Anyone want a weight loss buddy to obsess with?

I need to lose a stone. I can’t be stout any more. I tend to do well with a bit of daily accountability so anyone up for a weight loss buddy to commiserate, support and obsess with?! Starting Monday obvs. 😬

Well I’ve lost the grand total of 1lb. Intermittent fasting but I’m getting really caught out in the evening and also afternoon slump too. Wfh is a fucking nightmare for snacking.

A loss is a loss, I weighed on Monday and hadnt lost anything (wasn’t expecting to the amount of rubbish I ate at end of week) but feeling hopeful now. It’s hard isn’t it when other people around you aren’t following it you feel like your missing out x

Feeling realllly hungry tonight but holding on, 1200 calories today , made an omelette for lunch and chicken stir fry for dinner
also had protein bars between but kept my eating inside 6 hours! Actually not feeling as tired don’t know if it’s the weather being a little nicer but went to the gym this morning a small walk this evening!!
hope everyone else is doing well to X

Can you go to bed early? I always used to do that when I did intermittent fasting last time, as I never feel hungry in the mornings, the hunger is quite distracting in the early weeks until your body gets used to it. I can't got to bed early now as I have to work into the early hours, so I'm sitting here contemplating having something, I had a sandwich for lunch and macaroni cheese & veg for tea.

I don't feel hungry though, I think I feel bored. Maybe a cup of tea will help!

Aileen1992 · 25/04/2024 22:51

Thanks for the reply @sandyhappypeople yes I think I’m going to go to bed now even if I don’t sleep immediately I won’t get up again , the last few nights I’ve went to bed earlier too because I didn’t want to snack and it did help and the extra sleep had maybe helped too!

are you still fasting? How long have you been doing it? I’m only on day 4 but I do feel better and feel like even though I’m a bit hungry I’ve gained some sort of Will power back that I feel like I’ve struggled with!
I had a cup of camomile tea there and it does help, and you are right the morning time seems much easier than this stage!

I started intermittent fasting around 12 years ago, I started off with quite an extreme calorie intake (around 600 cals per day) for a couple of weeks, which was brutal, but after that I just didn't feel hungry, so while I was hungry just before my two mealtimes, I didn't feel hungry after. I lost 7 stone over the space of a year, and to be honest the weight just fell off, but after a while I knew exactly how much to eat and when, I portioned my meals and didn't snack at all.. if anyone offered me anything, I would check if I was hungry or not, and if not I wouldn't have it, no exceptions. If I didn't pre-portion my meals, I always stopped before I had finished and got attuned to the 'full' feeling that meant I'd had enough. I always went to bed early and slept about 9-10 hours.

I put about 1 stone back on over a couple of years, when I met my DH but was still happy with how things were and stayed around that weight, I had stopped fasting but still restricted my portion sizes, still didn't really feel hungry.

Then I had my daughter, who is three now, and never really lost the baby weight, my portion sizes increased over time, I started eating chocolate and sweet stuff again and I've struggled with it ever since, eating her leftovers and DH eating a lot and snacking a lot (he burns it off at work) has given me bad habits, and now I only have around 5-6 hours sleep, that's a lot of awake time to feel hungry!

I've been back fasting since last sunday, but weirdly lost no weight the first week, I feel different though, clothes are feeling a bit looser, if I can stick to it I KNOW it works, but the cravings in the evenings are getting to me a bit and when I feel tired I want to reach for the snacks, I'm determined this time though, we go away in Mid May and I want to not cheat at all with the fasting before then if I can do it!

oh my goodness 7 stone that’s amazing!! Thanks for sharing , some good tips in there for me too as this is my first time following this fasting , but I have lost weight before on calorie deficit but my control hasn’t been great recently and like you say when you feel tired you snack, me too! But it would make more sense to go to bed a little earlier if I feel tired than eat and still not feel much better.

when you have little ones It’s a lot harder because there’s always something going on , and once I get them to bed it’s like I can have a wee treat now 🤣 then I have 5 treats and feel awful lol

well I’ll be trying my best to stick with it with you!

So I’ve had a rethink! Calorie counting is just not working for me anymore. So I’ve decided to switch to intuitive/mindful eating. It’s been good so far. I’ve got a few apps and tools to try out. Eek!

Sounds like a plan! Is that only eating when you're hungry type thing or is there more to it to think about? Sounds intriguing.

I'm having a bit of a wobble about everything.

I've been hit by a virus, started a week ago today so I missed my gym session. Did a session Saturday as well as a run but skipped Sunday and Monday gym as well as 2 runs and this Friday's gym. Not sure if I'll be able to do a gym and a run this weekend, I'm feeling better but so tired!

I've been sticking to my calories bar one day when it was at maintainance but my issue is that those calories are calculated on 3 days of gym and 3 runs. I've done fuck all this week, driven a lot for the school runs, had a day off sick from my active job as well as a short shift. I just know my running will be set further and I'm expecting a weight gain. I'm just so grumpy because it's so hard. I feel like a massive blob, my hips are huge and I'm expected to hide them but it's bone, I can't get them any smaller! I found some long dresses that actually look OK due to my shortness but I get shame for my hips looking bigger than my shoulders. I'm only wearing them for a casual outing, why can't I just wear what I want as long as it's not obscene. I don't go out on daily life looking the most perfect I can, you are lucky to see me in anything other than trackies at the supermarket.

Urgh.

And breathe.

whosthefoolnow · 26/04/2024 21:47

Your allowed to do less when you are sick your body needs to build itself up again, don’t worry too much you have stayed good with your calories which is brill because I would have used it as an excuse to pig out , don’t be too hard on yourself.

also I think more and more people now adays want bigger hips - I also have big hips and I’m not paranoid about it because think once you get to your goal weight how they will look! I do actually think it’s more womanly and compared to straight up and down I would take hips any day!

sort of. I don’t want to make it seem more complicated than it is! It’s being in charge rather than in control. It sounds like the same thing but that subtle difference is key. So bring ‘in charge’ is about making conscious decisions about what/when/why/how you eat. Sometimes you might eat when you’re not hungry but as long as you consciously choose that and know you’re meeting another need apart from hunger with food that’s fine. Equally you’re encouraged to eat what you want but to stop when your body is full.

Aww. I feel like I’ve been a bit absent as not had a lot to add because I’ve been unhinged around food. I’ve been exercising yes. Running and weights mainly. Looking forward to seeing how mindful eating goes. I’ve got an app!

food
2 cereal bars
half pizza
chocolate bar
2nd half pizza. 😊

sounds a lot but it wasn’t too bad!

I went quiet too for a few days so don’t worry about it! I think I was just annoyed at myself but coming round again! What app did you get?

food
chilli chicken
cinnamon swirl
chilli chicken baguette salad
protien bar

came in 1283 and still ate stuff I liked .. probably the worst day for healthy eating but still not annoyed about it because I stuck inside the cals.. only because I started fasting straight after dinner!

You're sticking to your calories, so I wouldn't worry about anything else until you feel better, being ill really takes it out of you so well done for managing to keep on track, I sometimes just throw everything out of the window when I feel ill, but that's probably because I'm a classic comfort eater!

sandyhappypeople · 27/04/2024 00:01

That sounds great, I'd say this may be what I do a little now inadvertently when I'm fasting, I recognise the full feeling which indicates I've had enough, but it's not because I actually feel full, but I know from that feeling that in half an hour I won't want any more food, it's so tricky though because when you're eating something nice you just want to carry on!

I also eat what I want but only small amounts, I do however cut out all chocolate and sweet food, they are my total downfall, so before I start intermittent fasting I go cold turkey on chocolate and anything sugary for a couple of weeks, it's horrible but after that there doesn't seem to be any cravings that a hot chocolate can't fix, after a while chocolate just tastes weird and not particularly nice, which helps.

Ch4ng3dn4m3 · 27/04/2024 06:53

Well done everyone on their losses, changes in body, for sticking to it and getting back on it, there will always be ups and downs on and off the scales.

@Pickingmyselfup I agree you have to rest when unwell, so don't beat yourself up. Also why and who expects you to hide your hips?

I've not done the same level of exercise the last couple of days as I'm on my period and I just don't have the stamina. I'll get back on it Monday, you can get back on it when you're well and energised.

@Aileen1992 re feeling hungry, have you tried chewing gum? It kinda tricks you in to thinking you're eating and curbs hunger.

@GreatBritishBeakOff good luck with the mindful eating it's sounds like a healthy approach to eating, when I'm on target I might consider it to change my mindset, however for now I need control.

I think I posted near the start of this thread and then lost track of it. May I join you at this point? I’m in such a bad place with weight loss and have put on 6 lbs in 8 weeks despite trying to be losing it.

I have just lost all my will power and my periods have stopped too. Normally I put weight on over the course of a month then lose it when my period starts. Not sure if it’s perimenopause or my implant suddenly working better than usual. I’m not pregnant.

Anyway I’m going to commit myself to updating on this thread and really make an effort. First step is completely removing sweet stuff from my diet.

I know it's necessary to rest and I've had the worst headache and low energy so just moving has been a miracle.

I know women are meant to have hips but I think for me it's because they aren't in proportion. My shoulders are really narrow as is my waist so my hips really stand out (as does my bum!) I can't really do anything about my hips because it's the bone that makes them stick out. The bum...maybe a bit but I'm just a natural pear shape.

I've had comments on my shape for years, mostly by my female relatives. Like oh you still have big thighs, you get your big legs/hips from so and so. From others it's things like "child bearing hips" "I didn't realise your bum was so big" although apparently I'm "in fashion" because of it.
