Anyone Menopausal or Post meno wanting to lose at least a stone?

alrightluv · 20/05/2024 09:46

I'm mid 50s and post menopausal. I'm finding it much harder to lose weight now than when I was younger. I've joined another thread but wondered if anyone in a similar situation would like to join me?

I was 13 stone 3lbs a few weeks back and now 13 stone 0.

SW 13st 3 and GW 12st

I've upped my exercise been walking more. Today I'm going to work more on upper body and stomach. Maybe a bit of yoga?

Anyone else?

It's really tricky isn't it when there's not that much to lose. At my age who's looking at me anyway? It always seems such a massive effort and deprivation for very little benefit.

Lentilweaver · 03/06/2024 22:48

@CampervanKween you have absolutely summed up the way I feel. Nobody's looking at me. I wonder if I should just accept my new shape and weight. I just wish I didn't have such a pronounced belly and was more proportionate.

wurlycurly · 03/06/2024 22:50

Hello... I'm 54 and 5'4". I was weighed at a hrt appointment earlier in the year and was 78kg 🫣. I've lost a bit of weight since then and I'm 73kg. I would love to get back to 65kg or really really back under 10 stone so 63kg.
Once I shift a bit more I might get my running shoes back on. I feel a bit flabby yet

CampervanKween · 03/06/2024 22:55

I'm 54 as well 😌 only positive I can bring to the table is I think my periods may have stopped without fuss, so I'm hoping so has the binge cycle of craving chocolate before my period is due.

I've stepped up the yoga and pilates which seems to have helped with the general shape. There's just quite a lot of me still. A fine figure of a woman, is how my grandma would have described me 😁

Lentilweaver · 04/06/2024 10:49

aargh I put on some jeans today and they are tight. I find jeans and such really uncomfortable because of the meno belly; I have started to wear elasticated waists and I don't think I am that large! What I should be doing is weights and Pilates to tone my mid-section, but I can never sustain it. It's my new year resolution every year.

alrightluv · 04/06/2024 11:30

Hi everyone.
I'm sort of stable at 12.13. 5 ft 8 and almost 56.
I'm off work today so am going to do some exercise from YouTube. Apparently Lucy Wyndham Read is good? Do any of you recommend someone?

We can do this!

I'm a big fan of Les Mills. They have an app and I love their body balance. I did it all through covid at home and try to do it every morning although sometimes I cba to get out of bed..... it's a mixture of yoga and pilates and stretches and tones every part of you.

alrightluv · 04/06/2024 13:40

Cheers @AbsolutelyFemale I'll check them out.
I did 7 minutes belly fat video and 3 minutes for bingo wings.
Today I've eaten some berries, orange, nuts. Just baked a mozzarella burger in the air fryer whilst I did the videos. Had that in a bagel with roasted tomatoes that I popped in the air fryer for the last 5 minutes. Had celery and carrots crudites with tzatziki I made last night. I love veg and need to eat more. Those burgers were recommended by an Aldi checkout lady. They're lovely. I think meat loving dh will enjoy them. I'm not vegetarian just eat lots of vegetarian food.

I've spent the day in jeans that are too small. It made me feel full 🫣. I'm on a 700-800 calorie deficit. Finding it ok... I do this every five years. But I never learn to maintain the weight loss. It's a slow piling on of pounds!
Good luck all!

Morning! I have done a few Lucy WR ones.. look up juice and Toya they have some great workouts on you tube. I'm still being mindful and sticking to 1200 calories per day. I've found having breakfast and a late lunch works well. In the evenings I'm not fussed! A cuppa and two digestive biscuits around 8pm and I'm happy 😃
I seem to have a fear of stepping on the scales 🥴 what day are you weighing in? I need a little more encouragement on this!

alrightluv · 05/06/2024 10:31

Maybe Monday for weighing in? Although I'm more interested in toning up for my swimsuit at the moment. Going to Greece soon. Weight loss seems so slow.

I've not eaten yet. Had water and having a coffee. I've done the 7 minute belly fat and 3 minutes bingo wings videos. I'm going for approximately 5 miles walk today. Hilly too so good for the bum 😊 I'm not at work until the weekend so can manage to fit in exercise. I'll still do the videos at the weekend and am pretty active at work.

Good luck everyone.

We don't have scales in the house (teenage girls) so I weigh myself at the chemist. I will call in on Monday and face the music.
I'm walking to a freelance job today, so should get in about four or five miles. My job isn't sedentary so it's all about diet.
I'll check out the videos though; I could do with a fair amount of toning 😬
I mainly track weight loss by trying on trousers. I'm back into quite a few pairs and I'm delighted. I made the mistake of trying on the really skinny jeans... TOO SOON!

alrightluv · 05/06/2024 16:30

@wurlycurly sounds very wise. I agree that clothes sizing and how we look and feel is very important.

AbsolutelyFemale · 05/06/2024 20:06

Monday weigh in is a good idea. I've done a yoga class this morning then a body balance this evening so a good day exercise wise. Food wise not as good, lots of picking and it's hard when you've a house full of teenagers who are constantly eating!

wurlycurly · 05/06/2024 22:13

And mine can eat anything and everything and there's not a pick on them! I was the same of course

alrightluv · 05/06/2024 23:29

I had homemade veg lasagna and greek salad for tea. Had a couple of crackers and cheese and a small glass of wine tonight.
I got told tonight by friends I haven't seen for a while, that I'd lost loads of weight. I haven't? Must be the clothes I have on. I've only lost a few pounds since I saw them. Maybe I'm a bit more toned?

Today, I am frustrated at how little it takes to go off the tracks and put on weight. I relaxed a bit over the last week- nothing much, just eating a bit of extra rice and carbs- and I have put on about a kilo and feel bloated. Ugh.

I really want to restart the weight training.

TheDogdidGood · 10/06/2024 11:32

Can I join in too? I weighed myself today and am back to 12 stone 2lbs. Have been losing the same 4lbs over and over again. Late 50s, post menopause, currently have knee injury which is stopping me from exercising - I was doing HIIT before. Just want to get back into my size 12s. I think a stone would do it…

Lentilweaver · 10/06/2024 11:35

I forgot to put my height and weight. 5'7, 52, around 69 to 70 kg ( 11 stone) size 12. Also keep losing the same two kgs over and over. I would like to lose half a stone around my belly.
Getting back to low carb today.

alrightluv · 10/06/2024 12:01

Totally agree with the same few pounds coming and going. It's so annoying.

I'm going to fast today until tea time. I'm off work and not feeling hungry. Weather is pants so I'll exercise indoors.

FattypuffToThinnifer · 10/06/2024 14:08

I would also like to join in please? I’ve changed my name but have been lurking for a while.

Weighed in yesterday on my new smart scales, and at 5ft 3in and aged 54. I weigh 12st 6lbs - which for the first time ever, puts me in the obese category 😳 A lot of it is on my belly and I have an awful apple shape which I never had when younger.

My blood sugar is all over the place so I’m working on that, with only gentle exercise at the moment. First goal will be to get to 12st 1lb (so 5lbs down) which would get me back from an obese BMI. I’m going to need a lot of willpower because I love wine and cheese…

DirtyDensDog · 10/06/2024 16:52

Another menopausal fatty joining you if that is ok?

Will weigh in the morning. I am at least 12 stone and 5'4 so I do not carry weight well. I'm sick of being so lardy and miserable all of the time.

alrightluv · 10/06/2024 19:13

Hi all.
How are we all doing with food and exercise? I can understand not everyone can do as much exercise. Swimming is good for support. I prefer walking and doing YouTube videos. I've done a belly fat one today and walked which included a steep climb from the beach.
Yes was chicken stuffed with pesto with ham. Roast vegetables including Sweden, sweet potato, carrots, red onions, celery and asparagus. Olive oil used. I'm having a small glass of wine.

I ate a fudgy bar earlier. Dh made them from the fast 800 book. He's made them a lot but we both got upset today.

Good luck everyone. It's slower going than when we were younger but it's better than getting bigger.

I didn't get to the pharmacy to weigh myself self today. But I did wedge myself into my thin jeans. Which means, even with the top button undone, I'm making progress. Just back from my walk.
Saturday involved a lovely sunny and boozy lunch and I had to be very mean to myself yesterday and today to balance it out.
