Anyone Menopausal or Post meno wanting to lose at least a stone?

alrightluv · 20/05/2024 09:46

I'm mid 50s and post menopausal. I'm finding it much harder to lose weight now than when I was younger. I've joined another thread but wondered if anyone in a similar situation would like to join me?

I was 13 stone 3lbs a few weeks back and now 13 stone 0.

SW 13st 3 and GW 12st

I've upped my exercise been walking more. Today I'm going to work more on upper body and stomach. Maybe a bit of yoga?

Anyone else?

Weighed in this morning at 163 lbs so 4lbs off but first week is always the best weight loss. I'm just about to go to a pilates class.

Started 167 lbs, I'm 5 foot 7 and same as the rest of you, need to drop about a stone to get to a size 12.

wurlycurly · 10/06/2024 20:11

Well done @CampervanKween ! I know they say you shouldn't aim not to lose too much a week but I like to really run at it at least to begin with otherwise I lose motivation 😀... 4lbs is fantastic!

I know @thesoundofmucas it's so unfair the way our middles have expanded. At the time in our lives when pregnancy isn't a worry we look it! Mine has started to go but still too big.

So I weighed myself at the chemist today and was 74.9kg! FFS. And then I read I could only deduct 2lbs for clothes. Of course when I got home I weighed my clothes and they were nearly 2kg. So I'm 73kg. Is everyone else working in stones?

DirtyDensDog · 12/06/2024 07:20

Morning, my attempt to start my diet yesterday failed miserably.

Just weighed myself and I am 12st 2. The shock has put me in the right mindset to start today. I'm officially on it.

Lentilweaver · 12/06/2024 07:56

Morning.
Started the week well, kept to a good diet and walked over 40 k steps since Sunday. Also began intermittent fasting which does help with the belly bloat ( though so hard).
I actually think I am ok with my weight. I just need to tone my tummy and arms.Going swimming today. Would like to do that at least twice a week.

rockingbird · 12/06/2024 11:21

Morning all, just back from a 5k walk with a friend this morning. We talked about weightloss injections-anyone considered this? I'm giving it some serious thought 🧐

Lentilweaver · 12/06/2024 11:24

I have diabetes in the family - we are all slim diabetics thanks to our shitty Asian genes- but no, I have decided not to go for injections, as I am only a bit overweight and my BMI is still under 25.'

I am also able to control my eating. It's doing any exercise other than walking that I find tough.

wurlycurly · 12/06/2024 12:19

I've decided against pills and injections. I wouldn't get them on prescription because my BMI isn't high enough and I'd be wary of buying them online. Having said that, I know they are a game changer for lots and lots of people.

alloalloallo · 12/06/2024 12:35

Can I join you?

Menopausal and wanting to lose a couple of stone and finding I’m not getting anywhere fast.

I’d always been around 9 - 9 1/2 stone and was one of those annoying people who ate everything and anything without gaining weight. Then I hit 40 and my weight has slowly crept up and my most hated areas are thighs, stomach and arms. I’m now 48.

I’m going on a bucket list holiday in February next year and want to get back down to 9 1/2 ish - I went to Turkey last year and hated myself in photos, felt sweaty and flabby, had horrible thigh rub and wobbly arms and just hated it.

I’ve overhauled my diet and track calories, joined a gym, have a personal trainer once a week and play tennis once a week.

I started in April at 11 stone 12 lb and weighed myself this week at 11 stone 4 lb. I thought I’d lose weight quicker tbh, but I have noticed changes to my body - I am definitely more toned and my trousers are looser, but my stomach is stubbornly sticking around so I’m slowly losing motivation.

Mrcrabsleg · 12/06/2024 13:16

I’ve been quietly following you all and nodding my head in agreement at all your posts. I’m just coming to the end of my weight loss journey, having gained over a stone without even realising it! It’s been so insidious and not helped by this eternal winter which has made it very easy to hide behind big coats and woolly jumpers.

I am pear shaped but thanks to the menopause I’m pretty sure that the whole stone + went on my stomach, which is normally the last place I put it on, but god has it been hard work and slow going trying to get rid of it! I’ve also struggled with cutting calories like I never use to and have fallen off the wagon plenty of times, but have just resolutely got back on and tried to put the bad days behind me.

To the PP, if I had more to lose then I would definitely consider weight loss drugs, I think they have a place when all else has failed or the weight loss just seems to great to tackle without that extra help, especially when menopausal and feeling permanently knackered 😄

alrightluv · 12/06/2024 14:15

Afternoon everyone.
I had a decent day yesterday. I wasn't hungry and went 24 hours on a couple of coffees. Then went camping last night near a pub. 2 pints and pie mash and veg for tea. Oh and shared sticky toffee pudding. That's all I ate all day though. Then today had savoury french toast with Bacon maple syrup and roast tomatoes in the cafe on the way home. Tonight is chickpea salad.
I'll wait until Monday to weigh myself again and be good until then 😊

Morning all! Looks like there have been some successful losers this week iyswim.

I’ve had an ok few days; I mean, I’m hungry ALL the time but also pretty busy so have had sufficient distraction. Have done a 30 minute walk each lunchtime, on top of my usual rushing round so am finally hitting 10k steps

Anyway I’ve lost 0.5lbs in the last few days; every ounce is a battle but I’ll take that for now! I’ve found planning ahead even for snacks is important so I don’t reach for the biscuits and regret it later. We have friends staying for the weekend, which will test things though…

henlake7 · 13/06/2024 22:15

It really does get more difficult as you get older, doesn't it?
I've somehow managed to lose 7st during peri and am now struggling with the last half stone.
Not to mention getting used to being a different shape. My waist is 5ins bigger then the last time I weighed this much and I think it's going to stay like that (I already run, weight train and do pilates along with other cardio and walking so it's all toned....just bigger!).

i think my problem is I'd have to properly diet to lose more and I just like eating too much!😁

Loubelle70 · 13/06/2024 22:22

Im in..xxx

Lentilweaver · 14/06/2024 09:20

A probably silly question for those who weight train: I have begun with 3 kg weights which are likely too light. Do zi just keep moving up? And then what do I do with the other weights? I don't have much room.

I have tried diet and walking- zero effect on the menobelly- so weights are next to build some muscle.

alloalloallo · 14/06/2024 09:22

I weighed myself this morning and had lost 2 lbs.

I seem to finally be seeing some progress after months of losing and gaining a pound, albeit small progress.

It’s my belly that I’m struggling with. The rest of me is quite toned and I’ve lost weight from my arms, shoulders and thighs. My clothes are loose, except for my waist.

I’ve finally cracked eating shit late at night - I have to take medication before bed on an empty stomach so I can’t eat for 2 hours before I take it, or for an hour after. Sleep is the next issue I think.

Lentilweaver · 14/06/2024 09:24

Oh also any Asians here? We store weights differently. 😪

Well done @alloalloallo and those who have lost any. I have lost nothing the last week.

alrightluv · 14/06/2024 09:37

Hi all.
I fasted until about 1pm yesterday from about 7pm Wednesday. My jeans were loose and my belly is definitely smaller.

@alloalloallo do you take magnesium for sleep? I take a 5 in 1 magnesium supplement. Also vit D B complex and ginko biloba. I also wear a padded eye mask as any light affects my sleep. It's definitely improving. Not eating late helps too as my heart beats too fast if I do eat late. Plus I get a pain in the middle of my chest.

alloalloallo · 14/06/2024 10:08

Thank you!

I’ve been losing and gaining the same pound for months now so it’s nice to see it starting to go down for a couple of weeks in a row.

I don’t use magnesium for sleep, it’s been recommended to me a few times so I will definitely get some.

Sleep has always been an issue for me, but recently it’s been getting worse and I’m knackered.

@alloalloallo I hope it works. Lack of sleep affects everything. Yoga nidra is good too. You can listen before sleep in bed. There's no moving around. Very relaxing.
