On holiday and after a stressful four years I'm ready to get fit and healthy and lose two stone. I'm going to start at the beginning of September. Would anyone like to join and motivate each other?

Had a great start yesterday, managed to hit everything I wanted. Could have done a bit more exercise but husband worked 7am-9pm so had all 3 kids to manage which is pretty full on!
Need to stick to calories again today, try and get in a longer walk (hope to go out soon).

My main goals:
stick to calories (1760 nutracheck have given me)
Decent exercise 3x per week
2.5l water at least
no alcohol
no takeaways
low upf

Hi, I'm in too please. I'm a little older than you OP, but about the same to lose.

I wrote my plan yesterday for September so I was pleased to find this thread.

Increase water and add electrolytes
Mon, Wed, Fri will be eating between 11 and 7, three small healthy meals.
Tues and Thurs will be a shake during the day if I need it and one meal at tea time
Sat and Sun will be a salad lunch and a family tea (I'll sub out carbs for veg probably)

Good luck everyone 😊

That sounds like a good plan @DutchCamper

I have never been so fat, except for during my pregnancies. You know how you can kind of settle at a heavier weight but not really get fatter? Well, I was like that for years until suddenly I did get a lot fatter. I'm nearly 48, so blame the menopause. It's getting to the point where my stomach has a life of it's own now - just reducing my tummy fat a little will help enormously.

Away on holiday as of Thursday for a week so it's a final hurrah although I'll try not to go too mad. Then ready to hit it from 1st

LazyLeopard · 20/08/2024 11:53

Lovely to see so many people onboard! We've got this!

So yesterday I was over calories, but mega full, so I think I can reign it in a bit. I've ditched breakfast today, I wont be able to do that every day, but hoping if I reduce my portion sizes over the next week or so rather than cold turkey it will be easier.

Also back at the gym for the first time today since injury. I'm really nervous.

Solasum · 20/08/2024 12:45

I find it really hard to find time to exercise between work and family.

would anyone else be up for collectively doing a short fitness video each day at any time we can fit it in? I reckon I have no excuse not to do 10-15 minutes a day, but don’t know where to start

Yes, I would. I like Growingananas and Lucy Wyndham on YouTube

Bananachocs · 20/08/2024 14:08

@Solasum I’d also say Lucy Wyndham - great low impact easy to follow fitness routines but also Grow with Jo - her videos are so upbeat and fun.

SatinHeart · 20/08/2024 14:38

Ooh just seen this. Can I join too please?

I'm 40, quite possibly peri (but GP not interested) and have 15kg to lose. Combination of not losing baby weight from DC2 4 years ago, plus bad food and wine habits picked up in lockdown.

Planning on using intermittent fasting/5:2 with reduced carbs and more protein, as it worked for me pre-DC.

Not quite sure what to do re exercise, I've been trying to get my step count higher but it's not really working. Generally I hate all forms of exercise!

lorisparkle · 20/08/2024 16:00

I think that adding in more exercise has made a difference. My DH bought an exercise bike so I am trying to do a bit on that everyday. I am also trying a 'walking' fitness app which I am actually enjoying, I usually hate any exercise videos but as this is just for 10 minutes I am finding it good to get me moving.

Blosssom · 20/08/2024 19:31

An ok day today...

Had a late breakfast / brunch of two boiled eggs on crackers. So that was good.

Just now had noodles with chicken for dinner but I was quite hungry so may have had too much!! Best not snack in the evening.

I did manage to squeeze in 30 minutes on the exercise bike, and might see if I can manage a walk once DH is home to keep an eye on the children...

Namerequired · 20/08/2024 20:38

Can I join please? I was on the 2 stone for summer thread and I’m slipping since it ended so need some motivation and accountability. I have about 4 1/2 + st more to lose so 2st should put a good dent in it

Henowner · 17/08/2024 21:40

I'm in too, need to lose 3 stone so 2 stone off by Christmas would be a great start.
I'm 50 in May, so menopausal at the moment with loads of health niggles and would really like to get a grip on eating healthily for the sake of my ailing mind and body 😬

I need to lose three stone and am 50 next May too 👍

Blarn · 20/08/2024 23:51

I would like if anyone has any recommendations for pilataes, barre type workouts. I think working on my core and back would be good. With dh doing shift work and young dc, it is really hard to fit in exercise. I love swimming but the pool closes at 5 on a weekend, I can't always get to the evening ones when theatre on late and mornings are tricky. In a couple of years I'd be happy to go of a morning and get back when they wake up but they are too young at the moment.

I struggle running too. For years now after a couple of weeks of running I get a really bad knee pain that starts to hurt just walking unless I stop the runs altogether. Shame as it is easier to fit runs in.

frenchbreadandbites · 21/08/2024 08:16

Hey ladies, sorry for radio silence got back from hols yesterday and been manic. Will do a proper catch up and hello to everyone who wants to join later this evening. I'm starting to try and make some healthier choices in prep for the 1st September. Off to pizza express tonight, so that will be tough. Have a great day xxxx

This is my weakest moment of the day, I've just got in from work having had only a salad for lunch, no dinner ready yet and I'm starving.

Normally I'd grab some crisps now but instead I'm going to have a bath after putting dinner in the oven..

youaremysunshine2623 · 21/08/2024 20:32

I’ve started today (well kind of). I thought that I shouldn’t wait until september if I could help it. Did IF, eating from
12-8, bought a weighing scales and drank lots of water. Not enough steps though and definitely have to work on WHAT I eat in the
window - didn’t quite get to that today! Starting weight 14 stone 14 pounds (5’8) so a long way to go for me.

turkeymuffin · 21/08/2024 20:49

Blosssom · 18/08/2024 10:23

My plan is to go low carb..

  • Eggs of some description for breakfast
  • Salad with chicken or fish for lunch
  • Family dinner but go easy on the carbs for my portion

I hope that'll do it, like most others I have a busy life with ft job and two pre teens with full schedules so I have to eat something!

I do manage 10k steps most days but not much else in the way of exercise. We have an exercise bike so I might see if I can fit in 1-2 sessions per week..

This is pretty much my plan too!

Yoghurt / fruit / eggs for breakfast

Chicken / tuna / egg salad for lunch

Family dinner - go easy on the carbs. No extras like garlic bread etc.

Surely that's got to work?!

Also replacing lattes with mint tea. Which I do actually like so that helps.

ShinySteel · 21/08/2024 20:50

@Blosssom have a banana, it will fill you up til dinner / stop the hunger now.

QuirkyBrickSwan · 21/08/2024 20:58

I'm in... definitely want to lose that by December. Not feeling good about myself. I'm a fit person who does a decent about of exercise.... I'm even doing a 100k walk run in Sept! But snacks are my downfall.... and the weight just sticks on belly and bum making me look like a ball!
Am actually on holiday and using it as a reset! Not snacking and eating well (high protein and lovely salads) plus doing 20000 steps a day. Will be interested to see how the scales look on Saturday and so hoping that has kickstarted it!! Just need to bring my good holiday habits back to the real world!!

Blosssom · 21/08/2024 21:01

@turkeymuffin sounds like we have very similar plans. I think it has to work, I can't eat nothing. Just need to start squeezing in more exercise to make sure it's effective.

@ShinySteel Thanks for the banana tip, that is an excellent idea. Can't be having a bath every night when I feel hungry.

Rusticanella · 21/08/2024 21:11

Hi,

Can I join please! Had a baby almost 4 months ago- was quite lean after birth, but have put on weight since, too many takeaways and quick easy meals. Also have a 15 year old DD, who has shredded weight the last few months, and has actually admitted to having some trouble eating- went to GP and not severe enough to call an ED, but enough she needs to be on a high calorie meal plan. So will be tough as will need to cook two meals as everything of hers is laced with double cream.

Going to try and use MFP, clean eating, and slowly does it. 2st by Christmas would be incredible, and probably the best weight I could be at 37 realistically

InstantUserNameJustAddWater · 21/08/2024 22:41

Hello all, can I join in too? 39, 84kg at 157cm so a sizeable BMI of 34 which needs to go down considerably for health reasons. Haven't slept decently for the last 4.5 years owing to sleep thief child/ shielding, and the biscuit habit got out of control just trying to stay awake. She's finally mostly sleeping through now so time to focus on sorting myself out now!

Plan is at least 14:10 fasting daily and low carb Mediterranean diet. I am struggling a little bit working out how best to do this, because I don't want to weigh out food etc in front of my daughter - I don't think that's healthy role modelling for her either, so I'm aiming just for much smaller portions generally and getting as many veg as possible. The sticker collector in me likes the Tim Spector 30 plants a week idea - anyone found a decent app tracker for that?

Foxymoxy68 · 21/08/2024 23:06

I'd like to join please.
1.5 stones to lose and plan to give intermittent fasting a go.
On holiday until 8th September though so will start on the 9th.
Good luck everyone!

lorisparkle · 22/08/2024 12:22

Not doing too well on the diet but having a lovely time! - had a spa break with lovely dinner and breakfast and then took DS2 out to a cafe to celebrate his GCSEs and next is my birthday.

That sounds lovely.

I am also waiting for September to start properly. Although not overeating now at all. All the juggling of childcare in the holidays means that a routine of mindful eating is just too much right now!

I did get blood tests back (online). I am often ridiculously tired, I'm on the pill but my periods have got lighter and not as predictable and my PMS is truly awful. Everything came back completely fine, even the iron which surprised me. So I'm just tired and irritable.
