Welcome one and all. Need a few online chums doing the same. No rules. Do it the way it suits and post as often as you like.
I'm currently trying to get from 65.0 kg to 60.kg and losing 1lb or 500g a week. (have come down from 69.1kg). I have a FitBit, and use the Happy Scales app and had planned to up my step count but the incessant rain is not helping. Doing 10 stomach crunches a day from TODAY. (165 cm / 5'5"). Very happy to have your company and steal your ideas and suggestions.

Well done to all those who are successfully losing weight.

And to those that aren't, it's ever so depressing! I lost a nice 9lbs over the course of 3 months by fast and feast. Then I went on holiday for 5 night, All Inclusive and I absolutely did not go crazy. Skipped breakfast, lunch was salads or baguette and dinner was a la carte rather than load your plate buffet. I did not snack at all (I'm not a knackered anyway) I did drink a little more than usual though. I walked a fair bit more too..... I've gained 7lbs! I'm not amused. I'll get back on it, I'm already back on it but all that work for this 😬

Oh well onwards we go 😭

Sparticle · 07/06/2024 18:07

Sorry to disappoint but I wasn't able to meet up with @Mum5net tonight! I'm so sorry - I hope you weren't there Mum5net? 😟

I was in the office until gone five and then had to rush for my train. It was also super busy in the station - including lots of men in kilts for the football match!

But wow - the scenery on the journey home is stunning.

Well done @notzoe and don't worry @FlutteryButterfly - you'll get rid of that soon I'm sure! I hope you had a fab holiday.

Mum5net · 07/06/2024 18:25

@Sparticle
Absolutely no worries. I wasn't in M&S today the way things worked out but I'm super pleased you made the train. Glad it is sunny and the scenery is up to standard. Best scenery near Oxenholme.

Next time @Mum5net ☺️

And yes I love the Howgills - we've got friends near Tebay so try to visit them fairly often.

Mum5net · 08/06/2024 08:51

Well it’s taken a whole month but my scale is showing a 60! Now 60.8kg
Hoping I can get to the fifties much quicker.

Have a great weekend everyone.

HoneyMobster · 08/06/2024 09:49

Now that is marvellous @Mum5net - really excellent work. How are you feeling.

I'm continuing to make progress - scales registered 8 stone 9.4 lbs today. I have lived very cleanly this last week, no alcohol or indulgences. This weekend will involve both though plus I'm travelling for work next week.

Trying to pay attention to muscles from now on. Renpho tells me it's decreased so I'm keen to address the loss.

CommeIlFaut · 08/06/2024 10:14

Mum5net Well done! You have done brilliantly. I’m 60.9, so we can try to get there together. Although I’ve got three days in Paris this month- so I fancy your chances more than mine!

Sparticle · 11/06/2024 09:33

Morning all. How were your weekends? I've been keeping up with the fitness which is good. It helps that instead of spending the morning scrolling through the news sites/social media before school drop off etc I've been getting my fitness done then. Sets me up for the day Smile

BusyMummy001 · 11/06/2024 09:50

Wanted tp post this myself yesterday - hols on 6th July and really want to shift 10lbs so I can fit into old clothes and not buy a load for two weeks! I’ve been losing slowly without much effort, just fewer calories for last year or so, so am 4.5st lighter but just not quite where I’d hoped to be for this holiday.

anyone got suggestions - fasting, keto, 10mile daily walk (lol)??

Mum5net · 11/06/2024 11:26

@BusyMummy001 if you have lost 4.5 st already, it's us who should be asking you for suggestions, seriously, well done.
@HoneyMobster has a good handle on these things.
Personally, in times gone by where I've done best, it has been when I have burned 2500 calories consistently every for about a month and restricted my eating to just salmon and green veg. But the calorie burn did take me three hours every day of exercise...

Mum5net · 11/06/2024 11:32

Nothing to report here on the losing front @Sparticle but I am doing my best to hit 18k a day in steps.
During the lighter months of summer it is easier to add in 20 mins extra exercise by getting up a bit earlier...
Anyone else developed a bad habit of weighing last thing at night and then again in the morning?
I even found myself writing down my night time weights as I cant record them on my Happy Scales App.

OP posts:
Sparticle · 11/06/2024 12:31

Wow no I haven't ever weighed myself that much! I just about manage it once a week.

@BusyMummy001 that's a brilliant weigh loss so far! Perhaps have a change in routine, try different exercise to your usual or maybe make some swaps to your usual meals?

BusyMummy001 · 11/06/2024 12:48

Thanks for the advice - think I’ve been a bit relaxed, happy to take it slowly with just a lb/week average and not much effort, but suddenly the holiday is so close I feel I need to pull my finger out. A last splurge of dieting before getting to the airport. I’d be happy with 5-6lbs though, tbh.

Think I’ll look at building my steps up (there a hiking trip up Etna so even though I’m lighter now, I may need to build up some muscles/stamina anyway). And am thinking that trying the 18:6 fast approach, with high protein meals, might shake things up. Have slipped snacking on quavers, for which I probably have an addiction!

HoneyMobster · 11/06/2024 13:28

Great work @BusyMummy001

@Mum5net is kind to suggest I am a source of advice but having shifted the last few pounds to reach target weight I found that the following things helped.

  1. Protein at every meal and minimal carbs
  2. Running first thing on an empty stomach
  3. Loads of water
  4. Steps - I generally do about 18k (includes the runs).

I do some weights and yoga as well. I definitely have more muscle these days and I have a hunch that's increased my BMR.

I'm been 'lucky' for the last few weeks to be able to be quite selfish as all 3 children have been at university. They're trickling back and I think my resolve may weaken as the house fills back up.

BusyMummy001 · 11/06/2024 15:16

@HoneyMobster thank you - have been trying to balance the ‘slow and steady’ (ie not having to work too hard) against the desire to just be there now. Was happy enough with the slow approach before the holiday loomed. Now, 14months in, I am fed up with skipping family meals (can’t do that on holiday easily, and don’t want to really) and just want to be done with it all - so am thinking a final hard push is needed now.

I still need to lose 1.5 stone in total to get where I’m happy (BMI 24.9!) - not skinny, but I’m 55 now, so don’t want to look old/sick like some older women look after massive weight-loss, so am happy to ‘just’ be inside the healthy weight range. Ironically, I often lose weight on holidays - menus with local fish/meat and the salad buffets make it easy, along with all the walking when sightseeing

I’ve been averaging 7000 steps, but it could easily be 12k a day with more dog walks. The hotel we’re going to has a spa/gym and classes that I really could go along and try, when not hiking up Etna 🤣. But the diet is key. Have just ‘not been eating much’, so I think protein/salads is the way to go, and frankly the fam will happily take more protein if I shove some fries/jacket potatoes on the side… It’s BBQ season after all. I think I may even have some gym clothes and a sports bra that fits from 5 years ago… somewhere!

🙏

StickyStones · 11/06/2024 19:57

@HoneyMobster that's very impressive. I wish I was so disciplined.

I am trying, and failing, trying and failing. Scales aren't doing a whole lot but I'm wearing a pair of jeans today that I couldn't do up a few weeks ago so a small win at least. 4 weeks to my holiday now...can't see me losing 6 lbs at the pace I've been going but things could be worse!

My Apple fitness tells me I've done 41 5k runs in the last year, how I'm not skinnier I do not know! Just goes to show that you can't outrun your fork (or wine glass)

notzoe · 12/06/2024 21:48

@StickyStones have you thought about giving one meal a day a go? I can’t recommend it enough.

ElleDeeCB · 13/06/2024 06:59

Hi all
So I managed to lose 2lb this week, though I’m absolutely not starving myself. Just trying to cut the carbs, sugar, UPF and booze, and up the protein. Been listening to a lot of podcasts and audiobooks on healthy eating to keep me motivated (Zoe, Andrew Jenkinson etc). Not doing very well with running, but walking 10k steps everyday. Will try and do a run tomorrow.

Does anyone have any good recipes for high protein low calorie vegetarian soups?

Wish the weather would perk up a bit!

Mum5net · 13/06/2024 13:09

60.7 kg so a tiny, tiny improvement. Would like to be 59.9 kg for a week today as head off for a few days to see DC.
@ElleDeeCB 2lbs is great! Have you tried Delia's tomato sauce with mozarella? Or if you like, cottage cheese? It's as good as soup! I make it EVERY week without fail.

PS Mine takes less than an hour. I cook it faster and don't sweat it way down ... more like soup!

Mum5net · 16/06/2024 13:03

60.3 kg; it's painfully slow but at least still going down.
Too wet to take the dog out this morning so I did my steps walking around Sainsbury's, M&S and B&Q ...
How are all our soon-to-be holidaymakers and brides doing?

BusyMummy001 · 16/06/2024 13:09

Well done Mum5! Still plodding on at an average for 2lbs a week, which I’m pleased with as I’ve been on this journey for 14m, so 18lbs in the last 9wks/2months is brilliant I think. Had hoped to be closer to goal, but I’ll take it!

Mum5net · 16/06/2024 13:33

@BusyMummy001 thank you, but right back at you! It has taken me since Feb 22nd to shift 18lbs.. Your 18lbs in 9 weeks is twice as fast. You are marvellous! Hopefully, some of the gym clothes you wanted to wear drape nicely. I am able to get into my wide leg linen trousers from about 20 years ago that have come back around...

Sparticle · 16/06/2024 21:46

I've not had a great week eating-wise but have got back into my exercise which I'm happy about.

I have an extensive Bupa health assessment on Thursday (paid for my work) and I'd wanted to be at my preferred weight by then but it's not to be. I haven't really put any on though which is good I suppose?
