On holiday and after a stressful four years I'm ready to get fit and healthy and lose two stone. I'm going to start at the beginning of September. Would anyone like to join and motivate each other?

@Blarn it was so weird! I was so exhausted but just couldn't sleep! My heart was pounding! Probably bloody peri menopause!

@frenchbreadandbites super motivated here too! Bring it on!

Scales showing the same weight as before our weekend away, which I know I should take as a win given how hard it was, but I'm a little disappointed given all the delicious food I turned down...

As ever, this weight loss game is not about all the things you don't eat / say no to though and I should focus on what I do eat, and eat less this week!

Going to try and squeeze 30m on the exercise bike which will be a challenge with work and the children still off school but I've put my workout stuff on in the hope of it happening!

MamaDollyorJesus · 27/08/2024 11:09

@Blosssom I find if I wear my workout stuff on my WFH days I'm more likely to get out for a walk/do my YouTube weights workout at lunchtime rather than just sit on the sofa & read my book/watch crap tv or do housework for the hour.

I did do my weights workout at 6 this morning though so off to a good start today & have also climbed 4 flights of stairs since getting to the office.

Blosssom · 27/08/2024 11:42

@MamaDollyorJesus that's a great start for you today!! Yes completely agree re just wearing workout gear to try and make it happen. Approaching lunchtime now and I think I will go and do that bike ride soon.

I’ve been enjoying walking without as much pain so much this week. Anyone had any experience of getting a gp referral for the gym?

thequickbrowndog · 27/08/2024 11:45

Yep I'm in! Just checked my bmi and it's just tipped into 'overweight' for the first time in my life!

Standinginthesunlight · 27/08/2024 12:38

I’d love to join in. I am around 12 stone, in my sixties and am developing a few health issues that would improve if I lost a couple of stones. I have already lost a stone gradually over the last two years. It’s now time to focus on losing another. Will start on 1 September as that gives me chance to get healthy food in.

Amazing! I remember that too 😁

My BMI is currently obese - even my goal weight is in the overweight category!

I have a wedding at the end of September & I want to lose 6lb before then.

Rose2108 · 28/08/2024 00:25

Marking my place! Will come back and read properly when I'm not in a night feed blur... but really need to shift some timber x

BlueSoul · 28/08/2024 01:17

Yes please, I'm keen to join!

TotteringBy · 28/08/2024 09:30

Easing my way to September 1st, had a good day yesterday, did a decent walk, no snacking. I've never counted my water intake before but it clearly isn't much, as I felt like I was drinking all day and didn't quite make 3 litres. Off for the dreaded blood test this morning so I will discover the truth about my cholesterol 😨 Just had overnight oats, soaked in oat milk, and a nice herbal tea, cranberry and raspberry, working up to going dairy free as I know I'm going to have to make some big changes and obviously it will help with weight loss too.
Going for a swim later.

theedgeofthecloud · 28/08/2024 10:12

Hi. A bit late to the party but can I join please?

Menopausal, 53, 11st 12lbs, arthritic foot and knee, unfit with poor muscle tone and generally feel on the decline. Really want to make some lasting positive changes to my life. I do some classes, a bit of yoga and I like walking, but it's not consistent and does not sufficiently counter the bad habits.

Am starting today and aiming for a slow and steady pound a week, so 17lbs by Christmas Day. But also trying to view this as a long term shift of mindset and habits. I am terrible for starting off enthusiastically, losing a few pounds then drifting back to the status quo after 3 weeks. And starting most mornings positively but letting that fall away after a day of work stress.

Water, movement (v sedentary WFH job), meditation, lower upfs and being more mindful of carb portions is my plan. Initially calorie counting to see where the extra is coming from and how I can make better choices.

I'll jump on the WhatsApp group too, though trying to reduce phone usage so will see if it's a help or a hindrance!

Thanks so much for setting up this thread and group, it has really resonated with me.

Standinginthesunlight · 28/08/2024 13:08

What day is everyone weighing in? I was 12st 2 when I weighed myself a couple of weeks ago. I have been cutting down on stuff since then but not calorie counting or anything. I have bad acid reflux so am trying to cut out the things that trigger it like ice cream, chocolate, baileys, cider - all the things I love (and have probably caused my weight gain over the last few years).

StarStruK · 28/08/2024 13:58

I'd like to join too please. I'm treating September like a new year - kids go back to school and my youngest starts a few mornings in Pre school so for the first time in years I'll actually have a few hours to myself. I think I'm the heaviest I've ever been and feel very self conscious and sluggish.

Blosssom · 28/08/2024 14:22

@Standinginthesunlight I am thinking of weighing every day. I know it's not generally recommended due to fluctuations but I have in the past really struggled with the concept of a "big weighing moment" especially if there has been no change. It's so disappointing then after a week! So I am just going to hop on the scales every morning and see how that works for me..

Promise I won't spam the thread with my weight every day though!

Dash1863 · 28/08/2024 15:35

I'd love to join . I'm 61 and need to loose at least two stone . It's all crept on over the past four years .
Used to be so fit and toned prior to that but it's all gone now . Also have arthritis so exercise can be painful .
Seems a huge job to get back to that again so would be great to join in for group support .

AlwaysKindaKnewYoudBeTheDeathOfMe · 28/08/2024 16:05

I weigh every day; I don't obsess if it goes the wrong way some days, but I know if I don't for a while it's easy to pretend everything is fine and I can eat what I want.

I've got a note of it going back to March 2021! I was exactly 20 kilos heavier then.

I will weigh on Monday as it's my day one, but then weekly on a Friday as it gives me time to recover from any weekend naughtiness 🙈

lorisparkle · 28/08/2024 16:54

I weigh every day as I find it keeps me on the straight and narrow if my weight starts to creep up (the last time I stopped weighing I gained a stone!)

I am really struggling at the moment as I am not sleeping very well. As soon as I am tired I crave sweet things and carbs.

MamaDollyorJesus · 28/08/2024 17:58

I weigh in on a Friday morning.

For those weighing in daily it's a good idea to keep track & then take the average to determine the weekly loss.

I’d love to join for accountability. 44 yr old, mum of 2, perimenopausal, very unmotivated absolutely adore food, cooking and nice meals out 😫HELP!! It is no wonder I am now 15st 4, after holding it at just under 15st for about 3 years. I would feel better at around 12.5st. I have started a UPF free journey and use really good ingredients just probably too much, too often and too rich. I basically love cream, roast dinners and steaks fried in butter. With no exercise routine it is leading to a bit of a difficult situation. My last cholesterol was ever so slightly up, as was my blood sugar. Got a free three day trial at Nuffield next week so I’m hoping to drop 2lbs by Friday next. Would love to feel a bit slinky by Xmas. Doesn’t help that hubby is a bean pole as are kids but gorge on sugar. We can do this. Love reading all your entries; great tips. Thank you!! 💪

piscofrisco · 28/08/2024 20:33

May I join please? I'm currently 12 stone 2 which is 2 stones too heavy for me.

I go part time at work from
Next week going from a 50 hour week to more like an 18 hour one. At least until after Christmas. So I plan on using this extra time for fourth months wisely, and actually looking after myself in terms of diet and exercise and hopefully sleep.

4 years ago at 40 I was just under 10 stone and looked the best I've ever looked. Since then there has been a huge amount of stress and change,no time for me at all, and peri has reared its head and the result is a podgy pasty woman I don't recognise in the mirror.

Monday is the day for change I think-September, back to it feeling and I feel like this is gresr chance to fix myself.

I'm quite lazy and bar a dog walk or two I loathe exercise so I need this to keep me accountable!!

Noidea2024 · 29/08/2024 00:00

I'm another one planning to joint the band wagon from the weekend, as the holidays come to an end. I'm 42 and currently weigh 72.6kg, which is more than I weighed at 9 months pregnant! I want to get back down to around 62kg, which I think I was last at around 5 years ago. I've gained weight gradually over than time, almost denying it was happening.

I'm planning to calorie count and generally be more active.

ButtonNoses · 29/08/2024 03:46

I also weigh in on a Friday. Was 14st 5 last Friday so will be interesting to see what I am tomorrow! :-) have tried and mostly managed to stick to 1300 calories a day. It’s not been without its issues though completely. It is incredibly hard. My goal is 12st 5 by Christmas Day so a 2 stone loss! Ideally I need to be around 9:7-10st so I’d still have more to go after

could someone please link the WhatsApp again?
