Lose 2 stone (12.5kg) with me before summer 💪

Journeyintomelody · 28/12/2024 07:15

Who's in? Weighed myself this morning and CW is 65.1kg although im not technically overweight, I am heavier than I like. My GW is 53kg.

I'm going to post my progress (and my strategy) every Saturday morning. It's mostly for my own accountability but I hope the thread will also help others.

Since being diagnosed with lupus and PCOS I have found it harder to lose weight. I also find that being a lower BMI reduces my symptoms. I put on 2 stone after having my baby which I would like to shift before my 30th birthday 😅 I'm also breastfeeding so my weight loss is going to be slow and steady. This isn't a competitive 'who can lose the most weight the fastest' kind of thread - it's about supporting each other over the long run. Feel free to join in wherever you are on your weight loss journey 😊

I am making a few changes to my diet.
Switching my hearty porridge and peanut butter for breakfast to scrambled egg (2 eggs on one slice sour dough) and coffee.
Lunch will be chicken and veggies.
Dinner will be a graze board - carrot celery hummus, apple slices, and rye bread with honey and cinnamon 😋
Ginger and lemon tea in the evening

If I get hungry between meals my plan is to have a couple of spoons of zero fat cottage cheese...

@Journeyintomelody I will join you. I need gentle life changes not dramatic diets, I'm tired of yo-yoing around. This year I started around 160lbs, I worked really hard and went on summer holidays weighing 149, but now I'm back up to 159 this morning! I lose weight so slowly that these tiny losses are so hard and one week 'off' undoes months of work.

Over Christmas I have had Bell's palsy, it's an autoimmune condition I think and now my focus is changing to needing to nourish and care for myself rather than just keep dieting and exercising. It doesn't work for me and I need a more caring and holistic approach.

I would really like to lose 20lbs by summer but 15 would be probably more realistic. I want to feel nice in my clothes again and in myself. Having had this with my face (my whole left side of my face has dropped, it's really painful and really noticeable, slurring words etc) has just made me rethink my perspective on how I look and feel and what's important. I've spent too many years hating the way I look and being unkind to myself over a few pounds of weight.

Journeyintomelody · 28/12/2024 12:40

@thenewaveragebear1983 I think that's a very healthy attitude towards weight loss. I'm actually quite looking forward to the process. One thing I have done is buy a share bag of chocolate buttons and put them in a left over coffee jar. I eat really healthy but one problem I've always had is underestimating the calories in 'health' foods. So rather than having yogurt, honey and seeds as a desert I plan to sub in 4 or 5 chocolate buttons to have with a coffee. Feels naughty, get a sweet chocolatey hit but a fraction of the calories. We will soon see if that works 🤪

Hello! I'd also like to join you. I'd like to lose a similar amount, and I have lupus too!

I was really good in the run up to Christmas, but I've since gone slightly mental on mince pies. I'm going to be a little more good now but still allow myself some treats until the 12 days of Christmas are over. Then I'm really going to cut the treats out, and focus on my health.

I also desperately need to start doing some proper exercise!

Cudz · 28/12/2024 12:52

Please may I join. Had a tough time emotionally since summer and as I'm an emotional eater I've totally self sabotaged by basically eating anything and everything. Determined to be back to 9.5 stone by late spring (currently 10 stone 10lbs). Will be tracking using myfitnesspal and will be getting back to my daily 12k steps minimum. Let's all do this together!!! Team work makes the dream work!!! X

worriedconfused · 28/12/2024 13:02

Me please 🫣

im petite, so really struggle, and need to get down to 9.5/10st ideally from current 12st ish!

no idea about then how just yet…

Stardogchampion · 28/12/2024 13:25

I'm in! I'm also breastfeeding (a toddler) and have hypothyroidism, though tbh I don't think that's what holds me back losing weight, my issue is mainly stress/binge eating. I'm currently around 70kg and would like to get to 60kg ideally.

Plan for me is good old fashioned calorie counting plus more regular exercise for stress management. I've tried low carbing in the past which I've found great for curbing hunger and controlling sugar addiction but find it hard to stick to. I will try reducing sugar and upping protein so meals will look something like this:

Breakfast: Greek yoghurt with nuts
Lunch: Eggs with vegetables or cottage cheese toast
Dinner: Vegetarian curry or pasta dish
Snacks: fruit or protein shake

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/12/2024 15:33

@Journeyintomelody that's an interesting point, some health foods are really high calorie and especially if it's not what you actually want it's a lot of extra calories. Nuts and seeds especially, I used to have a spoon of mixed seeds on my salads, added literally nothing in taste but added 100+ calories!

I'm still unwell today, my face is really sore and bruised feeling and I feel utterly miserable. I did venture out to Sainsbury's and bought some non Christmas food and I also bought a new notebook, essential for any new plan! I'm having one more day of Christmas party food and leftovers today and then I think from tomorrow I am ready to start cutting out some of the junk. I am supposed to be resting so no exercising for me yet, I have paused my gym membership and won't be running.

Dovestree · 28/12/2024 15:36

I'll join you, too. I was 72.5kg in November and I've stuffed my face this month and I'm now weighing in at 75kg 🫣. My goal is to get down to 67kg by May or so.

Journeyintomelody · 28/12/2024 16:12

@Tiggi7 A fellow lupus person! Thanks for joining ! 🙂

I’m in. Currently 76kg and need to drop to 63kg. Its hard to move the dial downwards as I both stress and boredom eat!

socks1107 · 02/01/2025 15:26

I was on this last year and lost two stone, need to lose the next two so will join again for accountability

AnxiousRose · 02/01/2025 23:16

Yes, I am in. I need to lose 20lb by summer.
A hard year last year plus perimenopause meant my weight crept up. Not happy with photos of myself over Christmas.

TheUndoing · 02/01/2025 23:29

Please can I join? I think losing 1.5 stone is probably more realistic for me than 2, but I’m also trying to lose the baby weight whilst still breastfeeding. So aiming to lose weight in a way that is gentle and focused on eating good healthy food (rather than the crash diets I’ve done in the past).

I’m planning on calorie counting but perhaps with an eye to eating slightly less carbs.

Theuniversalshere1 · 02/01/2025 23:34

68kg, would like to get to 58kg. Diagnosed prediabetes

Journeyintomelody · 03/01/2025 01:58

Welcome and HNY everyone. Thanks for joining!
I'm really enjoying the new health kick. New favourite lunch, watermelon, cucumber and feta salad with mint and basil 😋 so refreshing after the Christmas roast and leftovers! Posting my weight on Saturday. First week always lies because of water weight so hoping to see a bit of a jump!

Lunch sounds lovely!
I've made a pact to try and stop drinking coke. I've replaced the last three days with a huel drink that's only got 30 calories in it and has vitamins added. So far I've tricked my brain but it's a 30 year old habit so I'm not silly and no it will take willpower. Although I did enjoy having the calories back yesterday from my normal 200 calorie bottle! Hoping my tinny bloat will also go down

TheRozzers · 03/01/2025 08:11

Hello please can I join too. @Journeyintomelody the watermelon and feta salad sounds lovely! Thanks for the idea.

Currently 11st and really want to be 9 by summer.

Doing Louise Parker which is low carb and eating little and often.

Joined Fiit and doing 25 mins of yoga in the mornings and 25 mins of cardio later in the day + minimum 10k steps.

Trying to stick to 1,200 net calories with minimal sugar.

blahple · 03/01/2025 11:17

in! I'm suddenly 90kg and I should be 70. I don't know how this has happened but I need to fix it.

Journeyintomelody · 03/01/2025 11:47

Fyi: I'm currently nursing a knee injury which means I have had to stop running (I usually run 5 times a week). Instead I'm committing to 15000+ steps a day until I get the all clear from the physio.

Oddly enough, I find this is ideal for weight loss. I really struggle to lose weight when I'm doing a lot of cardio (you gotta fuel those runs!). Now I have replaced my morning run with strength and conditioning!

As a PT I would always advise caution about increasing cardio whilst making drastic changes to your diet. Eat well first - give it a few weeks, then start looking at upping exercise. Walking everyday is enough whilst you get used to a new diet (of course, that's just my view, take it or leave it 😊)

I'm in please. I'm post menopause with hypothyroidism. I've been trying to lose weight for the last 6 months but have totally stuck within a 2lb bracket. I am now doing it the old fashioned way and calorie counting. My gp has recommended weight training - apparently it has good results in post menopausal women and he also told me to look at carb cycling. I do exercise regularly but he suggested cutting back on the cardio and trying the weights.

I would love to lose 12kg or more by summer.

blahple · 03/01/2025 12:30

I trained heavily in a sport for years, loads of cardio and could eat mostly whatever I wanted. Injury meant I had to stop training for a while and I lost all my fitness and piled on a load of weight. I've been half heartedly trying to get back to training but I hadn't realised how hard it was to go from what feels like nothing, I feel like a blob and everything that pushes my heart rate up is exhausting. For me cardio is the key I think, I walk a lot but it does nothing to my weight, never has, but it's hard to push myself on my own- too easy to stop when I start feeling a bit tired. I'm going to give couch to 5k a go and see if having someone on my headphones will fool me into thinking I can't just opt out 2 mins in ha! hopefully that gets my cardio fitness up again and helps me feel more energised.

Lovely!! Any dressing? Totally having that tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about your injury but agree walking sounds like a good plan.

I did 25 mins of yoga this morning and DD and I just had a lovely, long walk.

Fitting exercise in around work next week will be another matter.

Journeyintomelody · 03/01/2025 17:51

@TheRozzers no dressing - it honestly didn't need it. But you could do a watermelon dressing, there are loads of yummy recipes with a quick Google search 😋
