Anyone Menopausal or Post meno wanting to lose at least a stone?

alrightluv · 20/05/2024 09:46

I'm mid 50s and post menopausal. I'm finding it much harder to lose weight now than when I was younger. I've joined another thread but wondered if anyone in a similar situation would like to join me?

I was 13 stone 3lbs a few weeks back and now 13 stone 0.

SW 13st 3 and GW 12st

I've upped my exercise been walking more. Today I'm going to work more on upper body and stomach. Maybe a bit of yoga?

Anyone else?

Me! Caught sight of myself in the mirror at the weekend (I've been hiding from them)..! Frick me I'm in bad shape. Menopausal, 52 and weigh 11stone roughly (last time I checked) I've always been slim and I've piled on the pounds in the past couple of years. I need to motivate myself to move more and eat less. I'd like to be 9.7 but I suspect that's too ambitious so I'll take 10stone for now.. see if that doable. My plan is to swim three times a week, do one exercise class (body pump) and use the treadmill at home for 10/20/30minutes 5 days a week to up my step count. I work from home sitting down all day which isn't helping me!! Today it starts 💪 good luck OP

alrightluv · 20/05/2024 11:00

@rockingbird sounds like a good plan. Lots of exercise there.

I forgot to put my height. 5 ft 8.

I've done 3 sets of squats so far this morning. A plank and 3 sets of different weight exercises for arms, some using dumbbells. Long walk later. I'm off work I worked all weekend.

Salad based tea tonight. I haven't eaten yet will have a late lunch.

I'm aiming to lose about a stone. Been post menopausal for about seven years now,l. Over indulging at Christmas meant my weight crept up and is now happily sat there.
Unfortunately I find exercise doesn't make a huge difference, so I'm going to have to do 5:2 as that worked well in the past. Still doing plenty of walking though!

alrightluv · 20/05/2024 11:17

Yes I agree @Stickytreacle food is the main thing. I was told by a gym owner it's 80% what you eat 20% exercise. Not sure how true that is?

I'm not going to rejoin the gym. My favourite exercises are walking, dancing and yoga I can do those at home or nearby. We live by the sea and next to a lovely woodland. Lots of amazing places to walk within 5 minutes. DH loves dancing so we've started learning salsa off YouTube. We can do modern jive. Also milonga. Well he leads I just follow 😁

I'm 5.3, sorry - I also forgot to mention my height! Sounds like you're off to a good start @alrightluv! Breakfast was black coffee and a banana, just about to have lunch : jacket potato with spaghetti hoops. Dinner will be Caesar Salad (no too much cheese)!!! 🥴

alrightluv · 20/05/2024 20:54

That sounds like a good day of eating @rockingbird .
I've done some squats, plank and arm exercises plus weights and an approx 4 mile walk with a steep hill. I love hill walking. Off work today and the weather was lovely down the beach.

I had a thin slice of peanut butter on homemade bread toasted. DH made a salmon salad loads of veggies. Then he did meringue with raspberries and cream 🙈 That'll be it for today though.

Good luck both of you for the rest of the week.

I would love to lose 1.5- 2 stone. I've put on nearly 2 stone in the last year due to medication and being peri (47). I've tried keto in the past and lost some weight but when I stopped I piled on more than what I lost.
I just want to wear my size 10 clothes again, I've just bought bigger sizes and now at size 14. I'm 5ft 5 and weigh 158lbs my goal weight would be 130-135lbs.

My day starts off well with porridge, lunchtime it's a salad with some protein but my pitfall is when I get home after work I just binge eating. Evening meal is always meat and veg. It's the snacking from 5-7 that ruins my diet and lack of exercise, although I have started doing upper body exercises over the last week and daily 1min planks and wall sits.

My diet starts tomorrow!

Begonias · 20/05/2024 21:16

I also want to lose the extra weight due to osteoarthritis and it really isn't helping my joints. I've already lost 2 inches of my height in the last 3 years.

alrightluv · 20/05/2024 21:43

Welcome @Begonias . That's a good reason to lose weight. Do you get a lot of pain? I hope you succeed it must be difficult.
Do you like doing any crafts? I started making pendants last night. Crystal with wire. Made some earrings this morning before we went out. Keeps my fingers busy and away from snacking.

I have a lot issues with my back and knees and the weight gain has just made things worse. I'm on a cocktail of medication for various autoimmune conditions so that doesn't help with energy levels.

I took up crochet this year and have made a few things, I find it very therapeutic. I tried jewellery making but I don't have steady hands for it unlike my DD.

alrightluv · 20/05/2024 22:37

Medication can cause weight gain too.
I can't crochet I don't have the patience. Yet I can spend hours painting a landscape?
Do you like to read? I find that a good distraction too. I find I snack more if I watch TV.

Good morning all. Feeling refreshed and knackered 😆 I've done 20 lengths in the outside pool at the gym and also a 15 minute abs and arm workout this morning. Staying focused on the goal.. drinking more water than coffee! Yesterday the food intake was spot on, trying to keep a log on my fitness pal. 1200 calories is my goal per day. In my lunch break I plan to do a light walk on the treadmill at home to keep up my steps. Have a great day all x

alrightluv · 22/05/2024 10:47

Wow @rockingbird that sounds great. Where do you live to have an outdoor pool?

I went out last night but drove so didn't drink. Also went to the cinema and resisted nachos. I did have a bag of crisps in the pub though.

Hopefully will get some exercise in today? It's really wet here so doubt we'll walk. I'll do some indoors.

I live by a very big banantyne gym and they have two pools. The outside one is so refreshing first thing in the morning! The rain seems to have stopped here.. for now! One bag of crisps is OK now and then, I find denying myself treats just makes matters worse and I rebel 🥴 I did resist the crispy cream donuts and let the kids have mine last night!

alrightluv · 22/05/2024 22:58

Sounds fab @rockingbird . I used to use a bannantyne gym when I lived in my hometown.
I haven't done that much exercise today. Some salsa dance with DH. No walking as the weather was horrendous.

At work tomorrow so I'll be fairly active. Hopefully be a decent day food wise?

Me. Im 52 and the weight keeps going up. I've been good for 3 weeks trying to lose a bit for my holiday on Saturday and have lost 1 measly pound. It's so demoralising.

ThePoshUns · 22/05/2024 23:05

Im 5'6" and weigh 11'10, I'd be happy to get down to 11.

alrightluv · 22/05/2024 23:27

@ThePoshUns welcome.
I totally agree. It's much harder now than it used to be.
I looked slimmer yesterday and today I look bigger? I haven't eaten badly. I don't think my hormones have settled yet.

sockoclock · 22/05/2024 23:53

Can I join you? Need to lose at least a stone and finding it so hard post menopause. I really want to do more exercise but really struggling with chronic fatigue so need to take it slowly. Trying to focus on low carbs, healthy fats, lots of protein. I need to not be too strict though, otherwise I just rebel as PP said

ImOldb4mytime · 23/05/2024 00:42

I'll join too, please. I'm 51, and my hormones are all over the place.
I'm immuno-suppressed and have Rheumatoid Arthritis as well as several other conditions, all of which cause me pain, etc, and this makes it even harder to lose weight, partly due to lack of exercise , but also due to medications I'm on causing weight gain.

I struggle with doing anything regularly as the pain just builds up. I was trying to go to the gym 4 times a week, but I kept getting injured/ overdoing it.
I had surgery in August, and I've put on 2 stones since. I managed to lose about 12 lbs over the last 2 months, but it's been hard going.

It's like I've got a football in my stomach 😩 and my bum has sagged, so I've got saddlebags type areas now 😢 which makes it hard to find clothes to flatter my shape, and means my self esteem has taken a beating.

I lost 9 stone about 10 years ago, which took me about 2 years, and I have kept it off ever since.

I've fluctuated a little bit over the last 2 years by maybe a stone at most, so putting on 2 stones meant I was the heaviest I've been in a long time.

alrightluv · 23/05/2024 07:53

Welcome @sockoclock and @ImOldb4mytime
I'm getting ready for work but will post again later. Sounds like you both have it hard.

Anyone still here? I'm trying to shift a stone I think. Weighed in this morning at 11 stone 13, want to crack the 11 stone barrier if possible. I'm 5 foot 7. 54. Going to start with 2 weeks of Cambridge diet to shrink my stomach.

Lentilweaver · 03/06/2024 21:46

I want to join, but I think I have given up the battle. I am 5'7 and a shade under 11 stone. I have been trying to lose half a stone for ages as it's all round my belly. My diet is very very good, my exercise could be better, but even when I up the exercise, I never lose anything round my tummy. I think I have plateaued.

I do want to start swimming next week, but it's such a palaver to get to the pool.
