Demented you could just weigh in and not stay to class if that is what is doing your head in. I know it seems a lot of money for a weigh in, butI have found the actual fact YOU CANNOT CHEAT by standing different or making excuses does help. I know the classes can be a mare, but try to stay for a month, then see who you feel. I have done classes and tried to do it at home, and although the class is highly embarrassing/boring/mindless sometimes for some reason that fact you have to stand up and be counted (so to speak) does help the diet. I never manage to stick at it at home on my own. I will start back at the classes in about a month's time as I have started my won diet and I am on holiday next week. I am using COD's thread as a 'club' to help me.

Good luck, give it that first stone and then decide.

BTW you can keep the books

Demented · 11/01/2005 11:36

I know what you are saying crunchie, if it was the only thing I went to I wouldn't mind it's probably the straw that breaks the camel's back so to speak! Monday is busy night in our house and Slimming World is wedged inbetween taking DS1 swimming and DH going off to BodyPump (also I've usually be at a circuits class in the morning so flagging by the time evening comes). I honestly don't have any concerns about sticking to it on my own, I found MN Mamas great last year and my loss was fairly consistent TBH knowing my loss will be posted here is a big motivation for me. Weighing and going I don't feel is an option, firstly as you say it's an expensive way of being weighed (I've got a perfectly good set of digital scales that appear to be reliable and accurate) and secondly by the time I come home specifically to get the car (we walk most places but SW is too far) it seems too much hassle just to be weighed.

Loobz · 11/01/2005 20:03

Sparkler, hope you're feeling better {{{{Hugs}}}}

hi - i'm a new member of SW - and wondered if you could give me some ideas of what sort of main meals you have ? so i can plan ahead

many thanks look forward to getting to know you all.

SPARKLER1 · 13/01/2005 09:46

Hi all - just thought I'd let you know I'm still around. Not sticking to the diet very well though. Have been feeling very low and the diet hasn't been top of my priorities recently. Trying to have a good day today though - I am not going to quit!
Keep up the good work everyone. xx

Hi pickledonion (love the name BTW it's making my mouth water ).
If you like preparing and cooking meals it's a good idea to buy some of slimming worlds recipie books. Quite a lot of the meals are FREE. Dh is doing diet with me and we have great fun making tea together and trying new things.
There are lots of things we enjoy - at the moment our favourites are corinader and sweetcorn soup and vegetable jambalaya. We also like the chicken tikka masala in the recipie book but I haven't quite got the hang of thickening the sauce yet. Will think of more and let you know. Good luck. x

I am thinking of stopping going to the class .. I only go to get weighed .. their scales are 6lbs more than mine (and my GPs) .. I go in the evening and every other week seem to have put on weight .. almost 2lbs last night .. but when I weigh self in the morning after have always lost a lb or 2

I have STUCK to diet completely

I am breastfeeding and wonder whether that might have an effect

but I don't see why I should pay to just get weighed if I can use you guys to stick to it

or am I being stupid ?

DecafArabica · 13/01/2005 11:34

Sorry to hear about your gain Twiglett. I put on weight while breastfeeding too. And now that I am pregnant I know I will be putting on lots more. Had a 3lb gain so far and was disappointed, although know it's partly due to hormonal changes & water retention (and a bit of celebratory overeating), but the thing is, if I don't keep going to class, I know it'll turn into a 60lb gain as I have no willpower!

Loobz · 13/01/2005 20:36

Have just been to class and lost 3lbs - so pleased

ladymuck · 13/01/2005 21:07

Well I've managed to lose 6lbs since the Wed before Christmas, so feeling fairly pleased. I'd lost 10% of my weight last year, but it was starting to creep, but I have the best part of 2 stone left to go.

Demented · 13/01/2005 21:12

Twiglett, not going to sway you either way but I have decided to stop going to the classes (I know I've only just started), I don't get anything out of the meetings apart from bored and squirmy and don't see the point of just being weighed BUT I know for some it makes a huge difference so don't let me sway you. Just wanted you to know that you wouldn't be the only one following the diet and using MN as a support!

Demented · 13/01/2005 21:18

Loobz, Ladymuck and Christie, well done on your losses!

pickledonion, have you bought the magazine? I've tried a few the recipes from this month's issue and they were very nice. Other than that I've just been adapting my own recipes, using spray oil instead of ordinary oil, trying to make sure I get the balance of stuff on the plate right (if it's a green or a red day) etc.

Still think I am doing something fundamentally wrong, I cannot possibly be on a diet!!! I'm eating like a pig and lovin' it!

SPARKLER1 · 13/01/2005 21:45

Come on you guys where's the willpower??? Seriously I know exactly how you are feeling not doing too well myself. Missed class this week and so haven't got much to motivate me this week. Stopping class has crossed my mind too but I still want to lose a lot of weight and I know I won't do it on my own. Have two weddings to go to this year and it would be wonderful to buy myself an outfit in a much smaller size.

BTW talking of the SW magazine, there's a possibility that I might have my photo in one of the next few issues. One of the ladies in my group was sending in some poems to the magazine and has sent some photos off of some of us from our group. Watch this space

Demented · 13/01/2005 21:50

Can you actually eat too much food on SW? This is a genuine concern of mine. My consultant (who looks like a size 8/10) says she will sit down to a whole pack of bacon fried in frylight if she is hungry (on red days) and eats bowls of homemade soup as snacks (on green days), can you really eat as many Mullerlights as you want without at least turning into one?

Can anyone who has been doing SW for a while tell me if this really is the case, I'm still finding it quite unbelievable and astonishingly simple.

Demented · 13/01/2005 21:51

Oh Sparkler, you'll need to let us know, sounds exciting!

SPARKLER1 · 13/01/2005 21:55

Yep - eat as much as you want. Great isn't it. Just finding it hard not to eat as much chocolate and take-away as I want at the moment!
I think she has sent in a couple of photos - am in one and not the other so we shall have to wait and see.

Demented · 13/01/2005 22:02

It is true then still finding it hard to believe. I was sort of doing WW previously and got quite used to the hungry times of the day and holding out 'till the next meal so finding this really weird, but good.

I suppose the novelty will wear off and I'll be looking for the chocolate and take-aways too. Strangely I haven't had a takeaway since starting this plan (which for us is good, usually have one at least once a week even when on WW ). Thinking if I get desperate I could save up my syns for a kebab, the chicken one didn't look too high in syns and then the syns for the pitta on top of that or chicken tikka (the one with the separate sauce) with boiled rice.

Hope you get through your fed up stage, spring's coming, should help a bit!

Demented · 13/01/2005 22:04

Or flexi syns if it all gets too much. Reading about them a bit more on the website, sounds good if you get stuck in a rut and desperately want something naughty saves blowing it completely.

SPARKLER1 · 13/01/2005 22:06

I've got to do it. Will be really annoyed if I haven't lost weight before weddings. One in April and one in July. Not too far away.

OP posts:
ladymuck · 13/01/2005 22:26

Demented, you need to keep a check that the stuff you are eating is really free, and that you're not unintentially cheating. But basically yes, you can eat as much free food as you like. The idea is that much of it is bulky/filling and lacking in calories.

Eg, yes you can have a whole packet of bacon, but you're limited as to what you can have with it (eg brown sauce has syns, bread would use a healthy option so also limited etc).

I don't want to compare SW with Atkins as they are very different, but the "as much as you like" element is similar. Atkins is another "as much as you like" (though the choices are much more restricted). When the BBC team researched it for 6 months they discovered that although people could eat as much as they want, in general they were consuming fewer calories than normal (and hence losing weight).

So yes, you could eat 50 Muller lights per day in line with the rules of the diet, and probably you won't lose that much weight. But the diet works because in general you will settle down and have say 3 a day, and as you will be having those instead of bsicuits say, you will lose the weight.

So feel free to eat as much as you want. You needn't feel hungry.

Demented · 13/01/2005 22:36

That's reassuring ladymuck. I just can't get over how full I feel (not stuffed just satisfied). Personally I don't fancy the pack of bacon thing because I would want the bread, butter and brown sauce too !

The Mullerlights were worrying me a bit as I am eating three or four of them a day and I think that will calm down as the novelty of them is wearing off a bit.

Demented · 13/01/2005 22:37

One or two of the Mullers are usually for breakfast.

BethAndHerBrood · 14/01/2005 10:10

Went to my second class yesterday, lost 3 1/2 pounds. Feeling very pleased with myself, only another million to go!!!!
