The last 10lb

Does anyone fancy joining a support thread for losing the final 10-14lb? I've lost over 20lb now, and since hitting the overweight/healthy weight borderline it's become so much harder! I've been gaining and losing the same 2lb for almost a fortnight. I'm doing calorie counting, eating healthier, drinking lots of water, and walking more.

SW: 11 stone 4
CW: 9 stone 10-11
GW: about 9 stone or slightly under

I have an event in early June and I'd really like to be comfortably around 9 stone 5 by then. I would also like to get back into my pre-Covid clothes!

@StressyMessyJess About 5'3" and don't carry excess weight well!

Hevalison · 24/04/2024 14:11

I'd love to join, I'm 5 ft 3 ish and currently 153 lbs / 10 stone 13 (as of this morning). I carry weight alright on my top half but my thighs and arse are massive and I just can't seem to shift these 13 lbs, I'm forever fluctuating. I have a holiday at the end of May which I have been trying for two weeks to lose weight for, I am 5 lbs down but my body seems to stay at this weight now which is so frustrating. I'm drinking tonnes of water, walking, gym classes, minimising salt in meals and of course calorie counting. I'm wondering whether I need to reduce my calories further, but that would mean 1200 or less as I seem to be plateauing. Has anyone tried OMAD?

PrimroseYellow1 · 24/04/2024 14:41

@Hevalison I do OMAD and love it, I hate telling anyone though as they are usually horrified! I have a mug of milky coffee in the morning and then have a big dinner at 6 pm sharp. That’s it. Last night I had one chicken breast with lots of courgettes, leeks, roast tomato’s, onions, cavelo nero and new potatoes (the only white carbs I eat). I had thirds. I have been eating like this for a few months and am used to making my family toast, fry ups, lunch and snacks and ignoring it all. I feel great, it just suits me. I also sleep 10 hours a night.

PlateauArgh · 24/04/2024 14:43

I don't do OMAD but don't eat breakfast, which I think helps as it means you naturally intermittently fast without really trying.

Been meaning to post I think asparagus helps weight loss. Not very scientific but I have noticed I lose a bit more when I eat it. I mean the English asparagus in season now. My sister has a couple of beds of asparagus so I get given it. I know it’s expensive but just in case anyone wanted to give it a go. It’s delicious roasted in a little olive oil and salt.

PlateauArgh · 24/04/2024 14:58

Dates have been a big help for me. They're the only fruit which I find actually assuages the craving for something sweet after a meal, and they're SO sweet that I can only eat 2.

Well done OP hopefully that's the barrier broken now and you'll start going down!
I've fudged up the last couple of days with eating out/late. I've tried to make good choices but because I didn't feel I could accurately track ended up saying sod it and eaten more junk.
I suffer with insomnia and I'm in a really bad phase of it at the moment, and of course work is in a really busy period to add insult to injury. Lots of driving has meant I've leaned heavily on sugar to keep me alert but it's not a great solution!

I'll try again tomorrow, no obstacles that I can foresee other than my own willpower and my period around the corner

I used to do omad @Hevalison but not in a healthy, fasting, balanced way it was just straight up disordered eating so I stopped and try to incorporate a healthy lunch. This is proving difficult lately and I spotted a tin of SlimFast in the kitchen cupboard, seriously thinking about having those for lunch til I can get my act together.

Bit controversial but I like prunes when I'm craving sweet stuff! Or a cold apple when I need to crunch.

PlateauArgh · 25/04/2024 11:48

Still 9 stone 9 today! Phew.

I understand why it's easier to stay motivated when things are going well, but it would be nice if it was the other way around. My willpower is like iron if I can see results, but in a plateau I'm much more likely to think "sod it" and fall off the wagon.

9 st 11.2 this morning for me.
went for a little run on my lunch break as wfh today. Really struggled with the run, only did about 3.5k then called it in.
something is better than nothing right 😅

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/04/2024 08:23

@Frankgodno dh and I are both runners and we always say those ones you do when you really really don’t want to are worth double- you get legs miles and head miles, and if you ever do endurance running /long distances, it’s those head miles that get you through not the easy runs you skip through. Well done 👍

PlateauArgh · 26/04/2024 08:55

9 stone 8.8!

Once I get to 9 stone 7 I'm going to stop weighing myself every day. Looking back I seem to follow a pattern of dropping 2-3lb in a week, and then hitting a plateau for the rest of the month. I'll start weighing 1-2x a week during the plateau times I think.

@Frankgodno Well done on doing the run! I agree with @thenewaveragebear1983 that it somehow counts for more when you didn't want to go.

Just snuck into the 10s this week at 10st 13.8.
7.8lbs to go to get to my goal, although I think I will need to lose a little more, I'll assess once there.

RaisinRainbow · 26/04/2024 09:54

StressyMessyJess · 23/04/2024 18:26

Hi,
Would anyone who's goal weight is 9stone of less mind telling me what height they are please?
Just purely out of interest, I'm nowhere near 😁

I'm 5'2 with a GW of 51kg or 112lb. SW 59.6 kg mid March, CW 56kg. I'm working hard for this weight loss but am determined not to have another day and grumpy summer! When you are petite, every pound shows. I have a healthy bmi but my boobs are just too heavy and I have flabby thighs, arms and can grab fat rolls on my run and hips. I was typically 50kg until I gained weight in the last few years. I'm allowing myself that extra KG as a kindness. I'm post menopausal, mid fifties.

RaisinRainbow · 26/04/2024 09:55

Should read - fat and frumpy summer! Danged autocorrect😂

Frankgodno · 26/04/2024 12:33

Thanks @thenewaveragebear1983 & @PlateauArgh thats a very good way to look at it!! So true.

9 st 11.4 today
30 min dumbbell workout done ✅

PrimroseYellow1 · 26/04/2024 12:59

9st 7lbs, lost 2lbs this week.

@RaisinRainbow I am mid fifties too, my tummy has rolls of fat though they are getting smaller. I would love to go down a bra size. The band size has gone down (I’ve lost 2 stone exactly) but I think my actual breasts are still really big, I don’t think they have gotten any smaller! Is it a thing that our boobs get bigger as we get older or is it just fat and needing to lose weight?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/04/2024 13:35

I’m so bored of menu planning and I’m so bored at my desk today that I just asked chat GPT to plan my menu 🤣 I asked for 1400 calories, 120g protein, low carb…. Wrote my menu and my shopping list in about 20 seconds! So that’s my menu done for the week!

PlateauArgh · 26/04/2024 15:11

Well done @PrimroseYellow1 !

@thenewaveragebear1983 That's a good idea! I just eat very similar things on rotation... a bit dull but it gets the job done.

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/04/2024 15:55

@PlateauArgh I’m actually going to try it this week and see what happens. To be honest it’s not the most exciting menu, but I’ve done low carb before and it’s nothing different to that. Protein shake for breakfast, salad + protein for lunch, meat + veg for dinner. Plus a snack of Greek yogurt and almonds- worth a try!

NahThen · 26/04/2024 18:06

9st10.5 this morning, not too bad- slowly losing the Easter gain. I think my period is due and I haven't been great so I'll take it!
I've twinged something in my back so will need to watch what I'm doing exercise wise for a little bit.
@thenewaveragebear1983 I ask my AI on Snapchat stuff like that all the time, it's so handy! 99% of the time I'm eating alone so it's quite nice to have "someone" tell me what to make 😂 great when I'm struggling for sides ideas.

loveyouradvice · 26/04/2024 22:40

Shall we have a weighing in day or just post when we like?

SW: 14.2
CW: 11.08 - phew! 3lbs lost so back where I was 2 weeks ago
GW: 11.2 so 6lbs to go

6lbs to go - SO satisfying to write that!! I've now got to hold it and then gently edge down... IF works for me. Sometimes I've OMAD'd and its been great for me, at the mo I'm mainly doing good old-fashioned 16:8 with a Prolon 5 day once a month to tackle some health issues, with the side benefit of weight loss.

I'm fascinated to know how many calories most of you are eating? I'd usually aimed for 1,000 as that's what dieting's always been since I was a teenager, and I've done Mosley's 800 a day for 3 months a couple of times, so I'm finding it positively liberating to now be eating 1300 or so. I've never tried to lose weight eating 1300/1500 calories - it seems like a great approach. (until I get the munchies, of course!!)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/04/2024 22:53

@loveyouradvice i suppose it depends on your tdee, I couldn’t exist on 1000 a day, it’s too low for me. But if you’re shorter and small framed then it’s possibly enough.

NahThen · 27/04/2024 06:30

@loveyouradvice well done on your loss so far, that's incredible! I like your approach of nudging your way down to target, that's sort of what I'm doing too.

MFP gives me just over 1400 a day but I've only got it set to lose 0.5lb a week. This is good in two ways- firstly, the cal target is doable which means I'm more likely to stick at it and secondly, slower losses seem easier for me to maintain. Saves a bit of yoyo-ing.

I usually come in a bit under, deliberately, because I don't track as accurately as I probably could. E.g. I don't track every bit of lettuce, cucumber and I don't drink a lot of hot drinks so rarely bother tracking splashes of milk.
If my progress stalls and I'm sticking to things I'll have to reconsider!

Menora · 27/04/2024 07:41

Another 1lb down finally

I have lost 4st 1lb now 😂 in a year

11lbs to go to my goal of 10.7

I eat 1400 calories a day and lose weight, slowly but I do. It is correct it’s more realistic. I would feel unwell eating 1000 a day for months is not enough for me to be sustainable. You just have to be patient

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/04/2024 07:58

@Menora wow 🤩 that’s incredible!
