The online one isn't too bad, though is very pricey as you have to pay for 3 months up front! Does have a decent selection of recipes you cqn search through. The online syns calculator took a bit of getting used to, but I think that I'm there now.

It's taken a bit of getting used to working out how the Healthy Extras etc work - my printer has died so I couldn't print off the sheets. But unlimited fruit is great - I wouldn't have wanted to snack on fruit with WW, but I always doing it with SW. Alcohol is still limited, but then I guess it is pretty much pure calories, so no real surprise! Lost 3.5 pounds since Christmas so am fairly pleased as I don't feel hungry (though still mentally obsessed with food as I try to juggle which type of day suits me best).

That's great Yorkiegirl!

Arabica, I am glad that coffee is on the free list! I can't resist cappuccinos (DH is a bit obsessed and has a roaster, grinder and espresso machine) so I save up all my milk allowance for those!

ladymuck, the price of the online version put me off, I don't know why it has to be so much more expensive than going to a class. I thought the website was really slow as well (although that could be my computer it seems to get slower by the day).

SPARKLER1 · 05/01/2005 23:29

It's good to see that we are all feeling so positive and back on track. Keep it up everyone!!

Has anyone made the chicken tikka masala which is in the delicious recipie booklet that you get when you join SW. I have made it a couple of times before but the sauce is always very runny. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to thicken it?? It says you should put it 100g of VLF fromage frais but I'm wondering if I should buy a bigger tub and see if that works????

Can't help with that one Sparkler as I don't eat meat! Christie good luck for next week's weigh in. I have one DS who'll be 4 in April. I think S express looks great, but I will probably stick with the normal plan for now as right now my head's too full of babies to work out how to do anything new!

crunchie · 06/01/2005 11:41

Tell me all, what is Sucess Express??

I am a long term SW, but I haven't been to class for a while. I am thinking of rejoining soon, but am doing OK on my own ATM. I use a mix of SW and detox although SW does rule the way I eat when I am on a diet.

DecafArabica · 06/01/2005 11:43

And well done yorkiegirl--only 6lbs to go to that next award.

DecafArabica · 06/01/2005 12:38

Success express is a way of combining original and green choices at the same meal. You're allowed 3 meals a day and your normal healthy extras, and up to 15 syns. You two-thirds fill your plate with Superfree foods, which are neutral free foods (ie, foods that are free on either plan) and then on one third of your plate you have free foods from either the green or red day. So you could have a small jacket potato with tuna and lots of green veggies. You use syns in the normal way.

Demented · 06/01/2005 16:35

Can any of you Slimming World experts tell me about this Flexible Syns thing? I thought the consultant at the group said I was to save my Syns up for extra glasses of wine at the weekend etc but when I was looking at the book there was a bit about Flexible Syns it said that you could use extra Syns (up to 50) on occasion without having to drop Syns the next day (or at least I think that's what it said). Would this just be for a special occasion like a special meal out and if I was having a few glasses of wine on a Friday night I should save for them? Confused???

crunchie · 06/01/2005 17:03

Demented I would do it how you suggested. Flexible syns are a tool to use when you KNOW you will go way over your allowence - like a special occassion. The idea being if you keep track and some sort of count you still feel in control, and the next day you can go back to the plan. It is great to use very occassionally as you can't just sit there with nothing to eat. Also it absolves you of the guilt that usually follows the pigging out. The 'Oh no I've ruined my diet, I may as well give up!' type thoughts.

A few glasses of wine on a Friday night is fine to save syns for. I used to use my syns for the week 70 and take a bottle of wine as 35, this means I could drink that bottle in one go, or throughout the week. I would then stick to 5 syns a day. I am not a chocolate freak/crisp fan on SW therefore this wasn't a problem.

Sucess Express sounds interesting, although I only do green days, but it makes sense to limit the potatos/pasta/rice to 1/3rd of a plate. It just depends on teh size of plate!!

DecafArabica · 06/01/2005 18:13

I know, we've got those whopper ones from Ikea that are about 18 inches across!

Made that lemon couscous cake last night .. was ok

but the 'frosting' was to die for

take 4oz quark, mix in a tbsp lemon curd and some sweetener to taste .. its just delicious and only 1.5 syns the lot

gonna experiment with the couscous cake base ... because it could've worked but just missed the yummy factor

BethAndHerBrood · 06/01/2005 20:37

I've joined s.w. today for the first time! Am not very keen on the sitting round being lectured bit, but apart from that it wasn't half as scary as i thought it would be!

Demented · 06/01/2005 20:45

Thanks crunchie, I was getting a bit confused but understand better now.

Is there anyone around who can help me with a flaky moment??? I have been raving on about Slimming World the last couple of days, think it's great but, and I know I shouldn't do this, I weigh myself every morning and yesterday I had lost 1lb, I thought great hopefully shaping up to be not too bad a loss for my first week, then I got on the scales today I have put on 2lbs. In addition to that my DH has been going on about how much food I either am eating or could eat if I wanted to, he doesn't think it's possible to lose weight this way. If I put my sensible head on I can see that everyone on this thread has been doing it and it has been working (also some people I know in RL have lost successfully on SW) but I am slightly concerned. I don't want to go on Monday and they say well Demented you've put on 5lbs!!! Arrrrrgh!

Any positive stories about your first weeks gratefully received.

Demented · 06/01/2005 20:46

I also look really lardy today.

cori · 06/01/2005 20:48

Hello,
am going to first ever Slimming world meeting on Tuesday.
I will be back advice and support. Still not sure how it all works.

Twiglett · 06/01/2005 20:50

as long as its free food you can eat it till you puke and you WILL lose weight

STOP weighing yourself every day .. your hormones and the amount of water in your body will give you inaccurate readings .. STOP doing it .. if you must allow yourself to weigh yourself once a week ( I do the morning after my weigh-in because my scales weigh 5lbs less than theirs and I've had my scales forever)

cori · 06/01/2005 20:53

I havent weighed myself in about 3 months. Am scared. Think I have put back on all the weight I lost at Weight watachers.

Demented · 06/01/2005 21:02

I know I'm terrible Twiglett, it's a very bad habit. It normally doesn't bother me if I'm a couple of lbs up I suppose it's just that SW is all new.

Can I officially tell my DH to shut-up then? He says he doesn't like all this eating one thing to excess one day to be allowed to eat something else to excess the next, I can't get it through to him it's not like that. Yes it is mostly free food, today I have used 5 syns because he took me out to lunch (shouldn't complain too much about that) and yesterday only used 2 1/2 syns, also only used two healthy extras today and don't feel particularly inclined to use up the other two even although that would mean I could have a slice of toasted cheese!

Demented · 06/01/2005 21:04

Cori all the best! You can eat mountains, it's amazing!!! I'm still sceptical about losing this week but I am going to trust everyone else on this thread that it will happen!

Twiglett · 06/01/2005 21:07

you SHOULD have the healthy extras .. don't skimp on them

well done on the small amount of syns at restaurant .. what did you eat??
