I had a good day today, a strong start to the week. I'd gained last week, weighed in at 162.2 so a fairly big gain of 2.5 ish pounds. Understandable considering it's been half term but it's really annoying and frustrating. I'm still at the stage of gaining and losing water weight, so one night off means a big regain!

I started fast800 today. It's interesting how just having different food affects hunger, I genuinely did not feel hungry all day. I had a big salad for lunch, and salmon stir fry for dinner, and my snack box. Probably not enough water but will endeavour to drink more tomorrow. Walked woofer and went for a run after work because the sun was actually shining!

Tuesday is always my tricky day as you know. I'm all prepped, lunch sorted and snacks done. I have a tub of soup so that when I get in the door I can eat that rather than have my frantic half hour calorie fest!

Best of luck in the new regime @thenewaveragebear1983 . Hope it gives you a boost out of the holding pattern.

I've gained 2lbs. But at least today hasn't started with free pastries wafting beneath my nose. Brought a salad for lunch and will be having leftover prawn gumbo stew for tea. Will also try and do some exercise this evening. Maybe a dance work out with DD.

Won't be long now till it is light enough for me to fit in a run after work too. I do love Autumn and winter but it is easier to be active when the daylight returns

Hi everyone

Im just popping in for a quick update. I've had toothache and been thoroughly miserable for quite a few days. This morning I had a large rear tooth out which the dentist really struggled with and I think the pain now is worse than the toothache. The tooth was big and had three roots, one of which was bent so the tooth had to come out in tiny shards, a bit like glass.

Anyway, I haven't read your posts and will go back and do that and I'll catch up with everyone when I feel better.

Just to say the scales were really unkind on Monday and the tooth didn't stop me eating on the other side of my mouth. I've been thoroughly miserable and took comfort in food as always.

I'll be back soon, take care everyone.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/02/2025 19:54

Ouch @poorpaws , I had a back tooth out a couple of years ago and totally feel your pain! It felt bruised and my jaw was swollen for a long time after. I developed a dry socket as well, which wasn't painful but made me feel absolutely hideous with whatever infection was in it. Swilling very gently with lukewarm salty water was the only thing that eventually cleared it up! Then one day about a year later, I nicked the healed gum on some lettuce leaves corner of a delicious brownie and a tiny piece of bone fragment came out of the hole! And since then, no pain at all - very very odd indeed! All you can do is rest up and try to recover, they use tremendous effort to pull these teeth out and it really does leave you bruised and battered.

I had a good day yesterday and today. Instead of my usual Tuesday feeding frenzy, I microwaved some tomato soup and ate that, it definitely helped me resist the bad stuff. Then after football I had the other half of the soup, and 2 Ryvita thins and grated cheese. It was a nice satisfying meal for not many calories. I have gone over my fast800 calories today but 60g carbs and I'm very pleased with that.

Oh, and I was offered a position at work today, with no interview (as it's a straight move to another side of my team) and a small pay increase- so that's very positive! I feel very optimistic, I have found my current role really boring and my line manager who is very kind but incredibly overbearing/micromanaging is starting to really affect my self esteem, so I am totally chuffed with this offer.

Congratulations @thenewaveragebear1983 great news. Sounds painful @poorpaws, I did wince reading that!

Maintaining here, had a traybake last night, left over roast chicken, tomatoes, garlic, onion, courgettes, cauliflower and chestnut mushrooms, lots of herbs. Tonight is lentils, onions, garlic, courgettes, broccoli, mushrooms, spices, herbs and purple sprouting from the garden.

poorpaws · 26/02/2025 13:46

I still havent read back but I will.

@thenewaveragebear1983 it can't possibly be as bad as what you've been through recently but still painful and swollen right up to under my eye.

DP took the dogs out as I didn't want to get cold into it. The pain last night was horrendous but today just a dull ache.

Many congrats on your new roll, that's fantastic news and a little extra cash is handy. I still haven't got over £95 for taking one tooth out.

@Sedgwick the traybake sounds really lovely, I could just eat that now.

I bought all the ingredients for a spaghetti bolognese type meal with different layered cheeses, a bit like a lasagne I suppose. The recipe left my phone and a blank screen appeared and I couldn't find it so I made it up as I went along and actually it was quite nice, although not at all slimming.

I'm having an easy afternoon looking for some new boots. Have a good day everyone.

LimeLime · 26/02/2025 14:17

Went and introduced myself on your old thread but have found my way over here. Here's what I said;

Hi, can I join you? I had been losing weight, but since going on insulin for my type two diabetes a year ago my weight has slowly crept up and then remained steady. Steady is better than gaining, but really I need to be losing weight. My main problem is portion size, I eat all the right stuff but about twice as much of it as I need.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/02/2025 15:59

@poorpaws it takes time to recover from these things, it feels small because it's "just" a tooth but they aren't meant to be yanked out with force and it can take a while to recover. Just be kind to yourself 🌺

Hi @LimeLime, welcome!

I've had a good 3 days, my appetite seems to have really calmed down which is weird because I've cut my calories a lot. But for me the Mediterranean style diet really works. Tonight I'm having pork shoulder steaks, with mushrooms (bought swanky designer mushrooms and everything) which I am going to pan fry then add a spoonful of garlic and herb Boursin 😋 and lots of green veg. I have made some sugar free jellies with tinned mandarins which are 40 calories and I will have that for dessert, coming in at around 900 calories (so almost fast800) and around 50g carbs which is the key. I am going to go for a very slow run after work, it's been lovely and sunny today and feels a shame to waste it.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/02/2025 16:05

Oh and yes 🙌 to the traybake! I always forget how bloomin lovely they are. My favourites are fish with curry spices and little new potatoes and sliced peppers, or chicken thighs with lemon and garlic cloves so you get a nice sticky lemony garlic sauce. Also with mini new potatoes

If anyone would like a link to a FREE Simply cook box (they are like recipe cards with the seasonings, a bit like hello fresh but you have to buy the actual raw ingredients, the box contains just the herbs/spices/ dried things), I can send one, I just signed up and got a code. You have to unsubscribe after your first box but actually I think I might do a monthly subscription, it's 9,99 for 4 meals. I love trying new curries and other things but don't have the seasonings in stock and end up wasting them, so it's perfect for me, plus hello fresh always seems very pasta/rice heavy. Anyway, I can send you the link via message if you would like it

Welcome @LimeLime , what do you typically eat at the moment? What worked for you before going on insulin? Do you have a goal weight? I love the Mediterranean diet and cook from scratch, works for me. Crisps and wine are my weakness.

LimeLime · 26/02/2025 18:19

Thank you for the welcome thenewaveragebear1983 and sedgwick.

What worked was not snacking, but I'm a very snackish sort of person. What I usually eat is good, giant salads with hummus or tzatziki, multigrain sourdough toast, lots of pulses, fish, beans, but then I snack. The last month I have had a terrible cough which curbed my appetite quite a bit, but I'm better now and back on the full munchies. My diet is mostly vegetarian, no cheese or soya as I have an intolerance, and fish. But you can undo a lot of good work with chocolate.

poorpaws · 26/02/2025 21:35

Hi @LimeLime lovely to have you here. 🙋‍♀️ I'll introduce myself, sadly I am the failure of the group. I do have incredible support without judgement but I'm in a rut I can't seem to get out of. Chocolate and anything sweet, that's my downfall and luckily I don't drink alcohol. I hope you enjoy our thread.

At last the pain has gone but my face feels twice its size on the right hand side. It isn't of course but it feels massive.

I've given myself another talking to and I have to knuckle down <sigh> . I fear yet another gain this week.

LimeLime · 26/02/2025 21:45

Thanks for the welcome @poorpaws. I'm only fairly confident I'll lose this week because I'll be doing bowel prep for a colonoscopy so I'm not going to be feeling massively hungry whilst stuck in the bathroom with nothing but clear fluids to cheer me up. I've already had to give up bran for the week, so no porridge, and guess who swapped that for frosted flakes, I'm my own worst enemy.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/02/2025 22:29

Oh @poorpaws you are most certainly not the failure of the group! We have all had our ups and downs, you will be on the up again soon.

@LimeLime your diet sounds good, I am like you and love the snacks! One thing that's really helping me at the moment is planning everything I eat including my snacks so that I don't just go mindlessly into the kitchen when i'm hungry. I bought nice snack boxes and I prep it all in advance. Carrot sticks, crab sticks, cherry tomatoes, hummus, satsumas etc- all low calorie and stop me eating biscuits!

OP posts:
Sedgwick · 27/02/2025 10:37

@poorpaws you have had a very difficult few months, absolutely not a failure. Your only fault is not putting yourself first. I would forget about your weight until your mouth has healed completely, if that takes a couple of weeks so be it. Just try to avoid the obvious really fattening low nutrition stuff. If you have the energy maybe make some soup or just buy some.

@LimeLime your usual diet sounds delicious. I am not a snacker, I am comfortable with one meal a day which I know horrifies a lot of people! Do you like apples or boiled eggs? Both handy and healthy snacks. My go to small meals if I am hungry is a tin of pilchards/sardines/mackerel.

So I weighed myself this morning thinking I must have lost a couple of lbs as I have eaten so much veg this week and no slip ups. I have gained 2 lbs! Looking at my food diary it appears you can actually eat too many pulses. I am going to have to weigh them in future at least until I learn what a normal portion is. It’s a beautiful sunny day here so I am going to pick up branches broken off by the recent high winds. We have a 4 acre garden with mature trees so lots to do. My DH will faint to see me doing something in the garden.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/02/2025 09:59

Good morning, happy Friday. It's also payday for me, about time! And it's first of March tomorrow, can you believe it? Spring is here (or will be soon). It's cold and trying to be bright here today, I'm going to go for a run at lunchtime as long as it delivers as promised.

I did a little weigh in this morning and I'm down 2.5lbs after 4 days on fast800. Water weight obviously, but it does need to go and I certainly feel a lot less bloated around my middle.

Dh just informed me we are going to go for a curry with friends tonight, so that throws my plans out a little. Although it shouldn't be too bad. I think I will go for a stuffed pepper starter and maybe a tandoori and salad rather than saucy curry and rice.

I'm feeling good. I have been a little hungry at times this week, and my calories have been low. I think it just shows to me how it's going to have to be really. Is 1000 a day manageable long term? Who knows? I will be continuing this week ahead and see where I am. It's nice to see an actual weight loss though.

OP posts:
LimeLime · 28/02/2025 11:29

Didn't do too well yesterday, managed to inhale a family pack of savoury snacks in addition to my usual meals. But today is a new day and I can do better. I'm in a good mood today as I've been out in the sunshine and I managed to walk further than I expected and I enjoyed seeing crocus in flower and the first few daffs. I've just had some soup by way of an early lunch as I had a very early meeting this morning about my pension so I feel pleased to have got that done.

Hope everyone enjoys the sunshine today.

poorpaws · 28/02/2025 12:04

I hope everyone is having a lovely sunshine day too @LimeLime. It was so frosty here first thing but the sun is out now and we've just done a dog walk which was wet under paw but still nice to be out without any rain.

At last my mouth is not so sore although my face is still swollen especially under one eye. I'm gargling with salt water to keep any infection at bay.

My eating has not been good with far too many scones and gorgeous jam made by my lovely neighbour. I'm back on the lattes too, I drink so many in a day.

I'm just a bit grumpy and sad atm and I am using food as my comfort which we all know doesn't work long term.

@thenewaveragebear1983 well done on the loss, that is a fantastic result. You are really in the right frame of mind atm and I need some of your positivity.

March tomorrow, that seems incredible. Perhaps the nicer weather will give me some motivation to eat less and move more.

Have a lovely Friday everyone, spring is on the way, time to start enjoying the sunshine ☀️.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/02/2025 14:42

@poorpaws thank you. I do feel like it's just clicked for me this week, that does happen sometimes. If does annoy me a bit though that really for me to see a decent loss, I need to raise my game to something as strict as fast800, its very low calories for me, and basically I can't have any comfort food (no sugar, bread, pasta, mash potato, etc etc) - it is getting easier the longer I go without but I will never not like or want those things, it will always be a decision.

I've officially done 2 dry months now as well, going to try to continue through lent to Easter, then reassess. I'm not religious but I do always give something up for lent.

Midlifeshenanigans · 01/03/2025 07:51

I joined the last thread but then had a bit of a meltdown and gave managed to 3lbs. I am starting again today- new month and feeling positive. I’m just going to tackle snacking this week and not worry too much about meals because I know if I start too strict I will binge.

poorpaws · 02/03/2025 17:21

Hi and welcome back @Midlifeshenanigans We all go through tough times with our eating and exercise, just stay with us. If it gets too difficult, which happens to the best of us, you'll get a lot of support here.

Soooo surprise, surprise, I've been so much better for the last two days (yesterday and today so far). It was the first of the month, the weather is getting better, I just thought "try harder girl" so I've been trying a lot harder. I've had fruit instead of chocolate, yes I appreciate it's still sugar but little steps.

I've stopped the one hundred (well it seems like that) lattes and I'm going to have one very occasionally, tonight in fact.

I have at least two, possibly three meals out this week (long story) but I'll make them my main meals and try to eat less for the rest of the week.

As I said it's tiny steps but a beginning and it is about time.

Have a good Sunday evening everyone. I'll be on the scales tomorrow morning and hoping the scales are kind to all of us.

poorpaws · 03/03/2025 07:44

Just a quickie, I've lost 1.5 lbs in the last couple of days and as I said earlier, it's about time. I'm hoping this is the start to being in the right frame of mind and it's thanks to @thenewaveragebear1983 for inspiration to just get on with it.

Woohoo! I know it's very early days and I have to navigate three meals out this week but it's a good start.

Good luck for a great loss this week for everyone,

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/03/2025 09:23

Good morning all
@poorpaws well done! 👏 I hope you continue to have a good week

I lost 2lbs last week, a tiny regain from Friday but still 2 overall. I'd like (at least) another 2lbs this week as well, I'm doing fast800 again and this week I have nothing to get in my way.

It's my non working Monday today, I've been for a walk in the cold sunshine. We still have plasterers in, should be the last day of mess, so I am going to use the time to do a bit of prepping and batch cooking, shopping order arriving later, and the usual ferrying children around and dog walking

OP posts:
LimeLime · 03/03/2025 10:12

Ugh, gained 1.8kg. How very demoralising. I suppose that accords better with the weight I was at the diabetic clinic this week, but not with the weight on my scales. To be fair I forgot to weigh myself before breakfast, but I definitely did not eat that much at breakfast.
