Hi

As my user name says this summer the Ryan Air seatbelt did not fit.
Yesterday I had to sit on a wooden deck chair and I found myself trying to Google what the weight limit could be

So tomorrow I start a diet.
So many threads on Mumsnet are for people much smaller than me
I'm 18 stones and 5lbs.

Please feel free to join if you are seriously overweight, please don't join if you are just averagely fat.

Thanks for the welcome and support @Minnie888 😊
I’m glad it’s not just me who thinks the ‘ideal’ weight is mad!
thanks again for the motivation x

Sunshineandrainbow · 26/03/2025 09:53

@Jaq27 best to be realistic.
What's your plan to lost the weight?

I am struggling being off work and out the routine. Meeting people for coffee and lunch. But thats life I guess. I am not going to be too hard on myself.

Jaq27 · 26/03/2025 10:10

Hi @Sunshineandrainbow - sorry to read about your toe. So frustrating when something blocks our goal to be active.
so my plan is to eat better and move more.
Biggest change is not cooking the evening meal any more for husband and son.
i have veg stir fries, soups, salads, lean protein. Also minimal bread and carbs, no wine midweek.
just better habits really.
i work for myself from home so i get out and walk … part of the reason I’ve become obese is sitting on my rump all day :/ even commuting is moving.
i walk 2-3 miles most days, sometimes more.
wishing you a good week 🌈 🌞

Jaq27 · 27/03/2025 15:53

Sorry I seem to be taking over the board ..!
This is somewhere for me to record and keep on track as I haven't got anyone on the same weight loss journey.

So ... this morning's weigh-in was 12 stone 2lbs!!!
😀
Still obese but going the right way.

BMI down to 32.1

Meals today:

Breakfast: Chopped half apple, half a banana, 3 tablespoons Alpro dairy free sugar-free natural yog. Small handful of bran flakes on top (my bowels need it)
Lunch: Hard boiled egg salad and 1 slice Leerdammer cheese. Dash of salad cream. 1 slice sour dough bread with a scrape of Flora.
Dinner: will be stir fried peppers, spring onions, water chestnuts and cashew nut with noodles.

Hope everyone is having a good week. 🌸

@Jaq27 Your food sounds yummy. I am really bad at making stirfrys they always taste yuck.

I had wholemeal toast for breakfast/ lunch.
Early dinner Vege sausages, broccoli, cauliflower and leek.
Greek yog with grapes and blueberries (taking to work)
Off to work till 1am and might have a crumpet after that.

Sounds good!
I had veggie sausage yesterday with olive pasta. So tasty.
I envy you the crumpet … ooh lovely.
Might have a blueberry alpro yog now you’ve mentioned it 😊

Sunshineandrainbow · 28/03/2025 00:47

I love those alpro yogurts, I must buy some. So good with banana slices!

Minnie888 · 28/03/2025 07:04

This food sounds amazing! There are some people who put up their food and I think how do they live off that for a day? I think I move a lot and so need that energy to burn but obviously not too much! Snacking was my downfall and portion size. Hoping that’s the thing that sticks Halo

PigInADuvet · 28/03/2025 07:16

Poking my head in again 👋

I'm approaching 4st loss since November, i suspect my ideal weight is somewhere around 15st so "only" 8 to go! I'm starting to feel like I probably need to get back to some sort of exercise, which is something I simultaneously love and dread the thought of 😆

I need to do some meal planning today, starting to get a bit stuck in a food rut again and need to shake things up a bit.

Sunshineandrainbow · 28/03/2025 09:56

Wow @PigInADuvet 4 stone since November is incredible, good for you. Are you following a particular plan?

Some exercise would be a good idea and the evenings will be lighter from next week if you fancy venturing outside.

I am going to get back into stopping at local lake on the way home and doing a lap before going home from work.

Portion size and late night snacking has also been my downfall! And biscuits with my tea.
I work from home but try to build in a 2-3 mile walk most days otherwise I'd continue to blob out in front of the computer.
Variety is key to this weight loss thing - when I'm tired of veg stir fries I make something with cannellini beans or lentils.
@Sunshineandrainbow the secret to stir fries is to use Maggi seasoning :) it's at Sainsbos. The packet/jar sauces are too sweet and too much for me, so if I do use them I only put in a tablespoon or so. Also straight to wok noodles work a treat. x

Wow amazing @PigInADuvet !!! Variety is definitely key to keep the momentum going.
Saw the GP yesterday about my high blood pressure and have staved off medication til the summer. Hoping if I shift another stone and carry on walking every day it will get lower without using pills.

PigInADuvet · 28/03/2025 19:16

I mean, I was almost 27 stone to start with so not surprising it's dropping easily at this stage.

I'm calorie counting and I've a personal trainer/coach who I'm working with, although no major exercise....yet! When I say calorie counting, my goal is to hit 3000 calories a day and 130g protein, and 7500 steps

CakeFace1234 · 28/03/2025 22:06

Can I join you? Incredible losses and goals on here.

For me, A yearly high blood pressure check showed it was borderline high and prompted routine bloods which revealed I am pre-diabetic - 44 . Have been referred to an NHS centre for weight control, 1st visit next week for lifestyle changes, advice etc so can report back with the highlights. Hopefully will make me more accountable. Weekend though is full of family birthday meals so Monday would be a good start for me.

Weight 14 st 8
BMI 37.1
Target 10 st

Jaq27 · 28/03/2025 23:03

Welcome @CakeFace1234 I also have high blood pressure which kickstarted my weight loss journey. My target is 10 stone too.

Enjoy your weekend of celebrations. Let us know how your NHS visit goes!

Jaq27 · 31/03/2025 15:13

Fell off the diet wagon big time yesterday ... !!!

Just for accountability I'm going to list EVERYTHING I ATE (and enjoyed):

  • mini breakfast pastry (pain au chocolat)
  • grapes
  • olive bread (2 thick slices)
  • olives
  • cold italian meats
  • goats cheese in breadcrumbs with pesto
  • roast beef, roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding (big one), carrots, peas, gravy
  • cheesecake with berry compote
  • 5 x Rose's chocolates
  • ??? unknown glasses of wine (oops)
  • grilled cheese on toast with spring onion (1.5 slices)

Hope everyone had a good Mother's Day if you celebrate.

Am back on track today.

Jaq27 · 02/04/2025 12:52

Dieting is a very lonely thing ... so I hope no-one minds if I use this thread as a kind of diary. Always here if anyone wants to chat or interact.

So yesterday:

  • Breakfast - half banana, grapes + 3 Tbsp Alpro sugar-free natural yogurt, small handful of bran flakes
  • Lunch - 4 mini falafel with salad, squidge of mayo, 1.5 small slices wholemeal sour dough
  • Dinner - peppers, cashew nuts, spring onions, chilli, wok noodles, herbs
  • snack - 1 reduced sugar digestive biscuit
  • 5 teas made with oat milk

Did a 3 mile walk.

Took my blood pressure just for jollies to see if it had gone down.
Still 'High' (RED), but it's closer to 'Raised' (YELLOW) on the chart than before. Going the right way?!

Will weigh in tomorrow. Have to admit I am feeling A LOT better about myself since I started this. And not drinking alcohol through the week is really helping with my anxiety. Some weeks we were drinking every night ... stress of running our own business -- and sometimes just simple boredom!

I must go out and make some friends. We moved here a year ago and I haven't got into the community yet. If I lose another half stone I will join the Zumba Gold class around the corner. Has anyone done it?
I hate exercising in front of people but it might help me meet people as well as burn off a few calories.
I did Couch 2 5K 5 years ago. Can hardly believe it now. But walking every day has to do me some good. I hope.

Have a good week everyone.

Sunshineandrainbow · 02/04/2025 17:53

@Jaq27 glad you have managed to move on from your higher calorie day. It's normal to have days like that it's just life.

Zumba sounds good and more fun than an aerobics class.

I need to do some exercise and struggle with motivation.

PigInADuvet · 02/04/2025 18:13

@Jaq27 are you following any particular plan for your weight loss?

Jaq27 · 02/04/2025 18:20

Hi @Sunshineandrainbow !
Yep - motivation is the first struggle.
One of the best bits of advice I was given by a fitness fan was 'just put your shoes on and go out - see how you feel.'
Doing something is always better than doing nothing.

Sometimes I put on my outdoor shoes and feel really quite grumbly that I have to leave the cosy house and go out for a walk ... but my mood lifts within minutes. It gives me time to think too. Good for stress.

Btw housework - hoovering, mopping, cleaning etc - also counts as exercise. I always do mine to indie rock or 90s dance tunes :)

Hi @PigInADuvet
I am loosely basing my diet on what I learnt on Slimming World but without the over processed foods they used.
So lean protein, minimal carbs, more fruit & salads.

I was just wondering if your intake on 31st (well done for being accountable to yourself by the way. It's very easy to pretend it never happened - been there, done that!) could have been triggered by being too restrictive? I dont know what your stats are but your portions seem to be quite small by your descriptions

I get that it looks like a binge ...! It was a Mother's Day blow-out.

My lovely DD and DS were with me and I just ate and drank what I liked all day.

Portion control has always been a problem for me so I am following the SW 'healthy extras' amounts for bread, cheese etc.
I don't feel at all deprived at the moment because I am allowing myself all the things I love and giving myself plenty of variety. e.g -

Lunch today: Reduced fat Feta cheese, walnuts, pomegranate seeds, mound of salad leaves and a splash of Omega rich salad dressing. 1 small slice wholemeal.

Not hungry yet but later I will have meat for dinner!
Spicy chicken with onions & peppers, cannellini beans, tomato & herbs. Squeeze of lime.

How are you getting on?

Minnie888 · 02/04/2025 20:29

Just checking in. Doing ok but my morale is slipping on the diet 🤣 was always planning to get to Easter and then reassess goal again after a break for Easter holidays… let’s hope I don’t go too crazy! We are on holiday next week so trying hard to stick to plan this week. Loving some of the comments when people see me after a good few months and say I look like I’ve lost, gives me a boost
