Hi

As my user name says this summer the Ryan Air seatbelt did not fit.
Yesterday I had to sit on a wooden deck chair and I found myself trying to Google what the weight limit could be

So tomorrow I start a diet.
So many threads on Mumsnet are for people much smaller than me
I'm 18 stones and 5lbs.

Please feel free to join if you are seriously overweight, please don't join if you are just averagely fat.

Thank you for the friendly welcome.

Interesting about the mother's reaction and link to secret eating. I do find myself being very careful about how I react to DD having an extra something for example so maybe there is something historical to how I was reacted to. I always feel judged about what's on my plate and how people react to the fat person having a desert etc.

It has been a slow process but I don't eat before 1pm ish when at work and have cottage cheese and crackers and some fruit. Maybe a yogurt and banana.

It's just me and DD at home which makes it easier. I love soup and there is a Tesco recipe I make all the time, lentil and vegetable to keep in the fridge. I will have this with brown toast in the evenings or I have beans on toast with some vege sausages or veg sausages with cabbage, kale and carrots with gravy. Luckily I don't mind eating the same thing each day. My biggest issue is snacking in the evenings which I need to call time on. I do allow myself a pack of crisps every day as soon as I get home from work.

Weekends are still a bit of an issue which I think has slowed my weightloss. I have toast for breakfast in bed and I am at home more so pick things. What I need to do is stick to the regime I have when at work.

I have managed to stop myself eating DD leftovers, she had pizza crusts yesterday which looked so good. They went into the food waste!

I also log everything on fat secret app

Haruka · 02/01/2025 16:03

Do you mind sharing the recipe?

I have made tonkotsu stock, which has to be boiled all day today (thank god for solar panels; this has barely cost me anything in electricity). I know that a bowl of tonkotsu ramen is extremely high in calories, but given all else today was a blueberry smoothie and two Korean marinated eggs I think I can manage.

I ended up doing a spot of DIY on top of my normal exercise today - a tiny project which somehow ended up taking over an hour. But I've worked up a sweat and that must count for something.

Waiting for my ramen to finish, then I'll spend the evening working and reading, I've had trouble sleeping the last two nights, which hasn't helped my energy levels, so I didn't get going until past midday on both yesterday and today.

What do you all do with kids? I know Sunshine now eats separately, but I cannot do that, because my eldest would skip food entirely if I let them and my youngest can be quite picky, so still needs good habits instilled. I only have the kids 50% of the time and my ex is a shit cook, so they end up with far more UPF and fast food than I'd like, and my eldest often secretly doesn't eat at school, so I need to set an example by eating together here, which messes with my eat-when-I'm-hungry schedule I maintain when they're not with me.

1st proper January weigh in , 1.2 lb off, 1st target to meet is BMI under 35, about 9lb away.

Sunshineandrainbow · 03/01/2025 07:46

Fantastic start to the year @Seaitoverthere , I will do my year start weight tomorrow as tend to weigh on a Saturday!

This is the recipe, I love it as a base and add other things, so last week added broccoli and cauliflower. Could you have a bowl of soup at the table with your little ones. I am going to make more of an effort to eat with DD as not doing this means I eat later which isn't great.

Super Lentil And Vegetable Soup Recipe | Tesco Real Food

This warming lentil and vegetable soup is packed with tons of nutritious veg and perfect for chilly evenings. Serve with crusty bread for a hearty meal!

Urgh, up 0.5kg overnight. I know fluctuations are normal, but it's frustrating when it happens so early on. I only had one proper meal, plus a smoothie and two marinated eggs, other than loads of herbal tea, so I should have been well within my calorie limit.

My boiler gave out this morning; I repressurised it and cannot see any obvious leaks, but I'm now stressed as hell, because I really cannot afford a replacement right now, both money- and time-wise.

Thank you for the recipe @Sunshineandrainbow that looks good! Unfortunately, my eldest isn't quite so little any more (adult teen) and they will point out the hypocrisy of me not eating "properly" while making a normal meal for my kids, and will want to join in with the not-eating or only eating low calorie food. They are very much borderline eating disordered and underweight and with my history, I need to model good eating habits for as long as they still live here.

Enjoying last nonFD Friday of the holidays here!
In awe of those up and running already.
I shall weigh myself tomorrow as usual, continue off the wagon until Monday, then pick up my usual exercise/eating regime from then.
I am hoping allowing myself a long official break (11 days!) means I will be ready to start again, but we shall see!

Sunshineandrainbow · 04/01/2025 11:55

I have weighed and I am shocked to have lost 2lb, I have had more choc and pastry food than I would have liked so I hope it's doesn't catch up with me next week.
Start weight 18.10
Current weight 15 stone,

I need to see the 14's!

Haruka · 04/01/2025 14:03

That's excellent, Sunshine well done!

I've had the opposite happen. Despite good food choices, no alcohol, far less food (vaguely calorie counting), meaning I have consumed around 3000kcal less than I normally would in the past 4 days, and despite exercise, I have gained again, taking my total from -1.1kg to -0.4kg as of today. It's frustrating as hell, even though I'm sure there will be a long-term shift eventually.

Edited to say we appear to be a similar weight. I need to get down to 54kg long-term, so I have almost half my body weight to lose. A daunting prospect.

Monday is a great day for a fresh start!

I want to do it on my fitness pal. Anyone else planning on that?

Haruka · 06/01/2025 05:18

No, I used it for a while but found it tedious to find the brands I used and input it all - I have made a simple, colour-coding spreadsheet where I record my weight and daily calorie intake and it does a few calculations depending on the raw data (daily weight loss, average loss per week compared to the week before, calories left, colour-coded for weight and calorie intake).

It takes me less time, because I can calculate from the packaging/ basic seach as I go and just add it all up.

I am also sad enough to physically plot a daily weight graph on graph paper and colour in a square for every 5min exercise as part of my bullet journal. It gives me a greater sense of achievement compared to an app, similar to making a to-do list and ticking it all off.

My brief gain has reversed itself, as predicted, and I'm back on the loss now. It's why weekly averages are so important.

Seaitoverthere · 06/01/2025 06:16

I use Nutracheck which I find easier than MFP .

Elle771 · 06/01/2025 06:51

Joining pls! Just weighed in at 20st 7 after Christmas... and was not much heavier when full term with DC so need to make some changes.. quite glad to have found a thread for us biggies 😅😅

Minnie888 · 06/01/2025 17:06

Hi everyone checking in post Xmas. Starting again today and it's been rough, not helped by some personal rubbish too so here, but hardly excited or happy to restart! Not weighing again until end of Jan can't face what it might say and want to stay positive.... wishing us all luck Flowers

Haruka · 12/01/2025 05:52

Checking in. I'm on track to lose 5kg by the end of the month. A slow, but decent loss - if I maintain that, I'll have lost a stone by the middle of next month and will be thinner than I have been in year by April, hopefully in the overweight category by summer and a healthy weight by this time next year.

I haven't touched a drink at all and haven't missed it much, and I don't feel like I'm depriving myself food-wise, either.

Mornings start with a smoothie and salmon on toast at weekends.
Lunches are rich cucumber salads (with oil and seeds) or homemade soups (including cheese). Dinners are whatever I fancy, but I have noticed I cannot eat as much as I used to. Exercise varies - when I have my kids here I simply do not have the time, so I can only exercise for a week every other week. My job is active, though, and involves being up on my feet most of the day.

How is everyone holding up?

Katypp · 12/01/2025 16:46

Well what a disaster Christmas was! Fell off the waggon on Boxing Day and got back on it last Monday, although I was a lot more controlled than I have been in the past and did plan it to a certain extent.
However, despite walking for at least an hour every day throughout - including Christmas Day - I managed to gain a massive half a stone in just two weeks. I had hoped most of it would come back easily, but no, a week later, including two fast days, and I am still 4lb heavier than I was on Dec 22. Nightmare.

One of the things I’ve noticed too is how much more quickly I got full over Xmas. It was annoying as hard to eat all the delicious food! This week back on I’ve felt hungry again… so hoping that passes soon as that’s hard…. Also decided to stop trying so hard to do so many steps each day and be more natural whilst still active so it reflects what life would be like post diet….

Hi everyone, I hope this is a safe space for me to join

I started last year with a BMI of 52, I was 319 pounds. I'm now 241 pounds and have a BMI of 39.8, putting me into the "class 2" obesity instead of morbidly obese. It's the first time in a long time that I've been able to say that.

I'm 25, and looking forward to flying without worrying about the seat belt in September.

Katypp · 13/01/2025 07:21

Oh well done @Lost, it's such a boost when you go down a level.

It's really nice!! I need to lose another 50 or so pounds to be overweight, I think. So that's the next goal

Katypp · 13/01/2025 10:35

I've got about 2.5 stones to go before I am overweight. That will be cause for celebration. I don't think I have been out of an obese classification for the last 20 years!

Elle771 · 13/01/2025 19:36

Well have officially started today (last 2 weeks just been a blur!!).. signed up for the weight watchers app as they had an offer on and quite like it so far.. devastated to see hiw many points are in prosecco but I need to curb that at weekends so probably not a bad thing 😅🙈

Feeling slightly peckish tonight for first time in over 6 months so hoping the old appetite shrink happens quick now I'm not mindlessly mainlining thousands of calories a day 😬😬
