Welcome one and all. Need a few online chums doing the same. No rules. Do it the way it suits and post as often as you like.
I'm currently trying to get from 65.0 kg to 60.kg and losing 1lb or 500g a week. (have come down from 69.1kg). I have a FitBit, and use the Happy Scales app and had planned to up my step count but the incessant rain is not helping. Doing 10 stomach crunches a day from TODAY. (165 cm / 5'5"). Very happy to have your company and steal your ideas and suggestions.

Can I join? Sorry I'm a bit late! If I can, I'll post my starting weight in the morning if that's okay but I am 5' 5" and hover around 10-10.1 and I really want to get to 9 stone 7lb.

I have apple fitness+ which I used brilliantly for 18 months until last Christmas and then a combination of illness (covid/colds/bad back etc) has meant that I have barely exercised. And I did love it so much so I want/need to get back into the habit.

Sukiesue12 · 07/04/2024 22:01

Can I join? 5kg by 1st July will get me well on the way to the weight I want to lose by mid august for a lovely holiday. 5’8” and 83kg, need to get down to 70kg which is where I was at the beginning of lockdown, having worked hard to get down to that from 89kg. I have lost and gained the same 3kg for the last year and I can’t keep doing this. Seeing other people going to the gym has made me sign up for a spin class Tmw!

Beatrixslobber · 07/04/2024 22:04

Please may I join?
I like that there’s fellow shorties here with lower weights than many threads where people like to shame others for wanting to lose weight! I’m 5”2.
current weight: 57.8
Goal: 44.5

I had always been petite but illness and the resulting medication saw me putting on the pounds quite quickly. I no longer feel like myself.

I run 3 times a week, lift weights 4 times a week but my diet is beyond awful.

From tomorrow I’m on strict fast 800 for two weeks, low carb, high protein. 2-3 litres of water and minimum of 10000 steps. I’m also incorporating meditation as stress and poor sleep are definitely a problem for me.

After two weeks I will reassess and possibly move to 5:2 alongside 16:8.

Mum5net · 08/04/2024 09:47

On board across the weekend are @Bubbleswithsqueak @Sparticle @Sukiesue12 and @Beatrixslobber so we are officially 35, and thanks to @5YearsLeft we have verified international appeal.

Light bulb moment... My big weigh in today was disappointing. Down 0.3kg when I though I'd been really good. I averaged 16k steps and stuck rigidly to 16/8; fourth consecutive week of plateauing...
Numbers don't lie. I have the graphs on Happy Scales app to prove there is no shrinkage. It's pretty obvious my efforts are actually a 'maintaining' regime.

So it's reboot time.
Incremental effort all the way.
Parking 800m further away to do extra steps... loading the washing machine by going upstairs four times instead of one...I will literally water my food down by eating soups for a few days!

Adding colour to my week not sugary fruit.

Thanks for the welcome @Mum5net Brew

So I weighed in this morning at 10 stone 0.6 which is 63.8kg (according to an online converter) and I want to get to 9st 7lb which is 60.3. So not quite 5kg but I'll give it a go!

Got back on the rowing machine this morning for 20 mins. I took it easy because of my back but I do love won't. Had never tried it until I saw it on AF+ and thought the machine would take up less space than a treadmill. I got a bargain for £40 on Facebook marketplace a year ago and love it so much. Except for when my back twinged 10 days ago after a few weeks not rowing 😭

Sparticle · 08/04/2024 10:08

*but I do love rowing

Mum5net · 08/04/2024 10:10

@Sparticle I'm doing a lot of 'rowing' with my scales. This morning I verbally abused them after they were very rude to me about my weight...

chalkyc2 · 08/04/2024 10:16

Me too @Mum5net.

March and April are really tough months for me with birthdays, Mother's Day and Easter. I've been hovering around 68-70kg for 6 weeks now. I need to get on the programme and clean up - no more treats.

Peloton this morning for 30 mins. I've twinged my calf muscle running/playing hockey so can't run at the moment. Dragging the snoozing 13 year old out for a walk after work.

Hiddendoor · 08/04/2024 10:48

Hello!
I'd like to join too!

I'm quite fluffy and flabby at the moment. A combination of not exercising and eating too much. I won't weigh myself because I know it leads to Dark Thoughts and self hatred.

I want to get back running again but need to get fitter and lighter to do so.

Intention: cut out sugar. I did it before successfully until Easter 2020 and ate my covid worries.

Exercise: will do 3x week as a minimum. Swim 20 lengths once, one yoga session and at least one go of the rowing machine. This is on top of the 8-10,000 steps i do walking the dog and school run (have been pretending the walking is enough but it very much isn't).

My cardio fitness is rock bottom. I'm out of breath and wobbly. It makes me sad.

Started today with 26 minutes on the rowing machine (first time in 6 months, the shame). Feel good.

Good luck all!

🤣 your poor scales!!!

@Hiddendoor well done getting back on the rower! Do you follow any plan or just get on and row?

HoneyMobster · 08/04/2024 18:01

Intrigued by what it is to be 'fluffy' @Hiddendoor

For many years I also found stepping on the scales difficult. Several years of an ED as a teenager left a scar. But in recent years I've ventured back on them using a Renpho or Boditrax scales.

I'm a bit of a stats geek and find the fat / muscle / visceral fat stats really interesting, much more than the straight weight number. I don't like losing weight these days if my muscle % decreases. It's been a bit of an eye opener tbh.

Weekend was rather indulgent but a lot of fun. Planning a disciplined week. I think weekend off / week on is the plan that's going to work for me.

Mum5net · 08/04/2024 18:25

@HoneyMobster
I understand the appeal of the geeky stats.

Could someone transition to that way of measuring simply by buying a £30 pair of scales and downloading an app?
Even if they had no notion of joining a gym or lifting weights or rowing?
Also, do you think there would be % decreases by only doing stomach crunches and walking more?
Asking for a friend.

So I weighed myself today, no change 🙃, I'm hoping it will start shifting soon!

Beatrixslobber · 08/04/2024 19:00

@HoneyMobster thats exactly what I like about my Renpho scales. I don’t like just seeing the weight.

HoneyMobster · 08/04/2024 19:14

@Mum5net - I think you probably would see changes without weights / rowing etc. When I first lost weight the first thing I saw was good improvements in my visceral fat - the nasty fat but unseen fat around your organs that's associated with health problems.

You can also keep an eye on fat and muscle % as you lose weight. As I understand it l, one of the drawbacks of many diets is that you risk losing muscle rather than fat. As 'women of a certain age' we really don't want to lose any muscle, it's on a downward trend as we age anyway.

If you're watching your macros (I'm upping protein and going for lower carbs) you'll probably see that reflected in the Renpho scales with increased % protein and better muscle %.

I'm not on commission by the way!

Mum5net · 08/04/2024 19:35

Thank you.
I'm really tempted to switch tracking systems as it doesn't appear to cost the earth to get new scales and the ones I have have been well used.
Essentially, I've been upping protein and lowering carbs, too but never said it out loud.. So I will YouTube Renpho and Boditrax to see their introductory trailers and decide if one looks more welcoming than the other....

Good to chew on little gold nuggets of info,.. rather than just chewing ....

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 08/04/2024 20:09

I'd like to join please!
I'm 50, 5'2" and 133lbs
I've got a small frame and really don't carry extra weight well as I end up looking like a barrel. I've found it increasingly hard to control my weight thanks to menopause (and despite being on HRT)

My diet in terms of main meals is good, I cook from scratch and eat fruit & veg etc. but my downfall is sugar and in particular chocolate (Easter didn't help!!)
I have hardly any willpower and I find it easier to completely cut things out than try to cut back - if I have one biscuit I end up eating 6 whereas if I can fight the urge to have the first one the craving eventually wears off. I'm desk-based for my full time job so unfortunately spend a lot of time sitting (and no budget to get a walking pad and standing desk in my office!) I went on holiday in September and lost 7lbs for that and was delighted with myself it was a great feeling but I've really gone off the rails since then!

My plan is to do intermittent fasting as well as cutting out the crap, I've done this before and it worked for me. And we're getting a mini gym in my office next week so I intend to use the treadmill every day and up my steps!
Have a holiday booked for mid July so would really love to be 10lbs down in time for that.

Beatrixslobber · 08/04/2024 20:40

Today had been ok for me.

Finished on 831 calories although only 82g protein so need to work on that.
Drank 2 litres of water.
Gym session first thing.
Just over 9000 steps. Need to do more but see below…
Attempted a run but had to stop due to the weather (don’t mind the rain but the wind actually stopped us from being able to move forward!).

I’m not hungry but worry that this is only day one and that the food especially is likely to get harder.

Hiddendoor · 08/04/2024 20:56

@HoneyMobster I have the body consistency of a squishmallow. Bit fluffy and soft and wobbly!

Hiddendoor · 08/04/2024 20:57

Sparticle · 08/04/2024 16:08

🤣 your poor scales!!!

Oh, I just get on and row. I listen to music or a podcast and row for a set period of time. If I had to follow a plan I would do it obsessively for a month or so then lose interest.

kessiebird · 08/04/2024 21:24

Just seen this as I'm not a regular poster but think it might help, if I can join this late! Been trying to lose 7-10lb since February. Lost 0lb. Beach holiday in 6.5 weeks, first time since 2018 when I was lighter. Put weight on during Covid and by WFH in a stressful job for four years, just gone back to a face to face role and my steps have increased.

H: 5ft 3
SW: 11 4lb
CW: 11 4lb
GW: 10 9lb (or there abouts, anything between 10 6 and 10 10 is fine.)

Might be better if work this out in KG and aim for one at a time. Weigh in Friday.

Not sure that is realistic in 6 weeks. I'm 51 and weight doesn't shift any more. Enjoy exercise 4-5 times per week but love snacking and don't drink enough water. No exactly what I need to do but can't do it 🤦

Today I've been for a 20 min swim. Stuck to 1244 cals. I'm using Nutracheck.

HoneyMobster · 08/04/2024 21:56

@Mum5net - it will be Renpho you want for 'at home'. Boditrax is better but typically only found in gyms. I use the one at my local David Lloyd.

Sparticle · 09/04/2024 07:35

Morning all and welcome @kessiebird :)
@Hiddendoor I should try that for a change instead of pushing myself on AF+ while my back is still a bit twingey.

I'm currently on a cross-country train to Leeds, then back towards Liverpool, staying overnight then home after a day there in the office tomorrow. No idea what I will eat tonight but premier inn 'healthy' pasta (ie low-cal tomato sauce) is extremely boring. Still, at least I'll get some steps in.

zebranotzeebra · 09/04/2024 07:54

I'd like to join please. Getting married in July and got a stubborn half stone ish to shift! No real plan, beyond axing the snacks and eating as much real healthy unprocessed food as possible. Fully low carb doesn't work for me, but aiming to reduce carbs by half and replace with veg instead. Exercise wise, I have a toddler so options are limited but I do online strength and cardio classes and yoga on YouTube where possible. Plus loads of walking and running after said toddler!
5ft2, 9 stone 9 just now. Would love to reach 9 stone by July!

HoneyMobster · 09/04/2024 08:32

Welcome @zebranotzeebra and congratulations on your forthcoming wedding! Do you have your dress yet?

I'm running a 10k on Sunday so have been out for my last 'long' run today - 8k. One of the good things about being a bit lighter is that it's easier to run! Stands to reason that if there's less of you to move less effort is required and/ir you go faster.

Scales back to pre-weekend excess levels this morning.

SW 11 stone 4
CW 9 stone 7
CW 9 stone
