Anyone else out there with 5 plus stones to lose? Who fancies doing a weekly weigh in with me?

I have got really overweight in the last couple of years and would love to meet some others who might be trying to cut down but not exactly dieting. Where do you start when there is so much to lose? Any tips on evening snacking? TIA

hi yummiemumma. welcome.

I had to repeat my blood test this morning - "something happened" at the lab with the other one

I have been exhausted these last few days and have been falling asleep putting the DCs to bed and not getting up. I have a niggly back pain again so am worried about a sciatica flare-up too. Needless to say my willpower not back yet, but as I've been sleeping my late-nate snacking has been curbed

I have abandoned the scales just now. I am enjoying reading everyone elses posts though

RGPargy · 01/07/2008 17:44

hello and welcome yummiemumma!

Well done on your losses this week ladies!

Ags · 01/07/2008 20:53

Well done Pink and Jaz - you are really doing so well to keep going consistently. That is the hard bit and 10 weeks in Jaz is brilliant!

I didn't weigh in today but a sneaky look at the scales tells me I put on 1 lb. However, I have chosen to ignore that and instead am refocussed on this week. Have been very good today.

Welcome Yummie. You will hear some great weight loss tips and stories on here!

Ria, hopefully they will manage to test this blood correctly! Very irritating.

justRia · 01/07/2008 21:49

well done on losing jaz and well done on keeping the bigger picture in mind ags.

Pink, if you don't mind me asking, how did you come to get prescribed reductil? Are you happy with how it's going?

PinkChick · 02/07/2008 09:20

Thanks Ags and Jr, i dont feel like im missing out (well im not, i eat more or less the same but chosose wisely now) so thats why i think im doing it properly..TBH the huge loss in the first 2 weeks give me a huge spur on..if i can keep doing 6-7 a fortnight, that will be great!

JR, i have tried every diet under the sun, plus my mum is big and has so many health probs, my own weight was beginning to scare me, so i went to nurse at docs and explained that i was in despair and that i didnt want to end up like my mum (she also see's my mum), i explained i couldnt take something that made me go to toilet, so she prescribed these and said as opposed to the others its basically me doing the work(cutting down)and tabs will help me to feel full after smaller portions..and they do!, ive actually been taking 1 every two days for last few days( as i dont want to be relient on them and mess up when i have to stop taking them after a year) and its still working, i think my appetite/stomache has shrank and my mindset has changed..i eat to keep going now, were as i used to eat /pick all the time!

justRia · 02/07/2008 10:22

thanks pink, I am v nosey

I feel like a lump today. I need to get some magazines out, read some inspiration and get my head sort beore the supermarket run. It will be hard though cos it's like a non-stop party with Dsis being here

RGPargy · 02/07/2008 10:29

Does anyone else get really fed up and depressed when summer comes?? I went to meet a friend yesterday morning and she has a 10 month old DS. She's petite anyway, but looked amazing in her jeans and strappy top and there was me in my hideous Evans top that i wore through my bloody maternity!

Then i went to my other friend's house for a meet with 2 more friends and they looked nice and cool in their strappy tops and cool clothes. Again, i felt really out of place and frumpy!

Needless to say it really got to me last night and instead of me and DP having an "eaarrrrrrrly night" (know what i mean? ) i ended up in floods of tears being all Woe Is Me!!

I dont know if it's hormonal or whether it's because i put on 2lb this week or what, but i'm feeling really fed today. sigh

SummatAnNowt · 02/07/2008 11:14

I lost some more but put it on because I was ill, bleh.

Am giving it a big push for 2 months because we go on holiday in September and I have nice clothes that I can get into if I lose weight, rather than having to buy more! My head seems to be in the right place which I think is 80% of the battle!

yummiemumma · 02/07/2008 13:26

well i weighed myself and i lost two pounds so now ive lost 12 pounds in the last five weeks

jaz236 · 02/07/2008 16:50

RGPARGY hunni you are doing well so what if you put on 2lbs dont crucify yourself over it! I have friends like that, actually all my friends are like that slim and gorgeous makes me sick so i know how u feel!

but the main thing is to stay focussed you may be feeling down today but tomorrow is another day and you will laugh and think what the hell am i playing at!!

Ive decided taht whne im down is to go and geta magazine or have a bath with wine and candles, or even go and get your hairdone!

yknow the best pick me up, apart from weightloss is having your hair done!"!

RGPargy · 02/07/2008 16:58

Thanx Jaz, you're so right about getting your hair done! Mine is grossly overgrown with lovely roots showing everywhere and as it's normally very short, when it grows out, it's really noticeable.

Might have to book something up very soon before i end up shaving my head a la Britney lol.

justRia · 02/07/2008 18:28

RG, I know exactly how you feel. All my friends apart from my Dsis are mega skinny, and they all seem to have loads of cash to spend on clothes and going to the gym, and eat/drink as much as they like. I hate showing my arms anyway but at the moment I can't bear to not have an "over" top on to "hide" the bulges.

I think I've sorted my head and I'll be planning tomorrows SW menu tonight. I feel really dizzy and headachey this afternoon, despite a nap with DS3. I will be winging it a bit with storecupboard stuff and the contents of the fridge and freezer as I can't afford to go shopping for extra stuff, but at least if I start trying again I might feel more in control and better about myself.

RGPargy · 02/07/2008 18:50

Glad i'm not the only one feeling like pants, Ria!

I think the weather has been a bit muggy this afternoon so maybe that's got something to do with you not feeling well?

Good luck with the SW menu planning!

jaz236 · 02/07/2008 20:46

ladies get your arses to zara, they have some fabu smock type dresses which cover up multitudes of sins!!

and seriously go and get your hairdone.

before i ballooned i was a size 10ish and was involved in fashion shows, not modelling might i add, organising etc. But i used to see these skinny girls in the changing rooms with no fat on them i used to be sooooo jeoulas of them and they would eat for england and hop on the catwalk, but then there were others that were far to skinny that made you feel ill and didnt eat etc.

gawd ill continue my rant later babies crying GRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrr

PinkChick · 02/07/2008 20:56

HI GIrls

RG..if i feel like that (most of my friends are same/bigger than me so i kind of think oh well, i fit in ill be fine!) i get out the false tan, wash and style my hair( a trip to hairdresser is by far better tho if you ahve the cash as you feel pamperd), pluck my eyebrows, shave my legs, paint my nailes and 'feel' better about myself.

The best bit of advice i can give if someone is unhappy with 'something' about them selves is find something you 'do like' or can instantly change to felbetter and DO THAT..my friend has beautiful false nails put on and regualry has them painted (in nail salon) diff colours, sometime jewels on, pictures(snowflakes/hearts etc)..and those are her 'THING' she feels nice knowing how beautiful her nails are..with me, its a hair cut and some fake tan..dont worry chick, you ARE ont he right road, but it will take time, its taken me all my life to put on all this weight, i dont expect to shed it overnight, i know im going to find it hard..even a few stones less, ill still be fat and wont look as good as the next person in same outfit, but i will feel better knowing im doing something about it

jenniebee · 02/07/2008 21:30

First week out of the way and i have lost..3 1/2 pound. Woohoo. Sw is great and the best thing is my DH is doing it with me for 'support' and only lost 1/2 pound. mwahhahahaa!!! (sneaky takeaways were admitted to group leader!)

RG i feel like that pretty much every day and hate my friends for looking like they have just come back from london fashion week whilst i'm sweating like a pig in my 'plus size' 16 clothes. Like others have said i try and do something for me that i know makes me feel better and fake tan always makes me look a little bit slimmer even if i look like i've been tangoed. Hope you feel a bit better tomorrow.

Ags · 02/07/2008 21:40

Can I really just advise to stay away from smock type dresses! It has been shown time and again that the worst thing you can do is 'cover up'. Slim fitting clothes make you look slimmer as long as they are the right cut to suit your shape. I know the temptation is to just want to hide but honestly it is not the way forward!

AND I can categorically say that there are plenty of times (even at my biggest) when I looked better than my size 10 friends who don't have a clue what suits their bodies.

So there, rant over. Just really don't want you lovely ladies who are doing so bloody well to hide yourselves away all summer.

Totally agree with making the most of what you have got. Accessories are a huge factor in catching people's eye. There is so much out there at the moment and it is very inexpensive. Go big and believe me it will take peoples eyes away from the bits you don't like and onto the jewellery.

Sorry girls, I don't mean to rant but I am so when I hear you all talking so negatively about yourselves.

justRia · 02/07/2008 22:45

so, I have planned breakfast and lunch (just finished making a bizarre looking no-syn veg minestrone type soup cos I didn't have any carrots sop put in any veg in the frige), I think dinner might well be eaily planned too as DH just got in so we are not eating the pork chops we'd intended to, might have them with salad and sweetcorn tomorrow.

I have chick peas soaking to make chick pea burgers tomorrow.

My head and I may not be quite in the right place yet, but trying and not quite getting there are far better than not even giving it a go.

wish me luck!

well done on your loss jenniebee - are you on the SW thread too?

justRia · 02/07/2008 22:47

BTW my smock top looks terrible[blush}, my wonderful encouraging DM said I looked more PG in it than I did when PG (and I didn't buy it til; LO 6 months old)

Ags · 02/07/2008 23:03

Oh Ria, you sound like you are being amazingly organised. Well done. Good luck.

jaz236 · 03/07/2008 08:54

naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa the smock type ones in zara not the nhaffy tent ones, i bought one the other day and its gorgeous its great with leggings

justRia · 03/07/2008 09:12

I'll have to check it out jaz.

Started well, though DS1 faffed about so we had no time to walk to school.

The good news is that despite my blatant lack of effort over the last few weeks I haven't gained any more weight

jenniebee · 03/07/2008 13:39

No i didnt know there was a sw thread, will jump over to that now. you sound very organised Ria!
As for exercise my dad is paying me £35 a week to walk the family dog! I feel like i'm ten again! Definately helps with money worries and fat worries tho!
