Anyone else out there with 5 plus stones to lose? Who fancies doing a weekly weigh in with me?

sandramaryb · 08/04/2008 20:06

I have got really overweight in the last couple of years and would love to meet some others who might be trying to cut down but not exactly dieting. Where do you start when there is so much to lose? Any tips on evening snacking? TIA

Hi RiaisMaLarkin thanks for your message, I'm here to egg you on too. I just read the walking link and I feel inspired!

Hi KelaS, I normally get through my 5 fruit and veg because I'm veggie. Its the carbs I really overeat on.

Vicky1984 - are you doing WW and weigh-in with us too?

Chocolatespiders are you going to start today too?

So, first scary weigh-in, have hidden my scales for the last 2 months. So this is it:

To lose: 7 and a half stone (I have been kidding myself about the 5 stone thing!)

My goal for this week: to chew my food

So here goes...

KelaS · 12/04/2008 09:40

Oh, I'm veggie too - but that doesn't always mean I eat them - I tend to overdo it on carbs too, but my biggest downfall is cheese and oils for frying things like onions - I forget just how bad they are!

As for weigh in - to get down to the top of my ideal weight range (according to WW) - a whopping 9 stone 6

My goal for this week - to snack on fruit in order to get up to the 8 portions of fruit and veg I am supposed to have (am breastfeeding).

vicky1984 · 12/04/2008 10:44

Hello

Yes sandramaryb i'm going to do it aswell.

Weigh in- i've got to lose 6 stone.

My goal is to go walking for atleast an hour everyday and only snack on fruit.

If i need any sort of encouragement or feel myself reaching for a choccie bar i'm going to look at pics of my dream wedding dress!

chocolatespiders · 12/04/2008 10:55

morning all ... nice to see you all...

Bit of background about me

i am 31, i am a lone parent to 2 gorgeous girls, age 10 and 4...
I work for the NHS in the community...
and i have had food issues for what feels like forever. i got down to 11 stone in 2001 but have since but it back on which i hate myself for... as i really want to be slim to have the confidence to be myself and not hide away, i would also love to meet a man after 3 years single, and that wont happen until i feel better about myself..

I have every single book written on compulsive eating, tried every diet and took many slimming tablets. but i am still in the same place - FAT AND UNHAPPY

well on a better note i have just weighed myself and for some reason i am less than i thought i would be
so my starting weight is 15.10 ...

I have had a severe sore throat this week so i guess i have eaten less beacuse of this but it didnt stop me eating melted easter egg

but i do realise now i need to be carefull as it could go straight back on ..... so all in all i would be happy to stay the same this week but to lose 2lb would be great...

KelaS · 12/04/2008 13:58

Good idea chocolatespiders, here is some background on me

I am 28, have one DD (10 weeks), currently on maternity leave from my boring office job .

I have always been big - went from being a chubby child to an oveweight teenager to an obese adult (in my late teens I weighed 15 stone, and that is the lowest I have ever managed to get down to as an adult. Just before I got pregnant I got to my heaviest weight (21 stone 10!!!), lost a stone from morning sickness and took most of my pregnancy to put it on, as soon as I gave birth I weighed less than when I got pregnant .

I've since lost quite a bit more through breastfeeding, but have gotten complacent and started eating too much, so have stopped losing - hence why I have joined WW and this thread - need the discipline to keep the momentum going.

samiestresure · 12/04/2008 16:01

hi ya just had a look at this and its right up my street i am 23 and my weight is 23st 8lbs im 5ft9 and i have no confidence at all am single mum to my ds who is 15wks i have split wiv his dad and i have no energy or motivation.
i live in a village so drive everywhere as no shops or any decent pavements in the village.

samiestresure · 12/04/2008 16:05

if any one can help let me know please or has any tips for motivation.

KelaS · 12/04/2008 17:37

My main tip would be to make sure there is always healthy stuff to snack on as well as the junk, and also to write down everything you eat, really makes you think before eating something.

Oh, and welcome!

RiaisMaLarkin · 12/04/2008 20:05

Hi samies.

I am just 30, and

RGPargy · 12/04/2008 22:49

Hi everyone

Haven't read all the posts, but have just skimmed them.

Anyhoo, I've got probably about 7 stone to lose. The weight's crept on over the years and believe it or not i did used to be a size 12/14!

I'm currently on maternity leave and am going back to work at the beginning of August () so i'd like to lose a little bit of weight before then. I'm joining Weight Witches next Monday with a friend of mine so that we can support each other.

I'm 40 years old (just!) and DD is 18 weeks. I'm BF too so i think that means i get to eat more

Hope everyone is well tonight! I'm currently on my second glass of vino and looking forward to the week ahead and having a bit of a "treat week" before i start next week.

KelaS · 13/04/2008 08:23

Oh yes, you get an extra 10 points for bf exclusively, 5 if your DD is having other sources of food

I went out last night, didn't watch what I ate at all, and looking at the points I think I only went slightly over, so if I cut the points back a little of the next couple of days I should be fine. I love bf!!!

sandramaryb · 13/04/2008 11:59

Hi Samiestresure and RGPargy, welcome to the group. We are in for the long haul as we've got lots of wieght to shift. I feel confident that we are going to help eachother though! samiestresure you sound really stressed out and it isn't surprising with a young baby. You need to not be so hard on yourself. When I had my first baby I really felt down for the first 6 months and a course of anti-depresants really helped me get out of the vicious circle. God, us women and our hormones, they've got a lot to answer for!
Sunday is my worst day of the week and I am trying really hard today not to go into the kitchen and snack.
Here's to feeling strong and having a good day

OP posts:
samiestresure · 13/04/2008 14:42

oh i wish i could have bf but couldnt as i didnt produce more then 20oz a day from both breasts plus ds went into special care for a week and it was realy hard to express so gave up after 5 weeks.
i dont really like AD was on them when i fell pregnant cause i was in a realy bad way then i was ok durin pregnancy but now im quite low again but i was always tired when i was on them. but i think i will have ta go back on them soon.
its my sons christening a week today and i am gonna look like a beached whale in the photos for sure!! i have not even sorted out an outfit yet ahh!!

RGPargy · 13/04/2008 21:01

KelaS - wow 10 extra points sounds good to me!

Sandramaryb - Thanx for the welcome!

Samiestresure - Sorry you had trouble with BF. Well done on getting to 5 weeks tho. At least DS got the best from you, even if he was in special care.

RiaisMaLarkin · 13/04/2008 22:26

Hi RGpargy - I love your name.

chocolatespiders · 13/04/2008 22:31

Do you think i am to late to get my 4 year old breast feeding again all those extra points!

bigbellylady · 14/04/2008 07:08

can I joine this thread ?

I am 35, have dc 6 and almost 3.

Have been overweight since my late teens when I discovered cider (well I do live in Dorset!) and takeaways.

I am 5'3 and approx 19 stone so have 9-10 stone to lose.

I started a thread about a personal trainer as have hired one to get me out of this rut.

I have been to SW loads of times over the years but I could never stick to it. I have read books on compulsive eating but they have never stopped me !

So far the training has been great, has stopped me binging on crap food and I feel good and positive I can achieve the weight loss in a healthy way (I had been looking into gastric banding as I am so unhappy about the weight)
This thread would be great for keeping it up as 9 stone will take a while to shift.

chewing20times · 14/04/2008 07:56

Hello I would like to join in too. Nice to find thread where people have got a bit more weight to loose. I am 36, and like some of you have been overweight for sometime and have just got to the stage where I have had enough and would like to shop somewhere else other than Evans! Am 22stone (first time I have admitted that to anyone - phew) and want to get down to 13 initially. So am trying to take it each week at a time.
I normally give up after 6-8 weeks and for some wierd reason always seem to try to sabotage myself or test things to the limit when I am on a diet. It's almost like I expect myself to fail. Anyway NOT THIS TIME.
One tip - I have been on a programme for the last 8 weeks where they sress the importance of eating regulary because it increases the metabolism and helps loose weight quicker. I am finding it hard to get over the normal diet thing of starving myself , but when I do eat three meals and no snacking - surprise surprise I did loose weight well. And drinking 2 litres of water a day as well.
Well - here's to success and I could really use the support.

Ags · 14/04/2008 09:14

Hi everyone, I am on another thread (Lulu has....) as I am 12 weeks into the journey you are all planning. I had 10 stone to lose 12 weeks ago and now I have 7 stone 4lbs to go. I am doing weight watchers and going to a meeting each week on Tuesday mornings.

My diet history is that I have always been overweight. I lost 4 stone about 5 years ago and then got pregnant with ds (now 4.5) after which it all went back on again. I also now have a dd who is 2.

I feel really positive and motivated at the moment and the joy of people noticing my weight loss is indescribable. It is also fantastic to start feeling bones that I only knew existed in principle!!

My diet tips are microwaved mushrooms (even my dh prefers these now), laughing cow light triangles (I use these as butter as they are only half a point per triangle and they are delicious used to mash into potato or to make scrambled egg) and last but definately not least is Crunchies (3.5 points but I find I have to have one every day to satisfy my chocolate craving and they are the most long lasting). Also I do subscribe to the big breakfast, medium lunch, small dinner way of eating and loads of water.

I am glad that there is a thread like this and I look forward to reading of all your successes. On the other thread we have a list of weight loss each week and then a running total which is very encouraging to see. Each weigh in each poster copies and pastes the last list onto their post and updates the figure for their weigh in.

fatkatyslim · 14/04/2008 09:50

congratulations on starting your weightloss journeys
i have lost nearly 4 stone since june last year.i joined ww in jan this year as i needed a kick up the bum lol
i have found this to be an absolute godsend . it really helps if you want to do ww but can't afford the meetings.good luck everyone

Ags · 14/04/2008 09:51

God, Chocolate, no shame needed! Everyone is up and down, good days and bad. The frame of mind is all important isn't it? When people ask me how I am managing to do well, I can't really answer. All I know is that my mindset is right. It could change tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, I don't know but long may it last and yours too!

RGPargy · 14/04/2008 11:19

Morning everyone

I had a bit of a wake up call on Saturday. I needed to pop to Asda to get something in for my friends who visited yesterday. Anyway, as i wasn't going to be long i thought i would just nip up there in my trackies with no make up on. BIG mistake! I was standing in the baby section of Asda just having a look when I heard someone say "RGPargy!". I turned round and standing there was a girl i've known for nearly 30 years (we were best friends for over 20 years). She was looking fab, glam and slim after 3 kids, with nice white teeth and a sunkissed glow and there was me looking like Waynetta Slob's twin sister!!! I just wanted the ground to swallow me up whole!! I hardly EVER go out in my trackies coz they are really slobby and the only time i do, i have to bloody bump into HER!!! The time before that she saw me sitting in the hairdressers under a gown with copper hair dye on my head, again looking a complete state! I bet she's loving seeing me look like sh!t lol! I'm 6 months older than her but i'm sure i looked about 10 years older! That's deffo an incentive to join WW next week i can tell you!

RaisMaLarkin - Thanx

Choc - It's worth a try isn't it! I also agree that you shouldn't feel bad about going back to the other thread. After all, i'm sure everyone on it is there to hold your hand and take you through the rough and the smooth!

Bigbellylady - hello and welcome! We weigh about the same, although i'm 5ft 5ish. Well done on getting the personal trainer! It's brilliant that you are so positive too.

Chewing - hello and welcome Isn't it funny how sometimes we think we are set on failing and push our self destruct button just to make sure that we DO fail and to re-affirm to ourselves that we simply cannot do it?? I've been there myself too. It's almost like we are scared to change and/or scared of the journey we are about to take.... But as you say, NO MORE!! We can all do some handholding along the way and with each other's guidance we will be seeing those pounds come off slowly but surely, i'm sure!

Ags - Hello and welcome! Wow, well done on your weight loss so far! That's brilliant and deffo an incentive for the rest of us! Good idea re the list. So am i right in thinking that it's like this: RGPargy - This week, 3lbs Total, 10lbs?? It'll be good to see everyone else's progress.

Fatkatyslim - Well done on your loss so far! Thanx for the link, i have book marked it. I am joining WW next Monday but sometimes you just cant be arsed to try and work out pointage

Have a good day everyone!

bigbellylady · 14/04/2008 11:38

it is nice to know I am not alone.
I am not planning to weigh myself every week. I had a fitness test last week which will be repeated in about 10 weeks so I am resisting the scales as looking at a more long term change.
I think with me the weekly weigh in does not work as I cheat myself by thinking I will be good next week - which usually does not happen !
The big thing for me is to learn to control how much I eat. I have just binged on junk food for the last few years so need to learn a new way of eating and not to rely on the feeling of being really full up.
I hope to stay positive and we can help eachother when it gets tough !

Ags · 14/04/2008 16:38

RG, NIGHTMARE! I come from Ireland so thankfully the risks of me meeting an old schoolfriend are fairly low but I know that feeling of being caught on the hop! Must be what it is like to be a celeb caught by the paparazzi on a bad day! By the way, you have the list concept exactly right.

BBL - Think maybe you should change that name!! It won't be big for long with that positive attitude you've got! It's all about what works for each individual isn't it? I, personally am a total scales junkie and weigh myself every day morning and evening! I know I am a freak but that keeps me on the straight and narrow as I know that my weight is immediately affected by a bad food day and it motivates me to be good the next. All my friends think I am a weirdo and I know that it totally goes against all advice but it suits me.
