simply cook kit (also delicious)

I also made these sort of corn flake coconut slice things, I remember them from school dinners as being called Australian crunch/australian biscuits - but they weren't called that in the recipe I found. Anyway, they were also delicious but very sweet (I did calorie count them and weighed each piece I ate 😇). But that does mean all in I am ending up on 1250 calories, a little over my goal, and 80g carbs.

It's pancake day tomorrow, I love them and will find it hard to resist them I think. Especially when tired after work and football and general Tuesday madness. But I will really be trying to stay on track. I suppose the good thing about aiming low is that then even if I do have something, I'm still not anywhere near my limit.

Midlifeshenanigans · 03/03/2025 20:32

Didn’t have a great day- succumbed to biscuits at work as I was feeling swamped by emails- I need to find a better stress reliever. I will have a pancake tomorrow as I want to get into better habits and got me part of that is being able to join in family occasions.

TalkToTheHand123 · 04/03/2025 19:44

Hi all. I totally forgot about pancakes. I decided to find out the full contents of the chest freezer.....5 packets of fish, 2 big packets of chicken, 8 packets of veg, 2 tubs of ice cream and 6 packets of lollies, so this will be my main staple for the next few days.

I joined a gym (again) last week, with the idea mainly to be an alternative to going to the pub and to give me more energy and motivation to exercise. It's £22 per month, cancel anytime and a 10min drive from home. 24 hour access and car park right outside so not up a bank or 10min walk away like last time!

I'm currently not planning on weighing myself unless I feel a noticable change.

I've taken (and eaten) a tub of chicken, fish and vegetables for tonight's shift. Having a few withdrawals for a takeaway pizza but should feel better for my choice later!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/03/2025 20:18

@TalkToTheHand123 that sounds like a strong plan.

I spent the whole day thinking about pancakes 🥞 at 3pm I would have given my arm for a biscuit I was so tired and craving sugar so badly. I hadn't really eaten enough all day and it was really hard. I got home and I had some brocolli and Stilton soup and generally picked at fast800 friendly bits- some chicken, an egg, some cheese, a sausage.... basically I ate over 500 calories of just nothing! Went out to football, and then when I got home I wasn't even hungry really so I'm just calling that my dinner. I made pancakes for the dc but when I worked out the calories it would have been 250 each with toppings. I was at a bit of a crossroads, so in the end I have decided not to have one. I wouldn't have managed to only have one so I decided I wasn't going to put the temptation in my way. In the end I had yoghurt, berries and a tsp chocolate spread.

Closing the kitchen tonight on 1200 cals,,65g carbs

LimeLime · 04/03/2025 20:19

@poorpaws I weighed myself as soon as I got up and am happy to report that I am only 0.1kg heavier. Much better, who's going to quibble about 100g.

poorpaws · 04/03/2025 20:35

@LimeLime yay! Lesson learned, never weigh after food. Well done.

I totally forgot about pancake day until tonight at around 8 o'clock when it was too late so I'm quite pleased about that.

I've not been brilliant today but I suppose it could have been worse. I had a roast chicken dinner tonight which was delicious. It was a large portion of dinner but I've still been hungry all night.

I've had two lattes and I'm only allowed one per day. Aldi had my favourite fruit ice lollies in so I've had two of those tonight too. I was still hungry at supper time so I've had some Shreddies and skimmed milk but they weren't very exciting.

DP bought me an Easter egg today whilst we were doing the food shop but I made him take it home because I just can't be trusted if he gives it to me too early.

I'm out for lunch tomorrow with SIL and it's usually a mega breakfast which really is large so I'll have to be careful for the rest of the day.

All in all it's not going brilliantly, but it's better than it has been for the last few months so as I keep repeating, tiny steps.

I hope you all have a good day tomorrow.

littlefox90 · 04/03/2025 20:45

Hi everyone, is it OK to join? I've been dieting for about a month, I say dieting but really just eating a little better as I could be taking it more seriously. Maybe this thread will give me the boost I need 😁

poorpaws · 04/03/2025 20:50

Hi @littlefox90 and welcome. It's lovely to have you here. Join in the chat and you'll receive so much support from our small group.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/03/2025 21:00

Welcome @littlefox90

To be fair to you @poorpaws that doesn't sound like a bad day at all really. Ice lollies are not high calories and I find the cold makes me not then crave other things. And 2 lattes isn't bad either. Do you use pods or make them yourself? If you make yourself, could you use skimmed milk? There's not much damage in a cup of skimmed milk and at least it has nutrient value too.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 04/03/2025 21:19

@thenewaveragebear1983 but that was just my evening eating not all day. I'd already had porridge with blueberries for breakfast and then parsnip soup and toast and an apple at lunchtime.

The lattes are sachets in a box of 8 and are 86 cals each.

I've got a coffee maker which is quite old but was very expensive in its day. Stupidly I put it and a lot of other electrical goods in the attic when I decided I needed more cupboard space. I've fetched it from the attic but haven't tried it yet as every other item I put up there including my Kenwood Chef went bang when I switched them on again because of the cold and damp I presume. I didn't think it out properly when I had my mad moment of moving everything around and it's cost me a small fortune in electrical appliances. I'd love a new modern coffee maker. Sadly I'd hardly used my old one, it looks brand new.

Sedgwick · 05/03/2025 11:36

Hi everyone, maintaining here, not much to report, eating Mediterranean diet as usual.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/03/2025 15:12

I've been really really hungry today. Actually, not hungry- just 'wanty'. Feel like I could just eat and eat and eat. I've drunk water and just tried ignore it so far. I'm at the drs this afternoon and it feels dangerous being out in town, all these bakeries and sweets everywhere! Tonight I have a Moroccan meatball recipe to try and it's quite carb heavy, with apricots and chickpeas in it. I'm having mine with cauliflower rice instead of normal couscous.

Hi all. I seem to have gone from takeaways to ready meals. Plan is to go cold turkey and stop the ready meals altogether now.

I was tempted to stop the gym membership but decided to continue (for now).

Hopefully I can stick to it and notice an improvement in body shape over the next few days and weeks.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/03/2025 21:44

My week descended into a bit of a free for all since my last post. I've felt constantly bombarded by food temptations and it has felt like a constant battle to resist, then when I have had things I've felt guilty and crap after eating them. I have felt very tired and hormonal as well, I sometimes get this mid cycle now (my age) so it is probably that, although I am also today feeling a bit under the weather and have developed a sore throat during the course of the day. I've kept a close eye on my calories and have tracked everything, but I imagine I will have scuppered my chance of a loss this week. I am all planned (in theory) for the weekend and week ahead, shopping coming tomorrow- but it depends whether I actually can get myself back in the zone

Good morning. What a beautiful sunny day yesterday, I always feel so much better when the sun is out ☀️

I had a good day in plan yesterday after a bit of a crazy few days at the end of the week. I'm not sure how it will impact the weigh in, hopefully not too much. Today I plan to walk the dog then go for a run. Lunch is salad and dinner will be roast chicken with brocolli cheese and lots of veg.

Is anyone watching the show Batch from scratch? It's good, it's really inspiring me to batch cook more and save money and time, plus I really want some nice freezer food bags 🤣

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 09/03/2025 16:43

Hi all. I'm taking it a day at a time at the moment and trying to use up food from the freezer and cupboards. Not much left so plan to go shopping soon.

I made a couple of tubs of fish and veg for my long shift today, changing from takeaways and ready meals from the local shop. I didn't get the chance to go to the gym yesterday but plan to keep going on an evening when I have the chance as it's quite nice going at this time.

I've set myself a challenge of keeping away from takeaways and ready meals up to the end of the month.

poorpaws · 09/03/2025 22:00

Oh my goodness have I had a time of it! I can't post on mumsnet on my iPad at all, I've been trying all evening and have just managed to do it on my phone. I'm so bloody frustrated.

So just a quickie until I can figure out what to do.

I've had the week from hell diet wise probably the worst in my dieting history.

Three meals out, our cafe had soon out of date cakes at 20p each and then the local spa had luxury donuts reduced in price and mini donuts too, I bought a lot, I ate a lot! I cannot stop eating!

DPs cat is in the last few days of her life, he is a wreck, I am a wreck.

I'm still grieving a lot for my dog and at the same time looking for a new rescue dog to help me heal. I'm ringing virtually every dog rescue that exists but trying to find a greyhound with low preydrive is nearly impossible.

I hope you're all ok and doing better than me. Until life settles down here I can't see my diet improving.

So sorry this is an "all about me" post but life is so difficult at the moment.

Wising you all a happy Monday tomorrow.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/03/2025 07:07

@TalkToTheHand123 it sounds like you are making some good sustainable changes

@poorpaws I'm sorry to hear you're struggling, and it sounds like those temptations have been right there at a time when you're already vulnerable to them! Try not to be too hard on yourself. I hope you have a better week.

I think I've lost a pound this week, which I'm pleased with. It's not quick weight loss, but gradually chipping away at it will be best in the long run. I didn't really manage fast800 last week, when I reviewed the week I had had an average of 1500 calories a day (which is pretty much what I have been aiming for all year 🤦‍♀️) This just shows that in order for me to actually hit that target, I need to aim for approximately half that 🤣

However, it's the first 2 weeks in a very long time where I have not exceeded my daily amount most days, and also where I have not eaten back my exercise calories, and over those 2 weeks I've lost 3lbs. So I do know what I need to do, although it is hard.

This week, I need to add more veg to my meals to keep me satisfied. I've bought spring greens (one of my favourite veg) and other veggies, and steam bag frozen veg as well, so will have one with every meal. I need to drink more water as well. I need to eat up some of my frozen meal portions, they are clogging up my freezer and I am not planning them into my menu so this weeks lunches will be a freezer meal plus veg.

I'm feeling positive about the week ahead, the sunshine has boosted me and I feel optimistic for a decent loss overall in March.
Have a great day and week ahead all ☀️

LimeLime · 10/03/2025 09:03

Ugh, failure. I'm up 1.4kg and not the least surprised as I have filled my face all week. I will definitely have to change that this week.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/03/2025 11:36

@LimeLime , no not a failure! Normal life just gets in our way sometimes. What do you think is the cause/could be the cause? Too much salt, high carb diet, did you eat a lot of bananas or eggs (can "slow things down" 😜) ?

And more importantly, what could you do differently this week?

  • more water?
  • lots of green leafy veg?
  • a walk after dinner?

I think we all know when we've not really been on it, and deep down we know exactly what we need to do to change it, but it's not always that easy. I think that sometimes compounds that feeling because we feel like it's such an easy choice, we're somehow idiots for not just doing it. I like to think of easy wins I can change that don't make any difference really to my overall week but can impact the scales. For example, only buying very basic apples and satsumas, no bananas, because if the bananas are there I will happily eat 2 every day (200 cals right there) whereas if they aren't, I just won't and I don't miss them. Similarly, I buy rubbish biscuits that I don't eat, I don't buy delicious seeded granary bread (can happily leave white sliced) etc etc.

poorpaws · 10/03/2025 12:58

Just another quickie because I've got to go out soon. We have to take DP's cat to be put to sleep this afternoon, so of course we've both been crying and I've been eating. 😱

I'll be back as soon as I can get my life back on track. I fear for some time now I should be looking to maintain, not lose, life is just too difficult at the moment.

Keep up the good work, everybody and I'll be back in no time

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/03/2025 22:35

Sorry to hear about your cat @poorpaws , you really have had an absolute run of the worst luck this year haven't you? Just be kind to yourself. 🌺
